This special episode is “livicated” to the legacy of Emperor Haile Selassie I of Ethiopia, who was born on July 23, 1892. He was the last Emperor of Ethiopia and a complex individual indeed.
Haile Selassie is a central figure in Rasta "livity".
I’ll be sharing some of his profound words along with music that reflects his significant impact on the world and Rasta culture. Steel Pulse is a roots reggae band from the Erdington area of Birmingham, England. They originally formed at Handsworth Wood Boys School, and were composed of David Hinds (lead vocals, guitar), Basil Gabbidon (lead guitar, vocals), and Ronald McQueen (bass); along with Basil's brother Colin briefly on drums and Mykaell Riley (vocals, percussion). Steel Pulse were the first non-Jamaican act to win the Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album**.

William Anthony Maragh (born 25 June 1963), also known as Super Cat, is a Jamaican dancehall/reggae artist who achieved widespread popularity during the late 1980s and early 1990s dancehall movement. His nickname, "Wild Apache", was given to him by his mentor Early B. Super Cat is considered one of the greatest artists in the history of the Jamaican dancehall scene. Born to an Afro-Jamaican mother and Indo-Jamaican father, Super Cat was raised in Kingston's tough Seivright Gardens neighborhood, then known as Cockburn Pen, home to ground-breaking artists like Prince Jazzbo and U-Roy**.
Here is Super Cat backed by the City Heat Band performing live in Jamaica in 1994.
Cat is in full form here. Cat hilariously threatens the promoter about his money before he begins the set...then he goes to work. This is a gem. Cat isn't politically correct, but he's entertaining.

Within dancehall folklore, there are many giants and there are some memorable clashes that have taken place. A clash is a musical war. Sometimes friendly, sometimes heated. This episode features a couple of legendary musical encounters.
STING 2000 - The late great Merciless takes on Ninjaman, Bounty Killer & Beenie Man.
STING 2001- The following year Ninjaman and Bounty Killer seek revenge on Merciless.
This one is a gem.

The Roots are an American hip hop band formed in 1987 by Tariq "Black Thought" Trotter and Ahmir "Questlove" Thompson in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States. The Roots serve as the house band on NBC's The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, having served in the same role on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon from 2009 to 2014.
The Roots are known for a jazzy and eclectic approach to hip hop featuring live musical instruments and the group's work has consistently been met with critical acclaim. ThoughtCo ranked the band #7 on its list of the 25 Best Hip-Hop Groups of All-Time, calling them "Hip-hop's first legitimate band."
In addition to the band's music, several members of the Roots are involved in side projects, including record production, acting, and regularly serving as guests on other musicians' albums and live shows.
The group released Things Fall Apart in 1999 (named after Things Fall Apart, a novel by Chinua Achebe, which in turn was named after a line from "The Second Coming" by W.B. Yeats). This was their breakthrough album, peaking at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 charts and earning a gold record, signifying U.S. sales of at least 500,000 units.
The album was eventually certified platinum **in April 2013.

Malcolm X (born Malcolm Little, later Malik el-Shabazz; May 19, 1925 – February 21, 1965) was an African-American Muslim minister and human rights activist who was a prominent figure during the civil rights movement. A spokesman for the Nation of Islam until 1964, he was a vocal advocate for black empowerment and the promotion of Islam within the black community. A posthumous autobiography, on which he collaborated with Alex Haley, was published in 1965.
Malcolm spent his adolescence living in a series of foster homes or with relatives after his father's death and his mother's hospitalization. He engaged in several illicit activities, eventually being sentenced to 10 years in prison in 1946 for larceny and breaking and entering. In prison he joined the Nation of Islam (adopting the name Malcolm X to symbolize his unknown African ancestral surname) and after his parole in 1952 quickly became one of the organization's most influential leaders. He was the public face of the organization for a dozen years, advocating for black empowerment and separation of black and white Americans, and criticizing Martin Luther King Jr. and the mainstream civil rights movement for its emphasis on nonviolence and racial integration. Malcolm X also expressed pride in some of the Nation's social welfare achievements, such as its free drug rehabilitation **program.
In the 1960s, Malcolm X began to grow disillusioned with the Nation of Islam, as well as with its leader Elijah Muhammad*. He subsequently embraced* Sunni Islam and the civil rights movement after completing the Hajj to Mecca*, and became known as "el-Hajj Malik el-Shabazz". After a brief period of travel across Africa, he publicly renounced the Nation of Islam and founded the Islamic Muslim Mosque, Inc. (MMI) and the Pan-AfricanOrganization of Afro-American Unity* (OAAU).**
On February 21, 1965, he was assassinated in New York City.
