The Relentless Boymom Podcast: Recent Episodes

Adrianne Taylor

You don’t have to be a Boymom to be here, you just have to be Relentless.ALL moms are welcome. Are you a mom who is giving it her all, but still feeling like a failure.A mom who is feeling burnt out, and wondering how you got here.A mom who desperately desires the best for her kids, but is finding it’s to the detriment of her own time and self care.Do you find yourself craving adult interaction, but you feel too guilty leaving to do something for you? I’ve been there, and honestly, I still find myself there at times. I’m actually working my way back from loneliness, and I’d love to walk alongside you. Whether you have one child or 10, this is the place for you. As I navigate having a son getting married while homeschooling a middle schooler, I want to share my life with you. I will to share what I learned as a new mom, and all the things I thought mattered so much back then. I will share what I am learning now as I navigate old and new seasons of life. I will share how important prayer is, and I will teach you how to pray over your husband and kids . . . And yourself!Besides praying daily for my boys, teaching them what God says about masculinity is so important to me. I don’t want my boys learning from tv or movies what it means to be masculine. I am continually searching God’s Word for stories and verses to share with my boys on what GOD says about being a man. No, they don’t have to be the star quarterback, but they do have to have courage and integrity. Some of the stories I share will make you laugh, all of them will make you think. Each episode will be a piece of my heart to encourage you, whether it be me and my “gift of gab”, or a friend sharing her story. All of it is with you in mind. All of it is to encourage you that YOU are one fantastic mama and YOU are doing an amazing job. I am so proud of you. I love you, my dear friend. Now let’s grow together! Even if you’ve “failed” in the past, it is NEVER too late. Just remember . . . You don’t have to be a Boymom to be here - You just have to be Relentless 😁💙

I haven’t been very consistent in podcasting this year because as I’ve wanted this podcast to help other mom’s, I haven’t felt worthy enough to share anything. I’ve been struggling . . . BIG TIME. How can I encourage you when I see my boys faces in my head, looking at me and saying I am the worst. I couldn’t do it. I couldn’t hit record. I had so much to say but no words would come out. I cried myself to sleep. I had a constant ache in my belly. I put on a happy face because that’s what we do, but inside I was crumbling.

Am I a bad mom? probably sometimes. Were these thoughts from God? Not a one of them. I had allowed myself to sink into the lies and I believed every single one of them. If I continued on this way, the enemy would win. He wants us to feel like a failure. He wants us to quit. He wants us to throw in the towel, pretend everything is ok, while shutting down with our kids because “what’s the point?”

No matter if we’ve had a bad day or not - God placed us here on purpose and He does not make one single mistake. Today I finally listened to His gentle words and I hit record. I share my heart. It sucks. I don’t ever want to be a failure. I want to encourage you, yes, but in this episode I find freedom. Freedom from the burden of failure and unworthiness I have been carrying for a while. This whole year, in fact. I cry. I have a breakdown. I have a breakthrough.

I pray this encourages you to stop listening to the lies too. You can’t do it alone. You need God’s help. You need mom friends for encouragement. You CAN do this. Don’t throw in the towel. Don’t stop being the amazing mom you are - bad days and all - YOU ROCK. Stay Relentless friend.

Oh the holiday’s and the expectations of mothers. It’s a for real thing and a thing that often leads to tears, guilt, and all the negative things. Why should we lower them this holiday season? How can we? What does lowering our expectations even mean?

Today is a quick little reminder for the mom feeling burnt out with high expectations. You can do this. I’ve been there and often find myself heading there again. It’s taken years of practice to work on stopping those tears and lowering those expectations.

I am praying over you this holiday season. I am praying that you find joy in the chaos and in those little moments.

The other day when the boys and I were on a walk, James asked me, “how do I respond if someone asks me if I’m anti LGBTQ?I hate that my boys are even having to think about questions like this, but unfortunately it’s how things are now. Sometimes I wish we could go back to when I was younger. Didn’t the times seem more simpler then? Maybe it was just me, I don’t know, but the conversations I’m having to have with my boys breaks my heart.

That’s one of the reasons I like our daily walks without our phones. It gives the boys the opportunity to ask questions or share thoughts they may not otherwise have the bravery to ask. It’s difficult, yes, but we have got to be creating a space for our kids to talk to us. We have got to be covering them in prayer. The enemy wants to divide, confuse, and destroy our families, our relationships, and our bonds. We can’t let him. God is always with us and guiding us. Don’t lose hope.

Our first returning guest on The Relentless Boymom Podcast, and she brings such wisdom and encouragement today! In a world where sexualization has become something you can just see on your phone, how do we talk to our kids about sex, and at what age is appropriate?

I know for me, it can be a bit daunting knowing the how and when’s of the “sex talk” but now more than ever we have got to be vigilant with our children and we have got to be the ones sending a clear message of what sex is, how God created it to be, and how using it in the wrong way can be harmful . . . Because friend, if YOU DON’T, someone else WILL!! And that is scary.

Talking about sex with your kids doesn’t have to be the scary part though. Amanda Ammons of the Passion Connected Podcast shares some helpful tips and some amazing bits of wisdom that can take the guesswork and fear out of this. No matter what ages your kids are, this is an amazing episode of hope and encouragement. Make sure you check out Amanda’s podcast and social media and share this episode with a friend to give them some encouragement as well!

James joins me today to discuss a challenge we’ve created for you and your son to do together over the next 60 days. As we head into probably one of the most crazy and stressful seasons of the year, we want to face it with strength. We want to spend time together each day, mother and son, creating memories and taking care of our bodies. So we created this challenge (James actually renames it an Opportunity during our episode and I like that so much better!) We want to make sure we are moving every day. We want to make sure we are fueling our bodies for energy every day. We want to make sure we are feeding our minds with positivity each day . . . And we want to do it together. As he gets older, I’ve been realizing that our day to day interactions, will soon become less and less.

Let’s take the next 60 days to spend time together and to be healthy. We don’t want to wait until the New Year. We don’t want to say I’ll start some day. We want that “some day” to be now. Won’t you join us? We’d love the accountability as we are aware that there will be days we won’t feel like doing it all . . . We need you!

Hop on over to my social media and take a screenshot of the graphic.
Feel free to email me or message me and I’ll send it right over.
Tag me each day you and your son complete your tasks for the day.
Get going on creating those healthy habits!
We’re in this together!!

Here’s to the next 60 Days to be Ahead of the Rest!

Being a mom of older kids is so tough and nothing that I felt prepared for at all. We will always be mom, of course, but our role suddenly changes and we’re left wondering what exactly is our place. We’re not their number go-to. We’re not making their decisions for them and most of the time, we’re not even a part of their decision making at all!

So what do we do?! What do we do when our hearts are breaking and we’re navigating a whole new phase?

I don’t have all the answers as I’m in the thick of this new phase as well, but from all I’m learning lately, I have a few things to share. In the midst of that, I share a story of how one of my boys ate their own poop, and how sometimes I’d rather be back in that stage where I knew I was needed. But here we are, and we can do this.

I share the following song and highly recommend you give it a listen for encouragement:
https://youtu.be/ihrUIPfvTh8

I’d love to know any verses that bring you comfort and hope.
Share any songs that fill you with peace and encouragement.
Let’s start filling our minds with truth instead of confusion and pain.
Love you.

I’m not gonna lie - this was tough to listen to. I don’t know about you, but I give 1000% to being a mom, and I STILL feel like a failure. Bad things still happen in my life to bring me down, to make me question my worth. It’s been a rough year. There have been many ups and downs and many days that I cry out to God and tell Him, “I just can’t DO this anymore!”

When I asked Angie Baughman if I could use the audio from my interview on her podcast, she was so gracious and sent it right over. I started listening to it thinking, “this is going to be great!” And then I really started to listen and her words hit me like a ton of bricks. Listening to myself talk about one of the toughest times in my life immediately brought the feelings back.

And then I thought of you. I pray that you are encouraged today. I pray that you know you are doing a great job. Even when others tell you how awful you are (even if that’s your kids!) Even when bad things happen and you feel you can’t take one more step. Even when you are feeling like the worst mom and woman ever - I pray you find peace, healing, and your worth in Christ. I pray this episode blesses your life as it has done mine, many times over.

Today’s episode is probably going to lead us to many other episodes, but let’s start with today’s topic of grief. My guest, Jana, faced 5 1/2 years of infertility just one year intro her marriage and it shook her to her core (as it would ALL of us).

I recommend grabbing some pen and paper because Jana shares so much wisdom on how we can walk alongside others during their grief, and also how we should be helping ourselves. Going through the stages of grief is okay! And let’s be encouraged that there are going to be situations that come up and trigger our past hurts that can bring our pain right back to the forefront of  our minds (that was a HUGE encouragement to me!) So often we feel we should “be over” something, but it’s our pain and trauma and there is no time limit on our healing or triggers.

I am so thankful for today’s guest and her willingness to share openly with us. I pray you are encouraged in your life. I pray you know you aren’t alone or crazy in your grief. I pray you find some takeaways on how to walk through grief you may be experiencing right now. I pray you know how to walk alongside others.

You are doing an amazing job.
Don’t forget that. Don’t doubt that.

This is an episode I have been wanting to do for quite some time. I say I’ve been wanting to have Jake on as a guest, but I’ve also been putting it off because I knew I would have to be honest about some of my failures as a mom.

Today my son Jake and I share about a dark time in his life, and a dark time for our relationship. I appreciate his candidness as he shares what he was feeling during that time and what has happened since then.

I highly recommend this episode if you have a son or daughter struggling with anxiety, depression, wanting to stay in their room all the time, or if they seem they are in a dark place in their life as well. Jake offers us some helpful tips and tools in what our kids need from us. I actually realized some things I needed to readdress and work on in my own life.

I pray this episode encourages you as it encouraged me. We are our own worst critics and while we need to continue to grow and get better, we also need to hear we are doing a great job from time to time. You are doing a GREAT job.

We would love to hear your thoughts on today’s episode. Reach out via email adriannejtaylor@yahoo.com or on any of my social media’s.

She is also the host of the Raising Lions Podcast:
https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/raising-lions/id1612521341

We were able to connect and have the best conversation around toxic masculinity and what it’s doing to our sons and this generation. We don’t have a conversation around this, we get to learn from Christie and hear some tips on how we can talk to our sons.

These conversations are not easy . . . But they ARE vital and important.
These are not political conversations, they are spiritual warfare conversations.
We have GOT to be praying for our kids.
We have GOT to be filling their minds with God’s Word.
We have GOT to be fighting for them.
Be involved in their schools, what they see, what they hear, who their friends are, etc.
Are you fighting for your kids?

We pray that today’s conversation encourages you, gives you ways to talk to your kids, and gets you thinking.
We’d love to know your thoughts on what we talk about today.
We’d love to know if you have any other questions as well.
Feel free to reach out to both of us!

Today’s episode may be a great one to listen to with your teenage son or daughter. I gave James a brief synopsis of what I wanted to chat about and he ran with it sharing some thoughts that I never knew! What our kids are going through is real. What the enemy is doing to try and confuse and destroy our children is real. What they are seeing, hearing and facing is real and we have GOT to be in the game with them. Having open conversations is a MUST. Talking about sex, no matter how uncomfortable, is VITAL.

Listen in as James shares some of his thoughts and feelings and start a conversation with your kid. Ask them if they agree with him and why or why not. We would love to know! Share your thoughts and conversations with us through any of my social media platforms or email me at adriannejtaylor@yahoo.com.

You are doing one heck of a job, mama!

So many conversations with you lead to the same outcomes . . . We are burnt out and feeling so guilty we aren’t doing even more.  We are so busy giving and giving and giving, that we run ourselves down and we find ourselves snapping at our kids and wondering how we even got to this point.

Another topic I’ve recently started grappling with is the issue of pain from the past. We feel we’ve worked through some past hurts, only to be blindsided one day and realize there’s still a bunch of pain. I found myself at the point of breaking and haven’t cried that hard in years. It hurt so bad in the moment, but actually felt good to get it all out again.

I’d love to know your thoughts on these topics and how you’ve been dealing with them . . . Or not? Reach out to me! Adriannejtaylor@yahoo.com

I’m proud of you.
I love you so much.
I’m glad you’re here with me.
Facing all of this is so much easier with you!

Let’s hop right in to Season 3 with something that we may have been ignoring for a while, but is being thrown in our faces on a daily basis. What used to be a simple family doctor visit, has now turned into an indoctrination camp. Don’t believe me? Have you taken a 12 or 13 year old to a doctors visit recently? What were some of the paperwork handed to your CHILD? What were some of the questions being asked to your CHILD?

The enemy HATES love, the family, and you as a mom fighting for your kids. So what can we do? Is it a lost cause? HECK NO! We cannot give up!

Tune in today as I share my latest experience at a doctors office we will no longer be seeing. Open your eyes to what is going on right in front of your face and get motivated to protect and fight for your kids even more!

You’re a GREAT mom. You’re a STRONG mom. Your kids need you fighting for them. The enemy hates them and you, but God loves you and your kids way more than satan could ever hate them. Let’s get to work!

Oh my goodness, I have MISSED you so much! I know I kind of left you hanging at the end of Season Two, but I promise Season Three is more than going to make up for it! I have so many amazing things lined up for you this season . . . Although I DO have to warn you, some content may not be your favorite. I promise though, each week and topic will get you thinking, researching, and feeling stronger, braver and more empowered.

This season of The Relentless Boymom isn’t for the weak, and I am excited about that. I’m excited for conversations. I’m excited for different points of view. I’m excited to see us all grow. We may not see eye to eye on every topic presented, and that’s ok! We aren’t machines all created the same. We’re people with thoughts and feelings, and conversations are good! There may be some topics that will be my hill to die on, while others may be yours. This is going to be a safe conversation space and I CANNOT WAIT!!!!!

I WOULD love to know some topics you may be struggling with. What are some things you are personally working on. What are some things you need encouragement with in regards to your kids? Shoot me a message on any of my social media’s or an email! I am up for it all!

I am so excited you are here and know it’s going to be an amazing season of growth for us both.
Let’s get going!!

Love you tons,
Adrianne 💙💙💙💙💙

I couldn’t sleep last night, so what better use of my time than to get up and chat with you.
I pray this blesses your Loire and let’s you know how loved and important you are. Not on just Mother’s Day . . . But every day.
Love you friend.

The days when we cuddle and soothe a tiny baby seem to last forever while flying by in an instant. Then all of a sudden we’re saying goodbye and the time with our kids wasn’t long enough. It never is, is it? Staying up all night with a sick kid lasts forever, but the hugs from chubby little hands don’t.

Today I get a little emotional as I share some of the moments that have stood out in my mind, of when I have had to take a step back in my boys lives. These moments still make me cry . . . So bear with me.

Also bear with me as Cash walks in and I have to pause my crying haha.
It stinks being a mom sometimes. It flies by too fast. One day they’re crawling into bed with us in the middle of the night and then all of a sudden we’re taking a step back and letting them navigate their own way.

Does it mean we’re always stepping back? Nope. Tune in and find out some steps we can take forward as we’re also stepping back.

Love you.

It’s been a rough few weeks. I know you’ve been feeling it too. There are so many burdens to carry and so many fears to overcome. We have houses to clean and kids to care for and husbands to encourage. The weight of the world is heavy.  And that’s when the lies of the enemy are working the hardest. He is everywhere. He is prowling around waiting to pounce. He knows just when to get us and he knows just what lies we’ll believe.

So what are some of the lies that we believe?
What are some ways we can combat them?
Is there a way?
YES!!!
How?
Listen to today’s episode and get some major encouragement for fighting against the lies of the enemy.
Love you my dear friend. I know you are carrying a lot. You are stronger than you think and braver than you believe. You got this.

Last week I shared some of my thoughts on how I feel when it seems like God isn’t answering prayers. This week I go into more detail. Why do we need more detail? Well, because life is hard. Life knocks us down. People let us down, hurt us, and turn their backs. In spending time with a few different friends this week, I came to the same conclusion . . .  we’re all hurting, and we’re all hiding it. Why?
Because as “Christians” we are supposed to surrender everything to God and trust Him with every part of our lives. In theory that sounds wonderful. In living the day to day life it feels impossible.

So today I share with you why I cried myself to sleep this week. Having a good cry was therapeutic. It didn’t take away any of the pain, but I spoke everything out loud to God and cried out WHY?!  We carry so much. We need so much from God. Our hearts ache. We feel alone. Isn’t He listening? Doesn’t He care? Why won’t He answer? Why is He staying silent? Why won’t He heal the broken relationship and save the unsaved we cry our for? So many questions.

I pray today’s episode brings you some peace. We may not have all the answers, and honestly we may not get any answers for a while. But today I want to offer you some hope. I am hurting right alongside you. I am carrying some heavy burdens. Let’s walk through this season of uncertainty together.

I don’t know about you, but sometimes I get so discouraged when I feel like I’m “doing everything right” and nothing happens. I cry out to God, I lay it all before Him, expecting Him to answer in a big way . . . And nothing. No answer. No guidance. Just discouragement. Has this ever happened to you?

Today I share some of my ups and downs about when I ask God to answer a prayer and I hear nothing. I’d love to know your thoughts on this too.

I’m also working on a season surrounding Caleb and his engagement and wedding. It’s going to be a great new season of help for all of us mom’s facing a new season of our lives. Sometimes it seems easier when the boys were babies! This whole growing up thing is so tough sometimes! Stay tuned for the new season!

I’m also working on a new prayer template for us to pray over our children. If you have not requested template one, make sure you shoot me an email and I’ll send it to you! Template two coming soon! Never stop praying over your kids. Satan loves to hate them, but God loves them more than satan could ever hate them.
I pray today’s episode will encourage your heart as you navigate the toughest job you’ll ever love. Motherhood.

Love always,

Today’s guest shares her experience with an eating disorder that almost killed her. Please just be aware that if you have dealt with something similar, there may be some trigger points for you. She and I felt this topic was important because we need to be aware of the signs for not only our kids, but our kids friends. It’s important because how we talk to our kids matter. How we DON’T talk to them also matters.

We need to ask questions.
We have to stop assuming they’re ok.
Give them space to ask questions and to know why they believe what they believe.
Never stop fighting for ourselves or our children.

I was convicted to call one of my boys after this episode and apologize, because it’s never too late and we are never done learning.

I pray today’s episode will encourage your heart as you navigate the toughest job you’ll ever love. Motherhood.

I don’t think it’s specifically in any parenting books, but it is there. I’m not sure when it becomes “a thing”, but all moms feel it for sure. We have to be Super Mom. We need to carry the weight and burdens of our families. But is that true? Do we? We hear people say to us, “oh my goodness, you’re such a great mom! I couldn’t do what you do” . . . And then we go home and cry because the weight of everything seems to be too much. WE feel we couldn’t do what we’re doing either!

So what can we do? How can we change this mentality? Let’s chat about it today!

I’d also love for you to check out the new Mom and Son Study on what does God say about being a man.
I’d ALSO love for any input you may have on the season of life when our children get married. I’m going to create a whole season about this and would love to know your questions (if you’re going to be in this season soon), or any comments (if you’ve already gone through this season). So much to talk about!
Don’t be scared, my friend. You got this.

I pray today’s episode will encourage your heart as you navigate the toughest job you’ll ever love. Motherhood.

That Title caught you. It felt weird to actually even type out. I wanted to delete it as soon as it was written out. Why? Because most of us have heard that said more times than we’d like to think about. We go through tough seasons and when we start to question if God is listening, or if He’s just plain forgotten about us. There have been seasons where I cry out to God and feel like my only answer is silence. If this season is supposed to make me feel like I’m strong in God’s eyes, why do I feel completely weak?

Today’s guest provided so many mic drop moments. Make sure you have a pen and paper handy, and at some points you may need to pause the episode and just sit in awe. I know I had so many of those moments!

I have been talking with so many moms lately, and everyone seems to be saying the same thing . . . We never take time for ourselves - until it’s too late. If we know this - why don’t we do something before we’re burnt out? What can we do about it? I think it’s easier than we think, honestly.

Plus, what if we switch up how we pray? What if we ask God to change our hearts instead of our bodies? It’s sounds simple and difficult all at once. But God can do the impossible!

Here are a few of the episodes I mentioned -

Open and candid. That’s today’s conversation. Angie shares many of her triggers and I openly share some of my not so pretty moments with my boys. If we cannot acknowledge we have triggers and need a change, then change is never going to happen.

BUT. Angie shares how you CAN overcome those feelings of defeat and shame and find healing and freedom! Oh what a beautiful thing!

As mom’s, we face daily situations where we are pushed to our limits, or to where we suddenly fly off the handle with no real thing to pinpoint that happened. But it’s there. Our triggers from the past that creep in and at unsuspecting moments they help us freak out. Tune in to today’s episode as Angie gives us the “5 R’s” when learning to identify our triggers. (You can receive a free download of these with verse too!) Be ready to take some notes as I did! These are seriously life changing. When we begin to change our lives, we begin to change the lives of our children and generations to come. Amazing!!

Angie also takes the time to intercede on your behalf. She pauses our conversation to pray for you and it’s powerful.

Ok, ok, I know the word penis drew you in. If your home is ANYthing like mine . . . There is constant talk about penises, farts, poop, and other such nonsense that’s life. Anyone else?? You too? I don’t think I have EVER met a fellow Boymom who does not have talks about poop and penises in their house.

The series I reference in today’s episode are the “God’s Design for Sex” series by Stan and Brenna Jones. They are SO good and in alignment with our beliefs and what we desire for our boys. I’m not saying every conversation is easy, but they ARE necessary. If YOU are not talking to your kids about sex . . . Then who is? Who will? That’s scary. Where will they get their information from? TV? Movies? Hollywood? All puke.

The other thing I mentioned, and I would love to hear from you, is something for a future episode that ties into our conversation today. I had an experience as a kid when I went to a sleepover at a friends house, and I would love to know if you had a similar experience. (You do NOT have to be a guest, I just want to get a compilation of thoughts and experiences for us to talk about.) If you would like to be a guest . . . I would love to have you! YOU have a beautiful story! Whether you think so or not, your story is important and God gave you this story to help and encourage other mama’s. Love you!!

Penis and sex conversations can be tough, but if we make them a normal part of our dialogue with our kids, it will be something that is not weird for them as they get older. We need to be a safe place for them where they can share their struggles and desires and their ups and downs. ** After I’d recorded this episode and was telling a friend about it, she shared that her teen son will openly come to them and ask them to pray for him when he’s struggling. That is beautiful!! I know I want this for my boys!! We definitely don’t want them getting confused about what the belly button is for! (WHAT? What does that even mean?? Listen in and you’ll find out!) 🤪

ALSO!! The Resurgent Masculinity Study is out!! I am loving it and so excited!! If you’d like for me to send you a free day to try out with your son, let me know and I’ll send it right over!
I pray today’s episode will encourage your heart as you navigate the toughest job you’ll ever love. Motherhood.

Love always,

She is a Mom Of 18 (WHAT??!) and she’s written the blog - Mom’s Running It - for over 10 years. That alone stopped me in my tracks. How can a mom of 18 find peace and time for herself? How can she find what matters in each day? Aren’t we all just trying to play catch up?

How can we get the transformation we do badly desire when our days are filled with kids and all the things they need? Is change, peace, and transformation even possible?

Today’s guest is a published author of a self-help memoir "Hello, My Name Is... Warrior Princess" (I’ve read it and it’s SO good!) Jenn Taylor is also the host of “At A Crossroads with The Naked Podcaster” for over 4 1/2 years, as well as a Transformational Coach for Christian Women, and Motivational Speaker! Jenn is an NLP Practitioner and has 15+ years in the foster care sector as both a parent and a trainer. She’s married to an amazing man in Reno, NV, she’s a runner, minimalist, and healthy lifestyle enthusiast. How is all this even possible with 18 kids?? I have 5 and sometimes feel like life is flying by and there’s not enough time to accomplish all I set out to do.

Well today is the episode for you, my dear friend. Today you get to be blessed and encouraged by my new friend, Jenn. She has so much wisdom and insight to share and you do not want to miss one single second. You can connect with Jenn on her website, which is momsrunningit.com

If you’d like more info on the Mom and Son Study that is live and ready for purchase today, don’t hesitate to reach out! It’s life changing!

I love using my time with you each week to share some of the things that I learn. I know that by God working in me, I need to be sharing it with you so you can hopefully be learning some things too! Sometimes learning isn’t fun. Sometimes it’s frustrating. And honestly, sometimes I don’t want to learn. I’d rather sit and wallow in my misery.

That’s how my day started out. I’d gone to bed frustrated and annoyed and I woke up ready to journal and vent my frustrations to God. Why wan’t He helping? What wasn’t He listening? Woe is me and my horrible life. Well, that’s how I’d PLANNED on starting my day . . . Until God spoke and said, “I don’t think so, Adrianne. Not today.” He opened my eyes to a story found in Luke 17:11-19, and my day and perspective completely changed.

Today I also share about a social media post that got people talking and finally, I am so excited to announce that we are only WEEKS away from the Mother and Son Study on What the Bible Says About Masculinity being released!! I’m also learning that everything is in God’s timing…NOT in Adrianne’s. I think we can apply this to so many areas of our lives! But when God calls us to do something, He WILL get it done.

I pray today’s episode will encourage your heart as you navigate the toughest job you’ll ever love. Motherhood.

Sometimes talking about sex with our middle schooler feels easier than talking about our own sex life. As moms, a sex life may seem like just one more chore or thing to add to our never ending list of things to do. Just one more person who needs something from us seems overwhelming and less enjoyable than it did before kids, before busy became a way of life and not just a word.

How can you keep sex a priority?
Why is sex important?
Should I schedule sex? And if I do, how can it be more than just something on my to do list? What of I’m thinking about my to do list DURING sex??! AAAHHHH!!!!

Today’s amazing guest is the host of The Passion Connected Podcast, a Honeymoon Coach and Counselor in training. She shares some amazing but practical tips and answers so many of my questions! Questions I’ve heard from so many of you!

Throw in some headphones (because our kids may puke while listening with us), grab a notebook and pen and enjoy today’s amazing chat with Amanda Ammons! My new best friend 🥰

All I can say is, you’d better get your pen and paper ready when you listen to this episode. I love jotting notes down during each guest interview, but Christy made me feel like a kid frantically taking notes! I couldn’t get enough and I didn’t want to miss a single thing.

Christy Campbell is a Boymom of two, with a surprise blessing of a little girl not so long ago. She’s a Navy veteran and runs an amazing coaching company called Fitme.

Today Christy shares simple sustainable steps we can take each day to not only feel better, but look better in the process. She answers important questions like, “How do you build a healthy plate?” And, “What is the overlooked piece to living our best life.” Oh friend, you do NOT want to miss a single word of Christy’s story and journey. You will not only be encouraged that she knows exactly how you are feeling right now, but you will find the tools and strategies you need to live with intention.

Happy New Year, my dear friend!
I am so overflowing with excitement today and had to share some of my thoughts with you. I know everyone is busy making their New Years resolutions with no intentions of taking a step forward, but it sounds good, right?

Let’s stop making the lists of things we’re never going to do, and start looking for the positives in all we do. Let’s be intentional with our time. Let’s not wait for the flip of a calendar or new week to dictate when we are going to change something that needs our attention.

I hadn’t even given any thought to “a word” for the new year, but as I sat here talking with you, it just came out! Do you have a word for the new year? I’d love to hear it!

Join our Facebook group. Connect with me on social. Stay tuned for the release of the Mom and Son Study. So many exciting things!

As we head into the days before Christmas and into the New Year, I wanted to share a few things I have been learning and thinking about the past couple weeks.

So often we head into the holiday’s filled with stress that turns into complaining. We are filled with the cursed of comparison and more joy is something that never even crosses our minds. Then a few days later we head into a new year, a flip of the calendar, and while nothing actually changes, we make these plans of grandeur filled with all the changes we’re going to make THIS time. But we stay in the same rut.

This year I want it to be different for us. I want us to have less stress and more joy. I want us know that it’s not all about the gifts, but in the giving of ourselves, our time, our attention.

Maybe you’ve heard of Mary and Martha, maybe you haven’t. (Head to Luke 10 to read about them.) Most women see themselves as one or the other. But what would happen if we were a little bit of both? What if we practiced hospitality AND had friendships. Is it possible?

I’m praying for you. I’m praying for Joy and Peace and less stress in your life. I pray you connect with your kids. I pray they feel seen by you. I pray you feel seen and appreciated.
I pray today’s episode will encourage your heart as you navigate the toughest job you’ll ever love. Motherhood.

A teenage mom. A set of twins. A homeless shelter. No Hope.
Did she give up? Throw in the towel?
Tune in to today’s episode and be encouraged.
This was the perfect guest to join us before Christmas, as she shares where her Hope comes from. I found it fascinating that God can use us ANYwhere. We don’t have to be a pastor or even in a church. God can use you in an coffee shop!

You had better have a pen and some paper handy today, because oh boy. Today’s guest has so many amazing life-changing truths to share with you.

How can speaking positive words change a situation?
What does having open conversations do for relationships?
What does the “weary world rejoices” even mean?!
And how can we POSSIBLY turn fear into rejoicing and praise? (And frankly, why should we?)

Today’s Bible verses were read from The Message version and can be found in I Peter 5:8-11.

I can go on and on about Hannah, but more than anything I’d love for you to be encouraged today, so give a listen and leave a review below!

Every second of my chat with today’s guest caused me to pause and think. Nothing she does is being talked about on social media. She doesn’t ask for accolades. She isn’t well known. BUT. She is making a difference and changing lives.

The bottom line of being a mom cannot be disputed. Nobody cares more about your kids than you. I can’t even describe how this thought is manifesting itself into every guest episode, and into so many of my daily thoughts about my boys. We fight for them. We love them. We advocate for them. We make the tough decisions for them…because if WE don’t? Than WHO?? You know who. No one. So stop living in fear, Stop doubting your worth. Stop loving in guilt. You are doing amazing. You are doing a most precious job that no one else is!

Tune in to today’s episode to find out how this mom of five stays sane. Who she turns to for strength, and what her mission field is. Grab a notebook and pen and get ready to be taken to church today! I know I was!

I don’t know about you, but I feel like my thoughts, struggles and emotions are on a constant teeter-totter. I pray one thing, feel confident and peace, then all of a sudden I’m struggling again! There are days I look back and I’m ashamed, then there are others I know God is using my mess ups.

I love learning from others. I love learning from songs, books, messages, and Bible studies.
What I need to continually remember, though, is we are all different. What God is working on in me, may not be the same as He is for someone else. And what God is working on in someone else’s life, may not be something He wants me to work on right now. Does that make sense? (Words are sometimes easier for me to SAY than type haha.) How often do we get overwhelmed with everything we “need to do”? And this can be spiritually, in our workouts and health, our jobs, our kids, our marriages…and the list goes on and on. What if God is asking you to sit in silence and listen for Him? What if He’s wanting you to turn off all the noise and just listen for Him and what He’s saying? If you’re anything like me, it’s really tough to do, but it’s also pretty necessary!

So stop focusing on what everyone else is learning and doing and focus on what GOD is telling you.

I pray today’s episode will encourage your heart as you navigate the toughest job you’ll ever love. Motherhood.

Do you ever have those weeks where motherhood seems like more of a struggle than a joy? That was my week before today’s chat with my guest, Carolyn Sanders. I was struggling with confidence in homeschooling and wondering if I’d made the right decision. I was discouraged and feeling defeated. Then I started chatting with Carolyn and she lit a fire in me once again. She shares about her children’s mental health and the fight she needed to pursue to protect them. She shares about teaching home skills and things most of our kids aren’t learning in school, but definitely need to be.

As we chatted, I was constantly reminded of the phrase, “if not me, then who?” If we don’t fight for our kids, their mental health, the things they learn, the happiness they have…then who will? We know the answer, don’t we? If not me? Then no one.

Carolyn shares some quick tips on how we can be better moms in our day to day living and I recommend you grab some paper as you listen.

Don’t be scared, my friend. You got this.

The following tips are not mine. Today’s amazing guest has been inspiring me for quite a while now and I finally was able to get her on as a guest! If you have any more questions, please reach out to me or Chelsea and just get started! Believe me. I know how starting out can feel…overwhelming. I’ve been there and I’m still working on getting even better. Once you know you know, though, and I am so very thankful for friends and guests like Chelsea!

Where to start:

  1. Start somewhere.
  2. Start reading labels and ingredients.
  3. Use Think Dirty and EWG Healthy Living apps to help explain ingredients.
  4. Start swapping 1-2 products that you care about or products you need refills on, then go from there.
  5. Look into the products you are buying and their parent companies (who do they stand for/what products do they sell/could their be quality compromise - look it up).

This episode was supposed to be aired yesterday, but my internet would not cooperate, so here we are. I am not going to be upset by it though, because that is something I’m going to be working on this year…not sweating the small stuff.

I love looking back each year on my birthday and seeing how much I’ve learned and how I’ve changed from the year before. I went back to last years birthday episode and even just listening to my voice showed me how much I’ve changed. Instead of being upset I’m a year older, I am excited for the future and all God has in store. We hear so often that the 20’s are the best years of our lives, but I beg to differ. I look at my boys (3 of whom are in their 20’s) and see how we knew nothing back then. We were trying to figure out how we were, where we were headed, and what our next step was going to be…almost like those monkeys with the cymbals banging around haha. But now, 45 years later…while we don’t have it all figured out, we have more confidence in God’s presence in our lives. He doesn’t JUST use us when we are young. We don’t hit a certain age and then we’re useless. Oh no. We need to always be ready! What hope we have! It doesn’t mean our hearts won’t be broken, people won’t be mean to us, or it’s smooth sailing. It does mean, we know what to keep our eyes on. God. His plans. His ways. His strength. So don’t sweat the small stuff and be excited for another year of growing older and wiser!

Plus, tune in for my singing debut here on The Relentless Boymom podcast (it will probably never happen again…or it may. Who knows?)

I love you, my friend. You are doing a fabulous job.
I pray today’s episode will encourage your heart as you navigate the toughest job you’ll ever love. Motherhood.

Today’s episode just poured out of me as I share some of my thoughts on how we hold our own selves back (and then in turn our kids)  when we turn so many things that God created in us, into weaknesses! Yes, there is a time for everything, but spending our days saying sorry (and training our kids to do the same) is not what God intended for you or I! Talk too much? Use it to tell others about Jesus. Shy? Use it to be aware of who around needs you to be praying for them.

I reference the term “Trophy of Grace” in todays episode and the late, Mark Hopper, wrote a song with that name. It’s something we ALL need to remember and stop being so hard on ourselves!

If you, or someone you know, would like to be a part of my homeschool panel for a later expedite, let me know! I’d love to chat with you.
And remember to check out my new website!

I pray today’s episode will encourage your heart as you navigate the toughest job you’ll ever love. Motherhood.

I’ve come to realize that even if I have a topic in mind, sometimes I just start talking and it has nothing at all to do with what I’d originally planned! Welcome to a conversation with me haha. If we were to sit down or go for a walk and chat, I can switch topics on a dime. Today is no different.

I share today’s review and it gets me thinking about something I’ve been feeling like God is telling me…and that’s to share the true ups and downs and to be REAL. Yes. God is working in my life, but no it is not always easy or peachy or even “Christian”. Sometimes I’m angry, I struggle, I doubt…but don’t we all? Being honest with myself helps me be honest with you and to let you know you aren’t alone. Your feelings are valid. You being honest with yourself helps your children to know they are okay too. If we lived perfect mom lives and they tried to achieve that, they’d fail because perfection is just not true. So be honest with yourself and me honest with your kids.

Here is a podcast I referenced today that was SO good!

Today’s episode is a smorgasbord of thoughts that all come nicely together at the end. I love when that happens. I had so many thoughts running through my mind all day and couldn’t grab just one out to talk about. That’s what motherhood is too, a smorgasbord of sorts. We’re constantly on the go. We have a thousand and one things to do at any given time. There is ALWAYS someone who needs us. Life is filled with highs and lows. Whew that list could go on and on! But when it comes down to it, our kids will always be our kids and need their mom, no matter their age.

So grab a cup of coffee, curl up, and hang on tight as mI navigate my many thoughts and rabbit trails today. I pray God uses my words to encourage your heart and get you moving on changing something that needs changing in your life.
Love you friend.

“If we do not protect our kids, no one will.” ~ Nicky Asher-Bowling

As a mom, so much of my kids lives depend on me…No one will fight for them if I don’t. No one will protect them if I don’t. No one will advocate for them if I don’t. I should have made some of these guests into a series! So many moms are saying the same things week after week, day after day…If we don’t. Who will?? It’s tough. It’s overwhelming some days. It’s beautiful and brings us to tears other days. Your kids need you. There is no doubt with that.

Then we moved onto puberty, boundaries, dating, single mom life…nothing was off limits. I know you will enjoy today’s conversation as much as I did! And remember…you are doing an amazing job. You are the perfect mom for your kids. Protect them. Advocate for them. Love them. You got this.

I pray today’s episode will encourage your heart as you navigate the toughest job you’ll ever love. Motherhood.

I’m not even sure how to title today’s episode. It’s taken me a little bit to actually talk about it all because part of me wanted to be real and not say the proper and expected things. We all know we can and need to rely on God in the tough moments. We all know we can and need to forgive those who have hurt us. We all KNOW those things, but when it comes to the day to day and the tough moments, then what? Are we big fat failures when our emotions run deep and are on our sleeves? We can read all the beautiful stories of peace and God working and while it’s all true, what about the deep down feelings? The actual struggles? How did the others get to where they are and have these success stories and breakthroughs? And what about if the actual thoughts aren’t all that pretty?

Well, today I share the days and moments leading up to my son’s big proposal day. I knew his dad and his dad’s wife would be there. How would I feel? How would I react? How could I prepare and how did I honestly get through the day? The tough moments. Here it is. The down and dirty. The not so pretty parts and thoughts. But also the wins and successes. I share what it’s like to be the mom excited for her son, but not sure exactly what to expect.

If you are in the same situation where you have experienced divorce or separation and the time has come where you need to face your fears and insecurities, then this is the episode for you. Imperfect. Real.

Being a mom is difficult in and of itself. We’re constantly bombarded with thoughts of “am I doing this right?” “Am I doing enough?” “Am I enough?” And those are just on a Monday morning!

Today’s guest shares a part of her story with us, and it really gets me thinking. So many guests are saying different versions of the same thing, so we need to take notice. We need to be encouraged and strengthened that God gave us our children. He made no accident. We are perfect for them. He chose us for them. That means we cannot be afraid to fight for them. We cannot sit back and do nothing when we know in our hearts something just isn’t right. What about when the “professionals” tell us everything is fine? YOU FIGHT. If you don’t fight for your kid. If you don’t advocate for your kid. If you don’t love your kid. No one will! They need you!

I know you will love today’s guest and conversation just as much as I did. Listen. Leave a review. Then go fight for your kid!!

Today’s Mom Tip is all about the expectations we have for ourselves and for our children, and what to remember on the less than stellar days.

We all want our kids to succeed. I’m sure we all push our kids even a little bit harder than we do ourselves. But why? Why aren’t we living to the highest expectations first as an example to them? I’ve grown up playing sports and have 4 (out of 5) competitive boys. I expect them to give it their all, no slacking. But what about when their best on a particular day isn’t the 100% from the day before?

Join me as I talk through some examples from this week on this very topic. I’m daily  looking for topics I can share with you. It might be in something I’m reading, or in something I am experiencing. You are actually helping me stay accountable as a mom! Thank you!

I know that you are discouraged your kids have walked away from God. You’ve prayed over them. You took them to church every time the doors were opened. You did “everything right”, yet here you are. Discouraged. Hands in the air raised in frustration and sadness. How do you get them to see?? What can you do to open their eyes to God’s truth? Honestly? It’s not up to you. Keep praying of course. Every day without ceasing. Pray and don’t stop.

Ok, so we get that, but what else?? I know so many of you want to send daily verse that mean something to you because of course it’ll mean something to them, too, right? Unfortunately, probably not. My husband is someone who says he doesn’t believe in God at all, and it’s tough, but I refuse to do nothing. So today I share a few of the things that I have slowly done over the years to soften his heart towards me sharing God with him. I am God’s vessel. God will do the rest. And the same goes for you, my friend.  Whether it’s your spouse or your child, keep praying and being God’s light. but most of all…DON’T GIVE UP. EVER.

I pray today’s episode will encourage your heart as you navigate the toughest job you’ll ever love. Motherhood.

“Even when God doesn’t answer in the way you want…KEEP PRAYING.”
~ Sasha Star Robertson

Today’s guest not only shares part of her story, she shares how she got through the tough times and how we can get through our tough times too. God often uses us in ways we never dreamed or thought possible. When we are open to God and His plan, we are not only blessed, we are also in a position to help others on their journey too.

I learned so much in today’s conversation with Sasha Star Robertson and know you will too. I wanted to link another episode that relates to our conversation . If you have not listened to Amber’s Birth Mom Story - Episode 93 - please go listen (after this episode of course.)

So this wasn’t actually supposed to be my topic today, but as I got tot asking, the words just came out and I went with it. I guess this was something we all needed to be reminded of right now? I know it’s easy to get busy and run through a drive thru or pick up a quick processed foods dinner that is ready “in minutes”, but I’m not so sure it’s really worth it in the long run, honestly.

I’m there with you. Kids in sports. Concerts. Running here and there and no time for anything, let alone a healthy meal, but I promise you, it CAN be done. It’ll take some work, but before you know it, it’ll be a habit and something you don’t even have to think about!

If you and your kids are lacking energy. If your kids are acting out of control. If you just want to pull your hair out from it all, then let’s start with the foods we’re putting in our bodies and go from there! I promise you, mama, it’s gonna make a HUGE difference!
Here are some tips to get you started. I’d love to know if you have any tips for me to share too!
Let me know!

When we look at the big picture of things, or a huge to-do list, it can seem pretty daunting and overwhelming. How often do we set a weight loss goal, only to give up a few weeks in because we haven’t lost as much as we thought we should? I mean, I gave up pop, processed foods, and my nightly ice cream and thought for SURE I’d drop at LEAST 5 pounds that first week. And NOTHING. So what’s the point, right?

What about when our kids are facing the end of high school and have no idea what they want to do “when they grow up” (do any of us??) but their graduation party is looming over them and they know everyone will be asking what their plans are.

What about our kids getting married and everyone has a thought and plan for them?

How can we tackle all of this? How can we overcome the giving up in our own lives and encourage our kids to do the same?

Join me as I take a quick walk today and share my thoughts on all of this. You know I need to talk about my thoughts to grow, so come learn and grow with me today!

As I was talking with today’s guest, I realized she could be my daughter! I don’t feel old though. It’s fine. Everything is fine. I would have loved having a friend like her when my boys were younger. While Is truffled with what everyone thought about my parenting skills, Hannah knows she’s doing her best and that’s all that matters to her.

We had a great conversation talking about how childhood trauma can actually help us to be better moms. We don’t need to use abandonment as an excuse, but as a reason to be better. It’s always best to get help and work through issues instead of ignoring them and pretending they’re not there, and even though we’re different, we can all encourage each other.

I thoroughly enjoyed my conversation with Hannah today, and I pray you have some takeaways to encourage you that you’re doing an amazing job!

I remember being a young new mom, thinking I knew it all…until I didn’t. Probably during my pregnancy I realized I had no clue. I’d grown up around babies and kids my whole life, so I felt that made me a pro..until it didn’t.

When I realized I didn’t know it all, I became so sad and discouraged and felt like the worst mom ever. How in the heck was I ever going to raise these boys if I didn’t know it all?! I was doomed to failure from the start, wasn’t I? Or was I?

As the years went by and one boy became 4, then 5, I realized that every day was going to be an opportunity for me AND for them. Was it bad to let them know I didn’t have all the answers? How could I respond when they asked a question I had no clue how to answer? And oh boy throw in type 1 diabetes and GREAT. What now?? Then it hit me. I didn’t need to know everything. I didn’t need to have all the answers as soon as they asked me. And today’s episode will show you how, and it will show you why, and it will give you 3 reasons why it’s ok to not know it all.

You are going to have a little bit of homework today. Trust me, it’s a good kind (if that’s a thing?) But it will encourage your mama heart, as well as be powerful for your kids as well.

You’ve heard me talk about the course/devotional that I am in the process of creating for mom’s to do with their sons and I wanted to take one of the lessons and have us complete it. Being a masculine man doesn’t mean you are the strongest to the best athlete or can leap tall buildings in a single bound. It does mean you are hardworking, courageous, filled with compassion and you believe the truth about what God says about you. Sounds simple right? Ugh, until you throw in the daily lies of the devil, and boy is he good at what he does. He not only deceives us, but also our children. That’s why I want the truth to start with you. The truth HAS to start with you, mama, before it can pour over onto your kids.

So listen in to today’s episode and do your homework for finding God’s truth about you. Once you do, it’s only natural that your kids will start to see and believe the truth about themselves too!

Being a mom has many ups and downs, many highs and lows. We are constantly being pulled in different ways, we have many hats to wear, our to-do list seems near impossible to complete. Add in being a single mom, and it can be downright exhausting.

My conversation with Cala is inspiring as she shares how she makes sure to daily do something to work on herself. It’s a continuing process, but one we can’t ever give up on and one we can’t ever stop working on. When we are noticing anxiety and the need for help in ourselves, this can be beneficial to our children as well.

Today’s episode will inspire you to make sure you care not only for yourself, but in doing so, your children as well. There is no shame in therapy. There is no shame in asking for help. We need to give grace to ourselves on the days we yell at our kids or don’t do anything for ourselves. The thoughts and encouragement Cala offers today can be used not only in parenting, but in weight loss, in chasing our dreams, in anything!

I have been reading “Praying the Scriptures Over Your Adult Children” by Jodie Berndt and while reading today I came across a sentence that stopped me in my tracks.
“Even when you fee your children are out of reach, they are never out of God’s reach”.
BOOM.
How many times do we feel far from our children? How often do we feel hopeless and helpless? Oh we know we need to pray over them, but in the moments we feel they are so far away, do we remember that God has them? Do we remember that God is never far from them? This was one little sentence that changed my fear into praise. No fear when I feel I can’t help my boys, only praise that I serve a God who hears and will never forget about my children.

Ok hear me out!
This morning I’m out for my morning walk and as I walk, I am praying.
As I am praying, I start thinking about the changes God has been making in my life.
As I’m thinking about all the changes God is making in my life, I think about my boys and how I teach them. Is it how God teaches me? It’s not. But I need to strive to be more like Him.

Just like God is working in me from the inside out, I need to be more aware of what may be going on in my boys lives. Instead of just reacting immediately, how about I stop and pray. What is going on in their hearts? What does God want to show them?

Grab some headphones and your walking shoes and join me on my morning walk where we can work through some of these parenting ups and downs together!

I know every one of you out there would take on ANY pain your kid has to go through as your own. There is nothing worse for a mom than watching her kid suffer and there is nothing we can do about it. I’ve been there and I know you have too.

That’s why I thought it perfect to bring James on as today’s guest because 6 years ago he was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes and our lives…and HIS life…changed forever. I can remember the day clearly and as I sit here thinking about that day, and all of you, I know you can clearly think of a day your own child suffered as you sat there watching and praying to Go that He’d take it away. What if He doesn’t? What if He chooses to not heal and our child faces so many unknowns? Can they learn? Can they be strong? Can we learn from them? All of those questions are answered in today’s episode as James walks us through what he remembers about his Diabetes Day and as we chat, we are reminded of so many lessons we can learn as moms, and our kids can learn. Were they chosen for “such a time as this”? (As Esther was?) Yes. Yes they were. And you were chosen as the perfect mom for them.

Being organized and prepared is not in my natural bent. It was something I had to work extra hard at because I saw how it affected my family. Waking up late, running around all morning or get everyone out of the house, and yelling till we were heading out the door was no way to live. Unfortunately I lived that way for a while.

It’s not going to be easy. But I believe in you, that you can do this. You don’t have to change drastically overnight and you need to learn to give yourself some grace, but over time you can do this and I promise you, it’s so worth it.

In today’s Mom Tip episode, I share some quick tips on how to start being more prepared for each day and how in the long run, this benefits our kids and their lives.

It’s no fun, this being in the middle of the muck. Facing the unknown and uncertainty. Stepping out of your comfort zone and into a phase that doesn’t guarantee everything will turn out perfectly.

So why should we do it then? Why should we quit the comfort? Face the hardship? Bring on the change? Because in the middle of it all we get past the mundane. We move from what is safe and boring and into a whole new world. A life of adventure that God wants us to experience. He didn’t create us to be mundane. He didn’t create us to play it small and safe. he created us to live lives that are extraordinary. And somehow in the midst of the struggle, God allows us to be even more of an example to our kids. They aren’t listening to what we are saying (did we listen to our parents??) but what they are doing, is watching what we do. Do we want our kids to play small? Or did we want our kids to live life to the fullest?
I think I know the answer to that.
So let’s stop playing small ourselves.

Do we all have to be the same? Same views? Same thoughts? Same way of thinking on every subject?
No! Today’s guest was full of truth bombs in regards to her personal connections, self care, how she views others, and what she has been doing to maintain boundaries and keep her sanity.
As we talked, I got more and more excited and wanted to jump up and yell, “YES and AMEN!” So many times!
Amanda has a beautiful story of redefining how we think about ourselves and how we portray that on our children. So often we take our parents way of thinking, even though they want us to believe something different. Just because a mom TELLS her child she is beautiful, don’t mean she’ll believe it, especially if the mom is always so negative about herself! We need to speak better to ourselves before our kids buy into if for THEMselves!
Ugh, SO GOOD! Thank you Amanda!

Whether you are a mom of a baby who doesn’t sleep, or a mom of kids who are out at night…this message is for you. Who we are at 2am is not who we are during the day.  Today’s episode is brought to you from a listener who is a mom of 3 girls under 3.

I had moms chime in on their mom tip for the week and Hannah reminded us all that we need to give ourselves grace. Whether we are dealing with a newborn baby, a toddler that won’t stay in their own bed, or older kids that are out all night, we need to remember that we are amazing.

Social media can be an amazing thing when it connects us with friends. But it can also be a place that causes us some ungratefulness. It’s so easy to look at pictures of other peoples lives all day and compare to what we don’t have. Compare their “perfect life” to our bummer of a life. But how about we be grateful for every little thing?
How about we spend time each day saying thank you for the things we DO have and taking our minds off of the things we don’t.

Plus, when we compare, we start to assume and judge others. We make judgements on their lives that we have no clue about. I’ve done it to others and I’ve had it done to me. Either way you look at it, it’s no fun at all.

You know I’m the type of person who needs to talk through an issue, so today I share some thoughts I’ve been having, and things I’m working on to do to get better.

Not too long ago I found a book that changed my life in regards to praying for my boys.
“Praying the Scriptures for Your Adult Children” not only inspired me to pray verses over my boys, but to pray for them before a crisis, not just after. Speaking a different scripture over my boys has been so special. Picking a special verse to pray over each boy has brought me closer to not only God, but to my boys as well. I was unsure of how to pray scriptures for my boys and this book brought such encouragement (I highly recommend it, of course.)

Today’s guest has written 4 books on praying the scriptures:
Her 20th edition of Praying the Scriptures for Your Children came out this year! How exciting!
She also has Praying the Scriptures for Your Teens, For Your Life (released in June), and the one we focus on today, For Your Adult Children.

Jodie encourages us to just start. To not make it a chore or something difficult. So often we get nervous to start something new because it seems like such a huge undertaking. But I promise you, my sweet friend, it’s empowering. We put so much pressure on ourselves as it is. Let God speak to you.

Jodie also mentions a prayer journal she uses that can be found @growthrootsco

When someone hurts us, it’s nice to know we have others in our corner. We need friends to talk to, to vent to, to tell us how wrong the other person was. Those friends should not be our children. I know it’s easy to think it’s in their best interest to know, but what if it’s not? What if it only hurts them more? What if it makes them feel they a re forced to choose. Choose between a mom or dad. Choose between us and someone else they care about.

Today I share some quick thoughts on why our kids should not be our confidants. Why they will grow up having enough of their own to worry about, they don’t need our baggage too. We need to be open and honest with our kids, but that line needs to be drawn of what we’re dealing with in our relationships, finances, and personal struggles.

I’m also excited to share some more about the course I am creating for moms to do alongside their sons. In a world where they are told they shouldn’t be masculine, we learn straight from the Bible how God sees them, and what He expects of them. It’s going to be so fun, so stay tuned for more info!!

17 years ago I found myself sitting on a couch, all my belongings in storage, no plan, and completely alone. Ever been there? There now?

There’s no miracle answer that is going to get you through. What will get you through is one step forward every single day.

I had to do a lot of pretending for my boys. As their mom, I was the one they looked to. Their life was in shambles, but I did my best to pretend it was a big adventure. I messed up a lot, I know. But I also created some great memories.

Today I talk about my couch moment and offer you some of the tips and encouragement Ive found to be true over the years. Tips and encouragement that I know will be beneficial to you as well. You may be sitting on a couch, feeling alone and having no plan too, but what I do know is…you CAN do this.

I pray today’s episode will encourage your heart as you navigate the toughest job you’ll ever love. Motherhood.

Let’s face it. We’ve all messed up. None of us are the perfect mom and if anyone says they’ve been, sorry (not sorry) to be rude, but they’re lying. We all have those moments where we yelled at our kids for the dumbest reason and wish we could go back and have a redo. Yes, let’s learn from  those times and be better, do better….BUT. We have GOT to stop focusing on them! I have a few instances from when my boys were younger, that I seem to cling to. I can’t let go. I beat myself up. But how is that helping me? How is that helping my boys today? How is that helping  our relationship? It’s not.

Let’s flip the script today. Let’s ask for forgiveness where needed, but let’s move on. Today I share some tips on what I am going to start implementing as a mom. And yes, I’m not great at this yet, but I want to be!

I mention a book I am reading called “Wild at Heart” by John Eldredge. I HIGHLY recommend this book!
I reference Ecclesiastes 3:1-8.
And the song I reference is “Turn! Turn! Turn!” By the Byrds ( I was close haha)

I pray today’s episode will encourage your heart as you navigate the toughest job you’ll ever love. Motherhood.

I asked a question in our Relentless Boymom Facebook group last week, and the answers made me sad. We’ve got anxiety and stress. We never have time for ourselves. We tell our families we are burnt out, but no one seems to hear. Do we just go on being stressed and burnt out? Heck no! We can’t let this go on. We can’t stay this way because how can we give to everyone we need to when we have nothing left to give? It breaks my heart seeing moms walking around feeling (and looking) tired and depleted.

So what do we do? It’s how it’s always been. How do we change it? Today I share some practical tips and motivation. It almost seems to simple. But we’ve gotta take the first step to a better life for us, and our families.

I’m also excited to announce that I am in the editing stages of a weekly course (I need a better word!) that moms can do with their sons! This is going to be absolutely amazing. It’s a guide we’ll go through with our sons, taking men from the Bible, and showing them how to be men. They are growing up in a world that discourages masculinity and strength and we are going to show them what GOD says. Stay tuned for it!

And if you aren’t a part of our Relentless Boymom Facebook group, request in today!

I pray today’s episode will encourage your heart as you navigate the toughest job you’ll ever love. Motherhood.

Being a mom is exhausting. The sleepless nights. The toy filled floor. The stinky teen bedroom.
None of us are exempt from it, but we all struggle with it, even when we’re pretending we’re not.

What about if you faced all those things…and on top of that had your own health battles. Type 1 diabetes is a silent disease, meaning you can’t tell someone has it just by looking at them. The highs and lows of motherhood are through the roof when you are experiencing highs and lows with your blood sugar.

Today’s guest is amazing. She was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at age 5, thought she’d never be able to get pregnant, and today is a mom of 2. Her story is amazing. Her relentless attitude and outlook on life and motherhood is one to be admired. I am so thankful we had the opportunity to sit and chat. I was so encouraged and know you will be as well.
Life is difficult. Motherhood is exhausting. Let’s stop pretending it’s all butterflies and roses and share the good, the bad, and the not so pretty parts. Let’s stop the judgement on others and ourselves and keep raising some beautiful humans!

You can connect with Katie on Instagram @katiedelayer and Facebook Katie Delayer.
She will be a fast forever friend.

Chores.
Yuck.
I know I’m not a fan, so getting my boys to get excited about them is also a chore.
But we can’t send our kids out into the world, not knowing how to do anything.
Laundry. Dishes, Making Beds. All vital. And a mother’s “job” is never done.
I have a sign hanging in my house that says a mom works from “Son up to Son down” and it could not be more true.
But how do we do it?
Do we have them do it and then go fix it to our expectations?
Today I share some things I have learned over the years. Having boys ranging from 25 to 6 has definitely brought some ups and downs in this department. But one thing I’ve learned? They HAVE to be a part of it.

Today I share some age appropriate chores my boys do and some things I’ve learned in how to get them to be a part in our house running smoothly. AND some ideals I’ve had to give up for the time being.

I pray today’s episode will encourage your heart as you navigate the toughest job you’ll ever love. Motherhood.

I stopped praying for patience a LOOOONG time ago. I felt the more I prayed to have patience, the more obstacles would arise that forced me to work on having patience. I guess that’s not the best route to go, but God still wants us to be patient. He wants us to be patient with our spouse, with our children, while driving, while waiting of course. But I believe the area He wants us to have the MOST patience?? In waiting on Him. Waiting for His perfect timing and perfect plan. And I am SO not good at this. My grandma bought me a book once that was called, “I Want What I Want When I Want It”. I was pretty upset when I opened it because I never saw myself as being like that, but at 44 I realize that’s exactly how I am. I pray. I want answers right then. I ask God for help? I need it a minute ago. And that’s just not how He works.

Today while I was having my quiet time, I came across Psalms 37 and I knew I had to share it with you.

I pray today’s episode will encourage your heart as you navigate the toughest job you’ll ever love. Motherhood.

What do you do when you have a feeling something just isn’t right with your child, but no one seems to say anything? No tests. No questions. But something just isn’t right.

How do you feel when you finally get a diagnosis, but not the one you were expecting?

Today’s guest talks candidly about her sons autism diagnosis and everything they went through before and after. The feelings of guilt, the joys in the little things.

She also shares tips for moms who feel that something may be off with their child and what to do.
She shares tips for moms who are in the thick of a diagnosis and what we as moms can do to support and encourage other moms. My conversation with Devin was eye opening and encouraging. I loved it, and I know you will as well.

Some mom tips are things I’ve learned over the years. Some tips are happening in real time. We are never done learning as moms, I don’t care how old our kids are.
This past week I had a little breakdown and a few of my boys happened to be home. My first instinct is to typically go in my room and have a good cry by myself. Sometimes that’s ok. Sometimes we need to cry and our kids don’t need to be stressed about it all.
Then there are times when they hear or they’re a part of the situation and it’s good to see that we aren’t above hurt. That it’s ok to cry.
One of my boys really stepped up this week, and I think it’s changed our mother/son relationship in a wonderful way.

Today I share some things I learned while letting my boys see me cry, and I think my insight will be wonderful for you to hear as well.

I was so excited for the message of this episode, but then as I dug a little deeper into some of the lives of the men from the Bible I talked about, I realized I’d made a few mistakes, ugh.
I debated over and over about deleting it, but then I realized the message is still the same. We need to keep moving forward. We’re going to make mistakes, it’s inevitable. But it’s never a reason to quit. It’s a reason to keep moving forward.

Here are a few of my mistakes:
Moses was not 40 at the burning bush…he was 80!! (Exodus 7:7)
Moses was 40 when he killed the Egyptian and fled (Acts 7:23)

Caleb was in fact 40 when he was called to be a spy in Canaan (Joshua 14:7)
Caleb was about 80 when he helped lead a war into Canaan (Joshua 14:10-11)

You may make mistakes. You may want to quit. You may feel too old. You may be surrounded by naysayers and people who don’t believe in you.
God is bigger than your mistakes and bigger than even your dreams.
Don’t give up.
Just let your haters be your motivators!

And stay tuned for the Mom and Son course coming out soon!!

I pray today’s episode will encourage your heart as you navigate the toughest job you’ll ever love. Motherhood.

Do you have that friend that no matter how much time is passed, you can pick up the phone and chat like you just saw each other yesterday? That no matter how far apart you live, distance means nothing? That is what my conversation with Amy Samo is like today.

She is a veteran homeschooling mom with so much insight, one episode is not going to be enough! What she shares is helpful to not JUST homeschooling moms either, but all moms. Our kids learn differently, and she shares some of her experience with that.

This is a great conversation between 2 friends, but one that is filled with encouragement for you. I know for a fact Amy is going to be a guest again VERY soon, and you will fall in love with her just like I did.

If you listened to my episode with Ellie (103), then you heard her mention the boys treating her like a princess. (If you have not listened to that episode?? Go now and then come back!)
Her comment got me thinking about today’s mom tip.

I love being strong. I love being independent.
But I also love when AJ and the boys open the doors for me.
I don’t feel weak. I don’t feel that it takes anything away from me.

I feel we all should be teaching our sons that chivalry is something they should always do, and teach our daughters it’s something they should always require.

In today’s episode I tell you why I have my boys open the doors for me and why I feel it’s so important. If your boys don’t already open your doors, it may take a second to get them in the habit, but you won’t regret it…and neither will their future girlfriends and wives!

Talking about past struggles and wins is great for us all to learn from, but real time struggles and triumphs is great too! I started this podcast because I struggled as a young mom, and I knew God was calling me to share my life to help and encourage fellow moms, His daughters. He wants us all to win. He wants us all to know He’s always there. Even in the things we feel are unimportant to Him…like our weight.

Be for real. If you struggle with your weight or body image, do you take it to God? Do you feel you even can? Part of my story involves my weight and crazy enough, I have been getting messages from so many of you who are struggling with the same! So I knew it was time to share what my struggle has been, and what I’m doing, in real time, to help my mindset first, and then my body.

How we talk to ourselves reflects itself onto our kids. If we’re constantly putting ourselves down…they will too.
If we’re constantly obsessing over our weight and food…they will too.
When I switched my focus to my health, to my mindset, to the way I talked to myself, everything changed. Some days are better than others, not gonna lie. I didn’t just switch my mindset suddenly and life was all better…it takes work, friends! But be encouraged with my tips and encouragement today. You, we all, can do this!

I pray today’s episode will encourage your heart as you navigate the toughest job you’ll ever love. Motherhood.

Last week I was blessed to share an episode with my boys and their take on being a mom. (It was a great episode, and you need to go check it out if you haven’t already!)

I thought it only right to share another perspective…the 1st girl to enter this family. We get so caught up and comfortable in our lives and our day to day, that sometimes we forget the outsiders making their way in. The girl who will be entering unchartered territory. The girl who will be paving the way for the 4 coming up behind her.

What was it like? How did we make her feel welcome? What was she warned about before she met THE MOM. The only girl in this Boymom house so far. Will I share my Queendom? And not only that, but how can moms support their kids as they navigate the dating scene? How can we encourage them as they plan a wedding?

I am so excited for you to meet Ellie. She has blessed our lives so much in the 3 years since we’ve known her, and I know you will be blessed today as she shares her heart. I know so many of you are facing some big changes in your family, just like I am. I found her insights so helpful, and I know you will as well!

I pray today’s episode will encourage your heart as you navigate the toughest job you’ll ever love. Motherhood.

I recently started reading the book, “Praying the Scriptures for Your Adult Children” by Jodie Berndt, and in only 5 chapters in, I am LOVING it. (I highly recommend it.) I’m reading it slowly and soaking in all the verses she shares to pray for our kids. One of the things she mentions is praying for our kids BEFORE a crisis, instead of as a last resort. That statement hit me like a tin of bricks. We should be praying about friends, drug or alcohol abuse, their jobs, careers, relationships, etc, BEFORE they even enter this stage. If you haven’t? It is NEVER too late. EVER.

I think this idea can be used in regards to ourselves, our kids, and our husbands. We need to be in constant prayer. Washing dishes? Pray. Swimming with the kids? Pray. I love being in a constant conversation with God every day. We need Him for everything. We should be going to Him with everything.

Another great resource are books by Stormiest Omartian. She has some amazing books on praying for our husbands and our kids.

It’s a short and sweet episode, but jam packed with truth.  Now get praying!

My husband has a couple days a week off from work, so one of the days I use to rest up, and one I throw on my walking shoes and go for a walk by myself. by myself time doesn’t happen too frequently, so when I am alone with my thoughts, I REALLY think. This episode is during one of those such times.

There are a lot of changes going on in my family, a lot of dreams being dreamed, a lot of stages being gone through…and sometimes we just need a good cry, am I right? As I was walking today, I got to thinking about all the stages and phases of life…especially the ones we go through with our kids. A lot of motherhood is letting our kids go…and putting it frankly? It sucks. I remember the 1st day my oldest started kindergarten, I felt sick all day. I was not his only influence, and it hurt. Now as I prepare to share every big moment in his life with someone else, I’m having to learn how to take a backseat. A place I’ve never been, and one I’m not very fond of. Are you there too?

Go throw on your walking shoes and join me as I share some of my thoughts (and tears) with you. We are in this together. People talk about the baby stage. Complain about potty training and prep you for being a chauffeur. What they don’t (and maybe can’t?) prep you for is the constant saying goodbye…and that stupid backseat.

I pray today’s episode will encourage your heart as you navigate the toughest job you’ll ever love. Motherhood.

Oh my goodness you guys, I cannot believe you and I have made it to episode 100 together. When I first started thinking about starting a podcast and began my research, I heard a few times that most people don’t make it to 100 episodes. So there is was. One of my 1st goals. Thank goodness I’m competitive because I was in it to win it. And as you can tell from this episode where the “boys tell all”, I am never at a loss for content.

We are constantly growing. We are constantly learning. We are constantly changing.
I am so thankful for the 5 boys God has blessed me with. I am so thankful for each lesson I have learned and while the “failures” hurt, I am thankful for them because each one made me better. Each one gave me a story and lesson to share with you.

I was actually shocked at some of the things my boys said and talked about. Some of the things I was not as they remind me of them weekly. When this episode starts, the boys are arguing about how long it took us to push play, so I pushed play without them knowing. My life.

At the end I share a few clips of when we first got a microphone and I started telling myself this was going to be for real. That was a year ago. And here we are today.

Keep sharing so others can be blessed by God’s words speaking through me.
Keep adding reviews so that this podcast is seen by many more!
God is working, friends.
He’s changing me.
He’s changing my boys.
He’s using our story to encourage you and to let you know that you are doing a great job.

Thank you to my 5 boys…Caleb, Jake, Corban, James, and Cash for daily giving me content and grace. Thank you to my husband, A.J., for daily encouraging me. Thank You to God for giving me the gift of gab and speaking through me with each episode. Thank you to YOU, my friends and my listeners, for encouraging me, praying for me, sharing episodes, and learning right with me. I love you all.

Here’s to another 100!!

I pray today’s episode will encourage your heart as you navigate the toughest job you’ll ever love. Motherhood.

You guys!!! Do you see the number of this episode?? NINETY - NINE!!! Do you know what that means?? My next episode is episode ONE HUNDRED and most people who start out with great intentions for a podcast, never make it to 100!! WHAAAT??? We did it!! WooHoo!! Now on to TWO HUNDRED!!!

I believe I’ve talked about this book before, but I can’t help it. It’s so good and I’rave read it multiple times! John C. Maxwell’s book, “The 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth” is powerful. I have so many pages with sticky tabs on them so I can keep going back to revisit all I keep learning. And I love learning! Sometimes its tough. Sometimes it hurts. Those times of learning aren’t fun at all (until they’re over!) but when God speaks through an author, a devotional, His Word, a podcast, etc…those times are fun!

As I was reading and marking off pages, I knew this chapter was not only for me, but you too. I think I touch on 8 or 9 steps he mentions in his book. Maybe you already do a few of them. Awesome! You’re a step ahead! Maybe a few stand out to you. Awesome. Write them down. Every day. In your journal. On a notecard you carry around. Ask a friend for accountability. Whatever you choose, don’t walk away from this episode without picking one thing you can start working on…TODAY. Right now.

and as I close, remember to pick a word. A word that you can focus on right now. A positive word that keeps you moving forward.

I pray today’s episode will encourage your heart as you navigate the toughest job you’ll ever love. Motherhood.

Most of the times we learn through what others have gone through. Things they have overcome and have so many things they learned through the process. We can then take those things and be better moms. Better wives. Better women. That is not always the case, though.

There are other times we hear what someone is going through in real time, and we are encouraged because we are not alone. We realize that even when we “do everything right”, things aren’t guaranteed to go perfectly. We can do everything right ion our marriage, but we may still end up with a divorce. We can do everything right for our children, and our children can still go astray. None of that means we aren’t good enough. None of that means we messed up somehow and we’re bad moms, bad wives. Sometimes it just doesn’t work out as we planned or dreamed and we don’t have all the answers to make it better.

That is what is going on with today’s guest. She candidly shares what she is going through right now, and how she doesn’t have all the answers. We talk through some things she needs to remember, and things you need to remember. We are reminded that talking about our struggles can be helpful.

Our verse for the day is found in Matthew 6:34 - “ Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble on its own.”

If your are going through a tough time, then this is the episode for you. Listen. Be encouraged. Share it with a friend.

I pray today’s episode will encourage your heart as you navigate the toughest job you’ll ever love. Motherhood.

My boys are seriously amazing travelers. I guess by boy 5, I’ve learned a lot through trial and error. Not every trip we’ve taken over the years has been bliss, but that’s where I learn the best…when I mess up and don’t want to do that again haha!

I know I’ve shared this episode before, but as the boys and I are traveling a lot over the next few months, I thought it beneficial to all of us to revisit this topic.
Do you love to travel?
Honestly, a lot of these tips I use when it’s just my hubby and I, or even remind my older boys when they travel without me. (Corban flew to Florida a week ago and I can’t tell you how happy I was when I saw he’d made a LIST!!)

I’d love to know any other tips and tricks you’ve found helpful with your kids!

Do you allow yourself to rest? To breathe? To let go of the baggage you carry around every day? I wish I could say it was easy for me, but this past week I realized that I cling to it, and I mean I wear it like a badge of honor. But it’s a badge of honor I need to release. And so do you my friend.

This weekend I challenge you to take some time to breathe.
I challenge you to sit in silence.
I challenge you to forget your to-do list and all the things that “have” to get done right now.
They’ll all be there tomorrow.

This was something that took me a bit to figure out. I don’t always get it right, but knowing that I AM the Mom and sometimes need to make tough decisions for my boys is getting easier. When I know that I have their best interests at heart. When I have sought the counsel of God and others. When I have taken their future into consideration. Then, and only then can I make a decision on their behalf. Again, it’s not going to be easy. We may not always get it right. But we will all be better for it.

So tune in and hear some examples of when I’ve pulled my Mom Card, and when I’ve tucked it away. Stay strong Mama’s!!

This past year was tough on all of us. But we are Relentless. We persevered. We pushed through and now that summer is upon us, we can take a second to breathe and look back. I don’t want us to look back on all the ways we think we “failed”. I want us to look back on all the ways we’ve grown. On all the things we’ve learned along the way. I was out on a walk and started thinking about all the things my first year of hope schooling taught me. I learned so much through trial and error, and from others.

Today I share 12 things I’ve learned this school year, and how it’s made me a better person. A better mom. A better friend.

Here are a few:
1. Nothing is going to be perfect
2. Schedules and planning are great, but we have to keep an open mind and be flexible
3. Learning is important, but relationships are more important
4. If it’s not working? Change it. and keep changing it till you find your groove
5. MOVE. Every day
6. Ask for help and/or advice…but ultimately do what’s best for you and your family
And 6 more!

It was fun to look back and see how I’ve grown! I challenge you to take some time and do that today for yourself too! I’d love to hear!

I pray today’s episode will encourage your heart as you navigate the toughest job you’ll ever love. Motherhood.

Our Friday episodes are straight up fire. What a blessing and honor it has been to be able to interview such amazing women who are willing to share their stories and their pain with all of us, so that we can learn and be encouraged! I know the Friday episodes are long, so hit play and pause and come back when you can. These stories are important and I don’t want to leave anything out, but I also want an easy option for sharing with others.

I want to encourage all of us to listen to every story, even if it’s a pain point we have never experienced. Even if their story is one we have never experienced, who knows who God will bring into our lives? Who knows the knowledge and empathy we can receive from listening to each story? Who knows who you could run into who needs to have this shared with them? Share away!

If you are someone who has experienced this. Don’t go it alone. Reach out to Amber, and lets get a support group up and running and growing! Your pain is important. Your pain needs to feel noticed. You need to feel loved. We love you. This community. Amber and I. And so many others. Most importantly, GOD loves you. God sees your pain. God wants to offer His comfort. If you would like to know more about God and His ultimate comfort, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Here is Amber’s email:

She is just a message away.

I pray that today’s episode will encourage your heart as you navigate the toughest job you’ll ever love. Motherhood.

As many of you have seen, my oldest son recently proposed to his girlfriend. He had the day planned out perfectly for her and honestly, I was so proud and a bit shocked at all the thought he put in to the details. I jokingly asked if he’d paid attention to when his uncle recently proposed, and his reply actually shocked me...and ended up being the thought behind today’s episode.

So often we talk to our kids and feel like they aren’t paying attention at all. Same for you, right? PLEASE say it’s not just me! But here’s a little secret. Lean in so I can whisper it to you because we don’t want our kids knowing that we know. Here goes...they actually ARE listening!

Tune in to today’s episode and here a quick Mom Tip on something I learned about our kids.
They’ve been fooling us for years!! I pray that today’s episode will encourage your heart as you navigate the toughest job you’ll ever love. Motherhood.

Love always,

I know we all love recording our kids because one day we can look back and hear how tiny and little their voices were. I love the ways Cash pronounces some of his words and sounds, and while I know one day we’ll need to work on the correct pronunciation, today is just not that day.

What today IS though, is Cash’s 6th birthday. I love reflecting on each of my boys birth days and what led up to them, what I went through, and what each one has taught me. Cash’s is no different. He is our rainbow baby. 2 babies went to heaven before him, so honestly, my pregnancy with him was filled with some fear. No matter how hard I tried, it was always there in the back of mind.

So tune in and hear some of my weird cravings, some things Cash has going on in his life, a few of his favorite Bible verses, and what I know I learned, as I reflect on my pregnancy with Cash.
This is the last of our birthday episodes for this year, so thank you for letting me share the stories of each one of my boys. I would love to hear some of the birth stories of your kids! Send me an email or message and I’d love to share some of them in an episode!

I pray that today’s episode will encourage your heart as you navigate the toughest job you’ll ever love. Motherhood.

Love always,

Adrianne

Buckle up for today’s episode because it is AMAZING. I suggest you grab a notebook and pen for some major note taking because today’s guest shares SO much learning!

Esther Aikey and her husband Justin, are the founders of a non-profit “Baby Beats” (link below). They started this after their oldest son was born with a heart condition called CHD 11 years ago. Today she shares the story of when they ere told the news and condition of his heart while she was pregnant, and everything they went through afterwards. Esther shares not only her story, but about 10 takeaways of things she has learned through her experience, and since then. I sat through the interview, but had to go back after and listen to it all over again because this episode was just FULL of encouragement!

One quote she says has stayed with me...”we focused on what we knew and everything else was wasted energy” (minute 15:58). Wow! What truth that is! No matter what you are going through, don’t let your energy be wasted on things that don’t matter!

She also touches on “why her?” “Why her son?” And her answers for that. Grab a notebook and pen and get ready to be encouraged and inspired. Thank you so much Esther!

We also talk about the science devotional “Indescribable” that I read to my boys.
Esther also shares the words to the song, “Take Courage” by Kristene DiMarco. I highly recommend you go listen. It’s beautiful. I’m listening to it as I write to you. Stay strong, Mama. Stay strong, friend. We may not understand God and His ways, but “He is there in our waiting and never failing”.

I’ve said this before (and I’ll probably say it a ton times more), but we each have a story, and so do our children. Each of my boys came into this world in such different ways, their birth stories and everything leading up to them are all different, and the things they have taught me along the way are vastly different, but so significant.

Jake and I are probably the most opposite. I know you have that child. The one who struggles to understand you and your love for them, and the one that you struggle in understanding. Everything you do with them and for them seems to be wrong and at the end of most days your re left in tears. How can you fail so badly in showing them love? How do they not see?? It’s not that your re messing up. It’s that each of our kids give and receive love in different ways, and Jake has taught me so much (and continues to do so) on how I need to open my eyes to the differences in my children. He has shown me how I tried to put him in a box and be like others, and he has broken that box wide open time and again.

Whether you have a child like this or not, this episode is for you. The love between a mother and her son, her child, runs deep. My prayer for you today, is that you look at each of your children differently to see how they are needing you to love them. They may be difficult or struggling. Don’t give upon them. EVER.

I love you more than words, Jake, and I thank God for you every single day. I pray you know I love you, but more importantly that God loves you and has a plan for you. He created you FOR a purpose, ON purpose. Happy Birthday. Love always, Mom

Thank you so much for joining us agin today to hear the rest of Megan’s amazing story of God’s peace and Megan’s surrender. God doesn’t promise all “happy endings”, but He does promise He’ll provide peace in whatever the outcome is.

Megan and I talk about Exodus chapters 3 and 4 and highly recommend you check out the passage in the Bible where God is in relationship with Moses. God desires to be in relationship with each and every one of us! If you would like more information on that, Megan and I would be more than happy to talk more about this with you.

Infertility is a story that is difficult to talk about, let alone go through it alone. As we talked about yesterday, please make sure you ask for help and find a community of women who can walk alongside you. Megan would love to hear from you and chat with you more too. Just email her at meganlynfrump@gmail.com

The theme for today and this whole story is God’s faithfulness, and God’s peace.

The book Megan referenced is “Experiencing God” and I am excited to check it out!

Thank you again, Megan, for sharing your story. Thank you for sharing your love for God, your surrender to Him, and your passion for helping and serving others.

Love always,
Adrianne

We are never promised that every part of our story will be easy. I know what we ARE promised though...that we are never alone, and God is always in control.

I have been looking forward to today’s guest and having the opportunity to share her story with all of you. Infertility is such a silent painful battle that so many face. It’s one that leaves us feeling less than, that we aren’t good enough, our bodies aren’t working right and doing what they should be doing. It’s emotionally and physically painful and draining.

One thing that Megan shares today is you should never go through it alone. No matter what struggle you are facing, find another like you. There are so many good and well meaning people, but when you aren’t going through what someone else is facing, it’s tough feeling what someone else is, and it’s difficult to know what to say at times. So please find someone who can share in your pain. Find someone who understands the depth of your pain. Megan has graciously offered not only her story today, but also a listening ear to you. If you or someone you know is struggling with infertility, Megan would love to be there for you.
You can reach Megan Frump at meganlynfrump@gmail.com

And don’t forget to check back here tomorrow to hear the ending to Megan’s “My Sweet Surrender” story. Thank you so much, Megan, for opening up to all of us, sharing not only your heart, but your love for God.

Love always,
Adrianne

EEK! I know this can be a touchy subject and pretty uncomfortable to talk about with our kids. I know it’s always a struggle for me, but let me just say that if WE aren’t talking to our kids about sex, then who will? Who will share with them God’s design? Who will answer their questions? If not you, Mama? Then who? The alternative is a bit scary.

Today I share some of my experiences with having the “sex talk” with my boys. I haven’t always handled it correctly. I haven’t always done it perfectly. I’ve even made mistakes in my own life concerning sex and felt I was never qualified to be a role model for my children, but mistakes or not, we have got to be the ones to talk to our children.

I started using the “God’s Design for Sex” series by Carolyn Nysrtom, and I am loving it. We have completed the ages 3-5 and 5-8 year old books and even James has learned from them. James and I will be moving onto the next age group book, so wish me luck!

We got this!

2 Corinthians 4:8
“We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not crushed.”

I read that verse to my boys during our morning devotions, and it really struck me. We have days, weeks, and even months, where we feel we just can’t just catch a break! It’s just one thing after another, and seriously, COME ON! Ever felt like that? Feel like that now?
I hear you. I’ve been there, and lately I feel like I am having to pay more attention to the blessings and positive things in my life or I’ll fall into a pattern of “everything is bad all the time”.

The good news though, is we are always being made stronger, even when we feel we’re at our weakest.
We are never left to fend for ourselves, even when we feel we are all alone.

So if you are in need of some encouragement, I share our daily devotion that encouraged me. If you have kids that you’d like to start doing a simple daily devotions with, I highly recommend “Indescribable” by Louie Giglio. It has fun science facts that are always pointed to God, with some daily encouragement. So get ready to be encouraged to shine bright like a diamond today.

Well this is an episode you won’t want to miss.

The other day I asked a couple of my boys if they had any Mom Tips I could share...things I did well over the years, or things that weren’t too helpful that you should know about. Well of course the Sour Milk story came up (check one of my newer Mom Tip episodes) and then Corban said discipline should be a Mom Tip.

Like WHAT, Corban? You want me to have a mom tip on discipline?? You mean to not do it, right? And then he proceeded to tell me how discipline has helped him be a better human! Seriously you guys? My mind was blown.

So of course I had to have him on the show and share his thoughts on this! I could talk for days on it, but couldn’t we all learn so much from hearing it right from one of our own kids mouths? And let me tell you. I didn’t expect him to be so eloquent with his thoughts on it! I mean, he is the son of the “Gift of Gab”, but I learned a thing or 2 during this interview and it was honestly so encouraging to hear him speak on this topic.

So grab a cup of coffee.
Put those earbuds in.
And get ready to be encouraged.
Better yet? Have your kids sit and listen with you, then talk about it after and get their thoughts on the topic. You may just be surprised. But let me encourage you. If you are in the thick of it and feeling like you’re doing NOTHING but disciplining?? It DOES get better.

Love always,

Today’s mom tip was actually going to be something different. Before I started recording, I asked a couple of my boys what they recommend as a mom tip. What was something I did well as a mom that they appreciated? Or what was something I could have done better that I should share with others (they all mentioned the milk episode ugh).

As I started talking, my thoughts quickly headed in a different direction (as they usually do) and I went with it. Sometimes God just takes over you guys!

So just as the title says, let’s talk about following through with what we say to our kids. You say you’re going to take a privilege away if they don’t listen? Then make sure you do it! BUT. I know we also need to step up our game of positivity.

This episode gives me a great idea for my next episode, so make sure you turn into episode 84 for a special and fun guest!!

I used to think that growing happened when you were in class or church and heard a great speaker. But I learned over time that God can teach us ANY time, ANY where and using ANY one. God can even use me reading a daily bible story to my 5 year old to teach me...and He has. He did this past week, actually.

A simple Bible story spoke volumes to me. God spoke to me that I need to believe in His miracles and even more than that, I need to Ask Him for specific things. We don’t have, because we don’t ask. We need to believe that the God of yesterday, is the God of today. We need to stop rushing through life and stop and enjoy everything He has given us.

When you feel that God is not answering prayer. When you feel that God isn’t doing miracles today. I challenge you to stop. I challenge you to stop and actually pay attention. When you feel like God isn’t doing anything for you? I challenge you to stop and think if you actually are talking to Him, asking Him, believing in Him.

A simple story of Moses changed my prayers. We just need to pay more attention.

This tip can (should) be used on anyone, really. I mean, think about when you are talking and telling someone a story that means something to you. It may not be an important part of their life, but it’s important to you and you’re excited to share it.
That’s how it is with your kids too. They may be excited to tell you about the latest song (how CAN they listen to that stuff?!), or their favorite video game (ugh), and while it may not be something we enjoy (in the least), it’s important to them and should be important to us!

So the next time your kids (I’m included in this) want to share a story with us, let’s give them our full attention and treat them how we want to be treated and how we want someone (or them?) to listen to us the next time.  (And we wonder why they never listen when we talk or ask them to do something? Let’s take a look in the mirror first, friends). Just sayin...

I know we have ALL had “one of those days”, where EV-ER-Y thing goes wrong and it’s all we can do to keep it together and not lose our minds!

Construction. Roads Closed. Machines breaking. Long wait times. Stores out of just the things you need. Late for everything.
I dread these days.

But the funny part about it now is that I try to find something to talk to you about every time it happens! Haha. So when I had one of those “terrible horrible no good very bad days”, last week, I KNEW God was teaching me something. I knew He wanted me to keep my eyes open. I knew there was something going on that I could share with you. (He wanted me to learn some things for myself too, of course.)

As my boys and I were driving, I even said, “I want to lose my mind right now, but God has something for us.” Every moment can be a teachable moment for not only ourselves, but our kids too! They are watching us. They are learning from us. Whether we like it or not.

So give a quick listen and know that even when your days are bad. Even when everything goes wrong. God is ALWAYS for us and we can always learn and get through it.
Love always,
Adrianne

Thank you so much for coming back today to hear the rest of Jessica’s story, and to be reminded that even when we feel at a loss, God is ALWAYS there. I don’t know what your story is. I don’t know if you are a mom. I don’t know what your birth story is, if you are a mom. None of our stories are the same, but we all have a story to share and we need to be confident that God is ALWAYS walking with us during everything. We may feel alone. We may feel helpless or hopeless. We may feel like it’s not fair.

I don’t know what you are facing or what you are going through, but what I do know, and what Jessica so eloquently says, God is always faithful. Choose to believe, even when it seems impossible. I love you my friend.

And thank you to Jessica Little for sharing her story with us!

My goal is to bring you short and quick episodes that are jam packed with encouragement and information. I love sharing my story and everything I have learned over the years, and all the things I’m continuing to learn. Part of that is bringing others on to share parts of their stories. None of our stories are the same. God doesn’t allow us to go through things and to learn and grow, just to keep it to ourselves. None of our pain and struggle is for naught. It’s to grow, and it’s to help others.

There was so much information, encouragement, ups and downs in today’s story, that I knew we needed to have 2 parts to it. Today ends on a bit of a cliffhanger, so make sure you come back tomorrow.

I am so thankful for Jessica and her willingness to share the tough parts of her life. We may all be moms, but how we became moms are not the same. I pray that if you are struggling, today encourages you a whole heck of a lot like it did me!

Ugh you guys. I don’t know why it takes me SO long to learn things! I should’ve known this forever ago, and maybe at times it’s come and gone, but it hit me this past week.
Instead of expecting my boys, (or even my husband!) to just know things, or do things? How about I actually lay it out. How many times have you gotten mad, slamming cupboards, etc, when we expected something in our heads, we didn’t speak them out loud, no one does it...and then we blow up?
This canNOT be just me.
Sadly, I do this often, and It. Helps. No one. I make everyone feel like crap. I feel like crap. And my home is not a safe haven.
Then the other day I let the boys know that I would appreciate them cleaning up the dishes after dinner...and guess what??! They said OK! What??! Mind. Blown.
So take that tip and a couple others and turn your home into an amazing safe haven for your family! Well, if we use this tip and other things we learn along the way.

Love you always,
Adrianne

I believe that all mothers want to shelter their kids from hurt. We know that growth happens from pain, but watching our kids struggle, hurt, face disappointment and discouragement is TOUGH! And it never gets easier. As I sit here, I can immediately start remembering different moments from my boys lives where they were hurting...and I hurt right alongside them.

As I work through some of those situations today, I come up with 5-6 tips that can help us help them. I’m going to give you a hint as to where to start though. Here it is...WITH YOU. Our kids may pretend to listen to what we say, but when it comes down to it, they are watching and they are mimicking our moves, our moods, and our take on things. That’s kind of scary. How are we facing tough situations? How are we feeling about ourselves when we go through disappointment? How we deal? They deal. Why do you think I focus on self care and positive thoughts so much?? Because their attitudes begin with ME. The way my house runs each day begins with ME. It begins with you. So lets begin. Let’s begin with ourselves, and then move on to the other tips I share on how to best encourage our kids during difficult times.

I couldn’t help but share a couple more stories of my life. So many of you loved my blind date story that now I wish I had more of those to share! But I think I scared the blind date guys away haha.
I feel like we can have an amazing story out of even what seems like everyday stories. Even when we feel no direction, God is always there. Even when we are faced with 2 situations and feel no leading towards either, God is still working. Whether it was a job change for my husband or a woman jumping on my car (go listen to hear deets on THIS story!), God is always leading and guiding. We may need to run. We may need to get away. We may need to take a step back or just jump right in, but no matter what, we need to CHOOSE to BELIEVE that God has a plan.
We also need to trust our gut! How often do we feel a decision in our gut but second guess ourselves? CHOOSE to BELIEVE in yourself too!
I believe that as women, and as moms, we “just know”, you know what I mean? Yes you do. We just have this gut feeling and we need to go with it more.
So trust God. Trust the gut He gave you. And trust that you are always being led, even when you don’t feel it.
Love you always,
Adrianne

Ok, so it may be a silly phrase to use, but it’s truth...and it got your attention, right?
This concept has taken me years to get going on and honestly there are days I still struggle. But. If we are constantly worried about what everyone else is doing or what they may say, then how are we being the best mom or even best version of us?? (That was one long sentence but I spoke it really fast, so it’s ok.)

I was so afraid to be a great mom to my boys because I never felt like I was doing a good job and always had to take the advice of others, or even be afraid because of what someone MIGHT say. I know social media has turned everyone into an expert and created some outspoken people...but we have GOT to do what’s best for us! For our kids! Aren’t you more miserable trying to follow the crowd instead of doing what’s best in your home?? I know it’s exhausting.

So Boo? You do you and stop living in fear. K?

Oh boy, hot topic alert here. I had an argument with one of my boys last week and it wrecked me for a time. I’ve hit record a few different times and have either stopped in the middle, or ended up deleting it. I’m not even sure why. I couldn’t get the words out? I couldn’t say it all out loud? I was embarrassed? I felt like the worst mom? So many emotions. And boy did I have some work to do.

Sound familiar? I know you’ve been there. That’s why I knew I had to share my ups AND downs to let you know you aren’t alone. We are going to have times in our lives where people say things that hit our deepest hurts. They will punch us in the gut and we will believe them...for a time. Then we need to work through it and stop believing it!

Our kids may say we suck. Our kids know how to hurt us. It may be an ex. It may be a “friend”. Who knows and who cares. It all hurts. But we have GOT to remember and tell ourselves over and over that we were created on purpose for a purpose.  I took me a minute, but I worked through it. The words still hang there sometimes, but I don’t hang on to them. I pray that by me sharing a tough time, that your re encouraged that you are not alone and you are an AMAZING mom. I believe in you.

You do not want to miss today’s episode and you DO want to share this with your friends. I catch up on some stories I’ve been meaning to share and with that always comes some amazing encouragement for you. I love taking the every day stories of our lives, stories with our kids, stories with our husbands, stories with our friends, and stories with just us, and use them to learn. We aren’t just coasting through life. We are constantly learning. Some days we learn from our mistakes, while some days we learn from our triumphs.

Typically if I stumble over words, or say stupid things (and I do that quite frequently my friends), I will delete an episode and start all over, or just put it away all together. Not today. Today I decided to just let it play and see where it takes us. So come laugh with me. Come cringe with me. Come let your day be encouraged and your life be touched with the knowledge that you aren’t so bad after all. And if anyone tells you different? Girl, Bye.

There are so many ways that you can react to your kids. Short story books, series, even listening to books! I have been reading to all of my boys for years (funny story how that started), and I don’t regret one single second of it. It’s almost like starting a workout...it’s tough to get up and get going, but you never regret once you’re done Same with reading!

Whether you enjoy reading or not, you can do this!!

Maybe we’ll do an episode where we share some of our favorites! Do you have any favorite books you’ve read to your kids?? I’d love to hear!

I love chatting with others about their goals and having them check in with me too. The only thing I don’t like is when life hits hard and we feel guilty when we’ve had an off week. There is not supposed to be guilt in goals! I was talking with a friend (my sister haha) were talking about this very thing and it made me sad because we feel we have to make sure others know how hard we are trying and don’t want them to think we aren’t doing anything.

Do you ever feel like this? Someone asks you how a new goal is going and you immediately feel like a loser because you haven’t been crushing it like you’d hoped. We need to get rid of the guilt. Once we let the guilt take over, we are more apt to quit the goal altogether!

Set goals. Get accountability. Get rid of the guilt.
Thank you to Angeline for being the inspiration for today’s episode and showing me how to better achieve goals! Whether you are working on time management, a weight loss goal, spending more time with your kids or spouse, spending more time on self care, a monetary goal...get to work and don’t give up!

Today’s episode may sound a little different in sound and no opening or closing. We are facing some technical difficulties, but still wanted to share some thoughts! Nothing is going to stop what God is doing. He is working in all our lives in different ways, and I pray that He speaks through me to encourage you today!

As I was reading my Bible this morning, I came across a passage that spoke to me about rest and when we feel like we just can’t do it anymore. When we feel overwhelmed, bogged down, and burnt out. What does that mean and what can we do about it?

We’re busy, I get it. As moms and wives, we have so many things on our plates, but even Jesus took times to rest and sit in quiet. I would love to know your thoughts on this and what you do in moments of overwhelm.

We all know we need to drink more water. But do we? Do we choose water over pop (soda?), juice, etc? (Don’t you dare even put coffee in this group. It doesn’t count.) Anyway, ok so you are working on it for your own life...but what about your kids? Shouldn’t they be drinking more water to be healthier too? Or do you feel it’s too far gone and not worth the fight? It’s never too far gone, and it’s always worth the fight. I don’t care how old your kids are, start now. I have some easy hacks today that are good, not only for you, but the kids too.

And go drink water. Right now.

I begin today’s episode by starting to share a story about my 1st (and only) blind date, then all of a sudden I get sidetracked and God switches gears. I don’t know why He led us here today, but here we are.
Maybe I needed to get some passionate feelings out and maybe you needed to hear them. Maybe you have a friend going through this and you need to know how she’s feeling and maybe you just need to share this with her.
Maybe you’ve been told you weren’t good enough. Maybe actions have spoken louder than words in your life and you’re left feeling useless and broken.
Maybe you’re a mom. Maybe you’re not.
Maybe you’re a wife. Maybe not.

There are a lot of if’s and maybe’s today but when all is said and done, we’ve all been hurt in a deep way and sometimes no matter how hard we try, we just can’t fight the feelings of never being good enough, or “how did I get here?” I’ve been there. These feelings are valid. But they aren’t forever.

So buckle up buttercup and get ready to have your pants knocked off by all the encouragement I give you today. I can’t go back and listen right now because I know I’ll just delete and record something else, so there will be flaws. But that’s life. And instead of hiding it, let’s embrace it and move forward like the Relentless Warriors we are!!

I sit down to record, with a topic in mind, then I hit play and I don’t know what happens. It’s like you are really there with me and I just lose myself in telling you all the stories! Thank you my friend, for listening to me. I mean, I think my stories are actually kind of funny, but maybe they enrich your life in some way? Ok maybe enrich isn’t the correct word, but you laughed, right? So there’s that. We need more laughter in our lives.

I also chat about goals and how they can be used correctly, but also how they can deter us from being better today than we were yesterday. So let’s set some goals, guilt-free, and move forward in all the areas of our lives!

We got this!!

I’ve received so many messages about episode 64 already, that I knew with 100% certainty what today’s Mom (or not) Tip had to be!
Life is crazy. We don’t have all the answers 100% of the time. We need help. We need to vent.
And that is ok!! It is ok to not be ok my friend!!
Reach out. Don’t carry the burden, the unknown, the questions or sadness alone!
We are all in this together and we need each other!
I love you.
You are relentless.
You’re a warrior.
Don’t you forget it.

I suggest you put on your walking shoes and go outside or hop on the treadmill while you listen to today’s episode.

I needed to get out of the house by myself for a good cry, and while out there, I knew I needed to talk to you. The sound isn’t the best, my words aren’t always perfect...but it’s real life.
I’m struggling. And I’m struggling with my struggling. I’m in a vicious cycle and I have a feeling you are as well. While we may not have clear answers at the moment, or even get an answer to our “Why, God?” Later on, we do know that we are heard. Oh it doesn’t feel like it some days (that’s me right now), but we have to keep moving forward.

So get on your shoes, get moving, and push play.
Let’s share our hearts together!

This is a topic that hits pretty close to home for me, as I know it does for a few of you as well. When thinking about what to say, a few things immediately came to my mind...the 1st being, how many of us struggle with the thoughts of, “what did I do wrong?” And this could be in our own lives, or in the lives of our children. Did we pray enough? I shouldn’t be feeling this way. I just need to talk myself out of it. It gets exhausting trying to live that way.

There is so much more we can explore and talk about later on this topic, but today I wanted to share a few things that we have done and made priorities in our home to try and stay in front of these feelings. We try to stay more aware now. We don’t judge when others struggle. We know it’s real.

I pray you find some comfort in today’s chat. I pray you know you are enough.
Share this episode with a friend who may be struggling in her own life, or if this is an issue in the lives of one of her children. We are not hopeless or helpless. And if you need further help, please don’t hesitate to reach out to a therapist or someone to talk to. There is no shame in that at all.

You are enough.
You are relentless.
You can overcome.

My audio is off today because I’m not in my typical spot, but I just had some things heavy on my heart that I knew we all needed to hear.
We all have things we are going though or struggling with. We all have tough times. We all feel guilt.

Today we need to let them go. Today we need to drop the bags of guilt that are heavy on our shoulders and live free. It doesn’t change the situation. It doesn’t make it any less painful. It just fills us with more comfort and peace to get through it.

Whether you are struggling in your marriage or relationship. Whether you are a mom with difficult kids or kids battling disease or sickness. This is meant for you. This is meant for me. Let’s live free today.

Sharing my sons story is filled with so many lessons for us in our day to day lives.
Are our sins too big that we can never be forgiven? Have we “messed up” God’s plan?
Can we still be used?
Is God shocked by our actions?

I answer these questions today using my own life experience with getting pregnant before I was married, while still in college and a leader on campus. When we feel like life is over, God says, “oh no, My child, this is just the beginning.”
God wants us to live life to the fullest.
He reminds us that we are fearfully and wonderfully made.
We are ALL created on purpose for a purpose, for such a time as this.

I am celebrating the birth of my 1st son today and while I celebrate the miracle that he is, I also celebrate the blessings of God and how He never turns His back, but wants us to love the life He has given EACH of us.

Happy Birthday, my dear son. I pray you know you are loved. You are here on purpose for a purpose and you were fearfully and wonderfully made.

I would love to connect with you through my social media platforms or email. I’d love to hear your thoughts on today’s episode and any episode really! I’d love to know any topics you’d love to hear as well.
Blessings to you my dear friend. Live life to the fullest.

How are you at accepting compliments? How are you at giving compliments to your kids? To your husband? To yourself? We’re often quick to point out what others need to work on, what we need to work on and everything we fail at...but when it comes to all the things we love about ourselves? That’s a whole different story isn’t it?

I’d love for all of us to work on something starting today. Tune in with an open mind. Think of yourself, it’s always got to begin with us. Then think of your kids, your husband, and others you spend time with. What can we do different in attacking our days and spreading love and confidence?  And what about all those negative compliments that people pass off as jokes? They stick, don’t they? I recently had a dentist tell me I had crooked teeth I should think about fixing. Uuumm, I’m 44 years old and have always been told I had great teeth! What if I wouldn’t have been told I had great teeth most of my life? Would it have been bugging me? Probably.

I’d love to know your thoughts on this and let me know that you’re going to join me in this new commitment!

Ok mama’s...I know there has to be a few of you who have had your kid say a pretty colorful word. How do you react?
Or what about when they ask you what different body parts are called?
Do you run from the room crying?
Do you tell them to go ask their father?
Or do you look them in the eye and tell them, and make them feel safe?

I’ve had a few of my boys ask me about some colorful words from time to time, and the best advice I can give you today...is DO NOT ACT SHOCKED.

Listen in as I share some advice and stories around this subject, and above all just remember you are not alone. There are others who have faced this before you and are facing it now. The whole point of all of this is to remind us of that fact. To encourage us. And I guess above all, to learn to laugh through it.

I’d love to know if your kids have left you momentarily speechless with questions they’ve asked, or words they’ve shared. Let me know!!

Wait till you hear who our sponsor of the day is! (If I could insert a palm to the face emoji right here I would, just so you know.) Sometimes words come out of my mouth and I just can’t, or don’t really, stop them. Oops.

Today’s episode started out with the thought that I wanted to cover 2 things we need to start to work on and implement today, right now. Whether we are Moms or not, we need to be remembering these tips and thoughts each and every day. But then as I began to talk and share my heart, I realized there were 3 things. These are things that I have been catching myself doing in the negative way, and it affects our thoughts! When we look for the negative, we’ll always find it. Can the opposite be true? When we look for the positive and the good we’ll find it?? Let’s give it a try this week!

As always, remember that we are “fearfully and wonderfully made”. We are no accident. Our kids are no accidents, and we are ALL created FOR a purpose, ON purpose. I pray you feel loved today. I pray that if your heart has been broken, you can find healing. I pray you accept a compliment and know you are beautiful, amazing...and relentless in all you do.

I’ve been sitting here thinking about which topic I wanted to chat with you about today (and oh I have many...my list of things to talk about is never ending haha), but what do we need to hear? What are we thinking that we don’t feel we are able to share with others because we feel silly? What things do we carry alone? Oh there’s a lot I’m sure.

WE’ve made it through a week. We’ve had some ups and downs. We’ve had some moments of tears and thinking, “seriously, I am so tired!” I’m with you. One minute I’m praising God and then the next I’m crying out asking Him where He is and why doesn’t He hear me?? You too?

Let’s encourage each other today so we can head into our weekends refreshed and excited about the week ahead and all it will bring.

If you’re going to be traveling with your kids at any point for the rest of your life, then you definitely need to listen...and share it with your other mama friends that could benefit too!

You’re doing great. Just wanted you to know. You’re an amazing mom. You’re an amazing woman. We don’t hear that entropy, do we? I know I don’t.

I know you will love today’s episode with my dear friend, Robin, just as much as I do!
Robin and I have been friends since high school, and while our paths after school didn’t cross for a while, I am so very thankful we reconnected.

Robin is married with 3 older children and 3 grandchildren, and she and her husband have dedicated their lives to tellIng others about God and His love. Her story is one of trusting God, even when we are so impatient for Him to answer right away. I know I am impatient for answers, but listening to Robin share how God closes doors, keeps some open, and wants us to be happy. We are created to live life to the fullest...we need to get to living it!

Robin also shares a book she’s reading right now, that I am so excited to order and get to reading.

You know those dally thoughts you have? The ones where you feel frustrated, discouraged, and want to complain.  You keep it all in because you feel silly. You’re life is blessed, so who are you to complain to feel down? But then on top of that, when those negative thoughts are running wild, then all of a sudden the comparison starts in. Everyone else is a better wife. Everyone else is a better mom. Everyone else is living their best life and here you are.

Is that you too? I thought so. Then this is the episode for you. And if you’re denying your feelings? This is the episode for you. Either way. This us the episode for you. And when you’re done listening and being encouraged? First drop a review so these episodes and more can keep coming. Then, go share this episode with the first friend that comes to your mind, because I guarantee...you are not the only one.

My husband is out running errands for me to help, but has already called numerous times, so the nap I was hoping for is not going to happen. He doesn’t call me during this episode, but I thought for sure he would!

Anyway, here is a quick mom tip that I can share with certainty because we have lived through it. I love these quick tips that I can share with you because they’re all real, they’re all things I may not have thought of while I was a young mom (or even sometimes now to be honest).

I’d love to know any of your quick mom tips too! Share them with me and I’ll give you a shout out and the recognition on one of our Wednesday Mom Tips!

I can’t tell you all how excited I was to be able to interview my long-term friend, Laurie Miller. We figured out we’ve been friends for 21 years! Wow!

Laurie has been married to her husband, Kevin, for 15 years and is a mother of 3...Bradley 12, Hunter 11, and Emma 10. She and her husband knew they wanted to save money and have more time as a family, so she decided to switch up how she planned her dinners. Sitting down to eat as a family was a top priority, so how could she maximize her time in planning, prepping, and getting meals on the table? You will be amazed how she transformed the way she viewed meals and I am hoping to be able to follow in her footsteps.

Since I try to keep time short for all of us, we couldn’t get into all the things we’d hoped for, so she will definitely be coming back to answer any questions you may have! I know once I start trying her way, I’m definitely going to be having some questions. Feel free to email or dm me and let me know what you thought of today’s episode, any questions you’d love to have us answer, or your thoughts on meal planning!

Get ready to be inspired!
Also! Below is a copy of the calendar I use for my monthly meal planning and grocery list. Just laminate and use every month!

Boy do I hope we all have opportunities to travel this year! And when we do, here are some AMAZING tips (if I do say so myself) that’ll help give you some peace of mind. I use these tips whether I’m traveling with my kids, or just me, so these will be sure to please everyone.

I love this topic because it starts with making lists, and I LOVE making lists and crossing things off, of course. I have been traveling with my boys for over 20 years now, so these are tried and true and traveling is something we absolutely love doing as a family. There are too many other things that get in our way in life, so lets try and make one thing as stress free as possible, shouldn’t we?

As always, share any tips you have found helpful over time, and I’d love to hear any other episode ideas you’d love to hear!

This is something I am so passionate about, and I’d love to have your accountability in getting back into this habit. I was consistent with this last year, and now it’s taking some work getting back into the habit, but the benefits FAR away the minor inconvenience of changing things around.

Whether you have one kid, or more, (Lord bless us all!), this is something that will help validate your kids feelings and their feelings of importance in your life.

Let’s keep each other accountable!

If you have someone on your heart, reach out to them. Call, text, message, email, I don’t care, just reach out. That’s my first tip.

Today’s episode is for so many of us. The mom whose kids just keep growing and becoming independent, and no longer “need” them. The woman who is feeling hurt and down and sad and can’t put a name as to why. The woman who feels someone else “has it worse”, so why should she be sad. The mom who is tired. Honestly. That’s all of us. Whether you are a mom or not is irrelevant. Our feelings are real and we need to acknowledge them.

I’d love to know your thoughts on today’s episode and even your thoughts on upcoming episodes. I want to dive deeper into the topic of mom’s feeling separation anxiety as our kids get older, so if you or someone you know has gone through this, reach out! We are in this community together. Learning from each other. Being real and feeling validated. No more being alone. No more carrying the weight of life alone.

Keep those positive reviews coming! They are so encouraging and they get the word out so more people can have the opportunity to listen, laugh, and be encouraged with us! If you are today’s gift card recipient, then make sure you reach out to me on one of the platforms below and I’ll get your gift card to you asap!

You may need a cup of coffee with today’s episode. I begin by sharing an inappropriate story and then who knows what happens next. I hop from story to story, so be ready to keep up! All of the stories are relevant to our lives though (or so I tell myself) because none of us are perfect. We’re never going to be “on point” 24/7 and instead of beating ourselves up, we need to learn to laugh at ourselves a little more. Enjoy life. Get over when we say stupid things. Take pictures of our kids shenanigans FIRST, then get upset. Oh! And drink a ton of water.

These and a few more stories and points will get you motivated on your fabulous Friday and help you laugh your way into the weekend.
Let’s go and enjoy our lives and our kids! (No matter how crazy it gets).

I’m going to start adding some “Mom Tips” every so often and today we’re going to kick it off with a story of when one of my boys was a baby with reflux. You know your baby. You need to stick up for yourself and your child because if you don’t advocate for them...who will?

I love sharing about all the things I’m learning each day, but I also want to add in things that I’ve learned over the years as a mom. If you’d like to have one of your amazing “Mom Tips” added each week, then make sure you send me a message and let me know! We need to all be sharing what we’ve learned over the years to help others!

How often do we start our days with the best of intentions, but then life sets in and we gladly make room for all the negative thoughts. We feel we’re the worst mom, the worst wife, the worst at everything. We let simple phrase such as, “You aren’t a great cook”, or “you can’t run fast”, etc to take over our thoughts and define who we think we are, and who we eventually become. We are consumed with all the things we don’t get accomplished each day, or with all the things we think we aren’t.

instead of being overtaken with all the negatives, lets start focusing on all we are, and all we become. We may not be it right now, but...

And as always, repeat...
I am relentless.
I am courageous.
I am creative.
I am beautiful.
I am enough.

If you think this is a metaphor for life, it is not. I really mean it. Keep your gas tank full. Well, now that I think about it, it could be a metaphor for our lives. Keep the gas tank of your life full by building into your life every single day. I don’t think I mentioned it during the episode, but it’s true.

Today is a story of a mom who doesn’t think. A mom who continues to go about her day and not really put much thought into certain things. She can’t help it. She’s got a lot going on! Even if she didn’t have a lot going on, she’d still not think. If you’re having a bad day, today’s episode will definitely encourage you, that your ren’t doing so bad after all.

And as always, repeat...
I am relentless.
I am courageous.
I am creative.
I am beautiful.
I am enough.

I recently finished the book, “40 Day Sugar Fast” by Wendy Speake, and in it she talks about the way we talk to ourselves...mainly the lies we constantly tell ourselves.

I do it all the time, and I am almost positive you do the same. We have got to learn to “take every thought captive” II Corinthians 10:4-5. If we are filling our minds and thoughts with all tings negative, how can we expect our own children to believe any positive thing we say to them??

Today. Replace the self sabotage with thoughts of “IAM”.
I am relentless.
I am courageous.
I am creative.
I am beautiful.
I am enough.

When my older boys were younger, I was so afraid to stick up for myself, or even them. I took everything everyone said and did it their way, even if it was not something I believed was best for my boys, or even wanted to do.

It took me years to come to terms with that, and to start saying, “thank you for your advice, but I’m going to do it my way.” We have family, friends, and oh boy social media can be a killer, can’t it? Everyone has their own way of doing things and most are not afraid to tell others how they should be as well.

You know you. You know your kid. You know your own heart and your gut. So go with it. Don’t let others take over the life you have been given.
Say thank you. And then move on in peace.

I remember when my older boys were little and during each stage, I longed for the next one because for SURE it would be easier, right? Oh boy was I ever wrong. Each stage comes with its own stresses, worries, and things to keep us busy and on our toes.

We can read every book on parenting and still not feel prepared. (I reference a book by Jennie Allen, “Nothing To Prove” on this topic).

We never feel enough as moms or women. We never feel appreciated. We can never live up to our own standards. But we seriously need to learn how to flip the script and learn to cherish and appreciate every stage we are in!

I am currently reading “The 40 - Day Sugar Fast” by Wendy Speake and she has some great words of wisdom that we can apply to our lives. Today, as I was reading, something struck me about sitting in silence with God and even with our families. There is so much to learn there! I know I am not one to sit in silence for very long, but I also know that is something I need to work on. Every day we are learning. Every day we have a mountain of things to do and think about. But. Every day we need to hear from God. He’s not our genie in a bottle answering our every whim. He is there to teach and guide us.

I thought it was intriguing to think about if we were more silent with our husbands and kids too. I mean, I think they would pass out of I said less and would instantly think I was mad haha. I want to try this and see what happens! You should too!

Isn’t it funny what we can learn from the simplest of things? It’s like when our children are learning. They don’t need big huge productions, but are learning in the every day, sometimes mundane, tasks. It’s great having those big learning moments that bring us to tears and all the chills, but we can also learn so much  in the quiet moments. How?? We need to always be looking for them, always be open to them, always be willing to stop our old way of thinking and know change can be good.

As moms and women, we get so busy and often walk right on by those quiet moments of truth. We don’t even see the thing right in front of us that can teach us because we’re so consumed with everything else.

I challenge you to take a moment and breathe. Stop. Look around. See what others may really be saying. See what is happening around you that can really teach you. I learned some great lessons this week in the most unexpected places, and I am forever grateful. You will be too.

This was a tough episode to record. It took me days to actually hit record and not because I feel guilty about any of it, but because I remember that girl. I remember the feelings of intense rejection. The feelings of embarrassment. The feelings of just wanting to die from the shame of it all. There were many dark nights, but never was I alone. I carried a heavy burden for a long time (and not just a big belly), but a heavy burden (of all the above mentioned).

The reason I decided to finally open up about what I went through and never shared with anyone before is because you may be feeling the same feelings. You may be carrying a burden of shame or rejection. I want you to feel hope. I want you to know you are seen and not forgotten. I want you to know that there are dark days, but there are ALWAYS blessings at the end. Hold on my friend.

One way I learn is by reading. I read the Bible and books by people who inspire. I listen to podcasts that make me think. And then I share all this wonderful knowledge with you! We have to keep growing every day. We have to keep filling our minds with encouragement and surrounding ourselves with those who encourage.

Struggles WILL come.  It’s how we prepare for them that matters. It’s how we react to them that matters more. Our kids are going to test our patience. our husbands are going to make us madder than a hornet and life may feel like it’s spinning out of control. Let’s not be caught unaware and unprepared.

Each day I share with you my thoughts as I work through these things right alongside of you. Today is no different. Grab a cup of coffee or bottle of wine...I mean glass of wine of course (or do I?) and let’s learn and grow and prepare together.

If your bedtime routines are anything like mine typically, they’re filled with rushed goodnights  and frustrations. But what if we used the time we spent with our kids before bed as a time to bond with them and get a glimpse into what they’re really thinking and feeling? What if they can lead to talking points, teaching moments and bonding times, even when not planned?

My boys and I watch a show together each night before bed and when I least expected it, I caught a glimpse into my kids thoughts in a deep way without even planning it. It’s in the unplanned moments. The moments we least expect, that sometimes have the greatest impact on them...and us!

I am not promoting the show in any way, but James and I have been watching “Alexa and Katie” and when I least expected it, I learned a little bit more about James and his thoughts. So I encourage you to always be willing to listen. Always be willing to learn. Always be ready for a teachable moment...not just for our kids, but for ourselves as well. A simple show and my son taught me that I am more than my circumstances, and so are you.

There are so many different personality types and they are ALL needed. How much of our daily energy do we waste on jealousy, comparison, feelings of inadequacy or anger because of those negative feelings we allow in? We need to stop!
(Go ready Psalm 134:13-14 right now.)

How do we react to our kids, our spouses, friends, etc when we eat like crap, feel worry, fear, stress, or ignored...and how can we combat those feelings and reactions?

Today I offer some encouragement and a few steps for how we need to remember that we were created ON purpose, FOR a purpose.

Books I’m reading...
“Start Where You Are” by Rashawn Copeland
“The 40 - Day Sugar Fast” by Wendy Speake

I know I’ve mentioned it before, but filling others buckets not only encourages THEM, but US in the process. We have no idea what someone else is going through. They may look pretty and all put together with the perfect life, the perfect husband, the perfect kids and the perfect hair...but inside they are the loneliest person around. They carry baggage. They don’t believe in themselves or feel beautiful at all.

What if you reached out to them, and told them something they have done to encourage you in your life? Who is on your heart today?
Who comes to your mind as you listen?
Think about it. That mom you envy? What if she needs some uplifting? She may be tired at burnt out.

Each of My boys have a different birth story that has provided some type of teaching in my life. Today’s episode is based off the Bible verse, Mark 7:11 where Jesus says, “But you say that if anyone declares that what might have been used to help their father or mother is Corban (that is, devoted to God)”.

That verse changed my life in so many ways. I don’t remember the day, what was going on, or anything except the fact I know God spoke to me the day I ready it 21 years ago. God works in our lives in so many ways and never exactly how we want, or even in our timeframe...but His ways are so far above ours. I’m STILL learning this even after 44 years of life!

Today I share a little bit about the birth of my 3rd son and what he provided in my life during my darkest hour. Each of my boys have blessed me and taught me something different, as I know each of your children do for you. So whatever your struggle, my mama friend. Whatever hurts you may be experiencing, you are not alone.

I’m sure we all have different times where the negative thoughts take over. Where we feel like the worst mom in the world, the worst wife ever, or  just failing at life. I’ve not wanted to share my thoughts of negativity towards myself with anyone, and have had a difficult time hitting record this week. Because of pride? Because of fear? As I sat here today mulling it over, I knew I needed to share, because I knew I wasn’t alone. The sad reality is we all have these thoughts and whether we are afraid to share with anyone else because of fear of what they’d think, or judgement, or our pride...I think we need to be more open. We need to know we aren’t alone. Others need to know they aren’t alone. When we share our stories, we’re freeing ourselves and we’re encouraging others.

So today, let’s band together. Let’s not be afraid any longer. Let’s get rid of pride. Let’s know we aren’t alone.

I don’t allow myself much time to scroll social media, but sometimes I find the time to see what other moms are sharing. We’re so tired. We just want to go back to bed. We look forward to a crazy week being over. Do you find yourself saying those same things from time to time? I know I do for sure.

What if we flipped our thinking? Oh I know it’s tough and when I say that to you, I’m also looking at myself in the mirror. I focus so much on everything I HAVE to do, that I forget what I GET to do. Be a mom

“This year is going to be different.” I’m sure most of us have gone into each new year thinking that same exact thing. THIS year we will lose the weight. THIS year we will pursue our dream. THIS year we will stop yelling. THIS year...ends up being the same as last year. But it doesn’t have to be that way for any of us. This year CAN be different, it just takes a change in thinking.

As I started to take down my Christmas decor today and get my house back in order, I thought of you. Cleaning. Organizing. Not our favorite things to do each day, but definitely necessary. And as I’ve been doing this for quite a few years now, I’d love to share some helpful tips. I’m sure we can all benefit from advice on how to make life just a little bit easier, am I right??

While I’m sharing these tips for help getting your house back in order after the holidays, they can be used all year around, too. I know for most of us Moms, the cleaning and organizing falls on our shoulders, and I am passionate about sharing any little thing I’ve found that has made my life a little bit easier.

I’d love to know any of your tips or tricks on what makes your life a little bit easier in regards to cleaning and organizing! Send me a message with what makes your life easier and I’ll make sure to share it on a later episode.

I forgot to mention in this episode, but feel it’s important to mention...when you are cleaning and organizing, it’s going to look worse before it looks better. Don’t get discouraged! My house is a disaster right now as we pack things up and organize and I want to feel overwhelmed by it all, but I just keep reminding myself it WILL look better and it will for you too!

The boys and I wanted to wish you a very Merry Christmas. We know it’s different for every one of us this year and while that can bring sadness and loneliness, we pray you cling to Jesus. Because of Him we have life. Because of Him we can have Joy, even in the midst of chaos and stress.

Take some time to read through the Birth of Jesus today. The boys and I love Luke 2, and today we share some verses with you. Then we had a little humor to the episode when I ask Cash and James a few questions about me. I’d love to hear what your kids answers were too! They’re watching us and picking up on things, even when we have no idea!

Cash gets a little (ok a lot) silly at the end, so we have to cut it short, but we pray you find Joy amidst the stress and chaos today. More Jesus! More Joy!

I’m sure all of us can think of stories from our childhood where we didn’t know something and we felt so dumb and stupid.

I’m also sure we can all think of times as moms where we expected our kids to know something and then we end up frustrated when they didn’t.

Today I share one such childhood memory, and an epic mom fail...but we won’t stay there! Never. Failure is never final with us. We’ll pick ourselves and keep moving forward, always learning.

And as always...Less Stress, More Joy!

While I know rest is so important, I also know that so is taking steps to do something every single day.

All too often we look at the big picture of something we want to accomplish and quit before we even start because the end goal seems too big and unattainable.

As Mom’s, We burn out all too quickly because we feel the need to be everything to everyone. We need to stop this cycle, and like yesterday.

In today’s episode, I share 4 tips that have helped me start to move myself forward in areas I’ve always put off, but wanted to grow more in.

I feel silly complaining or even mentioning this, because of all the people I have talked so much  around,,,but my boys talk so much! From the moment that wake up each morning (and they’re morning people), they follow me around all day telling me every dream and every thought, every play in their video game, and every action in their imagination. While I love the time I have with them, and know some days we are our only source of human contact...I’ve learned to crave some quiet!

My husband took the boys shopping and I had a full 60 minutes...all to myself. So what did I do with it?? Talk to you of course!

How often do we look at the big picture, let the time it takes to accomplish something, and give up before we even start?
I know for me, most of my life has been setting goals, but never achieving them, then a year later wishing I had just started.

Whether you want to lose weight, start that workout, go back to school, pursue a new career, etc...why wait?? Why keep looking back with the woulda, coulda, shoulda’ s? I say enough is enough.

Today I share some Saturday thoughts on actually putting in some work and stopping the regrets. Are you with me??

I am big on traditions and having a different theme every day in December. But what about the days when the list of things don’t get done? When the crafts don’t get made, the cookies don’t get baked, or the books don’t get read? What then? Are we failures?

Are we failures if we don’t do all the traditions other families do?
Sticking with our holiday theme of Less Stres - More Joy, today let’s dive a little deeper!

I know what you may be thinking...can there really be some encouragement for me as a Mom in hearing the story about your son barely graduating high school? I’m so glad you asked that, because yes, yes there can be lots of encouragement and I am excited to share it with you today!
If there is one thing I’ve learned (there’s tons actually, but for today’s episode...) if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that all our kids are different.
They learn different. They act different. They receive and feel love  different. Just like you and I are different, so are our kids.
I learned more about what my son loves AFTER he graduated high school and today my heart overflowed with pride. And that will be my encouragement to you.

I’d love to connect with you on social media and hear your thoughts on today’s episode. I’d love to hear things you’re learning about yourself and your kids. We’re all in this together Mama friends!

I found this book (by no accident I’m sure) and I am loving it.
“Create Your Life” by Cherie Rickard.
She asks a question that caused me to get goosebumps today.
How often do we limit ourselves by our thoughts?
How often do we speak life into others, but can never find the kindness for ourselves?

Today I encourage you to flip the script.
Ask yourself this important question.
Journal it. Think on it. Change your life with it.
And in changing YOUR life, I guarantee others lives will be changed as well.

In theory, the week of Thanksgiving, and even the day itself, is supposed to be a day to reflect and be grateful. In reality? Probably not so much. We’re stressed. We have so much to do. The weight of the day seems to rest on our shoulders alone and the days leading up to it leave us more frazzled and short with our kids, our husband’s, and even ourselves.

I yelled a lot last week. It was so ridiculous. As I sit here reflecting on last week and what I can do differently this week, I decided to hit record and share my thoughts. They go all over the place, but it’s like you and I are working through this together. This starts out as a conversation with myself, but I draw you in and I know by the end we are both different people and ready to tackle the day, our week, and the beauty of the holiday.

When chaos and stress seem to be holding hands, we have the power to turn that chaos into joy. Let’s have our mantra this holiday season be Less Chaos...More Joy. I said it last week, and I’ll keep on repeating it!

How many times do we flippantly say a prayer, but don’t really mean it? Can God answer those prayers?
How many times do we beg God to answer our prayer? Will God answer those?

Today I share a few stories of times God has answered my prayer.
We need to keep praying, all the time, about everything.

Let’s use this quick tip Friday to light us up and change our lives. Change doesn’t always mean big and huge, but can start with one quiet step in the right direction.

I recorded this episode a few weeks ago with the intention of having these thoughts preparing us weeks before Thanksgiving. Other episodes took priority and I never believe in coincidences, but that everything is for a purpose. We all needed to be reminded of turning chaos into Joy today. This was meant for you to listen to at this exact moment.

So often we go into the holiday season with the right mindset and heart, but then we get caught up in all the things we have to do, all the things we need to be and parties we need to attend, We get burnt out and the negative attitudes take over. How is that helping and blessing anyone?? Hint: it’s not.

I pray today’s episode encourages you, lights you on fire and blesses your life.
I talk about the book “Sacred Holidays ; Less Chaos, More Jesus” but Becky Kiser and I highly recommend it!!

Earlier this week, James and I shared some ups and downs about diabetes. He is such a warrior and an inspiration! Today I wanted to take some time and share MY side of the story and what I went through as a mom. Some of my “failures” that day and the days leading up to it. I share some things I learned through it all and how you can be an inspiration to your kids and to others.

We may go through something in our lives where it seems unfair, where we feel weak, where we feel we just can’t do it. But I am here to tell you that you CAN get through it and one day you will be a light in the middle of someone else’s darkest hour.

In honor of James and all the others fighting this silent battle, we ask that you wear blue today! Raise awareness about the truths of living with type 1 diabetes and send us a screenshot of you wearing blue!!

As we prepare for the holiday season, I’d love for us all to daily prepare our minds for thanksgiving. We have been given so much and each day is a gift. I’ll start by saying I am very thankful for you, and you listening is a huge gift to me.

My Grandma bought me a book when I was 10 years old called, “I want, what I want, when I want it” and I was SO mad! There was NO way I was a selfish kid, right? And what was wrong with wanting things my way anyway. My way seemed amazing! Ugh.

As I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized that I’ve been taking that same mentality into my prayers. I don’t really ASK God, for help, I pretty much tell Him what I think is best and treat Him like a genie in a bottle who should answer it the way I think best. Anyone else??

Today’s quick tip Friday is all about some of my thoughts on prayer that I know you’ll find so encouraging.

In today’s episode, I refer to the book, “The Five Love Languages of Children” by Gary Chapman, Ph.D and Ross Campbell, M.D. and share some tips on how we can help our children feel loved. So often we show our kids love in the way WE feel loved and then wonder why they  question our love. We’re doing the best we can, right?? Yes, but we can do better.

Today I challenge you to stop and observe your kids for a second. Are they following you around non-stop? (Quality Time?)
Are they clingy and driving you nuts? (Physical Touch?)
Are they angry at you all the time and saying hurtful things? Maybe it’s because they don’t know how to express that they need love shown in a different way.

I know I wanted Friday’s to be quicker, but there’s so much to say to help us be better Mom’s!

I know I said I was going to talk some about the 5 Love Languages today, but I had 2 different things on my heart this week that I knew you needed to hear today. (We’ll talk about the 5 Love Languages soon because they’re definitely important too!)

Today I want you to KNOW that YOU were created with and for a purpose. You are not here by accident. And you need to know that YOU’RE gifts are yours, so don’t go looking at someone else’s gifts and be jealous!

Secondly, I want you to laugh with me. You don’t feel like laughing today? Your week’s been tough? You just don’t have it in you? I know being a mom is tough, draining, exhausting and filled with no sleep. Listen to this episode with me and let me know if you still didn’t laugh by the end. What if you were going through some stuff and you didn’t cherish your babies?
Is it too late?
Does that mean you’ll always be a bad mom?

As I sit here listening to this episode before it airs, I fine myself crying. I cry as I remember the day I’m talking about. I cry as I remember my thoughts and feelings of inadequacy. I cry because I know I’m not the only one who feels unworthy of their loss. “I never held my baby like other mother’s did” we tell ourselves. We diminish our pain. We tell ourselves we shouldn’t be so sad about someone we never met. But we couldn’t be further from the truth.

Any loss is a loss.
Any loss brings pain, heartache and empty arms.

As I listen to today’s episode, I hear myself talking differently. It’s like I’m reading a story of someone else’s life, and not my own. But this is my life. And I’m sharing it with you today.
