In this episode we used some jargon and acronyms. In case you’re not familiar, I wanted to list those here for you:
AOV -- Average Order Value
CRO -- Conversion Rate Optimization
KPI -- Key Performance Indicators
ROAS -- Return On Ad Spend
UGC -- User Generated Content
And where Chase mentions “GitHub repositories” -- GitHub is a place that developers hang out, share ideas and code, and collaborate on their projects. It’s a super techie environment, and not a requirement for ecomm people.

Selling with Words and Numbers
Today we’re talking about using the words in your marketing to sell more. We’re also going to talk about reading the numbers that the words produce. That way you can make better decisions in your marketing and advertising.
In the show I promised two things:
Aside from collecting advertising from other sellers -- which you should do if you’re serious about your advertising -- you can learn from other copywriting experts.
Get on mailing lists (online and offline). Study what’s working, and what isn’t. Find out why.
Here are some classic books… books that are my favorites that I turn to over and over again. (No affiliate commission on these recommendations -- just get the books).
Eugene Schwartz, “Breakthrough Advertising”
https://breakthroughadvertisingbook.com
This is the best price ever for this book. Used to be you could only buy this book for between $600 and $1200 dollars US. And it was STILL a bargain at that price.
The next two are on Amazon, so you don’t need links. Just search there for these.
Robert Collier, “The Robert Collier Letter Book”
Claude Hopkins, “Scientific Advertising” and “My Life In Advertising” (two books usually published together in one volume).

Kim Krause Schwalm was always a marketer who could write copy. She spent more than 13 years in the corporate world in various marketing positions—from Brand Manager to Publisher to launching and running the Healthy Directions supplement business and growing it to more than $23 million in sales within 3 years—before she started her freelance copywriting career in 1998.
Now more than two decades later, Kim has built a reputation as one of the top A-level direct response copywriters in the country. She's racked up dozens of successful direct mail and online controls, beating legendary copywriters like Jim Rutz and Parris Lampropoulus and becoming the first female copywriter to get a Boardroom control.
Kim writes winning copy for leading companies such as Soundview, Bottom Line (Boardroom), Green Valley Natural Solutions, National Geographic, and many others both in the United States and from England to Germany to Singapore.
She holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Statistics from Miami University in Ohio, and earned her MBA in Marketing from Loyola University Maryland. Kim credits her creative and analytical mind and marketing know-how for giving her a must-needed edge in today’s increasingly competitive copywriting world—and wants to help others gain the same “marketing-savvy” advantage.
When you sign up for Kim’s wildly popular emails and become one of her Copy Insiders, you’ll get her incredibly valuable, five-in-one “Ultimate A-List Copywriter’s Promo Checklist”.

Today’s episode is about gaining control in your marketing… and control is almost everyone’s favorite topic when it comes to business.
Today I’m talking about means, and ends. We’re looking at what you have control over, and what you don’t.
Frankly there is a lot of misinformation spread about what you have control over.
All of those people you see online talking about scaling to a 7-figure business.
That’s great — if you do what you can control.
Dreaming about the dollars just won’t get you there.
But what you do have control over gives you power to control the business… And that’s what we’re talking about today.

Today’s episode features five marketing steps you can do to promote your store. My partner and I just got back from a weekend away. One of our stops included a trip to a local alpaca farm, Laurel Run Alpacas, in Hawthorne Florida. We got to meet the alpacas, and we had a tour of the farm with owner Kristin Schoenberger. Kristin cares for her small herd and manages all of the shearing and fiber production from her farm. Her beautiful fibers can be found at https://www.sunshinestateyarns.com/. If you're crafty and you're into fiber arts check out Laurel Run Alpacas and Kristin's fiber products.
Kristin and I were talking business after the tour. I was thinking of all of the small business owners who could have benefited from listening to our conversation.
So this episode is dedicated to online store owners who just want an outline of the basics… what to do when you’re just starting, or when you find you’re ready to grow your business.
Oh, and at one point in the episode I referred to alpaca fibers as yarn. I’ve been corrected and I won’t make that slip up again!
And keep reading for more small business help…

I had a ton of fun preparing for this quick conversation with Pete. He joined me from a set, between projects on a shoot. So this is a short but power-packed episode. What ideas does this conversation give you about video production for your brand?
You can find Pete and the team at https://KestumBilt.com. There you’ll find stories about their client work, and examples that are just stunning.

Today’s guest is David Gibson, of Propeller Media Works. David leads a team of A-level professionals who deliver creative ADA compliant websites that entice, engage, and convert.
They are proactive partners who steer clients away from danger when it comes to website design. Yesterday it was mobile and responsive design. Today it is website accessibility to provide Sect. 508 and ADA compliance. Under the brand Accessibility.Works, they have a dedicated team of accessibility specialists - each with over 18 years in digital accessibility - to provide best-practice WCAG audits, remediation guidance, training, and policy consulting.
David and I had a deep conversation about making your site accessible. We talked about some of the pitfalls in the shark infested waters of accessibility.
My own interest in the topic is personal. I have a few friends who use screen readers to navigate their online work.
One friend lost his entire business when the tools he was using overnight removed support for any screen readers. He was devastated and it took years for him to recover his business.
David shared a blog post called “Why Accessibility Overlay Solutions Fail to Protect or Serve”.
https://www.accessibility.works/blog/avoid-accessibility-overlay-tools-toolbar-plugins/
About a half-hour into our conversation, we discussed Schema markup, and whether screen readers can read this data to help users. I was amazed at the complexity of the answer, and learned about ARIA (Accessible Rich Internet Applications). In the time that’s passed since this recording it’s possible that Schema markup can be used in accessibility measures. So please make sure you’re using all available tools,so you can support people who use your site.
Learn about the web accessibility IRS tax credit for accessibility work on your site. (This is not financial or tax advice. Check with your tax advisor to learn if this tax credit will work for you.)
