Welcome to the Intuitive Eating & Body Positivity Podcast with Terri Pugh, a space for you to find out more about Intuitive Eating, learn how to ditch the diets for good, and improve your body confidence. We're talking about Intuitive Eating, body positivity and body confidence, Health At Every Size, and why everyone should be ditching dieting for good in order to improve their relationships with food. If you spend a lot of your day thinking about how you look, it is easy to assume that your body image and confidence will change depending on what you see in the mirror. What you often miss is how much of your life has nothing to do with your appearance at all.
Appearance anxiety can take over so quickly that you forget what your day actually involves. You forget the decisions you make, the people you support, the problems you solve and all the ways you show up without even thinking about it.
This week’s article walks you through what is really happening in your day and why your achievements will give you far better evidence of who you are than your appearance ever will.
When you take a step back and look at your day properly, you will realise how much you do that has nothing to do with your appearance, and it is such a relief when you see it clearly.
So this week I give you an honest look at why feeling confident in your body can be more to do with your actions than your looks, and how much your life already proves this.
In this episode I also mention Byron Katie's Four Liberating Questions. You can find more on that at https://thework.com/2017/10/four-liberating-questions/

Do you ever find yourself worrying that you said the wrong thing or caused a shift in a relationship? Asking yourself “was it something I said?” or “what did I do?”.
Many women slip into overthinking relationships because old patterns make them assume they are at fault. One small change in someone’s behaviour and you’re in self-blame before you can even pause to question it.
This article looks at why you react that way and what might really be happening beneath the surface. I’m talking about the link between old patterns, the inner critic and relationships, and the instinct to blame yourself.
You will see how much of this comes from conditioning rather than truth, and how freeing it can be to question those automatic thoughts.
If you want a calmer, kinder way to understand your relationships, take a moment to read this one.

You might not have noticed, but your confidence may have taken a hit because your health isn't what it used to be? Maybe your energy’s dipped, or your body just isn’t behaving the way it used to, and suddenly showing up in your business or life feels harder than it should.
That’s what this episode is about – the ways that feeling less well can start to shake your self-belief.
I wrote this episode based on my own feelings, but also for the woman who’s always been strong, capable, and “on it”, and now finds herself wondering why she doesn’t quite feel like that version of herself anymore. It’s a gentle reminder that you don’t have to be at your best to still be confident, and worthy, and successful.
💛 Come and have a listen. Let’s talk about what confidence really looks like when your body feels different, and how you can begin to trust yourself again.

Take my quick listener habits survey
Have you ever noticed how your posture changes when you’re feeling confident… or when you’re not?
In this episode, I’m exploring the powerful link between posture and confidence — how the way you sit, stand, and move can reflect what’s really going on inside. Your body language tells a story about your self-belief, and understanding it can help you build calm, grounded, embodied confidence.
This isn’t about forcing yourself to stand up straight or fake confidence. It’s about learning to listen to your body and notice how posture changes when you feel safe, capable, or seen. When you’ve spent years trying to make yourself smaller, it’s easy to carry that story in your shoulders, your stance, even your breath.
We’ll talk about how posture affects confidence and self-esteem, what it means to take up space without apology, and why true confidence isn’t something you perform — it’s something you feel.
You’ll leave this episode with a deeper awareness of your mind-body connection and a new respect for how your body supports your confidence, presence, and power.

Rise From Within Launch Episode — Welcome to the New Chapter
Hang on a minute! Something's changed around here!!
That's right. Introducing the new era for this podcast, Rise From Within — for the woman who wants to stand tall and show up with confidence.
In this first episode under the new name, I’m sharing why the podcast has evolved from The Intuitive Eating & Body Positivity Podcast into Rise From Within, a show for women who are ready to own their space in life, in business, and in their bodies.
I took a step back for a couple of months to have a think about the direction I wanted the podcast to go in, and I realised my message needed to grow with me and with my business direction.
Confidence has always been at the heart of everything I do. Not just food or body image confidence, but the deep, inner self‑confidence that helps you show up fully as yourself too.
In this episode, I talk about the evolution of the show, what Rise From Within stands for, and how we’ll explore the many layers of confidence. We're talking all things confidence, from boundaries and visibility, to body acceptance and business leadership.
If you’ve been here since the early days, don’t worry, the intuitive eating and body confidence are still very much part of our world, but we’re expanding the conversation now. When you heal your relationship with food and your body, you make room for so much more growth, and I want to help you explore that growth too.
So, if you’re ready to rise in confidence, self‑belief, and presence — this is where it begins.
I hope you're going to enjoy it as much as I will.

A few days ago, I was standing in a shop sending a parcel when I realised I was surrounded by walls of brightly coloured vape liquids. All lined up like sweets, with flavours from mint to bubblegum to strawberry milkshake.
And it got me thinking… Governments have worked so hard to make smoking less appealing. It’s hidden behind shutters, wrapped in plain packaging with grim warnings, yet vapes get to sit front and centre looking tempting.
While I was mulling this over I realised that dieting is treated in exactly the same way – except the difference is, we rarely talk about the health risks of dieting.
So in this episode I’m comparing vaping and dieting – how they’re sold as “better” choices, the industries behind them, the addictive cycles they create, and why one gets public health warnings while the other gets praise.
I’m digging into the physical and psychological effects of dieting, from metabolism slowdown to hormone disruption, disordered eating, and long-term weight cycling.
I’m talking about:
If you’ve ever wondered why dieting still gets the cultural gold star when it can be so harmful, this one’s going to make you think.

Ever caught your reflection in a shop window and thought, “Hang on… I didn’t look like that this morning”? Yep, me too!
So in this episode, I’m going to explain why mirrors and windows can make us look completely different, even on the same day, in the same outfit.
I’m going to talk about how reflections work (yes, there’s some light science in this one!), how lighting, angles and movement all play a part, and why the mirror you trust at home might not be showing you the “real” you either.
Some insight and reassurance for when your reflection catches you off guard.

Last night, a trip to a familiar venue for my weekly pool match brought back a memory I hadn’t felt in years. I was ten years old, dancing in front of a mirror in the toilets, completely lost in joy. I wasn’t worrying about my body. I wasn’t thinking about food. I was just happy.
In this episode, I share what it felt like to reconnect with that version of me, and how soon after diet culture crept in and began to change everything. This is a personal and emotional reflection on body image, childhood innocence, and the moment things started to shift.
I talk about what I’d say to my younger self now, how we can all learn from those early memories, and what it means to heal the relationship with your body and reclaim the joy that was once yours.
Whether you’ve lost touch with your younger self or you're working on healing your body image, this episode is a gentle reminder that she’s still in there. She always was. Maybe she just needs a little coaxing back out.

You're out for food with someone and they order the salad, skip dessert, and say they’re “just not hungry,” and suddenly you’re left wondering why you can’t seem to do that. The jealousy creeps in, along with a whole load of guilt and self-doubt.
In this episode, I'm unpacking the messy, very human experience of feeling envious of someone else’s eating habits. From the illusion of control to the dream of being someone who “just doesn’t think about food,” I'm going there.
I'll explore why that envy shows up, what it’s really about, and how to move towards your own version of food peace.

There’s something strangely addictive about a new food plan, isn’t there? The structure. The rules. The praise you give yourself for getting it “right”. That feeling of finally being in control of your food, your body, and your life.
But once you start intuitive eating, that high disappears. And in its place is quiet and calm. It’s all a bit “meh.” It can feel unsettling, even disappointing… like something’s missing.
In this episode, I’m talking about the part of intuitive eating we don’t always admit – that sometimes, we miss the highs of dieting.
We’ll explore:
✨ Why the novelty of food plans can feel so good
✨ What makes that buzz so short-lived (and what it costs us)
✨ Why the calm of intuitive eating feels weird at first
✨ How to settle into a way of eating that doesn’t need drama to feel meaningful

Let’s talk about convenience food – the frozen meals, the microwave rice, the jars of sauce you throw into a pan when you're too tired to think.
There’s so much judgement around these foods. They're often labelled as lazy, unhealthy, or 'not real cooking', but is that really fair?
In this episode, I am breaking down the stigma around convenience food and exploring how it can actually support your intuitive eating journey.
From saving your sanity on chaotic evenings to helping you stay fed during tough times, convenience food has its place, and it deserves some respect!
I’ll chat through the pros and cons, the classist nonsense that often gets tangled up in these conversations, and how to use convenience food in a way that feels intuitive and guilt-free.
Spoiler: you're allowed to eat the ready meal and be a grown adult who cares about their wellbeing.

Somewhere along the line, you might have been told who to be.
Maybe you were raised to stay small, keep quiet, not take up space. Maybe you’ve always believed you’re “just someone with no willpower” or that confidence simply isn’t for you. Maybe you've dieted your whole life, or you were praised for shrinking and learned that smaller meant better.
Just because that was your story, doesn’t mean it has to be your future.
In this episode, I’m talking about how your past – no matter how loud it’s been – doesn’t get to decide who you are now. Ingrained beliefs around food, body image, and confidence can keep you stuck, and it's time to loosen their grip so you can finally start showing up the way you want to.
Yes, there’s value in acknowledging and working through the past. But you don’t have to carry it forever.
You are not defined by the old labels, the dieting history, or the way others taught you to play small.
You get to choose what comes next.

When a shocking image goes viral - like the so-called “obesity X-ray” recently shared by The Joe Rogan Experience - it’s easy to get swept up in fear-based narratives about obesity, dressed up as health advice. But what’s the real story behind this image, and what does it say about the way we treat people in bigger bodies?
In this episode, I unpack the truth behind the image (spoiler: it’s not a real X-ray), the harm caused by fear-mongering posts like these, and what body positivity actually stands for. We’ll explore weight stigma in healthcare, the importance of behaviours over body size, and why no one owes the world a smaller body.
If you’ve seen the Joe Rogan post and felt anger, shame or confusion, this conversation is for you.

In this episode, I’m talking about the hidden ways we ask for permission from others in our life. From what we wear to how we show up at work, in relationships, and on social media, we’re often seeking permission or seeking approval from others.
You’ll hear about a powerful conversation I had with a coaching client who realised she was constantly looking to others for approval in what she wears to work, and the colleagues that she looks up to and compares herself to.
We unpack where that need for permission comes from, how it shows up in sneaky ways (hello, “does this look okay?”), and what it costs us when we
And of course, there’s a reflection prompt to help you take what we’ve talked about and start applying it in your own life.

When your body changes, getting dressed can go from a quick task to a full-blown identity crisis. The jeans don’t fit. The tops don’t sit right. Nothing feels like you anymore. You don’t even know what suits you now.
Then throw budget stress, limited sizing, and fast fashion guilt into the mix. It’s no wonder so many women feel stuck.
In this episode, I’m sharing how I refreshed my wardrobe for just a few pounds per piece, and why it’s about so much more than clothes.
You’ll hear:
If you’ve been putting off buying clothes because you’re waiting for your body to change, this is your gentle nudge to stop waiting and start dressing the version of you that exists right now.
✨ Inspired by real experience, and packed with practical tips, this one’s for anyone who’s felt overwhelmed by a wardrobe that no longer fits, physically or emotionally.

We don’t always realise when we’re holding ourselves back. It can look like skipping dessert, staying quiet in meetings, dressing down, or waiting for someone to talk to us at a networking event. On the surface, it seems like no big deal. But underneath it’s a pattern of staying small, and it chips away at our confidence bit by bit.
In this episode, I’m looking at the subtle but powerful ways we keep ourselves small in our everyday lives, and what it’s really costing us.
I’m talking about,
💃 The everyday signs that you might be keeping yourself small
👗 Why it often feels safer to stay small (and why that makes sense!)
🍰 How staying small holds you back – emotionally, professionally, and personally
🔇 Gentle but powerful ways to start taking up more space in the world
💭 One question to help you shift out of hiding and into showing up
I know that playing small means you often feel overlooked, frustrated, or like the real you is hiding in the background, so this episode is for you.
There’s even a reflection prompt inside this one, and I’d love to hear what small act of boldness you try this week!
Oh, and I’m also telling you about my new YouTube troll. It’s hilarious, honestly!

Have you ever found yourself reaching for something tasty – not because you’re hungry, but because it just feels good?
Maybe it’s chocolate after a stressful day, or chips while watching telly, or just a snack because it looks too good to resist.
That’s hedonic eating – eating for pleasure – and it’s something we all do.
In this episode (inspired by a listener question from Rose in Canada!), we’re digging into what hedonic eating is, why it’s totally normal, and how it fits into a more peaceful, intuitive relationship with food.
We talk about:
Plus: Luna’s very dramatic trip to the vet (she’s fine, she’s just not talking to me about it), and the unexpected joy of an early morning food shop.
It’s a practical, kind conversation about food, pleasure, and ditching the guilt.

Ever felt like you need to change your body before you can start feeling confident? Maybe you’ve told yourself you’ll wear the outfit, post the video, or speak up at work... once you’ve lost weight or when you feel better in your skin. Sound familiar?
In this episode, we’re busting the myth that confidence is something you earn once you’ve reached a certain size.
Confidence isn’t about how you look – it’s about how you show up. And you honestly don’t have to wait until you feel 100% ready to start building it.
I’ll walk you through:
Whether you're struggling with body confidence, holding back in your business, or avoiding putting yourself forward in your job, this episode will give you the nudge and the know-how to take up space unapologetically.
You don’t need to wait to feel more confident. You can start now.

Today I had a surprising realisation over breakfast. It turns out, I still love overnight oats. I first discovered them during my Slimming World days. So why am I still eating them now, years after letting go of food rules and diet plans? Because I actually enjoy them, and I think that’s worth talking about a little bit.
This episode explores how we can reclaim foods from our dieting past, how some meals still serve us, and how others (like pasta salad!) might be worth revisiting in a whole new way. If you've ever questioned why you eat what you eat, or avoided something that reminds you of old diet habits, this one’s for you.

We talk about how the fashion industry reinforces unrealistic beauty standards, the struggles of plus-size shopping, and why so many women feel disconnected from their wardrobes.
Samantha shares how clothing can actually be a tool for empowerment rather than frustration, and why breaking free from rigid style rules can help you show up with confidence in every part of your life.
If you’re anything like me you’ll understand the feeling of standing in front of your wardrobe, feeling lost, wondering why clothes shopping feels so difficult. If you have, this conversation is for you.
We’re talking about:
✔️ Why style is about more than just clothes - it’s about confidence and energy
✔️ How your star signs should determine what you wear and how you show up
✔️ How the fashion industry fails women, especially plus-size shoppers
✔️ Why traditional styling advice can be limiting rather than empowering
✔️ The role of body image in our clothing choices and how to shift our mindset
✔️ Practical steps to rebuild a wardrobe that truly serves you

Have you ever heard the phrase “He’s punching above his weight” and stopped to think about what it really means? It’s often said as a joke, but underneath it lies a deeper issue—the idea that a woman’s worth is defined by how she looks, while a man’s worth is measured by his success, humour, or status.
In this episode, we dive into the impact of the male gaze and the unrealistic pressures placed on women to be seen as ‘attractive enough.’ We explore how these outdated ideas shape relationships, self-worth, and body image—and, most importantly, how we can start to break free from them.
I'm talking about:
✅ Why the phrase “He’s punching” is more damaging than it seems
✅ How media, dating culture, and social norms reinforce the male gaze
✅ The emotional impact of feeling like you have to ‘maintain’ your attractiveness
✅ How to reclaim your body and self-worth from external validation
✅ Ways to challenge and shut down these outdated ideas when you hear them
Also, there's an update on my coaching prices. I've DROPPED them! Take a look at the "work with me" link below.

Have you ever wondered why it’s so hard to let go of old habits, even when you know they aren’t really helping you? You might recognise that dieting makes you miserable, but you keep going back. Or maybe you’re fully aware that constantly body-checking in the mirror isn’t doing you any favours, yet you just can’t seem to stop.
You’re not the only one - I was there with you at one point. I knew that the dieting, the binge eating, and the criticism in the mirror was not good for me, but I did it over and over again.
We don’t hold onto behaviours for no reason though. There’s always something deeper at play. Quite often those old habits around food and body image are actually trying to protect us - even if they’re also keeping us stuck, and even if it doesn’t feel like it.
So in this episode of The Intuitive Eating & Body Positivity Podcast I’m looking at 3 of the biggest reasons why it’s so hard to stop dieting, what keeps you holding on to old behaviours, and asking you how do they really serve you?
Also, I’ll tell you how I’m quite amazed at the new drink I discovered this week - it blew my mind when I found it 🤯

Have you ever caught yourself explaining your diet to someone?
Diet culture has convinced us that we need to justify what we eat and why we eat it, and some of those justifications are downright ridiculous!
In this episode, I’m going to give you 20 of my favourite diet excuses, explaining why they’re a little bit crazy, laughing at the nonsense, and uncovering the real reasons why we feel the need to explain our food choices.
If you’ve ever said things like “It’s not a diet, it’s a lifestyle!” or “I have to track everything or I’ll lose control,” then this episode is for you!
Let’s challenge these beliefs, find some food freedom, and ditch the justifications.

Over the years, we’ve seen celebrities and influencers championing body positivity, rejecting diet culture and embracing self-acceptance. Many of us found comfort in their messages, feeling seen and supported in our own body positivity journeys..
But lately, there’s been a clear change. Some of the same people who built their platforms on rejecting weight loss culture have now started losing weight.
Completely co-incidentally (yeh right….) the rise of GLP-1 injections such as Ozempic seems to have escalated this, and now their once-empowering messages have been replaced with posts about body “transformation” and the supposed benefits of shedding weight.
So, if you’ve felt let down by this, you’re not alone. Let’s talk about why this happens, why it hurts so much, and why your frustration is completely valid.

Inspired by a new book I’m reading - Love Yourself Like Your Life Depends On It by Kamal Ravikant - I’ve been thinking about how we can help our relationship with food and our bodies from a more holistic perspective.
Inspired by the book "Love Yourself Like Your Life Depends On It" by Kamal Ravikant, I’m asking you to ask yourself one question - "Would I do this if I truly loved myself?"
In this episode of the Intuitive Eating & Body Positivity Podcast, I’m talking about how asking yourself that one question can reshape your relationship with food, your body, and your overall well-being.
In any given moment this question can guide our choices around food, clothing, self-care, and personal development, helping us break free from the constraints of diet culture and weight stigma.
Join me as we uncover how embracing self-love can lead to a more fulfilling and positive life.

Welcome back to the Intuitive Eating and Body Positivity Podcast!
In this episode, I'll explore the valid anger many of us feel towards diet culture and how we can transform that anger into a powerful tool for change. This is what I’m covering in this one:
📺 Why I am blaming YouTube for my break from podcasting
😡 How dieting makes us angry
🤬 The difference between positive anger and negative anger
⏩ How to turn that anger into action

This week, I'm talking about making space for the new you. It’s all about creating an environment that uplifts and supports the person you’re becoming, not the one diet culture tried to shape you into.
From your kitchen cupboards to your wardrobe (and even your mindset), little changes can make a big difference. In this episode I want to help you explore your surroundings and how to make them reflect your new, unapologetic self - without overwhelm or a massive budget.
Here’s what I’m chatting to you about this week:
✨ Clearing out the kitchen clutter and swapping diet-focused tools for things that bring you joy—yes, I’m looking at those scabby old containers!
👗 Saying goodbye to clothes that don’t fit or spark joy, and making your wardrobe a space you love opening every day.
🍽 Creating an eating space that makes meals feel enjoyable, whether it’s swapping out chipped plates or upgrading to cutlery you actually like.
💡 Sprucing up your home with lighting, organisation, or little touches that make your spaces feel brighter and more “you.”
🧠 Making emotional space by clearing out negative thoughts and building in small, positive routines like gratitude or joy jars.
This episode is packed with practical tips to help you create a home (and a headspace) that’s as fabulous as the new you. Are you ready? Hit play >>

Some people love the chat with the consultant in front of everyone at the diet club, and some hate it. What camp are you in? Either way, there was always the same question..... "how much are you going to lose this week?". Now first off, I have no idea. But still I, like everyone else there, picked a number..... "I'll lose 2lbs this week".
What is with that number? Why did I pick it? Why did half the diet club pick it? This week I'm pondering over that and trying to work out why the 2lbs loss was such a popular target.
Spoiler alert! I'm also going to be telling you why it's a bit ridiculous!
Let's chat about the struggles with achieving that 2lbs loss, why it feels different depending on the week you have just had, how our bodies behave naturally, and how setting that 2lbs target for the week can encourage more restriction and more guilt.

This Week’s Topic: My Experience with Noom
In this episode, I’m telling you all about my experience with Noom, a popular app that claims to support weight loss through a unique approach.
I wanted to try it on your behalf and share my insights from an intuitive eating perspective. I’m going to spill the beans on all of this:
Also, the episode I refer to about standing on the scales and weighing myself, and what that brought up for me, is way back at episode 4. Go give it a listen!

Intuitive eating helps improve your relationship with food, but the desire to lose weight can often remain, so can you use intuitive eating for weight loss? This week I'm talking about whether or not it is possible to be an intuitive eater and lose weight at the same time.
Let’s have a good natter about the will to lose weight, the correlation between weight and health, mindset, values, goals, and what to do if you’re in that middle ground between wanting to lose weight and wanting to be an intuitive eater.

In this episode, we explore the ways to kickstart your journey away from dieting and into intuitive eating.
If you have started intuitive eating, this is a good time to bring your focus back. But if you’re new to it, here are a few starting points to get going with it:
✨ How can you begin intuitive eating today?
✨ Are you aware of the impact of diet culture in your surroundings?
✨ Are you in tune with your body's cues for hunger and fullness?
✨ What does your mealtime routine look like at home?
✨ Do you give yourself intentional, focused time to eat?
✨ Are distractions keeping you from listening to your inner intuitive eater?
✨Are you mindful of what you're eating, or is it mindless eating?
✨Are you introducing foods you truly enjoy into your diet?
✨Have you decluttered your social media of negativity?
Remember, the beauty of intuitive eating lies in its pace. Take your time, embrace these principles gradually, and grow comfortable with each step along the way.

This one is by far the most listened to, so I thought we'd start here!
It seems when I started this podcast we were just coming out of the dreaded lockdowns, so it was odd listening back to how I was talking about taking a trip into town and finally getting a long overdue bra fitting.
But the main topic of the episode is the reasons why it's not your fault if you find yourself constantly yo-yo dieting. I discuss the impact of diet culture and beauty standards on our subconscious and how it affects our self-image. I also share some eye-opening observations from a week-long experiment I conducted to track the prevalence of diet and beauty-related content in our daily lives.
I also touch on the first principle of intuitive eating, which is rejecting the diet mentality. It's a challenging process, especially when we're constantly bombarded with messages that reinforce unrealistic beauty standards.
Plus I share a positive encounter where individuals engaged in an actual sensible conversation about weight loss and overall health!
Whether you're new to intuitive eating or not, this is a great one to listen to and get some awareness of the influences around you on your eating habits and body confidence.

I looked at some photos recently and caught myself saying "I wish I could still wear that,", but do I really??
I’m taking a somewhat nostalgic journey through the fashion trends of yesteryears. From shell suits and banana clips to heather shimmer lipstick and mini skirts, I’m reminiscing about my past fashion choices and reflecting on what still appeals to me today (hint, not very much of it!!).
This is why I’m talking about the evolution of her personal style and the importance of wearing clothes that make you feel confident and comfortable, no matter your age or current trends. It’s all about personal preference in fashion and finding your own style, making shopping enjoyable, and dressing for yourself rather than for others' opinions.
Get ready for a delightful mix of fashion nostalgia, and practical advice!

In this week’s episode I’m going to guide you through the incredible benefits of journaling as a tool for supporting your body positivity and intuitive eating journey.
Journaling has helped me confront and change negative beliefs about my body and self-worth so I wanted to share some tips with you too.
I’m talking about,
✏️How writing helps process thoughts more efficiently.
✏️What to use to be able to journal.
✏️Ideas for what you can journal on.
✏️When to journal.
✏️How journaling helps you to question and change external beliefs.
✏️How to keep your writing private.
✏️How it can become a habit that provides comfort and relief.
✏️How journaling can be imperfect and messy.
✏️How it’s ok to be negative in your journaling.
I encourage everyone to give journaling a try and would love to hear about both your new and seasoned journaling experiences.
Before I get into that though, I’ve got loads to waffle on about. Podcast acoustics, the northern lights, the shockingly high prices in Iceland (the shop, not the country!), and the incredible documentary from Aubrey Gordon, "Your Fat Friend".
Also, a highlight of today’s show for me is getting to read out a heart-warming piece of fan mail that truly touched me, praising the authenticity and realness of this podcast. Your support means everything, so thank you Jo.

Hey everyone, it's Terri here, welcoming you back to my podcast.
Today, I'm getting real with you about taking responsibility for my own actions. I'm stepping up to take better care of myself, especially with my battle against chronic fatigue syndrome. It’s been a rough ride, and honestly, I’ve let some things slide more than I should have. But you know what? It’s time to change that.
In this episode, I’m opening up about everything from my struggles with food trucks vs. veggies, and how joining the Wonkee Club has helped me to start to turn things around. I got inspired by Scottee, this awesome yoga instructor, who’s all about embracing different body types and just finding joy in yoga, however you can.
We'll chat about the everyday challenges people like us face, and how I’m learning to navigate these while taking better control of my health and happiness.
It's definitely an honest and open episode on my part!

Hey everyone, welcome to Episode 129 of our podcast, “People Don't Like Change.”
In this episode I am tackling a pretty big topic, how people change towards us as we start to change our attitude towards our bodies and food. As we change and become our genuine, body positive, intuitive eating self we often hear comments from people around us that make us question their friendship. So this week we’re talking about staying strong amid the negativity, breaking down those comments, and really focusing on what's best for our own well-being, and I'm talking about why the harsh things people might say about our bodies or food choices often say more about them than us.
I will also take us through some changes happening right here on the podcast - goodbye to our less active Facebook group and hello to our cool new texting feature! Plus, we'll dive into how being part of a supportive group, whether it's online or in person, can totally transform our journey towards loving ourselves just as we are.
I've even got some personal shares, like updating my office space, and the amazing well wishes received from you lovely lot after my sad news last week.
So, grab your favourite snack, settle in, and let’s get into it.

Welcome to Episode 128 of our podcast, "Body confidence in the workplace, why it matters and how we can all help". Today, I'm going to delve into a sensitive yet crucial topic that affects many professionals: body confidence and its impact on workplace dynamics and personal performance.
Let me take you through various aspects of body shaming and bias in professional environments, from subtle comments about food choices to explicit biases in job selections and office interactions.
I'll share some personal anecdotes and broader insights on how negative body image manifests in the workplace. We're talking ineffective diet competitions, poor relationships with food, and diminished self-esteem, all of which can profoundly affect one's career and mental health.
Furthermore, I'll discuss the importance of fostering a supportive work culture that embraces diversity in body types and provides a safe space for mental health discussions.
Join me as I explore strategies to combat body shaming, promote body positivity, and create inclusive workplace policies.
Whether you're an employee, manager, or HR professional, there's much to learn about the significant role body confidence plays in shaping our professional lives.

In this week’s episode I’m talking to Charlie Garnham.
Charlie is a Human Design expert, specialising in helping women to move away from their Good Girl conditioning and stepping away from the frantic “doing” of their businesses and lives and finding more flow and ease by becoming the natural leader they were born to be. Intuitive, yet practical, Charlie uses the Human Design system to uncover your personal map to success in life through teaching the system to others and guiding them to embody their unique design.
A marketer in her corporate career, Charlie has spent her life trying to understand why she is so different and found the answer in her experimentation with the Human Design system which has enabled her to stop feeling stressed and bitter, and live with ease in all aspects of life.
In my conversation with Charlie, we talk about the concept of human design (a system that helps individuals understand their true selves and what makes them different based on their time and place of birth), and its application in areas like eating behaviours, emotional states, and movement habits, with an emphasis on aligning individual needs with lifestyle choices for improved well-being.
Some of the things we covered are:
⭐ How human design can be linked to how people approach eating behaviours and body confidence by understanding your individual conditioning and learning your unique decision-making process.
⭐ The importance of recognizing personal preferences in eating, moving, and living rather than following societal norms or influencer trends.
⭐ The primary health system derived in human design charts and how understanding your environment can affect digestion.
⭐ How human design can serve as a deconditioning tool.
⭐ The sacral response and gut instinct, and the importance of asking yes or no questions to elicit a bodily reaction for decision-making.
⭐ Emotional authority in human design, and the importance of emotional awareness in the decision-making process for food choices.
⭐ The importance of sleep and its impact on health, and how your human design can help with that.
⭐ Movement based on the body graph in human design.
And you can find Charlie here:

Let's talk about whether or not you should watch Fat Friends.
With the focus of the Netflix show being based around people who met at and regularly visit a diet club, it is understandable that you might be wary of watching if you're trying to escape dieting yourself.
I'm going to explain how I see Fat Friends through my very own eyes - the funny and satirical, the sympathetic approach to its characters, and how we can relate to the depiction of different foods chosen when on a diet, loss of control around food, and how dieting affects family members' relationship with food.
The show highlights fat shaming in and out of diet clubs, laughs at all the clichéd sayings related to diets, addresses relationships with people when you're in a bigger body, and more. It's sympathetic and designed to make you laugh out loud at dieting.
It's funny, it's sad, it's heart warming, and it's light-hearted. Let me give you a whistlestop tour, and then you can make your own decision on whether to watch it yourself.

It’s food waste action week. Reducing food waste is a great thing for us all to strive to do, but as someone coming out of dieting and trying to make peace with not having to finish everything on your plate to do this can be quite difficult. It can plunge you straight back into a dieting mentality.
There are many reasons why we might be uneasy about wasting food. Let’s chat about why that might be, and then let’s find ways to reduce food waste without compromising on your intuitive eating habits.
Here's the food sharing app I talk about: Olio
There may be others, but this is the one I have experience in using.

Bingeing looks different to different people, but whether you are a diagnosed binge eater or have simply had a massive blow out and now feel absolutely terrible for it, those feelings that you are left with after are awful. You can feel guilt, shame, embarrassment, and like you need to undo it all somehow. In this episode I'm going to help you to work through that.
I have some tips to help you understand where your binge eating or overeating may have come from, how to process the thoughts and feelings, and some ideas for what to do after a binge to help you feel physically and emotionally better.
In this episode I talk about my binge restrict pendulum episode too. This might be a great one to listen to next if you haven't heard of it before, and you can find that at episode 97.

Have you ever had those days when nothing seems to go right? Well, let me start you off in this episode with with my own mishap involving some highly anticipated chicken nuggets and chips. Let's call it nugget-gate.
Nostalgia's a tricky thing, and in this episode, we're not just reminiscing about the fashion disasters (hello, neon!) but also wading through the deeper waters of body image and identity.
In this episode, host I am delving into the concept of embracing change and letting go of attachment to the past. We'll get deep and consider the very concept of reality. Remember those late-night philosophical debates about life and existence? Well we're on the verge of that today!
Let's look a why sometimes, saying goodbye to our old selves—complete with those bootcut jeans—can open doors to brighter new experiences. It's all about celebrating growth and fulfilment, even if it means letting go of the body and lifestyle we once knew.
Let's explore the idea that the past is not real; what is real is how we have evolved and changed over time. I'm talking about...
Hopefully this inspires you to move forward with acceptance and appreciation for the journey of personal growth, and allowing you to detach from the past.
So, pull up a chair (and maybe some snacks—just keep them off the floor!), as we get deep into it! Let me know what you think when you're done listening.

We are at the end of the back to basics series! We have looked at each of the 10 principles of intuitive eating, and hopefully it has helped you to understand them a little bit better, and see how they fit for you, in your life.
I do want to finish off with a quick episode that will help you to bring it all together, and give you some final tips and words of wisdom.
I’d like to take a few minutes to talk to you about what order to work through the principles of intuitive eating (hint, there isn’t on!), about having patience and compassion in the process, and about the importance of support while you’re on your journey.
Oh, and I have a little reminder of how awesome you are at the end for you.

Today in my back to basics series I’m talking about intuitive eating principle principle 10, honour your health - gentle nutrition.
Gentle nutrition is very intentionally the last of the intuitive eating principles.
In this episode I am going to help you find a way to consider nutrition without being overwhelmed or all consumed by it.
I’m explaining how diet plans put a large focus on nutrition, and make you feel guilty for not being ‘healthy’ enough.
I’ll also explain why terms like healthy and unhealthy are words you should stop using, and give you a new way to think about it.
And I’m going to help you to understand how you can tell from the way your body feels what kind of nutrients you need - in a very gentle, intuitive way.

Today in my back to basics series I’m talking about intuitive eating principle 9, movement - feel the difference.
Exercise does not have to be gruelling. You don’t have to live by “no pain, no gain”.
Exercise also does not have to be a way for you to earn your food, extra calories, points or syns.
Exercise can be full of joy and fun.
And, hear me out, exercise is not mandatory - you get to choose whether you exercise or not!
I’m going to help you have a better relationship with exercise. Let’s start by simply calling it movement. Feels better already, right?

Today in my back to basics series I’m talking about intuitive eating principle 8, respect your body.
People often talk about body positivity, and loving your body, but that’s tough when you’re in a place where to even like your body feels like a stretch.
In this episode I’ll help you start that process. Let’s talk about body respect instead, and body appreciation. Let’s just start there.
I’ll give you some crazy stats about women wanting to change their bodies, and what they’d give for that. I’ll ask some questions of you so that you can evaluate where you are with your body respect now.
And we’ll talk about the things that are within our control, and outside of our control, when it comes to what affects our body confidence.

Today in my back to basics series I’m talking about intuitive eating principle 7, Cope with Your Emotions with Kindness
Emotional eating gets a bad rap. We see it on TV and in movies all the time - have a bad break up, eat a tub of ice cream!
But what if I told you that emotional eating is fine? That’s it’s actually a good thing in some respects?
Find out in this episode how food is intrinsically linked to food, the different emotional reasons why we might eat, why it’s ok to be an emotional eater, and how you can evaluate whether it is food you need, or something else entirely.

As with hunger, fullness feels different to each person. Right now, if you’ve spent years dieting, you may not know what that feels like for you.
In this episode I’m going to explain how fullness might feel in your body, and talk about the reasons why you might be a little out of touch with your fullness signals.

Satisfaction isn’t just about eating so that you are full. There is sensory satisfaction to be had, and emotional satisfaction, and they are just as important as the feeling of fullness.
When you understand the power of being satisfied when you eat, you can reduce your cravings and your binges.
In this episode I will help you to understand that, and give you some tips on how to be more satisfied when you eat.

Welcome to my intuitive eating back to basics series. Each day for 10 days I'll release a new episode, guiding you through one of the intuitive eating principles. I’ll explain what it means, why it is important, and how it applies in real life.
To become an intuitive eater we first have to totally reject diet culture. If you still have the idea that you want to diet in the back of your head you can’t truly lean into intuitive eating.
Diet culture is all those messages around us that tell us we’re not good enough as we are. You might be surprised when you start to look into it just how much diet culture messaging is around us, being soaked up by our subconscious.
Today I’m going to help you to spot sneaky diet culture, and start to reject it.

Welcome to my Intuitive Eating Back to Basics series, inspired by a podcast listener.
I heard that you need some easy to digest explanations of the 10 principles of intuitive eating. A way to understand them, without having to read the whole intuitive eating book, or wade through the internet to find what you need.
And so, the intuitive eating back to basics series was born!
Each day for 10 days I'll release a new episode, guiding you through one of the intuitive eating principles. I’ll explain what it means, why it is important, and how it applies in real life.
I'm really excited to see what this next 10 days or so brings you, and how differently you feel about the intuitive eating principles come the end of it. Do keep in touch and let me know your thoughts.
So let’s get into it, starting with an understanding of what the principles of intuitive eating are.
Intuitive eating says there should be no rules, so it can be confusing to see that there are 10 principles of intuitive eating. If they aren’t rules, then what are they?
Let me explain…

At this time of recording, I'm not well. You ever notice how your body gives you a heads up when something's not quite right? Maybe your appetite changes, and you're just not feeling your usual snacks. It's like your body's way of saying, "Hey, something's up, watch out!"
So this got me thinking about intuitive eating even when we're sick. I mean, who would have thought being unwell could inspire a podcast episode? So thank you universe for making me feel unwell so that I am inspired to talk to you about the following:
✨ How can we practice intuitive eating when we're feeling unwell?
✨ What signals do our bodies give us when sickness is on the way?
✨ Should you worry about what you’re eating? What are some easy foods to consider when unwell?
✨ Why is it important to trust our bodies’ cues and not worry about diet when we’re sick?
Remember, rest, nourish, and take care of yourself. And if you're tuning in because you're under the weather, get well soon!
If you’d like some help understanding what your body tells you and becoming an intuitive eater, check out my coaching options. Link's in the notes. Book a free discovery call, and let's chat.

Surprise!! I have a bonus episode for you!
I received a comment on an instagram post asking me how I was going to prioritise such a big list of intentions for the year (listen to the last episode and all will become clear).
What a great question. But the more I thought about it, and the more I tried to write a response, the bigger an essay it became. So here I am, recording a bonus episode for you.
I’m talking about how I’m going to tackle that (what I now realise is a) very large list of intentions for the year. Want to know what my system is? You’ll have to listen and find out.

Happy new year to you. I don’t set goals for the year, and I’m not a fan of the ‘new year, new me’ thinking, but I’m still starting my new year as I mean to go on - with some intentions for how I want to approach this year, and life in general, moving forward.
This week I’m giving you a very honest insight into my intentions for the year, and how I intend to approach the different aspects of my life.
I’m talking about
⭐ My word of the year
⭐ My health, both physical and mental
⭐ My eating habits and how I’ve let my intuitive eating slip
⭐ The space around me
⭐ My energy, and how many spoons I’ve got
⭐ My time, and where I will and will not give it
⭐ People and relationships, who I’m nurturing and who I’m letting go of
⭐ Money
⭐ My business, and what I will and will not offer any more
⭐ Social media, and where I will and will not be now
⭐ Personal development
Have a listen and then tell me, do you resonate with them?

This week, I’m sharing stories of the quirky, heartwarming, and sometimes hilarious food memories I grew up with. From funny Christmas shopping habits to those breakfasts, we're reminiscing it all. Let's talk about:
✨ Favourite childhood meals! What meal always brought you back to your childhood when you tasted it?
✨ Can you remember sneaky snack moments from your childhood?

So, grab some snacks, tune in, and join me as we travel back in time to those cherished childhood moments. You'll laugh, you'll reminisce, and you might even discover a newfound appreciation for that one dish you swore you'd never touch as a kid.
PS. I'm doing a month of messages on Instagram and my Facebook Group to help you navigate the Christmas season, including all the festive food and body messages you might get. From how you feel about getting dressed up for Christmas parties, how you should or shouldn’t eat, your body, how you look, and how you feel at Christmas, that sort of thing.
If that's worrying you a little, this might help you feel better about yourself this time of year. So come and join the group, or follow me on Instagram.
Now, it's time to put up my twinky decorations and decorate the tree. Have a cozy, lovely, warm rest of your day!

Join in, and I'll share tips on dealing with it. Not just why we eat more on holiday but how to manage it. We'll explore the beauty of all-inclusive and where intuitive eating comes into play.
What's in store for next week? I'll be chatting with Gwenne Dickson, and trust me, it's unlike any conversation we've had before. You're going to love her.

What are the different levels of fat? It can be hard to understand what someone means when they say "fat" because everyone has their version. You have probably heard terms like "straight-sized", "plus-sized," "small fat," "infinifat," and so on — or "Fategories."
Oh, wait. "Fategories"? Is there such a thing? You might wonder, "Why do we need these terms?"
In this episode, we will dive into that based on Linda's work from Fluffy Kitten Party. Let's talk about the diverse experiences of each level, such as weight stigma, criticisms, sizes, accessibility, and more.
Tune in, and let's have a bit of understanding and awareness about the different levels of fat and the appropriate terms to use — words that feel right for you.
I will put the link below because there is way more in this blog post that Linda has written.
Also, we'll touch on a term you might find interesting; "Death Fat," by Leslie Kinzel in 2008, where she talks about her experience of being morbidly fat on the BMI scale. Please stick with me because there's more to that. Check out Lesley's blog post below for the full story behind this term.

Diet talk. It's become a regular part of our conversations, hasn't it? When you find yourself in a discussion about body weight, exercise, or even your eating habits…and the list goes on. It's something most of us encounter, often without even realizing it.
This week, let's break down what diet talk exactly means and how it affects us and those we talk to. I'll share some phrases of what you can say instead and tips on responding to unsolicited comments when you're on the receiving end.
Remember, you don't have to go about it alone. Join me as I guide you on how to officially ditch that for yourself and confidently respond to such conversations.
Also, if you've got any thoughts or stories to share on this topic, please feel free to drop me a voice memo or message - I'd love to hear from you!

Last week, I went to an all-you-can-eat buffet with friends and tried various cuisines. I bet some of you have tried that too, right? — But have you ever wondered how to tell when you've eaten enough? How much is too much? Is it wrong to keep eating even after feeling full?
These are all valid questions, and I'll help you find answers to them in this week's episode. I'll talk about how I got a real-life experience from it and how to be intuitively satisfied with being comfortably full.
Oh, by the way, I have some fantastic guests coming up in the next few episodes on Human Design and how to use it to determine your eating habits and the experiences of an ex-Slimming World consultant. I can't wait!
Enjoy this episode, and I will speak to you again next week!

Have you ever blamed your mum for your dieting?
Remember when you were told when to eat, not to snack, and not to waste food? And what about family, school, and media influencing your mom's thoughts on body image? Or maybe food was her way of showing love?
This week, let's talk about why your mum's impact on your diet might not be what you've thought. We'll explore how these factors shaped her views on food and why pointing fingers at her isn't the answer. Plus, I'll share some simple ways to free yourself from old beliefs that might be holding you back. Let me tell you why you should let that blame go.
Come on in, and let's rewrite the story together. Join me as we uncover the reasons behind it all and guide you to a better relationship with food and your body.

I've been watching many TV shows lately, and it got me thinking about how body sizes are portrayed in movies and their impact on us. It's a mixed bag - some films have positive representations, but unfortunately, many negative stereotypes.
Have you seen Monica from Friends or Fat Amy from Pitch Perfect? How about Miss Piggy from The Muppets or Ray from My Mad Fat Diary?
Let's chat about how these characters are portrayed, how media can affect how we view our bodies, and how we can shift our perspective to embrace body positivity. I'm talking about:

You've probably heard about intuitive eating before but might not be entirely sure what it means. I've been over the moon for two years talking about it, but I've never done an episode that explains what intuitive eating is! Have you ever wondered what it is and how it works? This week, we will break it down and discuss its principles, so you can better understand how it works.
But that's not all! I'll be sharing with you my secret Cinemas Greece experience. It was a lot of fun, and I can't wait to share it with you.
Trust me, by the end of this episode; you'll better understand intuitive eating — how to start eating more freely and love yourself as you are.

Have you ever read the serving size on a food packet and wondered whether it was realistic? Well, you're not alone. It can be confusing and inconsistent, making us feel dissatisfied about food.
This week is about how ridiculous food portion sizes are and how our satisfaction and hunger levels guide us more than what the packets say a portion is.
Of course, I'll talk about intuitive eating, which helps us listen to our bodies and guides us to the suitable portion sizes and nutrients we need. You may be surprised that focusing on how we feel after eating is better than counting every bite!

Do you ever find yourself mindlessly snacking or reaching for food without even realizing it? Many of us eat on autopilot, which means we eat without being fully aware of what we're doing or why we're doing it. But the question is, are we eating because we are hungry, or is it our mind that's driving us to eat?
In this episode, I will talk about the reasoning behind mindless eating, give some simple tips to be more mindful of your food choices, and discuss how intuitive eating can shift your relationship with food and your body.

Why do people drink alcohol? To celebrate? To escape reality? Or to feel something else? Why do we turn to alcohol as a means to destress? And have you ever noticed you feel confident when you're drunk?
When you drink, the dopamine hit from alcohol becomes addictive, and the brain relies on it to feel good, leading to a cycle of dependence. In short, you feel good when you're drunk.
However, it is essential to note that alcohol only provides temporary confidence. It impairs decision-making and can have adverse effects on the brain and body.
But without alcohol, how can we gain confidence without relying on it? How can one improve self-acceptance and mindset?
In this week's episode, I'm very excited to welcome our special guest — Carol Urry. She is an alcohol control coach specializing in working with mums of teenagers and young adults. She has over a decade of personal experience and understands the challenges and pressures that can lead to relying on alcohol to destress and relax at the end of the day.
We will discuss everything there is to know about the effects of alcohol on your health and family, address the emotional reasons for alcohol use, and provide tips on how to embody confidence from within without relying on alcohol.

When you first start a diet, what are your goals? Weight loss mainly? To be thinner? To wear smaller clothes sizes? To become healthier? To try to fit in better? Whatever the goals were, I believe that ultimately what you are looking for is to be more confident.
However, when you look a little more closely you see that everything you do at a diet club slowly chips away at your confidence, rather than building you up.
I’m talking about the ways that they do that in this week’s episode. I’m looking at:

Leaving a diet club can feel daunting, especially if you've relied on it for support and accountability in the past. It's understandable to feel hesitant about breaking away from your group.
The diet club may have provided a sense of belonging and a support system that you've come to rely on. However, it's essential to recognize that true support should uplift and empower you, rather than perpetuating harmful dieting behaviours, which is exactly what a diet club does.

It's the podcast's second birthday so I thought this week we would have a bit of fun.
I had a thought - imagine how I would want to behave if I joined a diet club meeting today! I'd want to be correcting the consultant, I'd have to give all the members an 'I'm sorry' hug as they queued for the scales, I'd have to keep telling members that they don't have to have the horrible substitution foods that they're settling for. What would you do if you came with me?

It's in the news today and it's been on my Facebook feed this week. People are going to Turkey for gastric sleeves, and some of these procedures are going better than others!
But why are they going abroad for gastric surgery? Why not stay home and have it on the NHS if they're going to have it?
What even is the problem with gastric surgery anyway? Why is it so bad?
I'm going to talk about the realities of having this major surgery. You deserve to be fully informed.
Here are a couple of links to information that I have used to put together this episode, including some information that I didn't even have time to squeeze in to the episode:
If you would like to look at how I can help you to find an alternative to having this life changing surgery please reach out. All the links are below. I'd love to help you.
I must stress, I am not a medical practitioner and I do not have lived experience with gastric surgery. I have my own research in order to talk to you, but ultimately these are my opinions. Please do your own research on this topic.

Great question asked by the lovely Jan this week. In this week's episode I'm giving you some questions that will help you to determine which one it could be for you, and then giving you some tips on how to turn it round so that you can be an intuitive eater again.

Body checking is the habit (because it is a habit) of thinking about your body in usually every day situations, and then considering whether or not it is ok. There are lots and lots of different ways of doing this and I'd like to talk about a few of them. Are you body checking without even realising?
Here's are the activity steps that I describe more fully in the episode:
Day 1: Just notice. Make some notes if you like.
Day 2: Consider your surroundings and what's happening at that time.
Day 3: Ask yourself these 3 questions:
Finally, stop and reframe.

When we are dieting we have lots of ways to measure how 'well' we are doing, such as weight loss, inch loss, clothes sizes changing. When we stop dieting and start intuitive eating we lose those measures - which is a good thing! However, as humans we are driven by goals and success, so how do we still measure our progress as an intuitive eater? How do you know you're on the right path? How do you know you're doing it 'properly'? In this episode I'm giving you 10 ways that you can know you're doing a good job of it.
In this episode I also talk about a giveaway I'm running. Here's the link: https://terripugh.xyz/giveaway

We've all heard of the likes of Herbalife and Cambridge 1:1 Diet , where you buy, eat, sleep and live their products, in search of the 'benefits' and weight loss they are saying you get from them. Their consultants rely on product sales and a team below them in order to make money.
But did you also know that companies such as Weight Watchers (now WW) and Slimming World are also MLMs (multi level marketing companies)? Possibly not, because they cover their tracks well and are shady and sneaky. Let me enlighten you.....

Intuitive Eating tells us we should pay attention to our hunger and fullness signals, and decide what we want to eat based on what we truly desire at the time. If this is the case, how can we possibly plan ahead and pre-prepare meals and still eat intuitively? It is possible, and in this episode I'll explain how.

Intuitive Eating is often thought to be the hunger and fullness diet. It is much more nuanced than that though. Yes, we should think about hunger levels when deciding whether to eat or not, but sometimes you need to eat when you're not hungry, in order to prevent more disordered eating later in the day. In this episode I'm explaining why it's ok to eat when you are not hungry, what practical hunger is, why it can be helpful, and how to decide what you should eat.

Intuitive eating asks us to think about what we want to eat and then honour that, but what if you don't know what you want to eat? What if we know what we don't want to eat but have no idea what we do want? I have tips to help you figure it out.

This week I had a conversation with Aisling Daly, primarily about blood pressure and cholesterol? We looked at how being in a bigger body affects them both, and what you can do in your diet to help rather than just prescribing weight loss.
Aisling is a Registered Nutritionist with the AfN, specialising in Public Health Nutrition. She has a BSc in Human Nutrition and an MSc in Nutrition for Global Health, and is currently completing her PhD focussing on adolescent nutrition and eating behaviours. She also lectures in nutrition and works one to one with clients. This breadth of experience gives her a wide understanding of the importance of nutrition for health along with the challenges individuals face in understanding and applying public health guidance to their own individual situation. She has recently expanded her knowledge in the anti-diet approach, is HAES-aligned and applies intuitive eating into her practice, helping people improve their relationship with food and their body.

Junk food, urgh, I hate that term. Junk implies that it's rubbish. Have you stopped to think though that all food, when broken down, has plenty of nutrients that our bodies can use? I'll explain why that is, give you some examples, and encourage you to use the term 'play food' instead of 'junk food'.
And yes, I've even managed to sneak in a reference to Friends. Remember when Joey tried to say he was "sorry"........?

We quit a diet and say we're not dieting any more, but are we really still dieting?
We start a new plan, maybe one that says you can eat whatever you want with no restrictions, so that's not a diet...... or is it? This week I'm talking about how if there are still restrictions, rules and limits to your plan it's still a diet, and how you may think you've quit your diet but your behaviour says you're still very much in a diet mentality.
I'm having far too much fun with the Family Fortunes buzzer sound, thanking my first Buy Me A Coffee supporter, talking about what's coming up in the group coaching sessions in November, and telling you how I skipped lunch and didn't die! I know, crazy right?
Happy Halloween everyone!

A lot of people ask if they will gain weight when they start Intuitive Eating. It's almost an impossible question to answer because everyone is different, but there are reasons why you might put on weight. Those reasons aren't bad, weight gain isn't bad, and weight gain isn't even inevitable. This week I'm talking about all of this.
Also, find out what popped up unexpectedly on my Facebook memories that caught me off guard, what I thought of my recent photoshoot, and a little mention of Halloween since it's next week.

What I Eat In A Day posts are everywhere at the moment. Influencers telling you what they eat in a day may not be helpful though. This week I'm talking about what influencers are showing you, what they're not showing you, and how I use their posts to inspire my meals. I'm also discussing how it can be difficult to incorporate their suggested meals into your day, and how so many of these food suggestions just don't suit you. I had pizza for breakfast too - that wasn't inspired by an influencer!

Do you live in a house or a home? No, I’m not talking about the building you are in, but the body you are in. Have you settled into it and made it yours, or are you seeing it as a pit stop, constantly trying to change it, and as somewhere to wait while you get the new one ready?
I am talking more about the things we don't do when we are plus-size, have yet another rant about clothes shops, give you a message from a listener whose husband takes the photos of models and superstars, and talk about going out partying with friends when you feel like the fat one of the group.
Thanks also to Maddie Deakin for the inspiration for the house or home analogy this week. It's stuck with me for a long time!

Slimming clubs are essentially MLM businesses, that's multi level marketing. So people at the top earn money from the people in their chain below and from their sales. The diet consultants are being rewarded with cars, holidays, fancy awards nights, ego massaging. This is where your membership fee is going. What it's not paying for...... any kind of consideration of your health.

Even living a body positive life I still have days where things will make me doubt myself or question my body. This week I am talking about a few of those situations where, even though I am body positive and happy with my Intuitive Eating journey, I still wish things were different. Clothes shopping, travelling, and looking at photos are all times where I say "I'm body positive but......".

The BMI scale has been used for a long time to determine health by many medical professionals. It categorises people into weight categories and suggests whether you will be healthy or not based on that. This week I explain why the BMI scale is problematic, what it was originally created for, and why it's not an appropriate measurement of health.

We want to lose weight, and we want to be thinner, but why? This week I'm delving into why you think you want to lose weight and why you actually really want to lose weight. Spoiler alert - we rarely want to lose weight for ourselves.

This week I had a thought - people say that dieting has helped them to come off medication, BUT has it helped them learn how to eat more healthily? I look at shakes diets, calorie counting, macro counting, group slimming clubs, and Noom, and give my opinion on whether or not they help people learn how to eat more healthily.
I also tell you about the best lunch yet, and this week I had a real personal win when I went to a wedding reception.
This week's listener question is "why is it easier to eat more healthily in summer?". Great question. There's more to it than you think.

How many times have you thought you had no willpower and asked yourself why you can't 'just do it' when it comes to dieting. Why can't you have as much willpower as everyone else in your diet club? Why haven't you got enough willpower to stop yourself eating the food in the cupboard?
'I have good intentions but don't have enough willpower to eat properly. How can I improve my willpower?' was my listener question for this week. It's so big that I made the answer the whole podcast episode.

Social media can be a fabulous, supportive place to be, or it can be a really negative place to be. After taking some criticism for a video that I posted on tiktok I'm talking about what we assume of people by looking at them, what our weight on the scales, our diet, our genes, and calorie counting all really mean for our health. I'm also talking about a video that I saw on social media that really pulled at my heartstrings.
This week I'm answering a listener question - what's the difference between mindful eating and intuitive eating, or are they the same?

Do you exercise and love it, or struggle to find the will to get up and do it?
Do you feel excited to do the activity, or feel fear and anxiety?
Do you exercise somewhere you love and feel safe, or somewhere you feel you are constantly being watched?
Do you do it because you want to, or because you feel you should?
All too often people moan about dragging themselves out for a run, or to the gym, or to a class that they detest, and say they have to do it because they had something to eat earlier that they feel they now need to burn off. Exercise is not a punishment and you never have to earn food or burn calories.
Let's find a way to enjoy movement, not kill ourselves exercising.

Just because I'm an intuitive eater and an Intuitive Eating counsellor, it doesn't mean I can't miss the old me. I do miss skinny me, but somehow I'm so much happier now. Here I talk about how it feels, what I miss about being smaller, but what I have and haven't got in my life now that I have made peace with food and my body.

This week I had a few food revelations. I ordered a jacket potato and I enjoyed it, I found a new love for gnocchi, and my love of muesli is well and truly over. Plus, what's the deal with 'what I eat in a day' and meal plan social media posts?

This week Shannon Western (of Shannon Western Nutrition) joins me to talk about endometriosis. We talk about what endometriosis is, whether weight loss can help it (hint, not really!), how Shannon approaches it in her clinic, how nutrition can help endometriosis, and whether the endo diets online can help or not.
Shannon is a Registered Associate Nutritionist who offers nutrition counselling for disordered eating and women's health conditions. She offers a compassionate, person-centered approach that allows people to explore their eating behaviour and thoughts around food and their body. Shannon offers a Non-Diet and HAES approach to health.
Here is a great article that Shannon has written on endometriosis if you want to know more: https://www.healthnutritionist.co.uk/post/stop-the-endo-belly-our-nutritionist-gives-4-tips-and-4-myths-to-avoid

In this episode I'm chatting with Shaina Gadow. Shaina is a Wild Woman Activator and healer, helping women to shed perfectionism, self-sacrifice, self-doubt, and limiting beliefs, so they can awaken to their own magnificence, embrace their authentic truth, and be guided by their own sacred heart and intuition.
It is her soul mission for all women to remember the truth of who they really are and fully embody the version of themselves who is confident, joyful, empowered, free, and wildly self-loving.
We're talking about Shaina's journey to truly loving herself, how your childhood can shape your body confidence, how friendships and relationships change as you change, and scraping the surface to do the deeper work. We also talk about that journey to loving yourself, tackling the inner critic, and how journaling, gratitude and a good morning routine can have a positive impact on your life.
Enjoy!

Are you making food too exciting? And by that, I mean, Are you putting foods up onto a pedestal so that they are the most exciting things in the world? Are you scared to keep those foods in the cupboards because you feel like you will lose control and eat and eat until it's gone? The key is actually to have LOADS of that food around you. Sounds crazy, but it's true. In this episode, I'm talking about habituation and how it helps to give you back that control.
Also, find out why I am just like Smithy from Gavin and Stacey, and why I've changed my name.

I have heard several comments lately about people opening their mouths and saying whatever they want about a person's body, without considering their feelings. In this episode I'm looking at typical things people say to complement people in bigger bodies that aren't really compliments, what words you can use to describe a fat person (for example are words like fat and obesity ok to use?), how we can start changing the verbal environments we are in, and what we can say to compliment people without referring to their body.

Let's talk about all the food at the office, such as the birthday buffets, the celebratory cakes, and how much guilt can come from enjoying them. Enjoy a little rant about my clothes shopping trip, and this week the great food debate is asking what people like to eat that other people find odd.
