Ok, lovely followers, I have to share with you that rosemary is incredibly beneficial… include some in your diet everyday, if you can. I have two large bushes and eat it, boil it to emit the oils in my home space, and I make tea with it. I do this about every other day. I love the ritual.

Be careful with rosemary essential oil. Overconsumption, including breathing and absorbing it through your environment can be toxic! I like to mention this about essential oils, as they are incredibly potent if not added to a gentle carrier oil to dilute it.

This can be a brilliant new ritual to your life that will enliven what rosemary does best:

Body Benefits of Rosemary

  • Digestive Health: Rosemary supports healthy digestion by stimulating bile production and reducing bloating.

  • Antioxidant Powerhouse: Rich in antioxidants, it helps combat oxidative stress and inflammation.

  • Immune Support: Its antimicrobial properties may help protect against infections.

  • Circulation Booster: Rosemary stimulates blood flow, which can help with muscle recovery and scalp health (promoting hair growth).

  • Pain Relief: The herb is often used in oils or salves to alleviate muscle aches and joint pain.

  • Respiratory Health: Rosemary’s aroma can ease congestion and support clear breathing.

Rosemary for the Mind

  • Memory and Cognitive Support:

  • Recent studies suggest that inhaling rosemary essential oil can improve memory retention and alertness.

  • Stress Reduction:

  • Its calming yet invigorating aroma helps to reduce anxiety and mental fatigue, fostering a balanced and focused state of mind.

  • Mood Enhancement:

  • Rosemary is uplifting and can combat feelings of lethargy, making it beneficial for combating mild depression or lack of motivation.

Historical Uses of Rosemary

  • Symbol of Remembrance:

  • In ancient Greece and Rome, rosemary was considered a symbol of memory and fidelity. Students would wear rosemary garlands to enhance memory while studying.

  • Spiritual and Ritualistic Uses:

  • In Medieval Europe, rosemary was burned to ward off negative energies and purify spaces. It was also placed under pillows to prevent nightmares and promote restful sleep.

  • Healing Practices:

  • In traditional medicine, rosemary was used to treat headaches, muscle pain, and digestive issues. It was also believed to strengthen the heart and improve circulation.

  • Weddings and Funerals:

  • Rosemary was often included in weddings as a symbol of love and fidelity and in funerals to honor the memory of the deceased.

  • Protection and Purification:

  • Rosemary was believed to have protective qualities and was often hung in doorways or carried to ward off evil spirits and illnesses.

I admire the use of rosemary because it continues to used and loved not only for its medicinal properties but also for its spiritual and symbolic roles in fostering mental clarity and emotional well-being.

“There is nothing noble in being superior to your fellow man; true nobility is being superior to your former self.” - Ernest Hemingway

Inside this pod, I reflect on a well-intended advice from others and why I am so grateful for where I am now. I do what I do without comparing myself to others. The reality is I have had mentors and study business, and the disciplines that I am an expert in. I love the kind and generous folks who share their ideas without without restraint.

I do want to share that self-love is the magic elixir to comparing yourself with others. By doing this exercise with the cornerstone of comparing yourself with self-love inside the space of your own life. We are each individual and unique. We each have our own shining star that represents us. It doesn’t always work to compare ourselves to others, especially, when we each have our own path with different influences, situarions, experiences, and desired outcomes.

Within this detail, it can be a rejuvenation to do this at this time of year when I am posting this, during the holiday season before the New Year! It could be a beautiful exercise to have a look at the past year and reflect on where you were and where you are now. What has been working? What needs tweaking? How can you keep progressing in your desire trajectory. Do take into account others in your field and your own personal goals. This is where a cookie cutter “system” doesn’t always work the same way for each person.

I share this with you in love and respect for your unique path and your own journey. Allow yourself the privilege to compare yourself to yourself… it’s the only fair comparison there could ever be.

With love,

Angela

I work with women who sometimes don’t identify with the name of my business: Beautify Face Yoga. They don’t think it is something they “should” do or event “could” do. But then they call me. We discuss and slowly they realize that what we are doing is more about the “inside” work of their worthiness. Self-love is a right of everyone. We all deserve to take care of ourselves, orient to our desires and wishes. This is our birthright.

You see, we elevate our vitality when we attend to our mindset, our body’s health, and listen to our internal landscape speak to us in its own unique way. Connecting the dots on all of this for yourself inevitably beautifies your personal experience and radiates in your skin and how you carry yourself. You can’t really get away from this, in all honesty. Do take a moment to enjoy the pod and let me know your thoughts, right here, on Substack!

Thank you so much for being here!

This is a day that I really think is fun. A holiday about eating. American Thanksgiving to honor the past rights and wrongs, as well as family and friends. I hope you will enjoy my thoughts this morning about space and time.

I have so much to be grateful for! Everyday I get to wake up to a beautiful sunrise. Sometimes it is fogged in and that is a romantic way to wake up. Uniquely San Franciscan (and also Londonish, as well as unique to Cape Town, too. Where else receives regular bits of fog? I would love to learn from you.

Within this idea of space and time, I want to share gratitude for having the space and time today to share my thoughts about this idea. I would love to learn from you what I missed. Please do share it — message me and let me know.

This holiday season can be a shift. You can rearrange how you are doing things during the holidays if you want to you. You don’t have to be beholden to the same old way of doing things. It isn’t a sustainable approach for your sanity and for Mother Earth. We need a new paradigm for being intentional with our generosity. Allow it to be kind of intentionality that others lean into.

Allow it to be so you create space for yourself and others rather than space for things. It may very well free up your mind and soul of burdensome tasking and merrymaking that can feel disingenuous sometimes.

This is part of a trauma-informed series of podcasts I am sharing. If you like this pod, I invite you to check out my past previous pods on trama-informed socializing. It can be so helpful for you and your mindset at this time of year!

In my mind, it goes without saying that we live in a different era than we did ten years ago. We live in a time that for those of us who are empathetic and inclusive, the innter-landscape of each person we meet is somewhat considered. I say somewhat because not all people do this all of the time. We can daresay that definitely not all people do this.

I had a conversation with someone earlier about someone else who may not attend the Thanksgiving meal with their family. This invited a deeper conversation about why this person may have the feelings they do about attending (which aren’t good). From there, I did feel the need to bring up what I think may be obvious to most, but evidently, not to everyone that sometimes socioeconomic situations prevent us from engaging in cross-country travel to attend an event outside of said person’s place of residence.

That was where I left it.

However, I came away from this conversation being reminded why I feel it is important to acknowledge my own feelings about the holidays. You see, my childhood holidays were filled with mixed feelings. Some happy and some sad. Sad feelings during childhood tend to overshadow the good feelings in my life. This is just my reality. It is something you may not relate to (or maybe you do). And this is ok. I thing sharing more topics around trauma-informed experience may be able to help another person, so I have decided to share more about this in my writing. I have also done a great deal of personal work to get to this point.

It goes without saying that I am not alone, here. So many in the world have common experiences with trauma and how to deal with theirs. I decided to write about this now, as the holidays are usually difficult for me. When I was a kid, this time of year felt like something that I endured, which is different from feelings of summer time that were mostly free and easy during my childhood. All was aglow. That was a time of abundance in our lives with lush fruits and vegetables that made up a great deal of my memories. I love food!

Food will anchor me into this coming Thanksgiving. With so much love in our house, it will be difficult to feel the feels from yonder year. I love the idea of this year being in our San Francisco home hosting my part of my in-law crew. It will be fun and delightful and I can’t wait! However, the jagged edges of feeling punted to my grandparents most Thanksgivings that my mother needed a break left me feeling uncomfortable. She sometimes would make a Thanksgiving lunch for us to eat before we were off to eat at my grandparents.

It felt strange.

I didn’t fully understand the idea of us eating twice, considering how much time she spent on the lunch. I guess in the end, her frustration was knitted together with disappointment in having a split family for her girls.

In recent years, I have begun to understand that much of her frustration was around our socio-economic class at the time. I always felt like we were poor. We knew others who were better off. Their lives looked fun. Don’t get me wrong, we had plenty! I had my own record player, and what else did I need other than Barbies. I had those, too.

However, the real things in life are often those bits that reside in the shadows of things. Those things that are unsaid, unseen, and unfelt completely.. those are the things that do matter so much, just as much as the dreams, hopes, and resilience made during all of those shadowy moments of growing up and childhood. Working through the murky shadowing parts of myself has been the best gift to myself and those around me. Forgiving and acknowledging the tough folks and people in this world may take time, but it is a burden lifted, once accomplished.

From Rift to Shift: how to get through the holidays and have some fun!

The things is. There may not be enough time. That is why most people don’t do the following work in the time that you DO have. Hear me out, a little intention goes a long way.

Simply considering your thoughts about your feelings around the holidays and why you feel the way you do, is an activity that offers good hygiene for your energy. This work can begin at any time! You can take time to sit and think about who you will be interacting with. If you’ve had a rift with someone, maybe you can make a shift!

There has never been a better moment to consider how you comport yourself and what you can bring to a group dynamic. your energy can be like an elixir to heal others with your presence. Forgiveness can burble up and you can make amends with old ways of being. Presenting yourself as a whole new person, fresh and willing empathize with others, even those who may need a little extra attention and forgiveness.

I bring this up because you know that you know someone who gives someone in the family the silent-treatment or have had a falling out. This is a reality for so many, no matter your socio-economic bracket. Everyone has conflicts.

The intention that you bring into your family gathering and friendsgivings this year can be that of inclusion, empathy, magnanimous in nature. You can truly create some new special moments by holding space for yourself and others to simply be human, complicated, difficult, and sometimes easy-going to. Just enjoy the space that you create with simply considering what lies ahead and making some efforts to ameliorate difficulties for yourself and others. Enjoy the community spirit and the generosity that you give to others with the gift of INTENTION.

I am so excited about this episode! I bring forward a connection of what beauty is for me and explore themes around this. 111 has a special numerological meaning. After a bit of googling, I found that 111 is a sign that a person is going to see opportunity, meet with good fortune, achieve a goal that they have been working on, or experience a new beginning.

This means so much to me right now and I love getting inspired by spiritual love notes like seeing a marker of communication of symbols during my daily activity. Yesterday I also caught a glimpse of this critter. Do you know what it is?

In animal lore, this monarch caterpillar is a natural message that transformation and rebirth may come as an upcoming change or a new direction in life. I love looking into what presents in my life as a message, as I know that the life that I now see at my age represents what I have manifested in my life either consciously or subconsciously. My spiritual experience is about drawing connections to things in my life. I like it. What about you, do you do things like this?

Hello and welcome to this podcast.

0:19

I am so excited that we are here on the 111th episode of Beautify Inside Out.

0:32

This has been a dream of mine.

0:34

I love, love, love that we are here in the 111th episode.

0:40

This is an angel number.

0:41

I don't know if you're into that.

0:43

I'm into it randomly.

0:45

I don't follow it completely.

0:47

But I did look up this number in numerology, and it does represent an opportunity, a goal realized, or something that is imminent, a new transition.

1:06

I'm so loving marking this time with you.

1:10

You're my listeners.

Tell me what you think of my episodes, what you come here for.

1:26

I would love to learn.

1:28

So I'm marking this 111th episode with a basically a mini dissertation about beauty.

1:40

What beauty is for me, how it transforms my life.

1:47

We all know that beauty is actually part of our hormonal system, how we interact with things, things that we're drawn to, attracted to.

And that can be on a human level, sexual level.

2:02

It can also just resonate with our innermost heart's desires.

2:09

What beautiful things...

2:11

are to each of us are unique and representing of our mark in time as a human.

2:20

And I'd love to hear from you what your thoughts are on beauty.

2:24

You're totally invited to share with me.

2:26

I'm also hanging out on Instagram a lot.

2:29

My handle is beautifyfaceyoga.

2:32

And inside this short episode, you're going to find some interesting ideas from me and also an invitation for you to try some of the best skin care I've been working with in a very long time that can work trans...

2:49

That can work generationally.

Between you, your kids, your teens, tweens.

2:55

It's safe.

2:57

And I love that you're here.

2:59

Thank you so much.

3:00

Enjoy.

3:09

Hello, hello.

3:10

I want to amplify in this last episode of the season some things that you can do to have the spring be your very best season this year.

3:28

The spring is about growth, renewal,

3:34

Youthful ideas.

Because in nature, the trees have sprouted.

3:40

They have leaves by now.

3:42

If they've had flowers, the flowers are probably gone.

3:45

And they have leaves by now.

3:48

And things are starting to grow.

3:52

So growth and expansion.

3:54

Part of spring.

3:56

When we think about the spring dew and the spring grasses that pop up, the animals in the world are looking for that spring grass.

4:06

It's the sweetest.

4:08

So sweetness is part of spring.

4:12

What kind of things do you see in your diet that are sweet?

4:16

Like sweet carrots are very delicious this time of year.

4:20

Sweet fennel, sweet grasses, you know, like watercress, very sweet, has a little spice to it, but very sweet green in general.

And when you think about this sweetness, I want to invite you to think about that energy of sweetness.

4:40

You could invite that into your day, into your week, into your relationships by offering some sweet gentility.

4:49

How can you make someone's life better who's around you?

4:54

How can you beautify their experience with a little sweetness?

4:59

A little gentleness just to match that sweet breeze that we feel in the spring.

5:06

It's not too hot.

5:08

It's not too cool.

5:10

It's just right, right?

We can be outside in most springtime weather and just feel the warmth of the sun without it being too hot.

5:19

Very gentle in nature, generally speaking, depending upon your climate.

5:25

Okay.

5:28

depending upon your area's experience with climate changes.

5:35

But that's the typical experience for spring.

5:39

And when you invite that nature of the season into your experience, it helps you have a better experience.

5:51

It helps you feel spring in your body.

5:56

And that is a beautiful thing.

6:00

At this point in the season, you either have or you're considering maybe a spring change, cleanse.

Maybe you're going to clean the house, go do some spring cleaning.

6:14

Or maybe you're thinking or have already done a spring detoxification in your body.

6:21

That's beautiful.

6:22

That's a really, really great way to adapt to the seasons by adding some spring foods like artichokes, maybe some ramps, some clearing, cleansing foods.

6:35

Spring garlic can be really fun.

6:38

Green garlic is a fun one.

6:40

All of these things help to clear our digestion so we can digest food better and then we're going to create matter in our body better because we're nourishing our blood flow.

6:51

flow and those are very critical parts of spring it's to clear the digestion because a lot of times in the winter we've been having a lot of rich foods maybe a lot of chocolate just like hot chocolate hot cacaos to warm up with or maybe you've been um

7:13

having rich gooey things to just feel cozy with like caramels or some gooey cakes or anything really so with that in mind you can add these clearing foods even like a delicious watercress soup is so good in the spring so yummy really nice even um

7:41

other kinds of soups that can offer fresh vegetables like fennel and sometimes we even have cardoons here in the spring in California but mushrooms are also a wonderful nurturing force in the spring and can help fortify our cleanse with delicious micronutrients so

Spring in your beauty is a really great thing to consider because as we cleanse and clear the gut, the blood, it's going to show up on our skin.

8:17

We're cleansing our skin from the inside out.

8:22

And how amazing is that, right?

8:27

To be able to do that, we are these vital animals.

8:33

Humans are meant to be self-healing within reason, to be self-regenerative in our cellular health within

reason, depending upon our age, of course.

8:48

But we have that ability to heal ourselves with food from the inside out and that beautifies our body from the inside out.

8:58

It makes us more productive, more effective as humans in our ambulatory state.

9:08

So I wanted to share this idea of spring with you to help you invite a feeling of spring into your life.

9:18

And if you're like me, if you're in your 40s or 50s, you can invite that idea of spring, that youthfulness of spring, that dew of spring into your heart, your mind, through your nourishment.

9:34

your habits, your lifestyle, offering new hydration and diet to clear and cleanse the skin, you can also think about a new skincare regimen.

And I am a consultant for LifeVantage.

9:49

I love, I love their technology and how much the skincare programs that they offer are

9:59

It just feels so beautiful on the skin, and they have this gorgeous skincare line that I absolutely love.

10:11

It's called True Science, and it's steeped in science.

10:15

And it uses the NRFT science and it changes the plasticity of the skin.

10:25

It changes the resilience of the skin, the bounce that it has.

10:32

It actually eliminated a vertical line that I have on my right cheek.

10:39

It's completely gone.

10:40

And I do sleep on my back.

I have transitioned to sleeping on my back, so I'm sure that's part of it.

10:45

But it was still hanging around there until I started using this.

10:48

And after about two weeks, the vertical line is gone.

10:51

And I'm not joking.

10:54

And we also have a brilliant eye cream that we encourage you to put on the top lid.

11:01

And it helps to lift the skin of this area over time.

11:07

It does work in it, you know, like on the spot, it does work, but over time it continues to work.

11:13

And I can share some before and afters in the, um, in this particular podcast episode notes here on Substack.

11:20

So you can check those out.

Enjoy what you see.

11:26

And I have a link there.

11:28

You can shop on my site.

11:29

Or if you want to talk about it, if you're a little concerned or worried about it, by all means, reach out to me so you can better understand how and why the products work for all skin types, all ages.

11:43

I love this because not only do I use these products, but so do my kids.

11:47

So we can just kind of have a bundle together.

11:50

We all use it.

11:52

And, you know, it's fantastic.

11:56

And you don't need a lot of any of it So it lasts a long time, even between three people.

12:01

So I'm...

12:02

I'm just so excited to share this with people.

12:04

For many years, I thought, ooh, I would love to hustle a skincare product, even before I opened Beautify.

12:12

Because I know that nourishment and skincare are what are going to help keep my natural-looking vibe going.

12:25

It wasn't until I was in my...

12:30

let's see here, like really seriously, late 40s, probably 48 when I started wearing a tinted moisturizer.

12:40

I had always used sunscreen and used, um, sometimes I did use a bronzing gel.

12:47

Um, it was old school.

12:50

I used, it was from Bonnie Bell.

12:52

It was a, it

12:53

The little bronzing gel that I used.

But that was translucent.

12:57

It didn't have coverage.

12:59

So now I use Elia for my tinted moisturizer.

13:05

It has an SPF in it.

13:07

And it is so wonderful.

13:11

It lasts all day.

13:13

And you can layer products to get a certain mattification if that's something you like.

13:16

But I love that spring dewy vibe.

13:21

That spring dewy.

13:22

dewy look I love it I don't really want to look like I have powder on to me that looks flat and I like that shine and the beauty of the dewy look so if you're right there with me oh my gosh we have so much to talk about you can message me on instagram at beautify face yoga So we can talk, we can have a quick Zoom meeting if you want to do that, or we can talk on the phone to find out what is perfect for your skin as far as Elia products go and as far as True Vantage goes because I am an affiliate for Elia.

14:01

and love the education they provide to their affiliates as well as Life Vantage.

14:07

I really love their skincare line.

14:09

There's actually a new one that's being released soon, and I'm looking forward to trying that, but I love this baseline.

14:17

It's so fantastic.

14:19

And like I said, I have two teenagers on it as well as myself.

14:24

So if that's something that you're interested in, saving money around skin care and what will absolutely work.

14:31

It's also a very clean line.

14:33

I only work with clean products.

And it's vegan.

14:38

So you don't have to worry about any animal products in there.

14:41

So let me know what you're thinking.

14:44

And I'll talk to you later.

14:45

Bye, bye, bye.

14:50

I am so excited to introduce the Life Vantage skincare products with you.

14:55

This whole skincare line is top of the line, world class, and recognized by Think Dirty as a clean makeup line.

15:06

And for me, having a vegan option is really important to me.

15:11

I don't want to put anything on my skin that was unnecessarily tested on animals.

And one of the things that I love about not only the whole True Renew line, which includes a retinol type of ingredient that is made from appropriated skins of cranberries that are left over from making other foodstuffs like juice and pulp and culinary items.

15:44

They use the cranberry skins to create this amazing impact on our skin in the retinol style product.

15:54

So I'll put a link in my bio for this particular product.

15:59

But what I also want to share with you is it works on my teenagers.

16:06

And it also works on my skin.

16:08

So it just offers this beautiful, simple exfoliation that is so gentle and mild.

And over time, it really creates a major impact in the smoothness of your skin.

16:23

And then also, the sunscreen that they have is impeccable.

16:28

Because not only does it have 30 SPF...

16:31

It's a mineral-based sunscreen, protects from UVA and UVB rays, and it's also water-resistant for around almost 90 minutes.

16:44

And what I really love about it is that it helps to reverse past sun damage, hyperpigmentation.

16:53

in about three weeks takes about three weeks so it's not only sunscreen but it's skin care you really have to give this a try and I'm excited to introduce this to you all of the links are down below in this post for the podcast and

I hope you'll reach out to me if you have any questions.

17:15

I decided to be a partner with LifeVantage and I couldn't be happier about it.

17:22

So let me know if you want to give the products a try.

17:24

Thanks so much.

17:26

Bye, bye, bye.

17:32

have you been noticing some changes in the mirror are you trying to stitch together skin care cardiovascular exercise and maybe you're not thinking about face yoga but face yoga is proven to be a time tested

17:55

high functioning way to minimize spine lines and wrinkles and also just employ more self-love and healing in your heart.

18:07

And I love face yoga for these extra benefits of lowered inflammation.

18:14

The healing capacity for folks who do this, who have had head injuries and things like that, show me how beneficial it is for anyone who needs.

18:25

You fortunately may not have had a head injury, but the benefits are such that it can really revitalize the way the blood flow is working up into your head.

18:38

It's powerful.

And I'd love to teach you how to do this in my six-week course.

18:44

This is an online course, and you also get live trainings with me every week where we settle in

18:53

And we examine how you're adapting to the poses that you're learning, how they work on your face.

18:59

Everyone's face is different.

19:01

Everyone has a different shape of face.

19:03

And I hold your hand the whole way through.

19:07

So the other fun thing about this is you also learn about the energetics of the head, neck, decollete, and your entire body.

19:14

So if all of this sounds interesting, then DM me on Instagram at beautifyfaceyoga.

19:20

I would love to share this with you.

19:22

You can also go explore my website at beautifyfaceyoga.com.

19:28

Thank you so much.

19:30

Have a great rest of your day.

19:32

Bye, bye, bye.

19:39

Have you been feeling a little not yourself or notice aging is taking a step forward for you?

19:48

Have you been noticing some inflammation?

I ask you because I use and I also am a partner with Juice Plus+.

19:59

And these are world class food based, they're NSF certified food based supplements.

20:08

So everything on the inside is not concentrated.

20:13

It's not concentrated to a point that is toxic.

20:19

It's not, there are a lot of things that it's not, but what it is, is absolutely helpful to create a compounded interest in your body so you lower inflammation more.

20:34

faster than you could ever think possible.

20:39

Most of us don't eat enough fruits and vegetables.

20:42

Even those of us who do eat a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables, we self-select and we tend to eat the same things over and again.

And right now, the daily recommendation for individuals to include a number of fruits and vegetables in their diet is to eat over 20 different fruits and vegetables.

21:05

Do you do that?

21:07

I eat very healthfully, but I am not able to do that.

21:11

Even if I add herbs into that little mix of what I'm eating, it wouldn't come up to 20 different kinds of things.

21:18

So because of that, I supplement my diet with juice plus fruit and vegetable, berries, and omega capsules.

21:26

And I, press wood, have not been sick this entire winter.

21:32

Knock on wood.

21:35

I did get COVID last summer and that's the last time I've been sick.

21:39

And I am someone who grew up with chronic sicknesses, a lot of problems in my health as a youngster.

21:48

And if you've listened to any of my podcasts about my story, you will know that I really...

21:54

reestablish myself by learning Ayurveda and doing a lot of wonderful actions like yoga and creating a good sound mindset and calming my nervous system but what the real thing that's happened in the last two and a half years is taking Juice Plus and I'm putting together some photos to show you about this in my website

22:24

and it's going to be there in about a week and what I love about Juice Plus supplements is that it's simple there's not a whole lot to it you don't have to overthink it over time you eat over 30 fruits and vegetables every day, And you have a compounding effect of micronutrients in your body that your organs understand, that your digestive system says thank you to.

22:55

The other thing about these wonderful supplements is my digestion is perfect.

23:02

I've never had that in my whole life, except when I've taken Ayurvedic herbs, which are all so wonderful.

23:09

But I love the plant-based program.

23:12

And what I also love is that when I buy supplements for myself, my son gets them as well for free.

23:20

So there's a Healthy Starts program, which I absolutely love.

23:24

If this is something that you're interested in, if it resonates, you should try it. Just DM me on Instagram.

23:30

My handle is at beautifyfaceyoga.

23:33

Thanks.

Beautify Your Memory

0:13

Welcome I am Angela Rosoff I am your host here at Beautify Inside Out and I'm so glad that you found your way here to me in today's podcast episode we are examining the idea of ideas and language and how we can suspend our ideas about things to feel the energy around it.

So try suspending that and let me know what happens I'd love to hear from you. I would really love to.

This is a fun one. It's a short one and I hope you enjoy it if you will leave me a review on the Apple podcast and Spotify. I'd love to hear from you… love to hear what you think. Thank you so much.. bye bye bye.

1:55

Okay I have a question for you what do you think about energetics? I am talking about energetics of within people. I am a yoga teache, face yoga teacher, and I also teach people about wellness which means I'm talking about nourishment, meditation, exercise…and something that I've been thinking about a lot are the energetics.

I have a face yoga teacher training that I'm doing right now. I'm right in the middle of it it's so much fun and what I really love about it is we're outlining in about half of the the modules about the energetics of the face, the energetics of the body. How that works and we're looking at it from different modalities of western medicine, traditional chinese medicine, japanese traditional medicine, and ayurveda and within all of that, it sent me to the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. Because the energetics and with so many modalities thinking about energetics and how they work really well together. There's a lot of correlation around how energy is working in the body.

3:28

But I want to read this sutra to you because, well let me just read it and then we can discuss. So the yoga sutra that I wanted to share from book 1, it's 1:43, is:

Smriti Parashudha Svarapu Suni Evarta Matra Nirbhasa Nirvitarga.

3:59

So what this means is in Sanskrit, it means when the memory is well purified, the knowledge of the object of concentration shines alone, devoid of the distinction of name and quality.

4:13

This is Navitarka Samadhi or Samadhi without deliberation. When I read this, you may not completely know what I'm talking about you may not understand it. But what it really means is when the memory is purified or devoid of qualities there is only the knowledge of whatever it is to be meditated upon so when you ignore the knowledge. When you ignore the sound, the word or the name of something, and also ignoring the meaning or the object or form, all you get is the idea, the energy.

5:06

It's energetic.

It’s really incredible because with this sutra it helps me to better explain the energetics of the body, the face, the mind because it does transcend the common ideas around the nervous system.

6:00

it's in the energetics of our body that we can understand the way a person works their matter is working in a way that is unique simply defined because they're their own they're their own person their own thing so this is a little bit philosophical but not really if you remove the name the definition of the object you just have the thin and you can discern from your knowledge. You know what is happening. What that thing does how to help it. You can detach from that emotions visceral nature with that union in your mind. Your cultural definitions that you understand you could suspend that with this kind of activity of distilling your memory.

7:00

For me, what this sutra means is that we can know what we know, but allow everything that you see to be new again.

I have come to a better place in my life because of this practice. I've been able to move on from people who have hurt me in my life. I’ve been able to move on from all those feelings and not retain them for such a long time. This helps shape everything about how I am with that person but I can distill down and understand that that person was hurting. So then, I can better understand that union with me they're experience hurt and putting it onto me.

8:38

It helps me understand a little bit more about why these things happened. It also helps me to have compassion for that person so I don't hold grief and have it shape me in a way like time shapes a stone as water wind washes over it, so I don't have to be shaped by that continual thought of hurt for so long. Then I don't become the person who's hurt. Then I may start hurting people or I am unable to develop as a person and realize my potential.

9:23

So, to me having a look at this idea of purification of memories, it helps to beautify your life. Because you're you're able to function at a higher level. You're able to move on. You're able to teach others about this principle through your own action. Some things in this world believe it or not you don't need to get a certification or a diploma to master it.

9:49

You could actually really elevate your life and your position in your career by simply purifying your memory about things. Suspending the cultural paradigms. Suspend the definition of something can be very helpful, too. So if someone was defined as being you know a real jerk or, you know, or something like that.

10:14

By purifying your mind around it, you can suspend those definitions that others have given to him or even you yourself have given to a person and help them be released from that sort of experience.

10:35

Thank you so much for being here.

10:36

I would love, love, love if you could leave a review for me on Apple Podcasts and Spotify.

10:45

It helps me to reach more people, to help them beautify, to help beautify our world.

I eat very healthfully but I am not able to do that even if I add herbs into that little mix of what I'm eating it wouldn't come up to 20 different kinds of fruits and veg. Because of that, I supplement my diet with Juice Plus fruit, vegetable, berries and omega capsules and I press wood have not been sick this entire winter.

I did get COVID last summer and that's the last time I've been sick and I am someone who grew up with chronic sicknesses a lot of problems in my health as a youngster and if you've listened to any of my podcasts about my story you will know that I really re-established myself by

Welcome back I'm so excited that you're here this season I'm posing some questions to you throughout my podcast and I'm excited to ask this question because well let me ask it who are you trying to please

Who are you trying to please?

This is a question that I ask because it is part of beautification rituals that I teach to my wellness clients.

And the reason it's part of beautification rituals is that if you are trying to please people, you are doing harm to your beauty.

When we try to please people, it puts us in a subservient role, even in the smallest of ways.

Sometimes pleasing people can come out of a love.

You know, you see what needs to happen and you want to make someone happy.

You know, that's beautiful actually. That's quite, quite beautiful.

Is it easier to please others than assert yourself?

If it is a part of your being where you it's easier to please people than to assert yourself, that is hindering your own personal development which isn't that's not pretty, right? That's tough. That's hard for you to carry on and I share this because I have been a people pleaser for a really long time and in all honesty I think I just aged out of it. I do a lot of self-love work… a lot of personal development work. So I may have developed out of it like I may have done the work. But honestly, there was actually a day, I can't tell you what day it was, but it was back in the fall where I was just like you know what?

I don't do this anymore.

I don't try to please people anymore.

It's just I've grown out of it.

I can't do it anymore.

I respectfully acknowledge that you may want something.

But if I'm not able to give it to you I'm not going to go out of my way to cause harm to myself to please another person.

I'm not going to hinder that no matter your stature or no matter your place in the hierarchical situation because I guess the reality is I don't see a hierarchy with anyone anymore. I am just as important as anyone on this planet and I really feel that way. Sometimes I'm in the presence of others who don't agree with me

How do make it known that they might see me in a different light than I see myself and the thing about that is I can respectfully interact with that person but it is just not true. I don't live within their framework of reality so that's on them to sort out I'm not here to please anyone in a way that, whatever their standards are… I don't know what they are I don't have any awareness of that. What I do know is that I am a part of whatever I want to be a part of I can hold a conversation with individuals of any standard and I know that I can relate to them on some level.

I can even relate to them in understanding how they might feel that my place is lesser than them I can relate to that I can understand it and I can let them know what's actually happening and help them come to a place of recognition.

Personal Development vs. Aging

So, all of this has come about over years of personal development, aging, and honestly I think it has more to do with age than personal development.

Personal development is definitely a wonderful gift, but like a therapeutic tool, sometimes you can go around and around until you actually simply develop out of whatever it is that you are developing so maybe I did do it through personal development but I honestly think I did wake up one day and just thought you know what I don't do this anymore I'm not gonna be

I've worked for other people.

I'm currently an entrepreneur and I think that offers a lot of confidence in who I am as well.

I think when you really have to put yourself out there to earn a living, you completely change the game on your personal development because

You have to relate to other people of all different backgrounds if you have a public business you are relating to many people different backgrounds and it's so fun I love it. I wanted to put out there in this question if you are interested in becoming an entrepreneur and you don't even know where to start maybe you've tried in the past and it just didn't work I want to tell you that I do part of my business is around network marketing.

I love it it's it's part of any entrepreneurial business honestly to network and market within your network so if that is something that you're interested in learning more about I would love to share this with you so you can beautify from the inside out.

It's amazing so if you're interested in that kind of stewardship for your business if you have a small business like I have an online business and I do this other business.

So if you're interested in that, let me know.

You can message me on Instagram. My handle is @beautifyfaceyoga.

Welcome and settle in.

I want to begin with a quote by the Buddha.

What you believe you become.

What does that mean to you?

What do you believe?

What do you believe about beauty in particular?

Because that's why you found me as you're thinking about beautifying.

What do you think about beauty?

Sometimes it's fun to think philosophically about ideas like this because it helps you to better understand yourself and your position around whatever it is.

In this case, what do you think about beauty?

I love asking this question to my clients because it helps me to understand just exactly the path that they're looking to take because the services that I offer are pretty simple and practical.

I help people beautify from the inside out with exercise practices, face yoga, body yoga, nutrition, nourishment and supplementation with whole plants. So that's what I do.

And I think it's really important because I believe beauty is essential.

Beauty is essential to me and I know a lot of people who find aesthetics to be important to them.

What about you?

So whether you're looking for things to be symmetrical in your home or you like that intentional misfit look, just an intentional asymmetry, you know whatever your style is it's something different but beauty you know as it is in the eye of the beholder beauty is essential in nature it's part of nature right it's also a common denominator in the way of….

love how we find love our match our matches whoever you know however many loves that you've had beauty in your view was part of that because in nature we're always orienting to a mate toward survival it's just in it's hardwired in our DNA to survive.

The reason that this is coming up there are a number of reasons actually but one of the reasons is I recently had a conversation with an old friend of mine who we were talking about Tantra and the practical nature of the prostate in a man, which is really set up for a number of reasons but in terms of longevity, the prostate remains vital for men when they are able to express it regularly. This is kind of an odd topic around beauty. But the thing about this is that's one of the reasons men have problems when they're older with the prostate: if it is stagnant energetically. Alas, there are number of reasons for prostate issues, including environmental reasons, nutritional reasons, but one thing is men need is to beautify inside out (with healthy organs), so we survive as a species.

Survival and attraction.

Sometimes we forget about these things and we get caught up in the emotion of love and having a baby and all of that sort of thing. But it really is about the survival of our species. So I think that's interesting personally.

The reason I bring beauty into that particular context is around the mating ritual that all animals do it's about finding chemistry with another animal another person in this case we're talking about people.

“Beauty is in the eye of the beholder”

  • Margaret Wolfe Hungerford, Molly Bawn

Beauty and attraction are part of a mating ritual so there's some connection there with animalistic qualities when we consider beauty and what you believe beauty to be. My belief in beauty is oriented to nature so I love natural beauty. I love seeing the natural angle of a person’s face, the natural highlights of a person’s hair, intellect, and now natural to me isn't all the way natural I'm okay with things like:

  • plucking hair

  • dyeing hair

Intrinsic beauty and invasive procedures.

I have a certain threshold, but I do like when people make an effort and try to look beautiful in whatever way it is for them. Unkempt and disheveled doesn’t work for me, unless it’s intentional. After all, you can even make these aesthetics look polished in its own accord.

With the idea is that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. So if I have a friend or someone in my world who does invasive procedures for beautification rituals.

I'm not going to judge them.

Because that is not what I do… I do face yoga and self-love practices to stay on that natural continuum that I have. However, I do color my hair. Does that mean that's an invasive procedure? I am not sure about this definition of “invasive”.

I like to ask this question because sometimes I'm on social media and certain beauty experts or face yoga experts who place judgements on people who are doing invasive procedures. I just want to give a shout out to holding space for everyone’s idea of beauty. I have I know people in my life who do invasive procedures and I really don't want to alienate them because that's their choice. They get to live their life they get to uphold their standards of beauty in their own unique way. I don't have any business condemning them. That's not for me. I just I feel like I need to add that in here to this idea of “what do you believe in beauty” because it is a wide continuum.

I know a lot of people get tattoos which are beautiful I don't have a tattoo. I'm probably not going to get one and that's okay. To my tattoo friends you are great.. it's beautiful and I admire it you. You know, you have a higher threshold for pain than I do. Maybe you're able to withdraw the senses more than me. I practice yoga every day so this question is really an idea, a thought around what do you find beautiful, right?

How do you contrast that as the idea of beauty in the eye of the beholder and including space for folks who are able to do the things that they want to do to beautify themselves?

So I just want to invite that into my space.

I hope you have a wonderful day.

I would love for you to message me on Instagram.

My handle is beautifyfaceyoga.

And if you want to engage with me about this podcast, it would be a pleasure.

Thank you so much.

Bye-bye-bye.

I had a birthday last week. I recorded this the day after warm and fuzzy feelings of family, connecting, and peace in my heart.

In a stream of consciousness thoughts that I am sharing with you, I realize that being in my 50s doesn’t mean that I have it all sorted out. If anything, things are beginning to expand in a way far beyond sorting. I would love to hear from you if you are the same.

Reflections

It has been a time of deep reflection in all aspects of my life. With a growing business, a changing family landscape, I realize that this time next year, my daughter will be away at college on my birthday, and well, I’ve become a little weepy. You see, I am one of those moms who stayed home with my family. The reasons were more personal than for them. I needed to stay home with them to re-live a childhood that I never had. It’s all a bit cringe-worthy, in all honesty. However, I know I am not alone in this path and may as well own up to it the way a good Gen-X mama should.

Fast forward 18 years and I not only owe a debt of gratitude to my kind and generous husband who understands this position of mine. I also see grounded children who are flying high into their lives in all of the right ways. Maybe it worked. Maybe our recipe for parenting in our unique ways just may have worked. Fingers crossed. Touch wood. Four leaf clovers and all.

Time Reconciliation

Now, I am reconciling another part of my life. The life that wasn’t lived and now the compression of building a career for myself in a way that needs to move fast for all of us. Flying high into life and my desire to continue my support to burgeoning young adult activities like college, cars, and all of the American things we do. Conan Grey concert tickets, fancy Adidas shoes, and the list continues.

What I do know in this reconciliation chat with myself that I am sharing in this podcast is that I do need to focus on my time management skills. It’s come to pass that I have really shored up the absolute necessary time for my family at this point in our family development, we approach my husband and I being empty-nesters. This means that I want to soak up every moment when my kids will have me in their life today, tomorrow, and in the future (when they have moved on to careers, travels, and whatever they decide on).

For anyone in this same position, maybe you will feel some camaraderie. If you are in this position, I would love to hear from you in my community, here, at Substack! It would be a treat!

This is your day! Listen and get inspired about how to return to your health goals ignited at the beginning of the year. Maybe you simply want to do this now. Whatever your goals are, as a wellness coach, face & body yoga teacher, I am excited to invite you into my world of IMMERSION. Join me to immerse your mind, body, and soul into a dynamic accountability group that offers a multifaceted approach, including LIVE lessons with a personal wellness coach (ahem, that’s me).

Read on to learn more about WHY this works and how you can get involved!

Supported by science.

Accountability has been researched and supported by many medical organizations for healing and making healthy change in the body. One of the most classic support systems found to help folks with addiction and their partners/families, are these: Alcoholic Anonymous, and Al-Anon. While this may or may not be the goal that you have to overcome, the history and chronicled support of the 12-step program to let go of alcohol and other addictive drugs has been recognized. Al-Anon shows the same type of accountability to support network of the addictive individual to be a successful example of an accountability group that also works to elevate health.

Another great support network designed around accountability are popular diet and weight loss programs. Some of which provide food, do show to offer some benefits. Here is why: accountability.

The accountability portion of a meal-plan diet surrounded by its own language of a point system cultivates a culture that is self-sustaining, as long as participants show up and do the work for the end goal. This study from last year highlights, “For some participants, ongoing support and accountability was essential for long-term success.” There are many other studies supporting the benefits of accountability for not achieving health goals, but also for sustaining them.

I admire this study that shows the efficacy of working with an accountability health coach to help sustain and realize weight loss goals. Additionally, this study shares that accountability for patients overcoming obesity did best with an accountability group and coaching.

What about accountability with technology?

Additional use of technology also has promise in studies that see the instant ability to self-regulate with the support of an app can foster depth in achieving results and holding steady with them long term. This human adaptation to our recent technology jump to rediscover healthy living through assistance of an app is not surprising, right?

Also, Dr. Dean Ornish, with 40 years of research with University of California San Francisco Medical Center, offers a proven program that relies on a library of exercise and wellness classes to support lifestyle habits primarily for those with cardiovascular disease. He has a number of published research articles and books highlighting the benefits of the supportive nature of group accountability.

Why does this matter?

The reason I share all of this research with you is to highlight how and why accountability works. In Immersion 2.0, we have structured this program to better facilitate our work to realize YOUR goals! We want you to succeed. We even add the plant-based nutrition that is foundational for your health and wellness.

If you didn’t know supplementation is also an important part of each and every person’s diet, take note! Many doctors support this claim, including the celebrated Dr. Steven Gundry, author of the Plant Paradox. Inside his book, we find the clarity and wisdom within the articulation of a cardiovascular & immune systems specialist who understands the limited bioavailability of plants as a resource for absorption in our daily diet.

From soil depletion, and the evolution of a population of people who have quickly begun to rely on pharmaceutical drugs to minimize anxiety, control blood pressure, and to organize cholesterol in our bodies, it is clear that plant based supplements curated to include a range of up to 30 fruits and veg in each capsule can help the modern microbiome which is depleted from a processed diet. This book is a complex journey into the molecular details of nourishment and how our immune system responds to foods. I drop it here to underscore the necessity of plant based additions into your daily diet.

Why Immersion for healthy habits?

Within IMMERSION, you re-discover your energy and restore the gut with nourishing plant-based NSF-certified plant nutrition. You see without this, you won’t be able to move quickly into a state of lowered inflammation and a highly nourished condition that you can realize within this 42 program. This is important to support your wellness and beauty goals! It’s a requirement for me that we get you healthy from the inside out. This is the best way I have found to move into your next level health quickly. I work with individuals 1:1 with the Healthstyle Emporium (HSE) and this is proven within our collective of thousands of customers. Whole plant nourishment matters to realize your health goals of: slimming down, having more energy, higher-level brain function, a healthy mindset, glowing skin, and all of the reasons you are here to Beautify!

Community Support

This is the accountability piece that is fun for me! I love the HSE community. We are a diverse group of wellness coaches from around the world. We bring a myriad of holistic health disciplines to your health goals. Together, we support a forum developed by a number of health pros: nurses, psychologists, IIN health coaches, naturopaths, professional athletes, pilates teachers, personal trainers, nutritionists, yoga teachers, and so many more holistic professionals.

I love being a part of a health collaborative of mostly women who can answer questions that are out of my field of specialization. All of our clients are invited into the Immersion forum to learn and be challenged around your:

  • hydration

  • nourishment

  • mindset

  • movement

  • wellness

  • nervous system health

Immersion 2.0: Highlight Focus On the Nervous System

This year, we are focusing a big part of our programming on nurturing the nervous system. In Ayurveda and Yoga, we understand the energetic part of our body’s nervous system to rule the efficacy of our overall body’s function. Responding to a challenge to realize health goals with the attendance to your nervous system is an intentional way to ensure that you feel better each and everyday of this experience.

Inside Immersion, we have so many challenges that will reset your nervous system every single day. Reboot your sleep and hydration with the support of coaching and our group, along with the forum that entitles you to nutritionist-curated meal plans and recipes for everyone from the omnivore to vegan friends! I love the recipes and this go-to platform from which I can wander. I don’t have to look randomly for healthy recipes online and for this, alone, I am so grateful for this program and the HSE’s library of additional recipes and lifestyle support.

In short, this is for anyone who loves health and wellness and wants to refresh with the nourishment and support! It’s also for anyone who wants to lose weight, get fit, and return to a state of balance. Find your flow with me through accountability wellness coaching.

It’s fun, proven to work, and I use this gorgeous platform along with my wellness coaching because it is not only supportive and sustaining to your health, but is also stylish. If you are the type of person who likes to shop in chic stores or dine in posh trendy restaurants, you will love the aesthetic of the HSE!

I had my own platform when I joined and decided to let it go and offer 1:1 wellness coaching and use this, instead. It’s been a dream! I love offering this to my people because it is affordable.

Have a wander yourself in the IMMERSION portal. Our founders are based in Australia, so you get an international flair within the content on the platform. It’s fun for someone like me who used to travel so often and now find myself grounded with a growing family. If you like what you see, book a call with me at the button below to learn more about becoming a member. Together, we can see if this program and my coaching are the right fit for you. It has to be right for you!

I have been a fan of Jessi Marshall since her IG followers were in the hundreds! The IG algorithm understands me better than Nordstrom does. You see, over the years, I have pieced together outfits with funky fits. Stores like Nordstrom tend to showcase petite clothing that doesn’t represent my personal culture, which is to look on trend and excited. The clothes I find in traditional department stores are mostly simply color schemes, or cropped pants. Fitted proper clothing extends for the petite woman from 5’4” to 4’10” or below this range. For those of us below 5’4” this still requires alterations.

Luckily, the thrift stores are my spaces for finding curated items that may be pre-shrunk. It’s true! I also sometimes shop in the children’s department of some stores, especially the sale racks. However, a few stores you will see in my wardrobe over and over again like J. Crew, Banana Republic, and Boden. Each of these have stylish and pretty good range of items to bring together a presentably stylish outfit. However, it is fun to live beyond three labels and I simply am maybe the most excited follower that Jessi has. Because I can’t wait until the new line launches! I will be making some orders, that is for sure!

Clothes that fit.

I have had a tough time over the years finding clothes that fit me well. When I was young, I was spoiled by my mother’s sewing skills and her discreet love and satisfaction to see my sister and me in clothes that fit. I think about the little purses she made for us and feel delighted to know that I have a memory of a purse made just for me. A true act of love.

After moving to California, I had to find tailors and folks who would do alterations for me. It consumed my brain no more than my clothes do. However, it has always felt a bit different, I imagine, to the feelings of someone who can go to a regular clothing store and buy something off the rack with the feeling that it will fit. Knowing it will fit… I have never felt that way.

I’ve thought about cultivating a culture to support other petite women like me. However, I just didn’t get to that idea yet, I am digging into other topics. For this reason, I am so grateful that fashion pioneers like Jessi Marshall are leaning into their dreams of fashion for petite women! The best part about Jessi’s work is that I adore the sophisticated style of her designs. I find her brand to look unique to her own vibration. I want to bring some of this vibration into my own brand!

A bonus that Jessi offers on her site is a downloadable style guide! This has been transformative for me (truly), because I’ve always been drawn to low-waisted jeans. However, after some careful studying of the Petite Culture Style Guide, I see and now add high-waisted pants to my personal repertoire. It truly offers a visual of length in the lower part of the body. I’ve learned many things in this style guide and recommend that you check it out!

आनन्द, Ananda garments which fit well.

The great news is Jessi’s Petite Culture is previewing her upcoming release of her first line of clothing focused on petite women’s culture. If you are under 5’4”, you are about to be in ananda, आनन्द, in Sanskrit means bliss. Go there, feel it. There are few things that are better than the feel of sustainable fashion that fits on top of your skin. But what may be the best part of well fitted clothing is that lush awareness that you are indeed unique and deserving of beautiful garments which fit well.

Look for Jessi’s line to be released in the coming months. Instagram is a great place to stay up to date on Petite Culture developments. And don’t forget that you can also sign up for a free petite style guide & exclusive bonus opportunities.

Confidence radiates in the Petite Culture brand.

Inside this interview, I enjoyed learning about Jessi’s background and how making a career change can be a welcome shift at any age. I admire Jessi’s wise professionalism and ease in which she shares her vision. Inside this podcast, she shares her beautification tips and ideas for looking your best. I find her absolute style to highlight her obvious comfort in this role of leadership. If you are like me you can’t help but wonder if Jessi’s comfort comes from the well-fitting clothes.

The best part about Jessi is that her personal style is so en pointe that it is hard to believe she is just establishing a brand. Jessi reflects that inner wisdom that discrete confidence boldly radiates.

It was a pure honor to get to interview this up and coming star, Jessi Marshall, designer and founder, Petite Culture. Explore her world here:

As you venture forward into your goals, you may feel the tug of time changing your perspective and adding new variations of goals. You may need to account for others’ needs in your life. Additions of stress and tension can feel as if it is taking over your personal experience to the point that your dreams are out of focus.

This podcast is a bold invitation for you to return to your dream chasing. Allow yourself to create space so you can hold your dream closer. At this time of the year, so many have dropped their New Year resolutions. You may have had to shift your aims to include a new jag that just happened. Whatever has come up for you, settle into this short outline about the necessity of bringing duality into the daily experience.

Equanimity means that we hold both sides of our life into focus. When things are real and complicated, we know that there is both negative and positive influences at play . It can present opportunities for new perspectives. Equanimity brings in a ray of absoluteness to offer all sides on which you may leverage new strength, awareness, and insight.

Inside this pod, I share about my personal journey of holding positivity into such a position that it became a defense mechanism so I could move forward in life. After experiencing traumas that required me to lean into positivity to cope and to survive, I was doing pretty well. However, I developed in a way where I could see that survival wasn’t really living.

It was through Insight Meditation at SF Insight that became aware of and cultivated equanimity in my experience. It has changed me in a way that I didn’t foresee. However, that is the brilliance of trusting the process and allowing yourself to transform when it is needed. It isn’t always easy, that is for sure. However, allowing space to hold equanimity has cleared the path for a new career, returning to the working world after so many years of being a mom and advocate for my kids, as well as discovering how I truly feel in my body.

I won’t spoil it all. Have a listen and let me know how this resonates with you! I would love to learn!

Beautify your world.Discover a brand new wayto reveal your truth.

Inside this episode, learn a little bit more about me and why I seek to beautify the world through health and beauty rituals. This topic is never-ending for me and came to reality through my own personal health developments. I decided to share these principles, again, from the beginning of a mid-life transition. This brought a time when I just wasn’t sure how this would shape up.

Initially I started a brand, Yogini Prana. This was my first idea about how I could bring yoga to women. However, the discovery and learning of The Face Yoga Method brought a new opportunity to my business. Not only did it give me a new excited turn in my path, but it invigorates everyone who I teach. I love holding space for other women to re-discover the shape of their faces.

With loving touch and healing connection with our bodies, we can embolden our faces with tone, circulation, and vitality with the face yoga poses and massage that actually work! Additional focus on skin care and lifestyle practices bring my Ayurveda background into the mix. Additionally, I offer wellness coaching on a beautiful health platform, the Healthstyle Emporium.

Look for more information in coming episodes about healing face yoga and ways that you can uplift the face naturally with isolating facial muscles. It’s all here!

As we continue to move through a holiday season in a way toward joy, it can’t be left unnoticed that there is a duality of war and pain for so many in our global community.

This 52 minute exit into your own internal landscape elevates your vibration. As you calm yourself, soothe yourself, and simply be natural, you enter a field of awareness that my help you connect with the greater consciousness. I write “may” because it just depends how many layers of stress you may be holding in your body. It may come to pass that you may need all three sessions to reconnect with your soul.

That being said, it is an honorable endeavor to elevate your vibration! Together, we can combine our vibes and elevate that of the planet. She needs us right now. Mother Earth has a lot of clearing and cleansing that it does with trees and plants. However, there is only so much photosynthesis can do to clear the air, water, and the minds of humans.

Allow this gentle space to bring you into that field of awareness each time you meditate. For when you do meditate, you get closer to the greater consciousness, which is what humans are meant to do and to be. At least in my view.

What is your view? What other things do you do to elevate the planet? I would love to learn about your perspective. Drop me a note sometime!

Warmly,

Angela Rosoff

I recorded this podcast to cast some light on the variance of traditions and modernity around applying Ayurveda in your lifestyle today. Modern approaches to Ayurveda often incorporate traditional Ayurvedic principles with contemporary lifestyles, including plant-based dining. Ayurveda is an ancient system of medicine that originated in India around 5,000 years ago. Emphasizing a holistic approach to health and well-being, it categorizes individuals into three doshas (Vata, Pitta, and Kapha) and seeks to balance these energies for optimal health.

Here are 10 modern approaches to Ayurveda with a focus on plant-based foods:

  • Dosha-Based Plant-Based Diet:

  • Identify your predominant dosha (Vata, Pitta, or Kapha) through consultation with an Ayurvedic practitioner.

  • Tailor your plant-based diet to balance your dosha. For example, Vata individuals may benefit from warm, grounding foods (think stews and soups this time of year), while Pitta individuals may thrive on cooling, hydrating foods (think about ingredients like cilantro or kale). You can learn alll about these kinds of foods when you work with an Ayurvedic Practitioner, as this work is customized for each person. There is no other way to do this properly.

  • Seasonal Eating:

  • Consider seasonal variations in your diet, as Ayurveda emphasizes eating according to the seasons. Fresh, local, and seasonal plant-based foods are encouraged for optimal balance. What is growing in your area right now that you can have as the center of your meals?

  • Mindful Eating:

  • Ayurveda places importance on the way you eat, not just what you eat. Practice mindful eating by savoring each bite, chewing thoroughly, and being present during meals. Avoid eating in motion (driving, biking, or standing).

  • Spices and Herbs:

  • Incorporate Ayurvedic spices and herbs into your plant-based meals. Turmeric, cumin, coriander, ginger, and fennel are commonly used for their health-promoting properties. Spices, herbs, and all ingredients is best considered to be medicinal in quality.

  • Ayurvedic Cooking Methods:

  • Choose cooking methods that align with Ayurvedic principles. For example, favoring steaming or sautéing over deep-frying can help maintain the nutritional integrity of plant-based foods. This is especially helpful for all doshas, which are aggravated by oily foods from deep-frying.

  • Balancing Agni (Digestive Fire):

  • Ayurveda emphasizes maintaining a strong digestive fire (agni). Include foods that support digestion, such as ginger, lemon, and digestive spices. Avoid overeating and ensure that your meals are well-spaced throughout the day. Think about eating regular meals, but slightly less… think 80% full and you have the perfect recipe to protect agni!

  • Individualized Approach:

  • Recognize that Ayurveda is not a one-size-fits-all approach. It considers individual constitutions, and what works for one person may not work for another. Customize your plant-based diet based on your unique needs and preferences. Working with an Ayurvedic practitioner can help guide you on your way. In this relationship, it can be a short term project with seasonal tune ups.

  • Herbal Supplements:

  • Consider incorporating Ayurvedic herbal supplements to address specific health concerns or imbalances. Consult with an Ayurvedic practitioner to determine the right supplements for your individual needs. This can offer a revived baseline of partnership with your ecosystem to move into a state of vitality.

  • Yoga and Meditation:

  • Ayurveda is often complemented by practices such as yoga and meditation. These practices contribute to overall well-being and can enhance the benefits of a plant-based Ayurvedic lifestyle. The approach to tension relief and self-awareness in these disciplines offers an elevated experience for practitioners, cultivating agni (digestive fire) and the goal of vitality: ojas (essence or juice of life)

  • Consultation with Ayurvedic Practitioner:

  • For personalized guidance, consider consulting with an Ayurvedic practitioner. They can provide insights into your dosha, health concerns, and offer specific recommendations tailored to your individual needs and desires for your health!

Lifestyle is Medicine.

Remember that a plant-based Ayurvedic approach is not just about the food you eat but also about the lifestyle choices you make. It's essential to embrace a holistic perspective that includes diet, exercise, mindfulness, and other aspects of well-being. While Ayurveda offers animal products for healing and fortifying your body’s organs and systems, I seek to share the conflict in the Vedas and the current access to animal products. It is often difficult to appropriate products and foods made from animals who were well attended to. Commercial farmed animal products contain the energy of the animal. We find that stressed environments for raised animals product a product dissimilar to products from animals raised in peaceful environments.

Consider the states of energy you include in your diet.

During the writing of the Vedas, we understand that the times between the origins and now have included a letting go of the days of nurturing cows as if they are gods to be worshipped. We understand that poultry is not often running freely on a farm being a chicken and having the sense of awareness about a chicken’s natural life. We also understand that the oceans are no longer a vital place for sea animals in many areas.

With all of this in mind, it requires a thoughtful person connected with nature to consider the use of the age old wisdom of eating red meat, poultry, eggs, fish, and dairy products. The energy inside the animal becomes your own matter when eaten. It goes without saying that farmed animals my have unnatural hormones or natural hormones like cortisol and adrenaline from fear in their environment.

All of these fussy details are important to me and what I eat. I daresay it may very well be important to you, too. Nourishing your body requires some intention these days. With soil being a concern, you may want to consider fortifying your body with herbs and even nourishing supplements to add more vitality to your body, mind, and spirit.

Dr. Usha Nagavarapu has an extensive background in science research, particularly in the field of dermatology. A Stanford researcher, Usha, shares her story of enrolling in US studies in college from India. The ease and the challenges are revealed as she shares her wisdom around skincare and Ayurveda in this podcast interview. You can watch the video by clicking the button below.

One of the things I admire about her skincare line, Surrasa, is the combination of herbal actions from both Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) modalities. It is clear from her science background and dedication to continuous learning, that Dr. Usha Nagavarapu employs the energetics of ingredients which both push and enhance science-proven ingredients like hyaluronic acid. This brings a kind of skin nourishment to your skincare routine that you may not know that you’ve been missing.

Until you try Surrasa skin care products, you can’t fully appreciate the wisdom and research-backed ingredients because I’ve never tried anything like these! I particularly love the Santi line! This is perfect for sensitive skin and perfect to apply after treatments, for an overnight boost in moisture, and for common skin inflammations.

What is even more amazing is that you are in the hands of a dermatologic researcher and an Ayurvedic Practitioner (she finishes her Ayurveda Doctor certification soon). As a customer, you can ask questions and work with her through a virtual or live consultation to fine tune your health in a way that you just can’t duplicate when buying skincare products in the department store.
