Sarah Choujounian was one of the first nurses to speak up against the lockdowns in Canada in 2020. She was fired, was put under 5 investigations by the College of Nurses, one which has now turned into a disciplinary hearing that may have precedence and is critical to freedom of speech in nursing.
She was defamed internationally by the media, has received countless death threats, summons and even had the RCMP show up at her door. She is the co-founder of the now inactive Canadian Frontline Nurses, proud advocates for medical freedom.
Sarah is also the founder of Lighting Up Dark Corners, an organization aiming at empowering people to heal and rise above their mental health issues by going to the root cause of the problem and standing in their truth instead of numbing them with drugs and/or prescription medications.

My highlight of the week!! Today I had the absolute honour to go LIVE with the one and only David Ferrugio, podcast host of DEAD Talks. I have been following David for a while now, so I am truly excited to be sharing our conversation with you.
David Ferrugio engages death a little bit differently. Each new guest shares their experience in a way that shatters the âdonât talk about deathâ taboo. It's more than a Grief Podcast; it's a conversation about life.
Having lost his father on 9/11 when he was 12, he learned the importance of discussion and sharing other people's stories. Grief, loss, death can all start with a dialogue and his mission is to help people that have lost, that are grieving and those that haven't faced death yet through the words of his guests, who come from all walks of life: from grief experts like Claire Bidwell Smith, Ex-Combat Veteran Noah Galloway, hip hop artist Lil Xan, TV Host Megan Pormer, Comedian Gary Leli, TED Talks speaker Phil Cohen, TEDx conference speaker Angelo Merendino to the viral story and near death experience of Penny Wittbrodt.
"We seek to remove any stigmas in discussing death by making it a more ânormalâ conversation and a little less sad. Death is something we can all relate to yet itâs a topic, I find, more often than not uncomfortably discussed with an undercurrent of inevitability often avoided. I am no expert and sometimes I have no idea what I'm doing. I just want to hear from others who have something to say and share it with you. Dedicated to my father, David Francis Ferrugio and my family who carried me through it all."

Carrie E. Pierce has been writing professionally for over twenty years, most of which was spent writing acclaimed Health and wellness articles and books for Midlife readers. While catering to this mature audience, Carrie discovered there was a real need for quality childrenâs literature that could be enjoyed by parents and grandparents, too, as they read aloud to the youngsters in their lives.
Eager to fill this niche, she began crafting quality stories that contain important life lessons, written in a style that doesnât talk âdownâ to children but, instead, encourages them to learn new words and ask deep questions as they gain important tools for overcoming fear, pushing past loss and accepting themselves just as they are.
Carrie always speaks from experience, with an honest voice that holds nothing back. A red-headed, freckle-faced girl born in New Orleans and raised in Texas, Carrie found herself looking over fences, gazing at horizons, and wondering what was to be had âover there.â What adventures were there, just beyond her reach, to be discovered? And she longed and wondered. And then, after much faith, overcoming, and effort, she discovered. And felt the urge to share with young and old alike.
During the course of her life, Carrie has known great highs â and very deep lows. Sheâs attained her dream of working in the Film and TV industry. Sheâs been published many times and has also co-hosted two acclaimed, internationally syndicated radio shows. Sheâs seen dreams come true â and has also walked through very dark times of tragedy and heartbreak.
She walked with her dad as he bravely fought Lewy Body dementia â and lost. And just recently, her beloved Mom -and very best friend- succumbed to cancer, dying in Carrieâs arms.
Awful as these events were, theyâve provided Carrie with an even richer insight into the human heart and spirit, giving her wisdom and gentleness often lacking in todayâs world. These qualities are found throughout her books and articles- and are also evident in personal interactions with her.
Carrie lives in Idaho, surrounded by good friends, gorgeous scenery, and amazing people. When not writing, she enjoys snowshoeing, gardening, good food and wine â and dancing.

It is such a pleasure of bringing you a rather special episode of Unsilence Grief, side by side with Kate Morgan.
When Kate was diagnosed with stage 3 cancer at 45, she was dumbfounded. The loudest voice in her head shouted âI have finally created my best life. Why did this happen to me?â
It was these questions that led to an entirely unexpected career change. Despite her once shy personality, Kate decided to train to become a funeral and marriage celebrant, hoping to find more meaningful work.
In 2021 Kate co-founded Tomorrow Funerals, an Australian based start-up disrupting the traditional and outdated funeral industry. Tomorrow creates tailored memorial services in unique spaces: pubs, galleries or at home, not in old-fashioned funeral parlours. The focus is on storytelling and celebrating life in a very personal way.

Dr. Lynn Carey earned a doctorate in chiropractic and a bachelor's degree in nutrition from Life University. She owned a practice in Wilmington, Delaware, for eighteen years, and has traveled to Brazil and India. Dr. Carey loves empowering others to create their desired life of health, wealth, and perfect self-expression. Today, she stays busy pursuing her entrepreneurial dreams and homeschooling her teenage son.
Dr. Carey learned early about grief from the death of her father when she was 12. She gathered a lot of insight learning to heal herself after suffering with sickness and pain for many years. In her 18 years practicing as a chiropractor, Dr. Carey saw that chronic stress was the main issue for most people not healing. Chronic stress came from not enough time, not enough money, and not having passion or purpose in life. She knows, creating a desired lifestyle is the key to ultimate well-being.

And long before he was born, in 1966, he lost his paternal grandfather to suicide. In 2011, Joshua nearly attempted suicide due to feelings of hopelessness, a perceived lack of resources, multiple major life changes, stagnation in the grieving process, and undiagnosed and untreated health conditions, depression and anxiety. Thankfully, Joshua got help through counselling, friends, family, and persistence. Paul Zolman is the author of 'Love is God'. In His wisdom, He placed us in a variety of circumstances that require us to find our way back to His pure love. So, what qualifies Paul Zolman to speak about love? His childhood experience of the opposite of love. From that austere beginning, and the distaste it formed inside him, he searched for and eventually created a method that transformed his life from anger to loving everyone.
Growing up in a family of abuse, physical touch became his preferred love style, only because of the regularity. He could almost count on it. It was consistent. He came to think that was the way to express love. But deep inside, he knew that was a twisted belief. He wanted a better life for himself, which is why he created a paradigm shift that works. In this book, youâll find what helped Paul move from a childhood boot camp of abuse to being a person who loves everyone and can find good about anyone in any circumstance. This is truly the role of love.

Today we have Denise Dielwart with us, and I am excited to share her story.
In the aftermath of loss, finding a path forward can seem like an insurmountable challenge. Denise Dielwart's journey began in the shadow of profound grief after the loss of her husband in 2009. Dr. Momoko Uno was living in New York City when she received news that her mother was about to pass during the height of the pandemic while Australia was under lock down.
Fortunately she was able to find a flight home in time, and half way during the hotel quarantine her mother passed away. She was granted a 30 minute visit to leave quarantine to see her mother just before she died.
During the 2 week period of solitary confinement, Momoko also almost died due to an unexpected flare up of her serious illness that had been in remission.
Momoko grappled with her own mortality and the death of her mother alone; and although the experience took a toll, the experience was an opportunity of growth and resilience.
She wrote a memoir, Fourteen Days, about her story.

Regan Espinosa's father had died suddenly, the week before Thanksgiving in 2020. Due to the pandemic restrictions, her family could not attend the funeral. She had left a picture of her family at his grave, yet when she returned, it had blown into a nearby field. Regan saw a problem, and through her grief she created a solution.
Creating "The Visit Box" was a therapeutic and healing outlet through her grief journey. She was also âstuckâ on days when trying to understand what stage of grief she was in. Grief counseling and support groups she finally attended helped, but she continued thriving with her own grief coaching process "(W)hole In My Heart". The hole Regan felt with the loss of her dad, became a part of her, while also feeling âwholeâ.
The Visit Box was one part of my grief journey. Utilizing my expertise as an occupational therapist and fitness professional I applied my knowledge and experience into tools to serve others that are experiencing loss.

After her baby daughters died when they were just a few weeks old, Rachel began a journey to healing after loss she was told was impossible.
Together with her sister Crystal they have taken what they learned, and created an emotional wellness company called 'Teamotions' dedicated to helping people get the guidance, support, tools, and resources they need to heal their hearts after loss too.
Rachel and Crystal are best known for their powerful healing teas. Their line of emotional well-being teas are blended with adaptogens, healing herbs, and superfoods that help to restore the body from under to toll of grief to strengthen grievers for the healing journey ahead.
Their comforting teas have won awards and are the foundation that healing after loss is built on. For over a decade now Rachel has taught grievers how to use their teas, as well as a program she created to help them get through their pain to the healing on the other side.
Rachel is honoured to share their teas with you, as well as the message that healing is possible; grief doesn't have to be forever if you don't want it to be.

My response was "It's been a bit exhausting the last 2 months", to which he responded "Exhausting is only the Story we tell ourselves!"

I am so excited to have this legend of a lady back for an interview. When I asked Jessi to send me an updated bio, I got this beautiful message:
"After taking 1.5 years off from work, I was able to start trying to live the life that I wanted for myself. I started back my career in the music & entertainment business, and made a very hard decision to put my podcast, "Good Grief, Jessi" on pause.
I wanted to focus on starting to practice what I preached. This will be my first time coming back into the grief community since I started my new position and I cannot wait to share with you all what I've learned!"

Carrie grew up in a middle class home as an only child. This created a relationship with her mother as a mother, sister, and friend. In 2009 her Mom ascended.
Carrie was in shock! She suddenly came to realise that the relationship she had believed to be healthy, had left her paralysed in fear. She did not know what to do or where to go. It took several years, and eventually on a Womenâs retreat she discovered that she had identified all her mothers feelings as her own.
Carrie has come to understand that she could use the love her mother taught her to love herself!! This allowed her to experience love with her family even BIGGER than before.

You know when people tell you "Just be grateful for what you have!" - I am a big believer that GRATITUDE is the base of everything...
But... it took me a good two years to be able to practice gratitude, mindfully, after Rob passed.
Gratitude can feel like a slap in the face, when people suggest it in the space of grief. Be mindful when and who you suggest it to.

Melanie Greenhalgh is the real deal. She is an empath and has lived with that as both a curse and a blessing. Mel has lived experience of Love, loss, grief and has learnt how to get back up with every knock down life has thrown at her.

What that moment created was a renewed determination to reclaim her life and deliver on her true purpose in life.

Most recently she has combined her professional and personal experiences to serve and support women as they discover themselves, their strengths and that in every aspect of their life: they are good enough.

In this #MeaningfulMindset we will unpack why this phrase is useless, despite the best intention that comes with it - and how to offer real help instead, so people can actually receive it! Â

I had the most beautiful connection with Nicole - we had never met before, and I instantly knew I just had to introduce her to YOU! When I asked her to send me a little about her, this is what I received:
"I was widowed by brain cancer in December 2019, while living in Japan.
I decided to pack up my 20-year life there and come back to support my parents and sister in Australia - Covid also hastened that decision.
I returned in May 2020 and at my deepest grief, I basically had a nervous breakdown. However, after facing my grief head-on and being very determined to feel all the grief feelings, I am now thriving.
Currently, I am a second-year uni student, studying social work. I want this forced change in my life to mean something by helping others. Studying has been a wonderful journey into self-understanding and realising that I can do a lot, even by myself.
I will not let my losses define me and I want to live a very full and fun life. I love my late husband yet I believe that widowhood is all about me.
I am a big believer in active grieving, a hater of toxic positivity, and a lover of widows helping other widows facing grief, and learn to live life again.
This is why Marie's philosophy resonates with me, too."
How beautiful is Nicole? Can't wait for you to meet her - come and join us!

I have always been fascinated by bridges (ask my boyzz đđ).
Whenever weâre on a road trip I point them out. Â I love driving across and looking at the incredible landscape underneath - very often it being water. Â
One of the most important ones is from the traditional paradigm of how we are used to approaching grief to the growth paradigm.
I know it is possible.

There is so much symbolism from the ocean that applies to grief.
In a group call we had, I once used the analogy of how our Movement Loving Life after Loss is like a cruise ship.
It made me think about how long it takes to turn a ship around - not just in terms of your own healing journey - yet also in regards to how our society "suggests" we deal with grief.

Mike McCarthy has worked as a journalist in newspapers, radio and television for almost 40 years as a producer, reporter and presenter for the BBC and Sky News. His assignments have included the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, terrorist attacks on the Boston marathon, the Canadian parliament in Ottawa and the Manchester Arena in the UK. His range of stories stretches from politics in Washington DC to rioting in Athens, demonstrations in Gaza, floods in the UK and sporting triumphs across Europe.
Mike has interviewed almost all UK prime ministers since the 1970s including Margaret Thatcher and Tony Blair. He also once had the privilege of meeting and interviewing boxing legend Muhammad Ali.
He covered and was deeply affected by the Hillsborough Disaster in which 96 football fans lost their lives in 1989. Mike says: âIt made me much more aware of how interested parties can try to form a distorted narrative and that, unless we are very careful, history can be shaped by dishonesty.â
Today Mike shares about his son Ross who took his life aged just 31 in February 2021.
In his farewell letter, Ross asked his family to campaign for better mental health services and Mike is now honouring his sonâs request. This includes a UK-wide suicide prevention initiative called âthe Baton of Hopeâ

"Nurturing Healing Love" written by Scarlett Lewis is the message her six-year-old son, Jesse, left on their kitchen chalkboard shortly before his murder at Sandy Hook Elementary School.
It was a message of comfort but also a solution and has been amplified in schools, homes and communities through the Choose Love Movement.
Jesse saved 9 of his first-grade classmates before losing his own life, and his courage became a model for his momâs life purpose: to spread love, hope and healing throughout the world.

The Fear is real. I see it every day in topics that we discuss in "Loving Life after Loss" and various other situations. And yes, I also feel it from time to time. Â
I am not asking you to ignore it - or even worse "get over it" - I want you to embrace it, listen to your fears and allow them to be your signposts for your path ahead. Â
I wish for you to learn to lean into trust and surrender. To me, surrender isn't weakness (like some would believe); for me surrender needs trust.
Trust in your guidance. Learn to feel it.

Even as an ex-flight attendant this "oxygen mask first" concept took me quite some time to really grasp! Â
After all, I'm a Mummabear - I would often put my kids before me, in particular when they were younger. Â
Today I understand more than ever how being an example in everything I teach, is so much more important than anything I say. Â
Here's something to ponder upon: "We tend to want to help others heal the pain that we find too hard to face." Let's look at that very closely in this #MeaningfulMindset episode! Â

Yet the  fact is, not all of them do. I had to part ways with some really close friends along the way and have gained others - both in rather unexpected ways!

Sleep deprivation is a very common side effect of grief. I too have spent countless nights with very little sleep over the years.

Jeff Johnston is an author, entrepreneur, and advocate. After losing his son, Seth, in 2016 to fentanyl poisoning, Jeff decided to change the trajectory of his life. He realized that in the face of grief and loss he had two choices: He could go down a road of anger and despair and become bitter, or he could use his situation as motivation to become better.
Jeff chose the latter. He took a step back from his career as a financial advisor and began to focus on ways he could make a difference. He became an advocate for bringing awareness to substance use and addiction in teens & young adults.
In 2021, Jeff lost his wife of 21 years, Prudence, to alcoholism. This furthered Jeff's passion for bringing awareness to these issues. Jeff is about to embark on the "Living Undeterred Tour" to build a network of contacts and resources to help develop alternative solutions to the mental health and addiction crises.
I am stoked to get the chance to bring him to you before he heads off to continue changing the world!

I am blessed with more and more amazing connections - here's another beautiful one, formed on LinkedIn:
Ian Hawkins is the Founder and Host of The Grief Code. Dealing with grief firsthand with the passing of his father back in 2005 planted the seed in Ian to discover what personal freedom and legacy truly is.
This experience was the start of his journey to healing the unresolved and unknown grief that were negatively impacting every area of his life. Leaning into his own intuition led him to leave corporate and follow his purpose of creating connections for himself and others.
The Grief Code is a divinely guided process that enables every living person to uncover their unresolved and unknown grief and dramatically change their life and the lives of those they love. Thousands of people have now moved from loss to light following this exact process.

There's a strength within us that often stays dormant - even we, ourselves, are unaware of the force we carry so blissfully hidden - until it is triggered.

There's no accident that this very topic falls on Valentine's Day...
It's incredible how easy it is for us to look at all the things we don't have, which is where we often fall into comparison.
It's also too tempting to swing all the way to the other side, looking at those who have less than us - which again keeps us in comparison...
Let's talk about the Magic that happens when we look at what we do have!

Today I am introducing Gabrielle Targett from Perth WA, a Transformologist who works with women to empower and assist them to recover from emotional trauma, grief and despair.
Gaby came across this workout of necessity after experiencing two tragic events 33 years apart. After the first tragic event, which she kept a secret for 33(!) years, she found herself on an interesting journey trying to heal her trauma, grief and despair by becoming a birth doula and hypnosis practitioner.
Interestingly, she became a birth trauma specialist, using hypnosis, and ran childbirth workshops to empower women around birth.
In 2016 Gabrielle experienced another tragic event almost identical to the 1st, which again sent her on an epic journey of self-discovery and ultimately finding an amazing modality that healed her completely of all her PTSD and everything that goes with that.
Gaby is ready to share her story in hope that it will assist others in healing certain events, trauma or grief.

I came across Chris and instantly subscribed to his daily newsletters - they are short boosts, action steps - just the way I like it! Chris Dorris started his career as a social worker, working on the streets of Atlantic City, helping the mentally ill, drug addicted and homeless populations upgrade their lives. Over the course of those several years, he observed that some of those folks â as a consequence of their belief and their persistence â were able to overcome some pretty serious challenges. That experience, in retrospect, was the perfect foundation for what would become his vocation. He then decided to marry his passion for the power of the human spirit with his passion for sports.
So he moved to Arizona to attend graduate school at Arizona State University. He created an internship with the Menâs Golf Team which evolved into a paid position as the formal âMental Toughness Coachâ. Over the course of those ten years he really learned a ton about the mechanics of training the mind. Since then, he discovered that the Mental Toughness tools that he was using with many of the worldâs greatest athletes were perfectly applicable to many other disciplines beyond sport. Since then, he has trained minds of world famous actors, NFL and NHL Coaches, business executives, Super Bowl Champions and billionaires.
Chris is in the business of Success Coaching and today we will talk about how all of this applies to #UpspiralGrief

I only ever knew the word "surrender" in the context of giving up, mostly used in a negative way. Â Last week offered me another opportunity to surrender - and it felt amazing. Surrender can mean so much more than giving up; like freedom or flow... Â
Let me share a few perspectives in this #MeaningfulMindset to kickstart your week with some positive thoughts! Â

Focus is an interesting concept. Laser-sharp focus can be incredibly powerful, important and create success - yet it can also be debilitating, destroy us and make our vision for anything else around us quite blurry.Â
I am intrigued by what happens when we apply such simple principles when it comes to adversity and grief.Â

Triggers decrease our life quality! Grief has a lot of triggers. There can be common ones, that haunt you and stay with you for a while. And then there are the unexpected ones that surprise us, scare us or move us to tears...Â
Embracing our triggers is a huge element in our healing journey. How can we do that though?Â
Let's unpack it together in another #MeaningfulMindset †Â

CHILD-LOSS is a hugely important and very deep topic to address! Join me in our conversation where we share first hand about the "HOW" we can handle an adversity of such a caliber... Â
Chris is meanwhile a regular in our Movement and has also recently joined our Mod Squad, which is such a pleasure for us & caused for a lot of excitement in the previously female only team. We are truly stoked to have you!! Â
On a more serious note, we previously had a few posts that highlight this very particular topic for bereaved parents. We will shed light on an often used statement "You will never get over losing a child!" - I understand this will be a very tender, yet I believe important & open interview to get to the bottom of this statement. Â
Chris is a bereaved parent himself and I am truly grateful he has volunteered to come back for yet another #UpspiralGrief interview.

Juan Pablo is a Mexican-born writer who lives in Bali. He's hugely passionate about nature, travel, wildlife, spirituality and philosophy, as well as living life as authentically as possible.Â
He also loves tacos, and says that the best tacos in the world (after Mexico, of course) are found in Burleigh Heads, Australia.Â
Being from Mexico, his views on death have been influenced by his culture (which has a yearly 'Day of the Dead'), as well as other lifelong influences, shaping his personal view on death.Â
In rural Mexico for instance, a death is not just cause for grief of the loss. Instead, it is often a colourful, communal call to celebrate the joys of life (and light). I can't wait to introduce you to this beautiful old soul, as I love bringing different cultures into our group to expand our views & options! Â

Last week I had somebody offer me a program that I knew I wasn't aligned with. As it came from somebody I really care about, I went into the depth of discussing why I "closed the doors" instantly. That's when it occurred to me, how many parallels there are between "Sales" and "Grief".

The rather uncomfortable truth that (most?) strong women live with... What's behind that strong shell? What happens when you break that shell or even just open it quite carefully... just a little? What do you find inside?
When STRENGTH becomes your identity - and you allow yourself to let go, even just for one moment, a couple of hours, a day - WHO ARE YOU then? Don't let a label rule your world. It takes courage that's so worth it... Â Raw, vulnerable & real... tune in for another - very authentic - #MeaningfulMindset

Susan Loch is a mother-of-three children who lived a carefree life until 21 March 2011. When she woke to find a policeman standing beside her husband; She immediately guessed the sickening truth. Jessica, her nineteen-year-old daughter, had been killed, the latest victim of a treacherous stretch of the Princes Highway on the New South Wales south coast. Life, as Susan knew it, had changed forever.
"Jessicaâs Gift" is her candid and heartfelt story, charting how Susan grappled with each subsequent day. Initially, her grief felt intolerable and unending, but while she despaired, she didnât give up. Gradually, hope, peace and even joy crept back into her life. Susan's intention with writing "Jessicaâs Gift" is to help other bereaved parents not feel so alone - and also give an insight to anyone else who seeks to understand the trauma of child bereavement.
At first Susan felt guilty when she learned to smile again, when she started to enjoy life again. These days she doesnât feel guilty when she says "I love life", because she knows her Jess would want and expect this from her. Some days she feels her life is so blessed, she wakes up most days and smiles. Losing a child is obviously totally different to losing a husband or wife, but grief should not be compared. Susan wishes things were different and that Jess was still here, but she is not, and we cannot change that, so she has learnt to live the best life she can with the cards she has been dealt.
Susan launched her book on 22 Nov 2020; it sold out in one week - and so has the next shipment. Meanwhile the third order of books has arrived and are making their ways into bookshops in the Northern Beaches, Eastern Suburbs, the Shire and also around the Campbelltown area. I am looking forward to introducing you to Susan, what a remarkable woman!

Tania gives those of us struggling with stress, loss and uncertainty, the access to clarity, peace of mind and joy. She gives us power to have fulfilment, irregardless of what life serves us. She sources herself in ontology and neuroscience. Tania brings humour, compassion and her Love for people to a subject dear and near to her heart. She frees people who are suffering deeply in their relationship with their body. She has found that almost everyone that she speaks with, not matter what size they are, have a constrained relationship with their body which is impacting all other areas.Â
In the spirit of SelfLove I felt it all too suitable to invite Tania to speak to us about healing the source of the constraint, by transforming our relationship with our bodies. We will hear a lot about "Body EQ", and shifting our relationship to our body from shame, needing to control and fix, to: healing, freeing ourself from the grip of the unconscious ego and inner bully. Tania shows us the path to loving , celebrating, healing, listening, enjoying, celebrating and loving our body. She is getting a welcome shoutout from people who are no longer gripped by an unhealthy relationship with their bodies - and I am so looking forward to hearing about how to fall in Love with our bodies.

Meet the Co-Founder of "Feel the Magic", an amazing organisation which I personally contacted for my own two boys... As a young entrepreneur, James ran his own business and was an active property investor committed to living a successful life. In the wake of losing his mother, James realised the life he had created was unfulfilling and unrewarding. Trading his time for money doing the things he didnât enjoy did not sit right with him. In 2012, he decided to sell his business and set out on a path of self-discovery. James was desperate to make purpose of his life and wanted to honour the memory of his much loved parents.
James has since dedicated his life to giving grieving children a voice and providing a safe place to grow and thrive during their grief. Jamesâ greatest achievement in life has been the birth of his children. Together with his beautiful wife Kristy, they love spending time as a family. James also likes to test his physical and mental strength by participating in challenging adventures around the world. James strives to share his passion whilst sharing his story and inspire others to chase their dreams, being an example of living a life filled with purpose despite the many challenges of life.
