We are a podcast set up by Oras Delft, AIESEC in Delft and GreenTU Delft to discuss how the TU Delft and others implement the Sustainable Development Goals. We will host companies, professors, student initiatives and individuals to get together and converse about the most pressing and innovative matters! The Sustainable Development Goals recognize that ending poverty and other deprivations must go hand-in-hand with strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality and spur economic growth - all while tackling climate change and working to preserve.
In this season finale we talk about SDG number 6: 'Clean water and sanitation for everyone'. Besides discussing investment paradoxes in cleaning water, it becomes clear in this episode that clean water, the blue gold of the 21st century, is essential for each product and every process. We have two experts joining us for this episode, professor of drinking water & Urban Water cycle technology and currently the chairman of the water management department of the TU Delft, Luuk Rietveld. Joining him we are honoured to have the CEO of the second biggest water company in the Netherlands and with that one of the best in the world, Annette Ottolini. Her company Evides delivers fresh water to millions of people in the Netherlands every year. Besides that they contribute heavily on reducing the worldwide drinking water scarcity via the company VEI.
You’re about to listen to part 2 of SDG 7: Affordable and Clean energy. In this second part, we’re diving further into the new geothermal plan for the TU Delft campus and beyond. We are joined by Gilbert de Nijs, who knows all the ins and outs of this plan, and by Stephan Brandligt, who is the councilor of Delft regarding sustainable development. He is closely involved in the new district heating plan for the entire municipality of Delft. The two of them strike up a very interesting conversation about the future of district heating systems, the technology needed to achieve these and withcoming NIMBY (Not In My BackYard) attitudes. This is the first of two episodes in which we dive deep into Sustainable Development Goal 7: Affordable and Clean Energy. Joining us are Hubert Linssen, project manager of the new geothermal energy project at TU Delft, and Bram-Paul Jobse, financial director of EPZ, which operates the only nuclear power plant in the Netherlands. In this episode we discuss the ins and outs of two different energy technologies: Geothermal energy and nuclear energy. One fairly unknown, the other usually quite infamous. We are joined by two members of TU Delft Maxime Iserief (Delft Hyperloop) and Tanya Spee (Vattenfall Solar Team) to talk about the transportation aspect of Sustainable Development Goal 11. The theme of this episode is centred around Sustainable Development Goal 12, Responsible Consumption and Production. We are joined by Jouri Schoemaker, from circular online supermarket Pieter Pot, and Kees Knulst, from vegetable breeding company Rijk Zwaan. Each representing a side of the solutions we need today when it comes to responsible consumption, one through packaging, the other through food waste reduction. Welcome to the first episode of Sustainable Goalgetters! In this episode we will focus on Sustainable Development Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities. This SDG focuses on making cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable. We are joined by Dr. Henk Jonkers and Kelvin Saunders. Dr. Jonkers is a professor at TU Delft with a specialization in self-healing concrete. Kelvin Saunders is a member of SUM, a student team participating in the Solar Decathlon Europe 2021 in Wuppertal.
