Sunday HospitalityServe by picking up donuts, keeping the coffee stations stocked, or helping maintain a warm, inviting hospitality area. Here are specific needs:

- Pick up donuts from Sammons in Murray (Pockets gas station beside movie theater) at 7 am every other Sunday and bring them to church!

- Help make sure coffee/ donut areas are stocked and clean

Clothing ClosetServe our community by helping organize and distribute clothing to families in need.
Social Media TeamUse your creative gifts through photography or video to help share the story of what God is doing at Hardin Baptist Church. Here are specific needs:

Baptism TeamHelp make baptism Sundays meaningful by serving families and assisting with preparations behind the scenes.
Sunday Morning Tech TeamWhether it’s ProPresenter, audio, cameras, or livestream production, our Tech Team plays a vital role in helping lead distraction-free worship each week. Training is available for many of these positions. Here are specifics needs:

Student Ministry VolunteersInvest in the next generation by serving on our Adult Volunteer Team, Parent Safety Team, or Food Set-Up Team during Wednesday night Impact. Here are specifics needs:

- 3-5 for “Food Set-Up Team”
It is no secret that there is value in first impressions, but when it comes to back to school the value is in the first connections. The first connection a student makes when they step foot onto campus can influence not only their college path but their eternities. We want our church family to be the first connection they make in hopes to connect them to the good news of the gospel. The calendar for the first week of school is filled for this purpose! We need you to partner with us in serving and prayer as we seek to make connections in the first week. We need you to help by volunteering to prepare and serve food. The first week of school we will be feeding over 400 students! Your time, service, and prayers will not be in vain as we seek to kick off another amazing year.
Back to School Gathering at the Pavilion: Sunday, August 16
This gathering is for our college students to reunite for a time of fellowship and invite new people they have met on campus. We would love to have church members ready to serve and welcome back our students.
– 5 PM- 7:30 PM: 8 volunteers to be present during the event and help with clean up

This is an opportunity given to every incoming freshman who is involved at the BCM to visit our church for appetizers.

We can’t wait to welcome your family to HBC for VBS! This year’s theme is Crank It Up, where kids will discover that God’s Word gives us everything we need to live for Him.
Our theme verse is 2 Timothy 3:16–17:
“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.“
Throughout the week, kids will enjoy exciting Bible lessons, energetic worship, games, crafts, great food, and plenty of fun while learning how God’s Word equips us to follow Jesus every day.

Crossings for Middle School is coming up! Crossings is June 15-19 at Jonathan Creek. Crossings is a great opportunity for students to fellowship together, have fun, and sit under God’s Word.
The total cost for Crossings is $377 and the deposit is $75. If finances are an issue, please do not hesitate to reach out and we would love to work with you to make sure every student who wants to go to camp can have that opportunity.

The college ministry needs your help on Tuesday, February 10th! There are many opportunities to use your gifts and serve at the Valentine’s Dessert Social. Bake cupcakes or provide food and drop off at The Barn at White Oaks between 10:30 AM-4:30 PM, or at the 641 kitchen before 12 PM, give of your time and help decorate at The Barn at White Oaks from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM, or countless other ways. We are currently hiring a part-time Custodian to join our ministry team.
This position plays an important role in helping create a clean, welcoming, and well-prepared
environment for worship services, events, and day-to-day ministry at our church. A full job

However, there is a stark difference between the TV you watched growing up and the smartphone your child holds in their hand. The difference is that you watch TV, while your teen’s smartphone watches them. This breakout will help you train your teen to use screens appropriately rather than be used by them.
Launching Out of Your Home into the World- College Pastor, Chris LaweranceYour child has graduated high school and now it is time to launch them into the real world… sounds scary right?!?! But do not be afraid, in this session, you will hear what challenges your child may face and the way you can support them spiritually during one of the biggest transitions in their life.
Enjoying an Empty Nest and Grandparent Life – Bro Ricky & Celisa CunninghamAll the kids are out of the house, but you may be thinking now what?!? But your role as a parent is not quite over! You now get to support your children throughout major life events such as becoming more independent, marriage, and becoming parents themselves! In this session learn how you can support your kids through these major life events, and your role as an empty nester.

Our Middle School Ministry is growing!! We need someone full-time to keep an eye on this ministry and help shepherd the Middle School Students and their Parents. Tyler Whitt has been a youth intern for the past year and has gone above in beyond. He led the middle school camps and mission trips this past summer, in addition to helping lead the Costa Rica Mission trip! He has also been leading the Middle School Sunday School Class.
We believe Tyler is the perfect person for this position and would like to present him for hire as the Middle School Director.
Members will be able to vote on Sunday, August 8th, in person, and online.
Tyler Whitt will be at the Green Wall in between services, on September 1st, for you to stop by and get to know him.

Join us for a community event in Murray! On Saturday, August 10th at Chestnut Park, we will host a FREE Pickleball Tournament! Registration begins at 7:30 am, and the tournament will start around 8:30 am.
We will have Sammons Donuts, Shaffer Coffee, and some other snacks throughout the tournament!
Never played before, no problem! Grab a friend and come out to play some pickleball! We encourage you to bring your own paddles, but we will also have some available for people to use!
This tournament will be a single elimination bracket. Winners and runners-up will receive prizes.

En El Principio (In the Beginning)
When we look at the beginning of creation, we see a perfect Garden paradise. A place where man and God dwelt together in perfect harmony. Where man understood the creation order and lived to serve and glorify the Lord in all things. However, as we look at the world around us, we know that this Garden paradise didn’t stay a paradise. Sin happened! And with that came a world of hurt, pain, and brokenness. That brokenness is why we do what we do because whether people realize it or not, they are living their lives longing to return to that Garden paradise. Our desire for Nicaragua is to love, serve, and minister in such a way that people find healing for the brokenness through the Gospel of Jesus Christ and that they find hope in the restored Garden to come!
The ChurchBy no means do we believe at this beginning of this church plant have we restored the Garden, however, we have been regularly reminded of the faithfulness of God in the midst of a broken world. He has given us so much favor in the community that we serve. From just a few months back when we started services to now we have seen our regular weekly numbers go from 15 to now averaging 40-45 regularly gathering with us. We’ve seen 3 men graduate from our men’s rehab program with 5 more set to graduate in the coming months. We’ve seen our first baptism and we’ve seen men, women, and children regularly meeting to hear God’s word, challenged to examine their own lives and their relationship with Christ. We know the Garden paradise is still to come but we are beyond thankful to the Lord for the Garden (Iglesia El Jardín) that he has planted in this community and the work he is doing in and through it!

2 Years
This month we celebrate 2 full years of living and serving in the country of Nicaragua. It has had a host of unique challenges but also tremendous blessings. We hear all the time that people can’t imagine doing what we are doing. I’m here to say that anyone can do what we are doing. We are not special, we are not more Godly, we just received a call and were faithful to answer the call of God! We encourage all to be faithful to the call of God on their individual lives and know that when we all fulfill our ministries we build up the church and exalt the name of Jesus! We are so thankful to all who have supported us, prayed for us, texted/called us…we truly feel the love and support and we look forward to what is ahead for our family!
Furlough
From June 5th to July 31st we will be stateside. This has been a scheduled furlough since we first moved to Nicaragua and we are so excited to spend the summer with our friends and family and to have an opportunity to share in person all that the Lord is doing. We plan to be very active in our local church (Hardin Baptist Church) this summer but will also set up some small times to rest and recharge as a family. In so many ways a furlough is a weird feeling. You are leaving a place that has become home to return to a place that once was but no longer is home. Nonetheless, we are excited for a full summer and can’t wait to see so many of you! A huge praise is were able to find a vehicle to use for the summer. So for those who prayed, thank you. The Lord was very gracious in providing us with the perfect vehicle.
Prayers & Praises
Pray for the church! We will be away for 8 total weeks. We have leadership in place but we pray that they will stay focused on the ministry task and continue to build up the local church. As I send this I must praise the Lord for having the opportunity to be with our college team in Costa Rica and also look ahead to another full week of ministry with our high school team working in the same community in Costa Rica. We covet your prayers for this trip. We currently have 5 men in our rehab program. Please pray for Luis, Kenneth, Bryan, Julio, and Mason. Most of these new men are young and we just pray that we can come alongside them early in their lives to help them and see their lives changed with the Gospel. Visitors. This is not a prayer but a praise. But in April we were so thankful to have visitors Charles and Kelly Palmer from our home church. It was a great few days with them. It’s always such a blessing to get to show others what God is doing as well as share the place we now call home! Our family. We pray that this summer is restful and recharging for our family. Please join us in prayer that we can rest well and prepare for the next season in ministry!

HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS * Sunday, March 5th: High School seniors will be honored on stage during the 9:15 am Service. * Wednesday, March 8th: Seniors will be honored at Youth Impacted Service! Impact service starts at 6 pm, but Senior student families are welcome to join the rest of the youth for Burgers between 5:30 pm – 6 pm.

5TH GRADE GRADUATIONBelow are some important dates that you and your 5th grader need to know!!
April 28th – At 10:45, we will have a brief meeting in Loft 3 with info about our First Fruits Farm Graduation Service. Everyone will hear from our Youth Pastor, Chase Bright. Then your 5th grader will have a quick tour of the Youth Sunday School Rooms and hear from a couple of our youth while we discuss details about the FFF Graduation and upcoming schedule.
May 1st – 5th Grade Field Trip to the Point for the Youth Impact Service; details will be sent out about this next week.
May 8th – At 6pm at the Pavilion we will have our First Fruits Farm Graduation! This is a fun time for our 5th graders and families to celebrate the ending of one season and the beginning of a new season!
May 15th – 5th Grade Field Trip to the Youth Slip ’n Slide Kickball Tournament. This is an opportunity for our 5th graders to see what a youth event looks like and have a chance to participate as well.
August 4 – Promotion Sunday! All kids and students will move up to their 2024-2025 school year grade group.

COLLEGE GRADUATIONThe College ministry seniors will be honored during the College Sunday school at 9:15 am and then on stage in the Sanctuary at 10:40 am service on Sunday, May 5th.
The college will be having lunch at the pavilion after church on May 5th, just for the college graduates and their families.

March 6th | 6pm – 7:15pm | 641 SanctuaryAfter every service at Hardin, we say, “We are sent!” Being sent means going and sharing the good news of Jesus with others. Maybe you find it scary to share your faith with others, or perhaps you feel like you don’t know how to. Well, this coming Wednesday night, March 6th, we are going to have an evangelism training night in the sanctuary from 6-7:15. Come be equipped to share your faith, so that next Sunday at Hardin you can genuinely say, “You are sent!”

100 college students traveled to Louisville, KY, on February 16th – 18th to invest in their walk with Christ. Blake Hodges from Highview Baptist Church brought God’s Word and encouraged students to examine if they have a personal relationship with Jesus or just knowledge about Jesus. God encouraged, spurred on, and transformed students’ lives. Please continue to pray for the college ministry and all the big things they are doing!!
Church, we have been entrusted with the gospel; that is the power of God (Romans 1:16).
Jan 28, 2024— Bro. Ricky preached on the church’s mission to “Go” and the importance of being an effective witness of the gospel. What better way to conclude our “WE ARE SENT” series than with a charge to scatter amongst our community?
On March 24, small pockets of believers will host block parties throughout the area in hopes of building relationships with our neighbors. Whoever it be, associates or acquaintances, our vision is to reach those lost in our concentric circle with the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Step 1: Grab a team
Find a few HBC friends. Let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works (Hebrews 10:24). Join forces with a family who lives down the street, or pair up with a couple from your small group. Whoever it may be, find your people.
Step 2: Make a plan
Now, let’s strategize. Block parties are a great way to be intentional and build relationships. They can be anything from card games to a March Madness watch party. Let us open up our homes, showing hospitality to our friends and neighbors.
Step 3: Invite some friends
The most crucial step. Invite a few non-HBC friends! Whether this be another parent on your kid’s basketball team or your lost coworker for whom you’ve been in prayer. Who has the Lord placed in your life?
Easter Sunday is just around the corner. What a great opportunity to invite someone to attend Hardin Baptist Church for the very first time. As we gather around our tables or sit in front of our televisions, let’s use that moment to share the hope that binds us together!
Love thy neighbor by going. Can they call on whom they don’t believe? Can they believe in whom they have not heard? Can they hear without someone being sent? If we truly believe “no one seeks God,” then we, the church, must “go” to them. We are the end of the earth.
We will have an ordination service to ordain Chris Lawrence On February 25th, at 5 pm, followed by the Lord’s Supper. During the Lord’s Supper, baptized believers are invited to join us at the table of the Lord. We look forward to seeing everyone on February 25th at 5 pm, as we gather together for Chris’s ordination service and to partake in the Lord’s Supper.
About Chris LawrenceChris is originally from Vienna, Illinois, and came to Murray State in the Fall of 1998. He started to attend Hardin Baptist Church and became a member of Hardin in 2001 during his junior year at Murray State University. Two things that really drew him to Hardin Baptist church were the biblical teaching and the great leadership of Bro. Ricky and other members of the church.
After graduating from Murray State, Chris obtained a Master of Divinity degree from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky. During his seminary time, he continued to be involved at Hardin by ministering to college students at Murray State. He had a deep burden for the college students which eventually led to my position at Hardin Baptist as College Pastor starting in 2008. College students are entering a more independent stage and are at a time in their lives when they really figure out what they believe. Chris says his desire for college students is to engage them in sound theology, help them grow to think for themselves and emphasize the great importance of being involved in the local church. He wants them to graduate college understand how to pick a biblical church and be an active member wherever they go.
While he has a passion for college students, he also loves his family. His wife of 13 years, Brandy Lawrence, and four children Graham, Braxton, Hannah, and Titus! He also enjoys sports (Go RACERS!), reading, and spending time with family and friends.

Right outside the front doors, we have a visitor’s table set up to welcome your friends as they walk in and to help them figure out where to go! Our welcome team wearing orange lanyards will assist your friends too!
4. Foyer
– As soon as you walk in we will have a big sign hanging up with directional arrows pointing to coffee and donuts, kids and youth classes, and the sanctuary to help people navigate.
– We have ordered extra coffee and donuts, so your invited friend won’t steal your donut!!
5. Sanctuary
– During the 9:15, and 10:40 service, we will have extra seats in the sanctuary! We are expecting a lot of people so please make sure to move to the center of the aisle to help with seating.
– There will be a variety of slides on the screen with information on the different ways you and your family can get connected at HBC!
6. Welcome Team
Our welcome team will greet you and your friends at the front doors, visitors booth, and the green wall. They will have orange lanyards on with green badges that say “How can I help you?” Know that even if you are not wearing a Welcome Team badge you can still welcome people and help them find where they need to go!
7. Sunday Schools
All Sunday school classes will be the same as usual unless you were told differently by your Sunday school teacher.
