In the season finale, Don’t Believe the Hype, we chop it up about a couple of current hot-button topics. The mid-term elections and the Anti-Semitism (or lack thereof).

The results of the mid-term elections and exit polls revealed a lot of unsettling information about what our country cares about and who they want to represent in our government. As the dust continues to clear, it is still a sobering reality that it’s more about power than what’s best for the people of this country.

Also, Ye’ and Kyrie Irvin’s Twitter account has unintentionally put Semitism front and center as both have received an intense backlash and protest, which has cost them significantly. What’s troubling is when you stop and listen (and read) what both of them said concerning Semitism, it raises questions about the term “Anti-Semitic,” only referring to the Jewish community.

The Hype society has put around those divisive triggers only reinforces the notion that we listen to respond instead of listening to understand. Let’s talk about it.

In today’s episode, This is How We Do it; we continue the conversation about the Predominantly White Institution (PWI) homecoming experience and why we, PWI alumni) don’t seem to give the same energy that HBCU alums give to their Homecoming.

The truth is that HBCU Homecomings are the measuring stick we use to measure how good or bad our Homecoming is. That’s because most “Blacklidy Black” PWI alumni have attended several HBCU homecomings and experienced Black Excellence at an unmatched level. However, the experience falls short because you are not an alumnus of the university, and that is needed to appreciate Homecoming at that school truly.

PWI alums need to embrace their Homecoming and appreciate the place that nurtured their friendships, relationships, and experiences that molded them into the person they are today.

“H-OM-EC-O-MING! It’s Homecoming y’all! It’s Homecoming Y’all!”
(Borrowed from WSSU)
We are right in the middle of Homecoming season. Our Social Media is full of content from various HBCU Homecomings across the country. However, you don’t see much content from Black people who went to PWIs. (Predominately White Institutions) Those institutions also have the tradition of Homecoming, and those of us who are undergraduate alumni of PWI seem not to give the same energy as our HBCU counterparts.

In this episode, We Got Our Own Thang!, I share what my PWI Homecoming means to me and why I feel it’s ok for us to appreciate how HBCUs do Homecoming but be Proud about and celebrate our Homecoming and the memories and experience gained from attending a PWI.

In today’s episode, Move the Crowd, we look at what it means to move the crowd enough to have a seat at the table.

Out of all the freedoms we hold dear, voting is the right that, in theory, gives us a seat at the table regarding the ability to influence how this country moves forward. Unfortunately, African-Americans did not enjoy this rightfully until the Voting Rights Act of 1965. Before that, we were victims of discriminatory practices that prevented us from having a seat at the table and influencing the policy that would’ve most likely given us assess to the liberty the Constitution affords its citizens.

Today, it seems as if we are turning back the clock, and politicians are creating new voter laws and finding ways to discriminate through discouragement. Our conversation reminds us why we need to continue to Move the Crowd and get and keep our seats at the table.

Have you ever wondered why churches, businesses, social groups, and organizations think the way they think and wondered where it came from? Have you ever asked, “if all these people are Christians, why do they have different denominations and ideals about God?”

Chances are that what they think and believe is derived from theology and a doctrine developed by one person. They convinced people that how they interpreted its meaning is the only meaning, and it expanded to where everything you can imagine has a theology and a doctrine that they follow.

In today’s episode, You Must Learn, we chop it up in laypeople’s language about the role that theology and doctrine play in every aspect of our lives and how we must learn what both concepts mean and strengthen our personal theology and doctrine that we Stand for something and don’t fall for anything.

In this episode, Public Service Announcement, we circle back to a hot topic back in July. Many of us were stunned by a sermon by Creflo Dollar and his change in his belief about tithing. In essence, he confessed that what he had taught and written about the theology of tithing was incorrect.

It sent good and bad shock waves throughout the world because he is one of the faces of the prosperity gospel. Creflo hadn’t too long been in the news for asking his congregation to give money so he could purchase a private plane.

Amid all the theological rebuke from his contemporaries, to the vitriol comments and commentary from church and Christianity critics, we found a perspective that focused more on the human rather than what he represents. This viewpoint serves as an announcement and insight to the rest of us as we evolve and move towards the person we want to be, and this perspective is worthy of conversation.

In today’s episode, All I Need, we talk with Eli Breeden, author of the book IF You Cook, I’ll Clean. His book shares an authentic perspective about what men say about their romantic relationships. His book gives women an unprecedented peek inside conversations that are designated “man code” without breaking the man code.

Like the beauty salon, the barbershop is not only a place where you get a fresh cut. It is a safe space for men to freely express themselves without fear of being misunderstood or not heard.

If You Cook, I’ll Clean shares honest conversations between barbers and clients on several aspects of their relationships with wives, fiancés, girlfriends, side chicks, and entanglements.

In today's episode, Blow the Whistle, we give a voice to what we think after watching the recently released movie, Honk for Jesus.

In recent years, the church, specifically the black church, has griped about how they are portrayed in all forms of media.  Pastors are often described as befools and crooks who only use their fame and status to trick people out of their money.

It was only a matter of time before a movie with enough push from the “machine” would take a “black famous” church scandal and bring it to the world in a satirical format.

However, it is often said that every joke has some truth, and today, we blow the whistle at some of those truths.  (See what I did there?)

In today’s episode, Fight the Power, we voice our thoughts about recent supreme court decisions, student debt relief, our democracy, and our government's message about what’s important to them.

We have discovered in this season of our lives that everything that has meaning to us will fall into one of four categories:  Faith, Family, Wealth, and Health.

These four categories are the pillars of who we are as a person and the foundation of the legacy we inspire to leave our children and our world with.

When these pillars are threatened, we will fight the powers that be to maintain the stability of our foundation and our legacy.

In today episode, My Life, we give voice to the internal struggle we have in the unfavorable moments of our life.

Many of us have made decisions to change careers, chase childhood dreams, and pursue things that we were passionate about but encouraged not to do.

In the midst of following your heart’s desire, you have arrived at the preverbal fork in the road.  Should I keep going or should I turn back.

Because we are older, we have to factor in time because we no longer have the time to waste on long term projects that may yield us nothing but disappointment and despair.

In this episode, Kick the Mathematics, we dive deeper into the subject of Economics with economic and entrepreneur guru Steward Hubbard. When it comes to economics, many of us have a surface-level understanding that we gained from having to take micro and macroeconomics classes during the enrollment of undergraduate studies. The concept that we identify with most is supply and demand mainly because we can correlate with the rising cost of products that we buy as consumers. However, we have discovered that economics has and continues to have a more significant influence on the decisions we make concerning our lives. Steward uses the economic impact of the war in Ukraine to enlighten us on the downstream effects of an economic crisis in the 70s and how it affected the way Generation X’s concept of wealth was shaped, and where it needs to move towards as we approach retirement.

Gem Drops:

· 08:40 - “Generation X and Economics”

· 13:00 - “Biggest Crisis of our generation”

· 18:00 - “How coming off the gold standard affected us”

· 21:00 - “Removing the US Dollar as the Global Universal Currency”
