The Bible includes a lot of good advice for living. People quote their favorite Bible verses to encourage each other, but sometimes those verses are taken out of context. What happens when that message gets messed up and twisted? Over the next three weeks, we will cover three of the most misconstrued verses in the Bible as we get to know the background of the verses, what they really mean, and how to find the depth of God’s message through them. Verse in this series include, “For I know the plans I have for you…” (Jeremiah 29:11); “Ask anything in my name…” (John 14:14); and “Do not judge, or you too will be judged…”(Matt 7:1-2).

It’s easy to only skim the surface of the Bible in this fast-paced world where screens are full of knowledge and things to do abound. Reading the Bible, on the other hand, is like looking at a menu without really enjoying the meal. Literally changing our lives happens when we read, understand, and apply God’s Word. Literally reading the Bible is one thing, but really getting it is something else & it’s truly life-changing when you can do both. God speaks to us through His Word and studying the Bible. Well, it’s right up the road: this weekend is WrestleMania 40 in Philadelphia. As a sort of fun “tie-in,” join HCC for this one-week message—Believe-A-Mania: Tag Team Champs—Salt & Light There may not be a direct link between this sermon and our own wants or preferences, and you may not feel a connection right away, but I am sure that if Jesus were here, He would choose this exact topic. After Jesus rose from the dead, I thought about how eager those who followed him were to share their faith—it became a lifestyle. The heart of the Christian faith beats with the desire for evangelism [an urgent call to reach those far from God]. Jesus says in Luke 19 that He came into the world “to seek and save the lost.” So, ring the bell, walk the aisle, lean in, listen up, and grapple with God’s plan for our lives to become one with our hearts in this special Believe-A-Mania.

Picture it: the dusty streets of Jerusalem, the scent of fig leaves, & the buzz of anticipation as Jesus, rides a borrowed donkey hailed as both king & rebel. The Last Supper unfolds—feet washed, bread broken, wine shared. Sorrow drips from His brow in Gethsemane as He grapples to drink from the cup of suffering he must endure. A friend’s betrayal casts its shadow, the Sanhedrin convenes, the scourging embarks, & the cross looms large, its splintered wood against a bruised sky.
In A Couple of Days, One Week, we explore Jesus’ Passion Week & how it altered the course of humanity forever. This week contains raw emotions, heavenly purpose, & cosmic significance. It’s not just a history lesson, but an invitation as are not spectators, we are participants. Journeying through a couple of these days, we wrestle with doubt, embrace grace, face our own betrayals, & experience the weight of nails & Jesus’ words, “It is finished.” Yet, Sunday morning brings the victory of an empty tomb, a seismic shift that reverberates across time.
This Easter season, join us as this ancient story still pulses with life & freedom, all from A Couple of Days, One Week.
Our Good Friday service is a reflective service that commemorates the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ. As Christians, we must remember the sacrifice that Jesus made for us and reflect on its significance for our own lives, with the hope of his resurrection bringing renewed faith.

As we welcome the New Year of 2024, we may be tempted to make some resolutions to improve ourselves & our lives. But how many of us can honestly say that we have kept our resolutions in the past? How many of us gave up before they started? How many of us may still be haunted by the events of 2023, whether they were joyful or painful? The truth is the past is gone and we cannot change it. We can only learn from it and move forward. Instead of brief resolutions, let’s make lasting spiritual New Year’s Transformations. Let us transform our hearts, thoughts, & souls as Christ’s love changes our relationships, communities, & larger world. Through New Year’s Transformations let’s truly transform our lives by the hope of the Spirit.

How do you see your life? This question has been pondered since childhood. This may seem like a career or family. But what about meaningful living? Many wish to live a meaningful life, but how? How do you know what God is calling you to do with your life? Where to begin? How to keep focused? So how can you get back on track if you’ve lost your way? In this week’s message, You’ve Been Called, we are going to be embracing the concept of the word, “calling.” Calling is an important word that impacts us deeply at our core. We must be reminded that calling is more about “who” rather than “what.” To discover God’s calling on our lives, we must focus less on what we’re doing and more on what we’re becoming–fully devoted followers of Christ.

Feasts and celebrating an important event are Biblical, and as the church it is good that we enjoy a covered dish or a meal after a church event. Just as we gathered a few weeks ago after a baptismal service to celebrate with new and present members. God’s people have been celebrating for years with feasts.
In Genesis 18 Abraham had a meal for the three Men that promised him a son. Then there is the feast of Passover and the Feast of Booths to remember the journey of Israel through the wilderness. There is the story of Martha and Mary and Jesus going to the Zaccheus’ house and another time to the home of Matthew. And Jesus’ last Passover meal with His disciples.
Today we will highlight three different feasts and the responses to them.

In this week’s message, we look at a topic that resonates with each & every one of us: Labels. Labels are the words & judgments that others have placed upon us throughout our lives, often making us feel insignificant, useless, or even worse. Negative labels that continue to define you & influence the way you see yourself can keep our future caged up in our past? There is hope as we find hope & inspiration in “that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun.” So, instead of being dragged down & paralyzed by the weight of the labels of our past, let us embrace the what freedom can find in Christ, who He says we are & how in Jesus we can overcome the labels that have held us back.

Occasionally throughout the years, we have sent a questionnaire around (often at Easter) with several topics you would most like to hear a message on. Often these are very consistent with topics many would love to have clarity on and we gear a series off of those answers. This 5-week series covers a variety of those very topics from our last questionnaire and other main topics that you and others wanted to hear most. So, we took five of the top topics you wanted to know about and put them in this 5-week series called, “You Really Wanted to Know.” Don’t miss out or you will still be wondering.

One of the greatest lines ever in movie history comes from Arnold Schwarzenegger in The Terminator, “I’ll be back!” When it comes to the Second Coming of Jesus, so many of us focus on the wrath of the Lord like He is coming back bringing wrath and destruction. We can get so focused on 666, and marks of beasts, and tribulations, and famines, and blood, terror, weeping and gnashing of teeth that scripture speaks of; yet, we miss out on the biggest part of it all: the overwhelming love of God. In this 4-week series, “I’ll be back!” we are going to focus on the love of God for His people and how He tells us to “not let your hearts be troubled.” As a Christian/Christ-follower we can do just that, because you’re on the winning side. Join us in this series as we can get excited that Jesus promises, “I’ll be back!”

God wants us to sit close to Him. Hes saved us seats & he’s waiting on us & we have to be careful we are not sitting in the wrong seat. So what are you waiting for?
This week, our Guest Speaker, Laura Young, invites us to reflect on the excuses we make when God calls on us and how we can strengthen our faith and remember that He has called us for a reason.
Join us as we explore the transformative potential of changing our outlook on life as we uncover the keys to embracing positivity amidst adversity, by rewriting our headlines. Through faith, hope, and a shift in perception, we can find strength in the midst of chaos and sow seeds of positivity in a world desperately in need of it.
In this series, based on the book and concepts from Kerry and Chris Shook, One Month to Live: Thirty Days to a No-Regrets Life, we will approach living the fullness of life Jesus promised as we start living as if we have only had 30 days left. If we embrace this fully, it radically changes the way they think and act and will make a major difference in our own lives.

In this brief 2-week message series called “My Church…” we will look at 2 areas of what Jesus expects of His church.
Church. Why do we have church? So many different styles, so many choices, so many preferences, so many differences. We talk about contemporary, traditional, evangelical, and tons of other descriptions. We often will look for something or someplace we can call, “my church.” Yet, in Matthew 16, Jesus told his disciples, “I will build my church.” I like that he didn’t say, “I will build the church.” When it comes to His church, Jesus takes it very personally. Christianity is not about Christians, it’s about the gathering of Christians. Christianity is a group of people, it is the church…the Body of Christ. Jesus says, “And I will build my church, and the gates of hell will not prevail against that church.” He loves his church. He takes it very, very personally. In this brief 2-week message series called “My Church…” we will look at 2 areas of what Jesus expects of His church.
For many believers, we have been taught to believe in the Bible and its teachings without questioning; however, there are times in life when doubts creep in and we find ourselves struggling with questions that we may have been too afraid to ask. In this series, I Doubt It, we will intentionally make room for those questions and doubts, exploring the idea of doubt in our faith; and why it is not only okay to question, but also important for our spiritual growth. We will look at biblical stories where doubt played a significant role, such as Thomas’ doubt in the resurrection of Jesus. We will examine the reasons why we doubt, and learn how to approach our doubts with grace and understanding all while exploring ways to move forward in faith, even when we still have questions, using our doubts as a catalyst for a deeper relationship with God.

There exists a virtue that seems to be in short supply in our fast-paced world – patience. We live in an age where we want things done quickly and efficiently. We get impatient waiting in line, stuck in traffic, or for our prayers to be answered. However, patience is a crucial characteristic that is essential to our Christian walk. This week, our amazing Haven Youth will help remind us that God is just, and He will answer our prayers in His perfect time, which may not always align with our timeline.

We can all relate to wandering and feeling lost in life, whether it’s due to our own choices or circumstances beyond our control. In the Lost & Pursued sermon series, we will take a four-week journey through the parables of the lost sheep, lost coin, & lost son in Luke 15. We will explore a different parable that Jesus tells & how it teaches us about the relentless pursuit of God’s love & grace. Through these weeks, we will see the heart of God & be reminded that He never gives up on us & is always seeking to bring us back to Him. This series, culminating on Easter Sunday, will be a powerful reminder that no matter how lost we may be or feel, we are never beyond the reach of God’s love & mercy.

Another year down, another one facing you. You may not like the person you are and you may be concerned about the person you may become. But what if becoming the person you want to be starts well before the moment you make a decision? In 2017, the Lord nudged Haven Church through a church-wide study based on the book, Radical, by David Platt. In the study, it forced many of us to ask ourselves if we really lived out our faith in a safe way or live out Jesus radical call to faith. From there a group from the church took a mission trip to Haiti in August 2017 that forever impacted the ministry of Haven Church and those in Haiti we are now part of the Haven Community Church family. From that point, God connected two communities in very different places and situations, and changed hearts, minds, communities of Haven Community Church and Haven Community Church Haiti. Join this week as we share God’s hand in the beginning up until now and how Haiti faces some of the most difficult, tumultuous times, right now.

Names are so important. We spend so much time time picking the “perfect” name for children, pets, cars, etc. What’s in a name? Just about everything. When we learn someone’s name or even have nicknames it conveys that we learn who they really are, not just who we imagine them to be. The Christian life is not just about knowing about God but knowing Him – who He really is.
In our series, Hello, My Name is God, we are going to take 7 weeks looking at just a few of the names of God, in order to know Him as He truly is through knowing His names.

What do I need to Know? And how do I learn? Where do I need to Grow? Then What is the best course of action for me to take so I can grow in the right areas? Who, how and where do I serve? And then what do I share and who do I share with? These are a few of the questions I ask myself and I imagine you can come up with a few more of your own.

This week we’re going to look at the life of Joseph as an example to find Hope Rising When Youre Not Happy With the Hand Youre Dealt.
We love to go fast. From the earliest days, “Daddy, go faster!” To the early 20s of “putting the pedal to the metal” zooming down the road. Often our lives do exactly the same as we go fast faster, and fastest. In week #3, we will look at how in order to have hope rising we need to discover why we go so fast heading for a crash in life.

Scripture(s): 1 Peter 1:6-7 (NLT) There are those times when believing in God seems so difficult because we pray and wonder why our prayers are not answered. We see and experience suffering and tragedy; yet, wonder where God is and why does he tolerate suffering. How do we make sense of all this? So often we want to trust and believe in God but when the aforementioned things happen we often doubt God cares or even if he is there
What do we do when so many around us talk about hear, seeing or feeling God and we just don’t. In week #3 we will look at how God Didn’t make me feel Him, so I can’t believe in Him or at least I have problems doing so. Let’s talk about and see what we do when God doesn’t make us Tingly All Over.
In week #2, we are going to look at our focus when God is not very fun. Many want to believe in God, but I dont want to be a boring, stick-in-the-mud. To be a follower of Christ, there seems to be so many dos and donts and rules and regulations. If we are really honest, many Christians are just not very likable. They seemed to be hypocritical, judgmental and holier-than-thou, often saying one thing and then something the complete opposite. In this second week of the God Didn’t, I Can’t series, look at how some often have a desire to believe in God but I can’t because God is such a Party Pooper.
In week #1, we look at if God loves us and cares so much, why doesn’t He do what we want Him to do. Obviously, if he really cares He should do what’s best and we know what’s best for us. Jesus told us to pray calling God “Abba” or Daddy. If God is our Daddy in heaven then Daddy needs to take care of us. We need this now and what we really need is a Sugar Abba.

This week we look at the life of Jacob. Jacob was one who continually received the blessings of God in so many areas; yet, his life also was riddled with deception, deceit, broken relationships and pain. With Jacob “coming out of the stands” to take a lap around the track of life with us, we will look at what do you do when life does not turn out the way you planned and what we can learn from a wrestling match with ourselves and with God that can help us go the extra mile in life.
This week, we look at Rebekah, a strong “dog” of faith and we ask ourselves, what do you do when someone needs or asks for help? Are you generous or are you focussed on something else.
In this series well look several of the BIG DOGS” in the Bible, and how they lived in amazing ways, did incredible things for God. What if, in our life’s race, we could do on lap around the track with one of these BIG DOGS of faith and what would they say to us that could keep us going.

So much of our daily lives seem so mundane, boring and just existing like a log in the rapids — waiting to get caught in the rocks, rapids or next waterfall — being driven along by the moving tides. If you had one month to live, would you want to just coast down the rapids or would you want to see & experience every moment to the fullest. Why wait until we are facing death, we should be ready to learn this week how we are to Live Passionately.

In our journey in life, how do we live with them, love them, be there for them and survive the influence they have on our lives yet, encourage and strengthen them to not be that way, but become who they can be in Christ. What about us? What if we are or are becoming those hypocritical people how can we truly become who Christ calls us us to be in Him.

In week #2 of the series, we will look at those individuals in our lives that are those who cannot remember birthdays and anniversaries, but they can remember when you said that thing to them, forgot their birthday or anniversary or just said something they did not agree with. Who are they? They are Those Unforgiving Ones. How do we live with them, love them, be there for them; yet, encourage and strengthen them to not be that way, but become who they can be in Christ. Equally important, how can we not become those people or stop being those people” and truly become who Christ calls us to be in Him.
Look! Do you see that? Right there! It’ looks like… It is always interesting how two people looking at the same thing will see things very differently. Situation, triumphs, tragedies, all seen in different ways. Ultimately in life, was we see really hinges on our past: what we saw. It’s about perspective. What if what we are currently seeing can is based in our experience. What if we can see things differently, through the eyes of the Apostle Paul as week look at this in week #3 of the Perspective series: See Saw.
I have always enjoyed and found fascinating when we look at something from one viewpoint and then all of a sudden a “light bulb” goes off and we see it at a completely different way. How does that happen? It happens when we have a mind shift. In week 1 of our series, we will look at how there are times in life when you are in a place where you dont understand, you don’t see clearly and you just dont like it. During these times, even though you cant necessarily see evidence of it — God is there and is very active in the midst of it all. What do we need to do? We need to learn to look through the circumstances and you can com to realize that God may have a purpose in the middle of all when we learn the power of Perspective.
In week four of this series, we will look at how so many people believe in God, and we say we trust Him; however, when it comes down to it, there are many times our actions display just the opposite. Sometimes the most difficult thing we can do it “Let Go & Let God” for in this we have to be willing and able to trust that God is greater than our own abilities. We believe in God yet struggle with trusting Him fully. Come this week and get to as we learn how to move away from being the UNChristian by dealing with the areas, I Believe, But I Don’t Fully Trust Him.
In week three of this series, we will look at how so many people believe in God, but do not want to “go overboard with it”. Following Christ fully may cause others to call us the “wacky Bible thumper,” or the “crazy church lady.” We believe in God yet we have this kind of Sunday I am a Christian rest of the week you don’t have clue what I am attitude. In some sense we are “lukewarm”. Come this week and get to as we learn how to move away from being the UNChristian by dealing with the areas, I Believe, But Lets Not Get Crazy.
In this final week of this series, we look at the biblical narrative of a David and Goliath. One of the greatest things in life is that God uniquely calls and creates us to be just that: unique. The question resides, do you Have the Stones to seek after and accomplish what God has called you to be and do.

In week #4 we will look at the cultural belief that it does not matter what I believe as long as I am sincere. God says, I Did Not Say That when we look at Believe What You Want. This week we want to look at how what we believe is so important and we are going to consider Jesus — NOT the Christian religion, NOT church, but Jesus.
In this 4-week series we will address common misattributes about God, like “God will not give you more than you can handle,” or “God wants you to be happy.” In doing so, we will look at how these quick areas may make us feel better temporarily; however, they often prevent us from delving into deeper relationship with Him. So, joins us as we look at where God says, I Did Not Say That: when we say in Week #2: God Wants You to be Happy.
