This episode was a really fun one. In it, I chat with credentialed life coach, hypnotherapist, and personal empowerment expert, Amy Green Smith about fear, people-pleasing, feeling worthy, and taking up space.
There's a lot more I want to say about it but it's one you should listen to and grab some nuggets from yourself!
Here are some teasers...
Am I actually in danger or is this just new?
We have conflated what is familiar with what is comfortable.
Fear and people-pleasing aren't always "bad" - sometimes they're necessary and/or keep you safe.
Heightened emotional states require acute care, not personal development tools.
Our modern-day fear responses look different.
Progressive language (stating you are taking action toward something) can be really helpful in shifting beliefs.
Our bodies are forcing us to slow down... We have to TAKE rest because it is so rarely given.

What do you do when the decision is hard to make?
When the answers all mean someone still loses out, or doesn't feel like they got their way?
Or when there aren't any clear "right" decisions?
You pause.
You get super clear on what the decisions are.
You stretch out the timeline and play around with possibility.
That's exactly what we did on this week's coaching call with an anonymous volunteer.
They show an example of a really tough, multi-layered decision being made - but not all at once.
Listen in to learn a few of the red flags you may be unknowingly operating with in your decision making.

At this point in the podcast, we are about 90 episodes in and I love it more than I ever thought I would!
That being said, I am taking a pause - for now. I am shifting my attention to another creative endeavor because, when you're a solopreneur, you cannot do ALL the things if you want to do them well.
This last little bit, for me, has been about taking my business back down to the studs so I can build it back up differently, more simply. I don't want to build funnels, I want to coach people.
I'm here for relationships, connection, witnessing lives - being with people and actually seeing them.
What I'm working on, I thought, was going to be a book (and it still may be)... I will keep you posted!
Chances are good that I will get really excited about the conversations I'm having and what I'm learning and want to come back here and tell you all about it. But, for now, I'm giving myself the space to let my attention settle there.
I hope you'll stay subscribed for whatever comes next. And, if you've never left a rating or review I'd love for you to consider doing that as well!
Thank you SO much for listening and all of your support - it has meant the world.

So much of what I do is behind the scenes and private - and sometimes I forget to share about it. But, if I don't share what I do, you don't see it, which may mean you don't know what's possible for YOU.
I recently sold out a small group a month before it started... without doing any marketing at all. It was exciting and it's definitely not where I started.
So, in this episode, I pull out all the wisdom I can and share it - in case it's helpful.
There are 5 main reasons I think this happened and I get into all of them here.
Listen. Enjoy. Take what's useful. And, let me know what comes up. I'd love to hear it!
When you're ready, there are 3 ways you can work with me:

As a love offering to you, it's only $197 and is packed FULL of everything I did to get to multiple 6-figures.
THE GROUP: Small group coaching, accountability, and support as you grow your 6-figure+ business. (https://clients.caryngillen.com/public/form/view/62c4cdf7b84e84494bf76357)
Includes: 2 1:1 strategy calls, 3 group calls per month, the course (listed above), Voxer access, additional bonuses, etc. It's a 6-month container capped at 6 people max. Groups start in September, November, March, and May. They also fill up fast - so, if you want in, make sure to fill out the interest form!

I recently asked my coaching clients for feedback, and one of the #1 things I heard was that they love my energy!
At first, I thought, "Dang. I can't teach you that." But then, I realized I actually could.
My energy is based on the beliefs I walk around with - and they determine how I show up in the world.
2 of the things that are integral to my coaching process are holding space really well and asking powerful questions.
In this episode, I dive into what that actually means and what that looks like for me. I hope you'll listen in.
"Holding space is the canvas. And, powerful questions are the tools we have to make art."

Today, the tables are turned and I'm sharing a recent conversation from Jill Wright's podcast, where she interviews me - about doing business YOUR way (one of my favorite topics)!
We get into:
"Releasing the Drag" (in life and business)
How there is no such thing as a "problem" human
The influence of identity and values on business building
Discernment, guardrails, achieving goals...
and so much more.
Let's unhook society's idea of who we are, how it "should" be done, etc., and do it our way. You in?!
"Stop carrying everybody else's luggage, we all have enough of our own."

In this episode, Embodied Eating Coach, Chanci Dawn talks to us about sticking with ourselves and embracing curiosity instead of judgment.
"We are so loved. We are so, so precious. And, when we own that and truly embody that with compassion, and go back to who we are at our essence, it's really fun to see how everything starts to work."
Chanci gets vulnerable with us and shares her experience with PMDD, what she tells her little/younger self when things get tough, and why she is so passionate about living and coaching out loud.

Today's episode of the podcast is an important one. I sat down with my friend, Yoga Teacher and Death Doula, Brie Huling to talk about death and how it can actually be quite beautiful.
I tell her, as we're chatting, "when I think of you, I fondly think of death" - and I meant it!
There's a lot about death in mainstream culture that gets in our way. First and foremost, the taboo around even talking about it. So, I'd encourage you to suspend whatever thoughts and feelings you might be having right now and join the conversation with an open mind.
Then, ask yourself: What would it be like to plan for a beautiful death (whether that's for you or in supporting someone else)?
As an added bonus, Brie says, "in centering around death, we get to really anchor into the beauty of living." And, who doesn't want that?
Let's normalize the not-knowing and discomfort, let's change how we think about and view death. This conversation is step one. I hope you'll join us!

I love experts. And, today's guest is no exception. Michelle Clayton is the Brand Strategist and Designer behind Let Her Fly, a studio for successful women who are ready to look like the pro they are. (She has also done all of my branding - twice now.)
In this episode, we talk about:
The difference between brand strategy and design
What branding is and how to know if/when you're ready for it
How to get started and what the process is like
What to do if you've outgrown your brand
The most important things to keep in mind
and more!
If you are a business owner who wants to make sure their branding is aligned and resonates with the right people, this episode is a "must listen."
Michelle has seen, time and time again, a grounded sense of confidence that comes after doing this work... "When your branding is in alignment, your confidence level takes off." And, you can do what you're good at without the constant questioning and tweaking.
I can corroborate this.

KEEP® is an evidence-based support and skill enhancement program for foster and kinship parents of children and teens. The program supports foster families by promoting child well-being and preventing placement breakdowns.
Foster and kinship parents are key agents of change for the children in their homes, and KEEP® provides a support network for them (via regular meetings that include evidence-based, hands-on training, food, and childcare).
Fostering can be isolating and overwhelming but parents who participate in KEEP® experience fewer challenging child behaviors and less stress - this is universally true, regardless of where the program is taking place (where it was founded, in Oregon, or all the way in Denmark, where it is implemented country-wide).
KEEP® Implementation Support Specialist and Interventionist, Amanda Law joins me in this episode to share all about KEEP® and what it's like to be involved in work that genuinely impacts and benefits the lives of others.
A helpful parenting/human-ing tip she wanted to share is for us all to take one week and notice the nice/helpful things that people are doing, appreciate them, and voice your thanks.
"We always notice when something is out of place," she says. "And, sometimes, we forget to notice all of the things that have fallen into place."
As human beings, parents, and kids, we all want to be seen. We want people to notice when we're doing a great job. This is simply an invitation to recognize the millions of things around us that make our lives work. It's fun and you would be surprised by the difference it makes!

This conversation with Dr. Sherry Price was a unique one - on a topic I think many of us don't consider or discuss all that often.
Sherry's approach to her relationship with alcohol and helping folks with overdrinking is refreshing.
In this episode, she shares her personal story, some statistics, and tangible tools to make manageable, meaningful shifts.
The thing I love about Sherry is that she lets you decide what "overdrinking" means for you and attaches no guilt or shame to the process.
A great question to ask yourself (around anything you may be over-reliant on) is: Do I want to be the person who doesn't require or depend on it?
If your answer is yes, you'll want to listen to this conversation!

Today, on the podcast, we're talking about sensitive leadership and the future of work with Dr. Ciela Hartanov.
We have the opportunity, right now, to move out of the Industrial era logic around work and reclaim, or invite back in, some of our humanity.
Some business owners and companies will choose to stick with what has been tried and true, with what they know. BUT, we also know that employees and people on our teams are asking for something else - and will seek to find it.
In this conversation, we talk about:
the utility of the workplace
areas we, likely, need to shift and adjust
how to be a sensitive leader (and why that's increasingly important)
It's time for "thinking big, looking beyond the obvious, and widening our perspective so that we can make new choices."
One small change you can make in this area, right now, is to go into your next conversation leading with questions - rather than statements and answers - and just see what happens.

A couple of months ago, I did an interview for Dr. Melissa Bird's "Tiny Bits of Love" series. It was such a unique conversation and so good that I wanted to share it here as well.
We talk about self-awareness and self-love, the truth we have to face if things are ever going to change, grief, fear... and all sorts of other topics we sometimes shy away from because they can be uncomfortable.
Ultimately, we grapple with the question: "In a world where we don't human people, what good is anything else?"
I would love for you to listen in and to hear YOUR thoughts on what we discuss.

Today, on the podcast, we have Spiritual Guide and Coach, Sarah Trapkus who talks to us about embodiment - "existing and experiencing life through your physical being."
This episode serves as a reminder to take it below the neck, to notice what's coming up for you or what's here IN your body right now.
We are all spending energy - whether we are doing it to conform to the things that don't fit us anymore or to disrupt those things and create something that does, it's energy either way. It takes a lot of energy to keep the door closed. AND, it takes a lot of energy to keep the door open but the view is infinitely better!
One of the ways Sarah checks in around this is by continually asking herself, "if the things that I've made define who I am aren't there, then who am I? If everything fell apart, would I still be me/free?"
This episode will help you reconnect with (or move deeper into) trusting yourself again - as well as the magic that exists when you do!

What is the problem you are solving right now? What is the result you're creating right now? What is the thing you are making the priority right now, on purpose?
In this industry - and in life - it is so easy to get caught up in the "hustle shuffle". We can do all the learning and accumulate all the things, and convince ourselves that we need to take ALL the action at once.
The "hustle shuffle" is always available. It is here for you. It is consistent. And, you are welcome to have it.
The problem is, if you are in the "hustle shuffle," we know you are out of intentional business-building, growth, and living.
What would it look like to not be telling yourself 100 stories about what you don't have, what you don't know, what you need, what you should do?
And, instead, if you were able to say, "I know what to do. I know why I'm doing it. I know where my time is going. I've got this! ... If there's a little piece I need to learn along the way, that's when I'll go learn it. I don't need to learn it three years in advance. I can learn it when I need it. I can relax."
This episode is for anyone who wants to be more intentional, who wants to slow down, and feel more clarity and more peace. I've got you.

"If I think I am my brain, then I am a victim to it all the time."
Next Level Thinking has really shown up as a thing in coaching and in the online space these last couple of years. In one of my small groups, we had a really interesting conversation about it recently. Questions that came up were: "How do I know what next level thinking is? Am I there now/Is this it? Who decides what next level thinking is?"
And, I think there's two sides to it:
1). The really useful side where we go inward and really think about and analyze our thoughts - making that differentiation between who we are and what we habitually think.
2). The other side, that was created as a marketing tool to establish the gap between where you are now and where X person's product could potentially take you. It's a cool idea, if it works for you. If it doesn't work for you, put it down. It does not have to be a weapon you use against yourself.
Next Level Thinking does not have to be hard. Let it be what it is for you. And have some fun!
You always have access to thinking about your thoughts and it opens up so much more in life. If you are going to put yourself out there, try new things, be creative... you will come up against your own brain - it happens.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with you, that is exactly what's supposed to happen. It's also an opportunity for "Next Level Thinking". And you have the capacity to do that right now.
When we give ourselves the gift of being willing to neutralize how our brains work, so that we can see them with genuine curiosity, that's when the good stuff happens. :)

What comes easy or naturally to you?
We so often make ourselves wrong for having the strengths that we have. In a world where many people are overtired and don't have the energy they want, we need to STOP doing this.
The more we learn to play to our actual strengths, the easier it is for us to feel when we're outside of them.
A good place to start:
1). Listen to this episode.
2). Notice the things that come easily to you and figure out how to do them MOST of the time.
3). Abandon the notion that only hard work is good.
Optional: Take the StrengthsFinder test.
When we allow ourselves to be who we are, live in our strengths and from our values, things become easier and we find flow.

"I don't think it's okay that we're out here being helping professionals and that sometimes people have to leave and recover. What are we doing as individuals, and as an industry, to make sure that's happening less and less?" - Caryn
That is a large part of today's conversation with Nicky Hammond, The Coach's Coach.
Are we making space to listen and are we open to feedback -- even, and maybe especially, when it comes to how we are doing our work?
This is a call to practitioners to step more into the role of powerful, grounded leadership... to slow down... and to focus more on internal goals and success than external ones.
"We co-create experiences. And, we can provide people with exactly what they asked for - and more. The impact we can have, as coaches, is so fun!" - Nicky

What does that look like for you?
How does that apply to your business?**

"The thing wasn't the thing at all. The process was EVERYTHING."
When you've been in business a long time, you try a lot of things. You fail at a lot of things. And, you succeed at a lot of things as well.
Earlier on in my career, I wrote a book. I hustled and did all this stuff that nearly killed me to get it out in the world. But, I did it. I figured it out and I pulled it off. It was a best-seller in its category.
Last year, I felt it tugging at me to put it to bed. It no longer felt like me and my work. So, I removed it from Amazon. I took it away and I don't think you can get it (in any version) anywhere anymore. It was over, just like that.
I'm still so proud of it and everything it taught me! But, it didn't fit anymore so I stopped dragging it around.
I felt like this was an important thing to share because so much in this business we see the crescendo of everything - getting bigger, louder, better, more, more, more. But, sometimes, there is also a de-crescendo, where things get quieter and less important.
I love when things are done. I love starts and ends.
So, I'm curious... For you, is there anything tugging at you? Anything asking to go to bed or be done? Because it's okay. It's okay to just be done with stuff. It's okay to quiet things down.
I'd love to know, what's ending? And, why is that perfect for you? Only you get to decide.

What if work was nourishing and energizing - a place where humans were not resources and people genuinely loved being there? That's the shift we're making.
And, if you cannot get on board with that, then your company/your business becomes obsolete because the change IS happening.
In this episode, I talk to Organizational Health and Teamwork Specialist, Faith Clarke about building spaces where people feel like they can thrive.
We get into:
- This idea of the "traditional workplace".For who? And, for what? What are we keeping alive that maybe doesn't serve anybody anymore?
- Managing ourselves to create safety and trust.
The ability to have a conversation and manage my own responses (to my not knowing/lack of understanding of what someone else needs and is going through).
- Restorative work vs scaling.
What's the difference and why does it matter?
- Human-centered work.
What do we believe about people and how certain people can be treated?
"Every cycle of disruption creates something new. And, I think, we are living in a cycle of disruption right now - where people are acknowledging that they can be different from the people around them, things can be different... And, they are going to pursue spaces where they're honored.
All of us, together, can create more of what's needed." - Faith Clarke

There can be a lot of drama around launching. And, a lot of us throw ourselves under our own bus and make it really hard on ourselves when we're launching.
It doesn't have to be that way.
It can. But, it doesn't have to.

Who doesn't want MORE JOY, authenticity, power and influence in their life and business?
Today, we're talking to joy extractor and amplifier, Simone Grace Seol. Simone is creating a revolution in how life coaches market online--teaching them how to get fully booked by putting love first, leaning into their messy genius, and not being afraid to get a little weird.
Simone says, "when you're in your joy, you're inviting others to connect with you in your most powerful state." We are all drawn to joy, it's infectious.
This conversation is about:
what joy is
how to lean into it
undoing the layers of societal expectations
how to be courageous on purpose
the intersection of motherhood and work
...and more!
You will feel more joyful just hearing Simone talk about joy and why it's so important.
Today's challenge (after you listen to the episode): Think about the next courageous decision you need to make to create space for more joy in your life--more spaciousness, more boredom, more creativity, more play. What if you just made the decision right now that you're going to allow for that to happen?
I don't know about you but I want to live in a world where we're making decisions that feel like we're a little bit on fire. ;)

Your personal style is the first clue you give to the world about who you are.
"You can't exactly opt out of sending a message with what you're wearing. So, that is often people's first experience of your business or your brand. The fun part is to control that message and put your best foot forward."
Today on the podcast, I am joined by Personal Stylist, Estelle Winsett who loves helping women find their unique power through style.
"People have in their minds that in order to look professional they have to be uncomfortable - that's not true."
In this episode, we talk about:
Questions you can ask yourself to hone in on your style
The benefit of Color Analysis
The one thing you should do right now to bring more harmony to your closet
"Getting dressed is often the first thing we do in the morning and it can set the tone for our whole day." It's worth being intentional about.

"Direct your money towards the things that you care about - no matter how much you have. Start where you're at, with what you've got, and practice working that muscle now." - Sarah DeLuca
Today on the podcast, I am joined by money and philanthropy coach, Sarah DeLuca. We discuss:
how to make sure your money is aligned with your values
why it's important to talk about money
financial safety nets
aligned investing
future planning
and more.
She reminds us to ask ourselves: "What do I need to feel sustainable and abundant?"Also, to know that’s going to change over time. It’s not set in stone so it's worth revisiting every so often.
And, she encourages us to remember that "money is fluid. It flows like water." If it is just sitting there (not doing anything) it can get stagnant and diseased.
Money is powerful when it moves, especially when it's helping create the kind of world you want to live in and pass on to future generations.
**This episode is a great check-in with yourself to determine:
What creates safety?
What creates freedom?
Where are my values represented in how I spend and invest my money?**

I'm often asked how I make decisions in business. And, I hear a lot about past decisions clients have made that they regret. We talk about both of those things in this episode.
**How can you make decisions that are pain-free AND in line with the way you naturally make them?
How do you not make yourself wrong for, or get stuck in, decisions that you've made in the past?**
Let's find out!
It's a fun topic. It's a necessary topic. And, one that I hope helps anyone out there who might be struggling. Or, just provide greater insight into YOUR process.
"Decide today how you want to think about the decisions that you've made and lean into trusting yourself on the ones that are coming. Let yourself be the person who..."

Today, we are talking to Lindsay Poelman (coach) and Kathy Kinghorn (therapist) about the importance of being trauma-informed. If our goal is to help our clients get where they want to go and for us to "do no harm" in helping them get there, then we really need to understand trauma. We need to know what it looks like, how it can present, how to let people have their stories, how to help them work through it, and when to pull in or suggest additional support.
In this episode, we get into:
Big 'T' trauma vs. little 't' trauma
Relationship betrayal trauma
The individual nature of trauma
Safety, particularly in change work
The benefits of coaching and therapy (separately or together)
Gaslighting - what it is and how to recognize it
As well as, how to listen to your gut and why we're not in a rush.
"We all need a witness to our story. We need a witness to the beauty, to the tragedy... And, your story isn't the same as mine."
"I like to validate the hell out of their experience - as much as they need to get to the deepest, safest, most loving, acceptable and compassionate place possible. Then, let them lead themselves where they want to go."
"And, change work, healing work, business growth... they're not about speed. If you're trying to rush, you're gonna miss the good stuff. So, thank you both for slowing it down."
Lindsay and Kathy are training coaches to become trauma-informed, especially in regard to relationships. They want coaches to understand how prevalent trauma is and how much they can do to support their clients in the midst of it - because it will come up.

How do you feel about sales and selling?
I kind of love it! And, the way I think about it may be a really helpful paradigm shift for you.
That is what we're diving into in today's episode of the podcast.
Are you showing up and selling something that people want to the people who want it? That is how you help people.
Selling is helping, selling is leadership - if you approach it that way. And, people want good leaders. We want to know how to take advantage of the awesomeness around us. So, it’s our job to do that for our people.
Do you have some things you want to accomplish this year? Do you have a plan? What if there was even more to discover? 🤔

"People pleasing is us bending ourselves into a pretzel, in order to show up in the way we think another person wants us to - so that they can avoid dealing with us as we really are AND we don’t have to deal with their discomfort."
Today's podcast guest is Life Coach and Mentor, Kelly Tadlock. After leaving a job in Silicone Valley ("There was not a dollar amount you could pay that was going to get me to stay.") and disappointing a lot of people along the way, Kelly found the thing that fills her up. She let go of the people pleasing (that is so ingrained in all of us) and became a huge proponent of self-connection and self-care (the real kind).
"Self-kindness is non-negotiable," she says, "and it's usually the worst news I can give someone. Most of us have this real fear of 'if I’m nice to myself, I won’t do anything,' because it doesn't feel as active or as productive."
But, it helps us become the person we want to be and create the life we want to live. We have the ability to continually come home to ourselves and reveal who we are – even to ourselves – on deeper and deeper levels. And, it's worth it.
Having the courage to disappoint people, to let them be wrong about you, and to ask for help in the midst of all the messiness yields the most amazing, delicious fruit. The kind that makes you say, "This feels so good. I didn’t even know this was possible." And, who doesn't want that?
Your first act of radical self-kindness? Listening to this episode and checking in with yourself... how are you, really? And, what do you need the most right now?
As always, I would love to hear what bubbles up for you around this! DM me on Instagram if you want to have a two-way conversation (@caryngillen).

Today, we're talking about the leadership, feelings and work required to make a big shift. We explore the different stages of competence (unconscious incompetence, conscious incompetence, conscious competence, unconscious competence/mastery). And, talk about moving through them to make bold moves.
"The only thing that keeps us from where we are today and the thing we want that's over there is the fact that to get from here to there is relatively uncomfortable. We lose that connection to our mastery."
A few questions to explore after listening to the episode:
>> Where are you currently feeling unconscious incompetence? (Those places where you don't even know what's going on but you wish you did.)
>> Where are you in conscious competence doing something that you don't ever want to do again? Where can you drop something that you're actually pretty good at because it's not what you're here to do?
>> Where are you going to celebrate your unconscious competence or mastery? What are you good at that you don't even have to think about? (It comes naturally to you and maybe other people notice or even point it out.)
Main takeaway: big shifts and bold moves are uncomfortable. But, most of us want an outcome and a life worth feeling incompetent for little bursts of time.
Give yourself a break. And, let's make BOLD moves!

We talk about all the things! There is something here for you - even if you aren't a parent.
Topics discussed:

what we are responsible for
why our kids shouldn't be happy all the time
permission slips

When I was hosting the Disruption Sessions earlier this fall and was talking about disruption and disorientation, I was reminded that not everybody wants to lean into that. As human beings, we like to stay comfortable and safe.
But, here's the thing... disruption is actually a way to alignment - which most of us DO want.
If we want something new or to do what is good and right, that usually requires some sort of disruption, disorientation, discomfort. We can't get there by clinging to what we already know.
"The work we're asking people to do (as mentors and coaches) is to step up to the plate of their lives." It's not easy but it's required.
I want to honor that. Yes, it's work - but it's worth it.

What would it be like to not betray yourself?
Allow me to give you some context... I was listening to Brene Brown recently, and she was talking about how we will often betray ourselves before disappointing others.
This is a big one for me. I have definitely grown in this area but there are still times and spaces it sneaks in. I'm wondering if it's the same for you?
So, what if we tried that on this week? What if, before any response or action we took, we stopped to consider is this FOR me or is this a betrayal of myself?
Let's see what feels hard, what feels easy and what has just become a habit.
Can't wait to hear what comes up for you around this! DM me on Instagram to let me know.

"What have you been denying in yourself that it’s time to put out in the world?" - Dr. Melissa Bird
In this week's episode, I have the privilege of speaking with Clairvoyant Life Coach, Public Speaker and Founder of Natural Born Rebel, Dr. Melissa Bird.
We get into a lot of different things but the overarching theme is that most of us could improve at BEing human - admitting who we truly are in ALL of our big-ness and/or processing authentic emotions. And, how that's not a "bad" thing.
We talk about how to show up in life (and business), right at the level you’re at. Being human, and being who YOU are, without having to fix it, plump it or shrink it.
We talk about toxic gratitude. (You've got to listen to hear more about this one - it's important!)
We talk about investing in our businesses - how and why we don't have to do all the things on our own. And, why the growth often comes when we're not.
We talk about how we misunderstand the face of poverty, particularly in the US. And, why it's important to support small and local businesses. (I told you, we get into ALL the things!)
Do yourself a favor, listen to this episode and give yourself some space to process whatever comes up for you. It'll be worth it. And, if you need another human to bounce some things off of or to just affirm your human BEing, reach out to me on Instagram (@caryngillen). I'm always here for that!
Some questions to ask yourself...
"What 'too’s' have I been called? And, how have I believed them?"
"I'm here now. Clearly, this is for me. So, what’s here?"
"Where am I clenching? How can I unclench?"
"Do I allow myself to wail?"
"What’s my reaction to poverty? Where can I let some oxygen and some humanity in - and just look at that, to see what’s there?"

She gives specific examples of things that are problematic and some action items that you can do RIGHT NOW (without any additional resources) to "be a better human".

"It changes you. Doing the work fundamentally changes how you see the world, your work, your clients, how you show up and execute, how you see your behavior. The goal is for you to build a business that is completely equitable and healthy... The concepts are easy, it's more difficult in practice." - Trudi Lebrón
In the aftermath of George Floyd, I didn't know what to do. But, I knew I wanted to do something... something meaningful, that would be present in how I showed up - daily. I also knew I'd need some help figuring that out and doing the actual work.

Such a fun and engaging conversation with Ronna Detrick this week! Listen in as we discuss how the stories we believe and buy into impact our lives, as well as how we can reframe and rewrite them in a way that feels more aligned and true.
Ronna explains why she believes that "unless we heal the ancient, sacred stories of women we cannot hope to heal the ones we live today" and how that has played out in her life and business.
Ronna is the perfect example of someone who is playing the long game and running a high-integrity business that very much operates as a healing modality in her life and the lives of others.
There are some powerful questions in this episode that are worth grappling with. As well as, the invitation to return to center, getting grounded and focused in who you are and what you're doing.
What would YOU write if no one had told you anything before? How are you claiming your autonomy and agency here?
You can learn more about Ronna and her work at ronnadetrick.com. She is @ronnadetrick on every social platform. And, here's the link for her free Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/sovereigntyisyours

I am re-sharing an episode I did with Laura Husson, founder of The SHIFT Method, because it's sooo good.
And, because she is offering "The Get UNStuck Sessions" the final time - for free - next week and I just HAD to tell you about them. I have done them with her a couple of times and the freedom that has come as a result has been amazing! I will be there again because I'm always anxious to see what needs to be seen / known / felt next.

They start September 20th!
"Change itself can be in an instant, literally in a flash. It's the journey to make the decision for the change that takes a long time."
If we take away all the rules that we've made up, then what's left?
Answering that question is super fun and disorienting.
What are the sentences you think in your mind are the truth?
If you could disentangle yourself from everything you've ever made up, everything you've ever heard, what would you do then?
What is really here for you? And, what are you really here for?
Take a listen, and let's find out!
Today, I am talking to my friend, Jessica Harrison, a social scientist, therapist, and activist. This will be an interesting conversation for anyone who works with human beings - which is all of us!
If you have ever wondered about the difference between coaching and therapy, how they are different, and how they can work together - this will help.
We get into all the things!
How and why I became a life coach
The fact that nothing in nature is linear
The 3-Legged Stool of mental health
Why and when people decide to work with therapists and coaches
How relationship and care are at the core of it all (and why that is essential)
MORE
Quotables from Jessica:
"Your positionality always matters and is always going to influence how you show up with people and how people respond to you."
"It’s not our right to fix it or change it. People are autonomous. They get to decide, and we need to let go of the outcome."

Emotions are the fuel we use to run our lives. But, I think we often get this wrong as a society. We have this perception that some emotions are better than others, that there is a "right" way to feel, or that we are supposed to be happy all of the time.
When, in fact, we are able to swing through all of the emotions and are equipped to handle them all. We are meant to live full-spectrum lives. And, there is power in feeling what you're feeling at any given moment.
What if we allowed ourselves to just feel our emotions, without judgment. And, didn’t think they should be different.
How much more energy would we have if we weren't fighting and resisting them all of the time?
In this week's episode, I talk to Organizing Coach, Tracy Hoth about calming the chaos in your life, home, and business.
I recently hired Tracy to help me with a project of my own, and it was amazing how much doing just that one thing opened the door to even more clearing and SPACE. There was an energy that was stuck and completing the project moved it. I am someone who is willing to pay for the speed of decision-making because it means everything gets to go faster. And, getting it done felt like the most FREEDOM ever.
Of course, we relate all of this back to business! So, not only are Tracy's 5 tips great for getting organized, they're great for anywhere you might be stuck in business as well. Here they are:
Sort
Purge
Assign Homes
Set Limits
Maintain
Listen in to find out how they work!
The whole conversation is great... Tracy shares some really useful information and we discuss important thoughts and ideas around our stuff, its impact, and how we can get free - simply and easily, by making one decision at a time.

What if we are all naturally creative, resourceful, and whole - full stop?
These 11 minutes might be a total game-changer... for you, your life, and your business.
I am told one of my special gifts is asking really powerful, thought-provoking questions that help you get to the bottom of things and make really powerful, important shifts and decisions. This episode is exactly that.
I propose a lot of ideas and ask a lot of "what if's".
This is revolutionary stuff and I'm inviting you to consider joining in.
What if you're not broken but are naturally creative, resourceful, and whole exactly as you are - right now, today?
Then, what? What are we actually doing here?

Today's guest is none other than top-ranked health podcaster, Master Weightloss and Life Coach, motivational speaker, and all-around badass, Corinne Crabtree. We have an incredible conversation around the 3 Pillars I believe are essential to a sustainable and successful business (playing the long game, caring for your clients, and being of high integrity - these are also stand-alone episodes if you want to learn more/go back and check them out).
Corinne is super-passionate about these three topics as well and lives them out loud in her life and business every day.
We get into how the pillars also apply to weight loss, the unhelpful lies that we all believe, why Corinne is so passionate about caring for her clients, and why it's her mission to "teach every woman how to lose weight for good and feel as amazing as she deserves."
This conversation was an absolute delight and incredibly powerful. I think you'll agree. Please, enjoy my conversation with Corinne Crabtree.

Betty Barr was my 6th-grade teacher and a collegiate athlete prior to the passage of Title 9. In this episode, we talk about women's sports, what it looks like to be a trailblazer, and (my favorite) the power of language.
As Betty says, marginalized groups "have a knack for finding or becoming their own advocates." This is a powerful conversation on how far we've come, how far we have yet to go, and why the way we phrase things matters.
Betty's not much on putting people in boxes and using descriptive qualifiers. But, she does believe there's power in language and value in the conversations we have. So do I.
Please enjoy this conversation with my friend, Betty. And, be thinking about how the things she talks about relate to starting and being in business. The thread is there, I promise.
The book Betty spoke about: "Tomboy: The Surprising History of Girls Who Dare to Be Different" by Lisa Selin Davis.

"Integrity leaves clues, so does a lack thereof. Your people will remember both."
This is the third and final episode on what I believe to be 3 essential pillars in business: playing the long game, client care, and being of high integrity.
Today is all about Pillar 3: High-Integrity Business.
To me, high-integrity business is about being values-led. Business decisions and goals are made with your values intact - and, in fact, leading the way. When people come into your space they will know what you're about because they can feel it. It also means you get to be grounded and clear in your work. You can make hard decisions from a place of ease because you know what's right for you. And, when people ask you what you're up to, you know how to answer - and, more importantly, you know why.
It's time to lead with the real you out in front.
What would happen if you took a calm, long-game perspective, added a high level of care to your offers and the people you are serving, and layered into everything all of your most important/top values? What's possible for you (and your clients) from that place?!
This is an invitation to call yourself in and figure it out.
This is also an invitation to do so with my help, in a small group of like-minded peers.
My next round of group mentoring/coaching/masterminding is OPEN NOW. It closes tomorrow and we have 2 spots left. If any of these pillars have resonated with you, we might be a great fit to work together! Check out all the details and APPLY HERE. (https://caryngillen.lpages.co/mmgc521/)
This is the second episode on what I believe to be 3 essential pillars in business: playing the long game, client care, and being of high integrity.
Today is all about Pillar 2: Caring For Your Clients. "To care for" means seeing, thinking about, and showing up for people in a way that works for us AND them. People need specific containers in order to do change work. Our spaces are built with or without our intention and attention.
This episode is your invitation to be more intentional. Because, if I don't trust you - no matter how much I've paid you - I will not change in your space. And, neither one of us will get what we want for you.
Listen to this episode and, then, ask yourself: what creates the space for trust to exist for clients (and potential clients) in my work? Put some stakes in the ground here.
To those of you out there concerned about this, thank you for caring for your people. It's a BIG deal - damn near revolutionary!
Looking for the person you trust, whose values align with yours, to give you an assist and ensure you are caring for your clients really, really well?
My next round of group mentoring/coaching/masterminding is OPEN NOW. Want to know if we're a fit? Check out all the details and APPLY HERE. (https://caryngillen.lpages.co/mmgc521/)
For the next few episodes, I will be sharing what I believe to be 3 essential pillars in business: playing the long game, client care, and being of high integrity.
Today is all about Pillar 1: Playing the Long Game. Where will you be in 2038? Does the long game have a place in your business? And, either way, what does that mean for you, your business, and your clients/potential clients?
I want you to enjoy your experience of being in business. I truly believe it can be a healing modality - the thing you do that changes everything else.
Playing the long game means choosing a different kind of entrepreneurial responsibility. Feel the power you have and use it for the good you're here to do.
Listen to find out why the sooner you bring the long game into your business the better! As well as, how playing the long game supports the 5 different areas of business (Lead Generation, Nurture, Conversion, Delivery, and Retention/Re-Sell/Up-Sell).
Looking for the person you trust, whose values align with yours, to give you an assist - so that you can be in it for the long game?

**Thank you!
And, if you loved this episode as much as we do, share it!**
In this episode, I talk with Business Strategist, Neil Schimmel. We talk about institutional barriers, team dynamics, and showing up as your authentic self.
After this past year, there is no more community-wide lie that people in the workplace don't also have a real life at home (because we SAW it). In the midst of COVID we were forced to recognize that both exist, simultaneously.
And, because of that, we are not going back to a typical 9-5 corporate environment.
The status quo is simply not good enough anymore... It's not working (and hasn't been for quite some time). The companies and teams that will do the best moving forward are the ones that will allow people to do the work the way they want to do it, where they want to get it done, and even - in many cases - at the pace of their choosing (in conjunction with company goals).
The way we work has changed and will continue to change. "What a tremendous moment and opportunity this is."

Whatever you're gonna do, own it.
People always ask me what I wish I'd known in the beginning. Here it is. Are you ready for it?
When you start to take it seriously is when it gets serious.
You have a "real" business. The only person who gets to decide that is you. And, the time to decide is right now.
This short episode is a calling out, a calling forth. It's a bit of my backstory and the very best thing I've learned.
Where are the places you can (and need) to catch yourself? What limiting beliefs can you drop? Where does it get good? And, why can't you step into that now?

Why do you do what you do? What's it for? What does it create - for both you and your clients?
Today's conversation, with Maya Gaddie, is all about bringing more of yourself to the work AND caring for your clients really, really well - topics we are both very passionate about!
In the last 10 years, Maya has helped over 300 clients create purposeful and profitable signature programs.
We talk about unpacking industry standards, why you should organize now and stick to a simple system that works, and finding the thing(s) that you do best... the ones that light you up inside.
Do yourself a favor and listen to this episode. Then, keep showing up, keep being honest, and keep serving your clients. Those are the most important things AND they will never stop serving you.

Today's episode is a fun one! I talk to Jason Shen (a former NCAA gymnast, 3x venture-backed startup founder, and product leader at companies like Facebook, Etsy, and the Smithsonian) about cultivating resilience and playing by your own rules.
Jason says, "resilience is all about how we successfully adapt in the face of change. And, how you can make that change work for you and your situation." He reminds us to trust our instincts and creatively explore whatever comes next.
He also shares some daily practices to help build resilience. You've gotta hear him talk about those... so good!
Other topics covered include:
How reflecting on the past helps you learn and grow faster
Why it's important to be emotionally in-tune (and how we can hold more than one emotion at a time)
The link between rest and resilience
Normalizing the sales process, while appreciating the vulnerability and intimacy inherent there
What true strength looks like (and why it's not always what you think)
As well as, so much more!
I hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I did. And, that these insights from Jason help you build and strengthen your resilience.

In today's episode, I talk to my uncle, Ron Flint, about living the life you want to live and embracing what you want.
There are a million roads to satisfaction. And, as the owner of a successful second-generation business, he has got some wisdom to share around:
Building a business that lasts
Being a good boss
Team satisfaction and retention
Building momentum beyond the effort you're putting in each day
He also gives us the low-down on his personally-tested, favorite outdoor gear and a tip that makes packing for travel smarter (not harder). Listen in!

In my last Group Coaching/Mastermind launch, I sold out two groups with ONE sales email. And, I filled 25% of the next one. In this behind-the-scenes episode, I tell you what that looked like and share some decisions I made along the way. Namely, why I decided to prioritize pacing for myself and the size of the container for my clients as opposed to "I can do more, faster, now."
There are lots of different ways to do things. All you need to do is DECIDE what feels best to you. How do YOU want it to look? What would make the long game MORE enjoyable?
Keep growing, keep going. It's only going to get better!

Today's guest, Danielle Cohen is a Visibility Coach, professional photographer, and the creator of Visibility Medicine.* She is also the person who helped me come up with the name for this podcast!
How do you see yourself?
How do you see others?
How are you showing up to be seen?
And, where is there room to push that?
These are important questions - and ones we should definitely be asking ourselves on a regular basis, especially as online business owners.
In this episode, Danielle and I talk about that, as well as:
What has shifted in business (particularly, in the life coach space) over this past year
A term Danielle has dubbed "risky revelation"
When to take up space and when to lean back
Where we're headed - in terms of visibility and vulnerability
We'd love for you to listen and let us know what YOU think.
Does this resonate for you? Is there anything you're going to lean into/change/celebrate?
"My hope is that we continue to move towards truly being known and seeking to know the other, as fully expressed human beings." - Danielle Cohen

Today, I invite you to listen, consider, and act on whatever feels important.
Joining me in this conversation is Annette Bennett - Tlingit mother, auntie, and the Executive Director of a nonprofit working with people impacted by violence(Working Against Violence for Everyone or WAVE) in Petersburg, Alaska. (https://www.petersburgwave.org/)
Annette wants us to know that violence has a lot of layers and that it's often more complicated than people think. They also remind us that consent is about so much more than just sex.
We talk about the joys of parenting, connecting back to the 'why' that's behind what you're doing, the most difficult thing about running a non-profit, and personal boundaries (aka how they take care of themselves).
It was a lovely and important conversation. I hope you'll think so too.
The book Annette mentioned at the end is HERE, if you'd like to check it out. (Happy: Why More or Less of Everything is Fine by Derren Brown)

This conversation has so many helpful gems. But, will be especially good for anyone who wrestles with change and feeling uncomfortable or who wants to grow their capacity for leadership.
Today's guest, Stacey Heath is an Organizational Development specialist and a self-proclaimed change addict.
We talk about:
How values drive our decisions
Why self-awareness is so important
One of the most critical boundaries we can have
Recognizing and creating opportunities for 'leadership moments'
And, leaning into discomfort/resistance (to get to the good stuff)
As Stacey says, "we avoid discomfort and that's normal." But, what are we potentially missing out on by doing so?
Stacey has a fascinating story, does really important work in the world, and is a joy to know. Take a listen to our conversation and think about what resonates for you.
Stacey Heath is a Principal at Change Dynamics, LLC. She is also the Board Chair and a long-time volunteer for StreetRoots (https://www.streetroots.org/), Portland Oregon's award-winning weekly street newspaper.

What was your biggest business failure? What things have you invested in where you didn't get the result you wanted? What would you say to coaches and entrepreneurs who are in the depths of self-doubt, shame, and misery? What do you do to move through fear/when you're feeling like a hot mess?
Have you ever wished you could ask someone these questions? Someone who's maybe just a little further along on the journey than you are, someone who would answer truthfully and with your best interest in mind?
Today's podcast interview is one of my favorites so far! We turn the tables, a bit, and I am interviewed by one of my clients, Savanna Schiavo.
Savanna always shows up with so much genuine excitement and curiosity. She asks me ALL THE THINGS she has ever wanted to know and I answer, candidly.
It's a bunch of stuff I never talk about out loud. And, a bunch of stuff Savanna said was so helpful to know. We peel back the curtain on my life and business. Nothing is off-limits, we leave it all on the table.
Here's an overview. We talk about:
My biggest failure and what I learned from it
Investments that didn't turn out the way I'd planned
The book I wrote and left behind (you'll have to listen to the episode to hear more on that)
How I make decisions now
How to trust yourself
Why it's dangerous to put people on pedestals and what you can/should do instead
The thing I am currently making more room for
Freedom as a business owner/entrepreneur

What do coaching and commercial fishing have in common? More than you might think.
In today's episode, I relive my time on a commercial fishing boat with Captain and long-time friend, Tony Moran.
Like many guests of the show, Tony is an amazing human and has his own unique way of doing things... Listen in as we talk about:
How to find and take advantage of the opportunities that surround you
Your responsibility, as a boss, to the people you hire
Following the money AND enjoying the heck out of your job
How being efficient really pays off
And, why everyone should find a great mentor
Tony says, "where I live and work is one of the most beautiful places on the planet." I agree... the scenery and marine life we got to see every day on the boat was one of my favorite parts as well. Sit back and let us tell you about it!
Tony Moran is the Captain of the Tacoma. He resides in Petersburg, AK (where I'm from). And, has a 1600 Ton Master’s license - enabling him to operate the BIG boats. He supplies to Trident Seafoods. And, is very passionate about/would love us all to take a look at a cause that is near and dear to his heart: Stopping the Pebble Mine in Bristol Bay (https://stoppebbleminenow.org/).

At this point, I have recorded about 15 episodes and there are a few things I've learned.
Every once in a while, I'll drop a behind-the-scenes/bonus episode, because I love to be let in on other people's process - what they're up to, what they're learning, how they're going to shift and change as a result. So, I thought I'd do the same for you. It's all part of the FUN!

Today's episode features my friend, Meredith Holley. She's a lawyer, life coach, and the founder of Eris Conflict Resolution. The work that she's doing in the world is so unique and important - I can't wait to share it with you!
I'd encourage you to listen today not only for how the thoughts and ideas we discuss might apply to you, but how they could also benefit and be applicable to someone you know.
Meredith is a cultural health expert who helps employees stop toxic work environments and sexual harassment without losing their jobs. Her practice is very client-focused and explores the myriad of options that are available in situations where it can often feel like there aren't any good ones.
The problems we can face in the workplace are serious (especially for folks who hold a marginalized identity). But, there is hope.
The stories Meredith shares, about her own and some of her clients' experiences, are a great example.
I hope you enjoy this conversation. And, I would encourage you to check out more about what Meredith is up to at ErisResolution.com.
She is also gifting listeners FREE ACCESS to both of her books:
Career Defense 101: How to Stop Sexual Harassment Without Quitting Your Job (CareerDefense101.com)

We have a special episode for you this week, where I talk to my team (Nikki & Erin) about ALL the things. It's kind of like an out-loud team-building exercise, where we take all of the behind-the-scenes, bring them front-and-center, and invite you along for the ride!
We talk about:
Why being in a hurry and reactive in business can be so costly
Why it's important to operate from your values and actually "walk your talk"
What a "business minimum baseline" is and how that can serve you (and your team)
The process of moving from a "me" to a "we"
Our mission to make the coaching industry better
What we each bring to the team and why we love working together
You'll also hear about Nikki's love for rom-coms and why rapid-fire questions make Erin sweat.
Business should be FUN and this conversation is a great example of how it really, really can be! Welcome to Team CG. 🧡
We all hang out over on Insta, probably the most.

My guest today is Rob Cohen, my former employer and a restaurateur who builds community through public spaces.
In the past 27 years, Rob has built and/or owned a cafe, whiskey bar, fine dining restaurant, brewpub, deli and pizzeria. In all of these spaces he has tried to create inclusive, convivial places where friends become regulars and regulars become friends.
I learned a lot from Rob in this area and believe you will too. Take a listen as we talk about everything from the client/customer experience to taking risks and innovation in your industry.
This short conversation is a masterclass in holding space for others and winning at the long game with my friend, Rob Cohen.
