This Sunday we continue our series in the book of Acts, talking about the church, leaving the building, and being the tangible hands and feet of Jesus. We’ll be in Acts 7, looking at the very first martyr in church history. The message is titled “Free to Forgive.”

We’ll examine Stephen’s interaction with those who were hateful toward him—how he responded and where he found his confidence. Stephen had a deep trust in God’s Word and a close relationship with the God of the Word, which gave him boldness to stand up for God. There is much to apply here for us.

There’s so much in this passage, but we’re going to focus on how he responds, praying for the forgiveness of those who were hurting him. What a countercultural and wild idea! The early church faced both physical suffering and relational hurt, yet Stephen’s response shows the power of forgiveness, even toward those God would use in the future.

Many of us miss out on the true freedom God offers because we withhold forgiveness. Forgiveness is a trademark of Jesus, and it is meant to be a trademark of His followers. The church never responds with violence, but always with forgiveness, and we see that powerfully in Stephen’s example.

We’ll spend time this Sunday talking about what forgiveness truly is, what freedom truly looks like, and what it requires from us as a church. It’s easy to talk about reaching the world for Jesus—until they hurt you. What if the hurt comes from those who claim Jesus? This will be a heavy Sunday, and I’m already praying for you, church, as we explore this together.

This week, we will continue our series through the book of Acts, focusing on chapter 6. This chapter opens with the early church experiencing a problem—a conflict. We will look at the problem the apostles faced, the solution proposed, and the results of how the conflict was resolved. We will see that the reason this conflict ended well was the unity that existed among the apostles and the many believers.

Unity is such a powerful tool to overcome the schemes of our enemy!

This is also a special Sunday in the life of FIVE39. We will be talking about deacons and their role in ministry. Eight gentlemen from our body will be put before our church members for affirmation to serve in this role.

This week, we will be in chapter 4, talking about being average and available for Jesus. Peter and John are put on trial, and they speak up for Jesus and the gospel message. They don’t crumble in fear. This will be a strong call for us, both as individuals and as a church, not to feel threatened by cancel culture, but to speak boldly for Jesus, regardless of the cost.

We see two men who are accused of being “untrained and common.” They were considered average, boring, and even “idiots” for their beliefs and for standing up for Jesus. But the one thing the religious leaders noticed was that they had been with Jesus. That’s something we pray is said about our church: that we’re not perfect, not polished, not even highly educated—but that we walk closely with Jesus and are bold for Him!

Many of us regularly struggle with insecurity about how people view us when we are sharing the gospel. This passage reminds us where the real power is and the kind of people God uses! We just want to be average and available with our lives!

What if being busy wasn't a badge of honor but a sign of spiritual immaturity?

This Sunday, we continue our series in the book of Acts by looking at a powerful story in chapter 3. Peter and John are on their way to a prayer meeting when they encounter a man with a physical need, but they end up meeting a spiritual need as well. With boldness, they call upon the name of Jesus to heal him! This man had been placed at the gate by others day after day, and finally someone made eye contact with him and offered help.

The title of the message is “Open Our Eyes.” Too often we can feel too busy for people and forget that the true call to ministry is people.

Wonder how many people we walk by each day who are silently asking for help. Wonder how busy we’ve become that we no longer have time for those with real, legitimate needs. What would it look like if we were a church that had the time and margin to prioritize people over programs?

Peter and John encountered this man, and God healed him in a miraculous way. We’ll also talk about healing, because God still heals today. But what happens when He doesn’t? How do we walk through that as followers of Jesus?

This Sunday we kick off a new series in Acts called The Church Has Left the Building. Later this fall, we’ll be moving buildings as a church, and along the way we’re going to keep talking about what that means and what we’ll be focusing on looking at the book of Acts to help shape our thinking about buildings and the church as a whole.

Here’s the thing: FIVE39 is not a building, it’s the people. What God is doing in and through us has very little to do with where we gather. What we do when we gather and when we go matters far more than what building we gather in. AMEN?!

This week we’ll be in Acts 2:42–47, looking at what made the early church distinct. Some things we shouldn’t replicate—and we’ll talk about that—but there are also things we must replicate. What we see in these chapters is revival. People were coming to Jesus daily, and the church in Jerusalem was devoted to the things that mattered most.

This message is titled “Recipe for Revival.” Because here’s the truth: we don’t seek revival from God—we seek God for revival.

So here’s a question: What if we were a church that was devoted to Jesus just like we read in Acts? If we want what we read, we must do what they did.

It’s been an amazing summer so far. We’ve walked through the parables, wrestled with some TOUGH questions, and now we’re preparing for an exciting fall as we move into our new church building.

Story Sunday is a chance to pause, reset, and refocus together as a body. We get to hear what God has done in the lives of others, reminding us we’re not alone and reigniting our passion to keep inviting people to church and pointing them to Jesus.

This week we’ll be looking at one powerful verse: Acts 1:8. Every believer has the

Spirit of God living inside them. Think about it—the same disciples who once ran in fear and denied Jesus were transformed by the Spirit’s power to boldly share the gospel in ways they never could have on their own.

Our church is filled with people who have faced (and are facing) real challenges. But God never wastes our pain. He uses it to position us for His purpose and draw us closer to Himself. This Sunday you’ll hear from three people, each with very different stories and struggles, but all of them met by the grace of Jesus. We can’t wait for you to be encouraged by their testimonies!

This Sunday, we’re tackling some of the real questions people are asking—questions that shape how we follow Jesus today. From wrestling with singleness to deciding whether to attend a same-sex wedding, to walking through church hurt, we’re not shying away from the conversations that matter most. These aren’t just “theological debates.” They’re everyday struggles where faith meets real life.

We’ll open God’s Word to see what it says—not only about what’s right and true, but about how to live with both conviction and compassion. Whether it’s understanding the gift of singleness, holding to God’s design for marriage, or loving friends without affirming what God calls sin, we want to respond like Jesus did—with grace, truth, and an open door for gospel conversations. You’ll also hear how to find healing from church hurt and why keeping Jesus, not people, on the pedestal is the key to restoration.

Come ready to be challenged, and reminded that the gospel brings both clarity and hope. No matter your background, your questions, or your story, you’ll find a place here to wrestle with truth and experience grace.

It’s a tougher Sunday, but we’re a church that leans into the hard topics.

This Sunday, we’re continuing our series by leaning into some honest, often heavy, questions from the heart:

  • Can I lose my salvation?
  • How do you navigate a marriage where your spouse is not a believer?
  • What are the main differences between Catholicism and Christianity?
  • How do you share the gospel with someone who believes works save them?

We walk through these four questions, spending 5–10 minutes on each. We are a people who want to live under the Book. That means we don’t run from tough questions; we embrace them.

Jesus often dropped a hard teaching when the crowds gathered. We want to do more than just drop truth—we want to answer the real questions people are asking.

Some answers won’t be as simple as “yes or no” or “do this/don’t do that.” Instead, I’ll offer biblical frameworks for thinking:

  • Is it wise?
  • Does it reflect God’s character?
  • What does the whole of Scripture say?

Other times, the answer will be more black and white.

This isn’t a time to back away from hard questions. It’s a time to lean into God’s Word and let Him speak.

This Sunday we’re launching a brand-new series called “Ask Me Anything.” Over the next few weeks, we’ll be answering real questions submitted by people in our church—questions about faith, life, and what it means to follow Jesus.

We’re kicking things off with a big one: Why is there such a discipleship dilemma in the church—and what’s our response to it? Research from the Barna Group shows that nearly 40% of believers aren’t in any discipleship relationship, and only 1% of leaders say the Church is doing “very well” at discipling new believers.

One of the biggest reasons we get stuck in our faith is because we stop doing the very thing Jesus told us to do—make disciples. In the Great Commission, Jesus didn’t only call us to share the good news—He told us to teach people how to follow His way of life.

This Sunday, we’ll explore what it means to be an apprentice of Jesus: Being with Him, becoming like Him, and doing what He did. We’ll see why this journey of discipleship must be walked out in community.

Wrapping up this series we’re diving into one of the most overlooked parables—the Parable of the Great Banquet in Luke 14. In my opinion, it should be at the top of the list.

Jesus tells a story where the invitation goes out to everyone—the outcasts, the overlooked, the unexpected—because His desire is that His house would be full. That invitation still stands today. And guess who it comes through? Us.

Let’s be honest: most of us aren’t great at inviting people to Jesus. We have our reasons. So do the people in this parable. But Jesus doesn’t let any of those excuses stand. This week, we’re going to confront both:

The excuses people give for not coming to Jesus. The excuses we give for not inviting them.

Here’s the challenge: What if church wasn’t just for me—but for who I bring?

That’s the question we’re asking. And here's the reality I can't shake:
I don’t belong at the great banquet. But Jesus says I do. And so do the people we’re not inviting yet.

This week, we will dive into a parable that will help us address the current state of our personal prayer life (Luke 11:1–13). How do I pray? Do you believe that God hears your prayers and that He can answer them? Am I a persistent pray-er? What are some reasons people stop praying? What does it mean to ask, seek, and knock?

A persistent prayer life deepens your relationship with God, fostering trust and spiritual growth over time. It provides strength and clarity during trials, reminding you that you’re never alone in your struggles. Consistent prayer also cultivates gratitude and humility, aligning your heart with God's will and purpose.

Our message is titled “Prayer & Presence.” God is not bothered by our requests—in fact, He welcomes them. Jesus is the one in this parable who encourages us to keep on asking, keep on seeking, and keep on knocking. God was even gracious enough to provide us with the Holy Spirit for power and guidance!

This week, we’ll see Jesus tell a parable to address pride and teach humility (Luke 18:9-14). How do I know if I’m humble? How do we know if we’re a humble church? How do we find humility—and keep it?

Humility can be tricky. Pride doesn’t play fair. It’s easy to spot in others, but hard to see in the mirror. If you were asked to name someone who struggles with pride, most of us wouldn’t name ourselves. But humility was the path Jesus took to the cross—and it’s the only way to follow Him.

Our message is titled “The Way Up is Down” In a world full of self-promotion, how do we follow Jesus and live in—not of—the world?

This Sunday we dive into the Parable of the Talents—a story that is both inspiring and deeply challenging.

God has entrusted each of us with unique gifts, talents, and opportunities—not for our own glory, but to reflect His goodness and take part in His Kingdom work. Some respond with faith and action. Others hold back. This parable invites us to examine how we’re stewarding what we’ve been given.

We were born to live with purpose, investing in what matters most.

May we be a people who live in such a way that we, too, will one day hear the words we all long for: “Well done, good and faithful servant. Enter into the joy of your Master.”

This Sunday, we’re diving into the parable of the Unforgiving Servant. Jesus is in the middle of teaching about how to respond when a brother or sister sins against you, when Peter asks a familiar question: “How many times must I forgive my brother or sister?” Jesus uses this moment to tell a story that reveals God’s radical heart to forgive continually—and to teach that, as His followers, we’re called to do the same, without keeping count.

Brokenness and relational hurt are things we all experience, and Jesus understands that. But He doesn’t want the wounds we carry to steal our hearts or quench our love. His desire is to set us free from the prison of unforgiveness. He shows us the path to that freedom by teaching us to forgive from the heart—by remembering how deeply we’ve been forgiven by God.

Through this story, Jesus not only reveals the beauty of God’s mercy, but He also invites us to become people of mercy in a world full of hurt.

This Sunday, we are diving into the parable of the wise and foolish builders. We’ll be looking at Luke’s account of this story. Jesus is surrounded by a great multitude of people who have sought Him out to be healed of physical ailments and freed from unclean spirits. He seizes this moment to teach some powerful life truths.

As He wraps up this time of teaching, Jesus paints a picture of what it means to be not just a hearer of God’s Word, but a doer. He drives His message home by illustrating the difference between two men and their approaches to building a house. One builds a house with a firm foundation, the other builds a house with virtually no foundation.

Foundations matter! We’re going to do a personal foundation check as we take a close look at Luke 6:46–49 and unpack what it takes to build a life that stands the test of time.

This weekend We be celebrate Father’s Day and look at one of the most well-known parables Jesus ever told—the Prodigal Son.

This story captures the heart of God’s love and forgiveness, while also challenging those of us who may be stuck in religion rather than relationship. Though most parables have one main point, this one carries a dual invitation: For the prodigal, it’s a call to come home. For the religious, it’s a challenge to soften your heart and celebrate grace.

This sermon is titled “A Father’s Love”—because on Father’s Day, that’s what we all need to be reminded of. We’ll also speak directly to those who are praying for a prodigal child, and an invitation to anyone who’s ready to return home to the Father.

This Sunday, we’re diving into the parable of the rich fool—a story Jesus tells right after being asked a question about money. He responds not with advice, but with a warning—and a story. One that reveals just how tightly our hearts can be wrapped around stuff. It’s a story about coveting, and it echoes the 10th commandment in a profound way.

We’ll walk through Luke 12:13–21, unpack the signs of a coveting heart, the stuff that’s stealing our soul, and—more importantly—what is the cure for coveting?

This Sunday in our Summer Stories series, we’ll hear a powerful word from one of Jesus’ most familiar parables—the Good Samaritan. But as we’ll see, this isn’t just a story about helping others. It’s a mirror held up to our hearts.

Jesus not only exposes what keeps us from showing compassion—He invites us to live differently. In a world that often walks by, He calls us to stop, to see, and to step in.

Our hearts were made not to be far from God’s Word, but to receive His Word so we might enjoy a fruitful life.

This Sunday, we’re launching a new series that I believe could be truly life-changing. It’s called Summer Stories: Parables of Jesus. Each week, we’ll dive into the powerful stories Jesus told—parables that speak directly to the condition of our hearts and how open we are to fully following Him.

This week, we’ll be looking at Luke 8 and asking an honest question: What hinders the soil of the human heart from receiving His Word and producing spiritual fruit?

This Sunday, we’ll be wrapping up our series and potentially celebrating our last baptism at Goodyear Blvd! It’s a special moment—invite a friend and come worship as we celebrate all that God is doing.

We’ll be diving into Mark 5, where a demon-possessed man comes to Jesus with his cuts and is completely healed. Jesus then sends him to share his story—a powerful reminder of redemption and purpose. This is the same passage we draw our Family Card from, and it’s deeply encouraging.

This passage raises many important questions. We'll explore what it says about spiritual warfare and how to walk alongside those battling mental struggles. Not every issue is demonic, but some are. And in all things, we stand firm knowing our battle isn’t against flesh and blood—and our confidence comes from Jesus and His Word.

This Sunday, we’re continuing our series with a powerful and timely message for Mother’s Day! We’ll be in Luke 10:38–42, looking at the story of two women—Mary and Martha. One chose to sit and listen at Jesus’ feet, while the other was busy serving Him. You’d think both are good things… so how could they possibly be at odds?

The message is called “Disguised by Distraction”—because sometimes our distractions look like dedication. Whether it’s comparison, performance, people-pleasing, or anxiety, distraction can blind us to the most important thing: being with Jesus.

ask youself this: What if your anxiety is an invitation, not a punishment? If you’ve ever felt pulled in a million directions, tried to outrun your own thoughts, or served until you were exhausted and still felt empty—this message is for you.

We’re not here to bash Martha—she got a lot right. But we will discover what Jesus called “the better portion” and how we can choose it today.

How often do you find yourself worrying about the needs of your life? Have you ever struggled with trusting that God will provide? This Sunday, we’ll hear the invitation of Jesus as He invites us to shift our surroundings to change our perspective (Matthew 6:25–34).

In a world filled with worry, Jesus reminds us to look at the birds and flowers—not only as part of nature, but as evidence that God is already at work. If He provides for the birds and the flowers, how much more will He care for you?

This week, we are encouraged to bring our worry and to surrender it to Jesus, as He reminds us that the Father already knows what we need- and He will provide.

We have so much to celebrate—last week, 19 people stood to put their faith in Jesus as Savior! What a special season we’re in as a church. THANK YOU for all your hard work and for inviting so many to hear the gospel!

This Sunday, we’re beginning a new series It Doesn’t Make Sense - Jesus and Mental Health.

We’ll start the series by looking simply at how to use God’s Word and prayer to face our struggles. From there, we’ll dive deeper into specific and practical steps. If more of us fought our battles with Scripture—just like Jesus did—it would make a world of difference.

We’ll be in Matthew 4:1–11 with a message titled Start with the Scriptures. How does God’s Word speak to our deepest fears? And what power is available to us that we so often leave unused?

We have so much to be thankful for—and even more to celebrate. This Saturday and Sunday, we get to gather in our new location to worship our Risen Savior. What a gift!

Who would’ve imagined that just three Easters into our church’s story, we’d be in our second home? We’ve prayed, we’ve given, we’ve invited, we’ve worked—and now, we get to watch God move.

This Sunday, Pastor Mike preaches a message on “Doubting Thomas” from John 20:24–31. It’s one of the most relatable moments in all of Scripture—Thomas’s “unless” moment. Doubt isn’t the opposite of faith... sometimes, it’s where faith begins. And Jesus doesn’t shame our questions—He meets us in them.

Ever needed just one more sign? One more answer? One more bit of clarity before you could fully believe? Or maybe you know someone like that? Whether you’ve followed Jesus for years or you're still not sure if any of this is real, this message is for you.

The risen Jesus meets us in our doubt—with scars that shout, “I love you.”

We’re just one week away from Easter weekend! We have been praying for all of you, asking God to give us opportunities to share Christ. This week, we’ll wrap up our series on different styles, personalities, and gifts, focusing specifically on invitation. We’ll look at John chapter 1 and explore the different approaches we see with various people.

There’s often a lot of pressure when we think about evangelism in our own strength. But when we view it from a biblical perspective, we realize the pressure is off us. Our job is to invite people to Jesus—not just to our church or our thing. And as we see in scripture, Jesus will handle the heart and head work.

It’s freeing to see how the disciples responded to questions and doubts about Jesus. In this story, the simple response is, "Come and see."

Some of us need to be better at waiting on God's timing. Some of us need to stop sharing and inviting altogether. And some of us need to be more active. This passage will wrap up everything beautifully in the series.

Why would we teach about hell? Most people have had bad experiences in church regarding this topic. It was often all about hellfire and brimstone, with little focus on the grace and love of Jesus. But what if these two topics go hand-in-hand? What if the most loving thing we could do is talk about the reality of hell? Jesus taught more about hell than He did about heaven, and as we strive to be like Jesus, we should have both compassion and conviction at the same time.

This sermon is not primarily about defending the teaching that hell is real— we've done that in the past. You can find that sermon here. This sermon focuses on the fact that hell is real, and it urges us to share Christ! We’ll be in Luke 16:19-31, discussing why we shouldn’t hesitate. When the man in the story experienced hell, it removed all previous excuses and hesitation. Abraham responds with a truth that you and I can follow to relieve all pressure!

This passage will reveal God’s heart for people and provide some guidelines we need to follow if we’re going to reach the lost.

A lot of people get defensive over silly things. In this passage, the Apostle Paul defends himself and his motives, explaining what he is preaching and why. Man counts numbers, but God counts names. That’s what we should count!

Last week, we had the incredible privilege of witnessing 21 individuals take the step of baptism. This Sunday, at our 8:30 AM service, we will hold our Elder Installation. We have so much to celebrate as a church!

We'll dive into Matthew 9:35-38, where we’re reminded of the heart of Jesus’ ministry. As we approach our move into the new building, it’s easy to focus on the space we’re gaining. But the truth is, what matters far more than the size of the building is the powerful message we carry—the one that transforms hearts and builds up people’s spiritual lives. Let’s stay focused on that mission and continue to impact lives for the Kingdom!

Celebrate with us the 10 people who stood to receive Christ as Savior last week! 🤯

If last week wasn’t enough, this week we are celebrating 16 baptisms in our services! We keep sharing these moments with you because we don’t want to forget how special this time is. We’re in a unique season as a church. It feels like revival. Let’s make sure we thank the Lord and be faithful to what He has entrusted to us, giving Him all the glory!

This week’s message is titled “Restore My Passion” from Romans 9:1-3. Passion is a strange thing. Why is it that our passion for God comes and goes? Why does our passion for the lost grow cold? Where is your passion? If you've lost your passion for the lost, or if you've never had it, how can we restore it and find it again?

You can't fake passion—it’s either there, or it’s not. We will talk about the signs that show we've lost our passion and how to reignite it!

Whatever you’re going through in life and where God has you, he has not forgotten you. It is easy to believe God has forgotten us, especially when other people are experiencing his healing power and we are not! We tend to stop going to God for something we once had great faith in. We tell ourselves to stop “bothering” Jesus, and I’m convinced he doesn’t want us to. He wants us to go to him in desperation at his feet and “Only Believe!”

We’re in an exciting and important time as a church! This Sunday will feature a standalone sermon covering who leads the church and how our church is led. We will explore the role of elders—what they do, what should be true about their character, and who the elders are that we’re presenting to the church.

Making this transition as a church lays a strong foundation for us as a body. In response to this message, our members will have the opportunity to vote and affirm our three elders as we officially establish our own elder board.

This Sunday, we will be in Colossians 4:12-18 with a message titled "Course Correct: Life Devoted to Jesus." In this passage, we are challenged to live lives devoted to Jesus in prayer, to display wisdom, and to be dedicated to serving in community.

This passage calls each of us to reorient our lives around Jesus and to live devoted to Him. Although this may be unpopular, God not only calls us but also empowers us to live for Him in every aspect of life. At the end of the day, we must all answer the same question: If Jesus gave His life for me, will I give my life for Him?

In this conversation, we will be stretched and challenged, while also being encouraged by the grace of Christ and His kindness toward us.

This Sunday we will be in Colossians 3:18–4:1 with a message titled “An Ancient Strategy.” God provides a blueprint for how our families and workplaces should function and for how we should interact with one another. His design is best—even if it isn’t always what we experience—and nothing else works like His way as prescribed in Scripture.

This passage calls each of us to a way of life that may not be popular. But when has following Jesus ever been popular? We don’t take scissors to the Scriptures; rather, we surrender our will to His and seek to follow Jesus. There will be six groups of people He talks to, and just to give you a heads-up, no one escapes this Sunday.

The beauty of following Jesus is that He will never ask us to do something He hasn’t already done Himself. This will likely be our most practical conversation yet because what happens in the home reveals where our hearts truly lie.

We hope you have enjoyed this study in Colossians. Chapters 1 and 2 have focused on what Christ has done for us and who we are in Him! In chapters 3 and 4, there will be a shift. How are we to live day-to-day, following Jesus? Everything we do should involve Jesus and be under His guidance—not just the hour at church, but the 167 hours we live throughout the rest of the week. It’s a call to be “all in” for Jesus!

However, most of us feel scared and nervous about being all in. What will people think? Can you really live without that current sinful habit in your life? Does it mean you can’t enjoy life anymore?

In this passage, God is trying to get our attention, show us our new identity, call us to community, and invite us to significance. What if you went all in for God andsent it? (which means, “to perform an audacious feat without regard for the consequences”). The passage is calling us to goall in for God, which, in reality, is the safest and most secure place to be.

This week, we’ll be finishing up chapter 2 of Colossians. Have you ever felt stuck in life? Spiritually, like you just can’t break free from sin, even though you want to? Or maybe you’ve felt like you’re not enough—like who you are and what you do isn’t enough for God, and that you don’t have what it takes to please Him? This passage is going to speak directly to those feelings.

In this portion of Scripture, we will address the false teachings about sacrifice and obedience that are still alive today. Thankfully, this passage will re-center our focus on Jesus as the source of all spiritual growth. If we have any hope of overcoming sin, it requires surrender.

This message is titles “Stuck on Self”—we’re going to focus on shifting our attention away from ourselves and onto the Savior this Sunday.

This week we're in Colossians 2:1-15 with a message titled “ONLY ONE!” Only one person deserves our full attention and affection, and there are people who will try to pull you away from Him. We’ll talk about when it’s right to warn someone, how to grow spiritually, whether baptism is right for you, and how to overcome shame! It’s a beautiful passage focused on Jesus, addressing some of the issues we face in our lives.WEBSITE: https://five39.church/FACEBOOK: https://www.facebook.com/five39church/INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/five39church/PODCAST: https://anchor.fm/five39-church/

Jesus is ENOUGH for you—he's all you're looking for! The gospel is like a diamond, with many different facets to look at. That’s what we’re doing in this series: looking at Jesus. If Jesus isn’t enough, why would anything else be? This week, we’ll be in Colossians 1:15-29. It’s a packed passage that will help us focus on who Jesus is, what He’s done for us, and what He calls us to. We’re commanded to stand firm on the gospel alone!

Jesus is enough to rejoice in your suffering. In this passage, we’ll see how the writer views his suffering as a gift from God for the sake of others. Isn’t that a radical idea? What if the difficult things in my life were there so others could see Jesus? What if I rejoiced in my suffering, walking through it with Jesus on display?

This Sunday, we begin our series through the book of Colossians, titled “Nothing Else.” Colossae was a church that was growing and doing a lot of things right. However, a false teaching started to spread that you needed more than Jesus to go to heaven and grow spiritually. You needed something else and someone else to fully please God. This same mindset exists among people today.

We see that Jesus + nothing = EVERYTHING! He is all we need, and we never graduate from the gospel or our need for grace and peace in our daily lives. This message is titled “Transferred to Testify.” There is a reason God has called you to new life, and it’s not for yourself. This passage is full of encouragement and helpful challenges as we seek to fully please the Lord with our lives—especially as we start out 2025. We don’t need more self-help or add-ons. We need more of Jesus in our lives!

Praise is the joyful recounting of all that God has done for us. That’s what we’re going to do this Sunday! Often, we are not great at celebrating what God has done.

This Sunday, We’ll be announcing how much God brought in through all of you for our New Ground offering!

We will be in Isaiah 6:1-8. When you encounter God, the only response is humility, repentance, and availability.

This week, we will be looking at Hebrews 12:1-2, talking about running the race set before us. What are we running toward? Are we keeping our eyes on Jesus? Who can we run this race with?

This week at our Christmas services, we’ll be focusing on Isaiah 9:6 and reflecting on the names given to Jesus 700 years before He was born. What does it mean that Jesus shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace? We will discover that these names describe His character and are exactly what we need in our broken, empty lives.

Christmas reveals two things for many people: our chaos and our need. Everyone is searching for hope and peace—and it can’t be bought at a store or online. When we read the Christmas story, we see people in scripture, just like us today, who are seeking the Messiah. They were drawn in and wanted to see.

This Sunday, we’ll be wrapping up our New Ground campaign and having a time of giving in every service. This will be the first offering we take as a church, and we’re seeking to raise $1 million! “If it is of God…”

We will look at Joshua 6 with a message titled “Don’t Quit on 6.” Have you ever wanted to quit or thought about giving up? If we’re honest, it crosses everyone’s mind at one time or another. What do you do when you feel like quitting? How do you trust God and walk by faith in those tough seasons?

We want to be on the front lines of revival, whenever that comes. One of the ways we step out in faith is by giving as a church family to this effort. You're not giving to a church for bricks and mortar; you're making an eternal investment. Imagine the next generation of kids, students, and people coming to know Jesus, and the lives He will change through this move!

Miracles aren't told on Monday; they're made when no one is watching. Now is the time when battles are won. We’re in the middle of a faith test as a church. We pass the test by not quitting, by moving forward, and by simply being obedient.

As we continue our New Ground series this Sunday, we’ll ask the question: Are we battle-ready? How do we prepare to face the battles and challenges that are inevitable in life?

Looking at a short passage in Joshua 5:13-15, we’ll see Joshua, on the eve of setting out to conquer the great city of Jericho, encounter an unexpected person who will give him the courage and strength needed to fight against Jericho.

Only when we submit to God’s battle plan will we be battle-ready to face our Jerichos.

This Sunday we will be diving into Joshua 4, where we see the Lord call his people to grab stones from the middle of the Jordan to build a memorial. This reveals that God’s miracles become our memorials—and these memorials are meant to point us back to His faithfulness, not just for us, but for generations to come.

As we march onward, how often do we take a moment to remember how God has moved in the past and let that fuel our faith for the future? How often do we share God-stories with the next generation? Why was something as simple as stones so important for God?

This is a moment in history where God revealed His power in order to impact His people in the present and for generations to come.

This Sunday will be one of the more challenging but necessary conversations we have in this series. Joshua is about to lead the people of God across the Jordan, but first, he challenges them: “Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do wonders among you” (Joshua 3:5).

Before they continue on to battle, they must consecrate themselves. What does that mean? How do we prepare ourselves for a spiritual battle? How do we set ourselves apart as holy, both individually and as a body? This is a story of great faith and how God moves in supernatural ways; however, holiness is required before wonders can be done among you.

This Sunday will mark the beginning of a 21-day fast for our church body, to prepare ourselves spiritually for this move. What is biblical fasting? Why do we fast? And how are we going to do it? We will ask ourselves, “What sin do I need to confess and cut off?” We are calling this season of our church Consecrate, because holiness is required if we want God to do wonders among us.

This Sunday, we will celebrate baptism and dive into Joshua chapter 2. How and why does God use a lying prostitute who ends up in the Hall of Faith? We'll explore her story and answer the question: Is it ever acceptable to lie for God? How and why does God partner with a prostitute to accomplish His purposes?

We’ll also take a look at the spies—how did they end up at her house? They have lessons to teach us about what to do, what not to do, and what to do if we find ourselves in the wrong place at the wrong time.

This story beautifully connects with the entire narrative of Scripture, illustrating how God initiates love for those broken by sexual sin. We’ll see that God doesn’t sideline those with sexual labels—He promotes them! What a tension we must wrestle with in this text.

This week, we’re kicking off our new series, “New Ground”, based on Joshua 1:1-9. This week, we dive into chapter 5 with a message titled “Approach Authentically.” We’ll gain wisdom from Solomon as he guides us on how to approach the presence of God. How do we come to God? What does that journey look like? What should we say to Him, and how can we truly listen? What if we feel like God is distant? Solomon is going to give some direction on how to approach God, reminding us that He prefers what is real over what is fake…It prompts us to reflect: 'Who has my ear, and what has my eye?' With election season upon us, Solomon will talk about who is truly in charge. What a remarkable time to be a follower of Jesus! We continue our series in chapter 4 of Ecclesiastes! This book is filled with so much wisdom as Solomon reflects on his life. In this part of the book, he shifts focus to some of his experiences that have led him to where he finds himself. Solomon is a very wealthy person, with considerable influence and many accomplishments, yet he is extremely lonely. Have you ever heard the phrase, “It’s lonely at the top”? Well, that’s what we’ll explore in this part of his story.

Most people live very lonely lives, and there are several reasons for this. How did we become so lonely? What should you do if you are currently experiencing loneliness? What insights does Solomon offer that can help us avoid becoming lone rangers and instead encourage us to live in community and influence others, rather than just ourselves?

How can we reflect on our lives, examine where we are, and make changes toward spiritual growth? Solomon reflects on his loneliness and seems to sulk in it, but we don’t want to live that way. Regardless of where we are in our journey with the Lord, we should pause and ask, “God, who are you calling me to be?”

This week we look at one of the most popular phrases in the Old Testament: “He has made everything beautiful in its time." There have been songs about this verse, and many of us say this, but how do we live it out? How do we have the wisdom to know the season God has us in? How do we have the grace to walk well through whatever we’re going through?

Solomon asks the million-dollar question: What happens after we die? He confesses that he observed death, but he is unsure where people go. Thank you, Jesus, that we now know what happens after death. Jesus went in the grave and came out 3 days later; now we can know! Most people gamble with life after death, and they don’t need to! We have the guarantee of eternal life! There is NOTHING better than that!

This week, we continue our series in Ecclesiastes chapter 2, titled "The Gift of Emptiness, Part 2." What is the role of ambition, purpose, and pleasure in our lives? How did the wisest man who ever lived fall into such sin and despair? How can you have wisdom but not the humility to steward it? This week, we will talk about walking in purpose rather than in pleasure.

There is a temptation to read this book of the bible and find it depressing. That’s not the goal. The goal is to learn and walk in wisdom, humility, and JOY with what God has given us. May we learn how to find enjoyment in all of life, for as Solomon reminds us, “There is nothing better” (2:24).

We’re excited to be back with you this week and start a new series, “Made for More." Eccl 3:11, “He has put eternity into man’s heart.” What if God has more for you than what you are currently doing and how you are living? Wouldn’t you want to know? And if he did, how would you find out what or who the “more” is?

This week we will be in Ecclesiastes 1 with a message titled “The Gift of Emptiness." We will look at the story of Solomon as he shares his reflections of his life about never being satisfied or content, always looking for what’s next, and being busy with the wrong things. It sounds a lot like how people are feeling and living today. Eccl 1:9 “There is nothing new under the sun.

We will talk about the “god” of busy and next in our culture and how that can pull away from God. There is so much to learn from this biblical character!

From a tainted past to a transformed life.

This sounds so good for anyone who’s had a past that they’d like to put behind them.

In John 4, Jesus has an encounter with a woman at a well in Samaria when Jesus isn’t even on her radar. Sometimes, we think it’s easier to deflect our past when it’s brought up than to come clean and let the living water of Jesus wash it away.

You’ll be reminded this Sunday... Though you can’t go back and make a brand-new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand-new end. Come all who are thirsty; the living water is waiting!

Why are we a hospital as a church? Whose idea was that? We’re going to look at a famous statement Jesus makes when he clarifies why he came and who he came for. It’s easy to point and judge people who need Jesus; anyone can do that, and sadly most religious people end up there. Jesus showed spirituality is measured by how many sinners you sit with, not by how many you know or can point out and judge.

Story Sunday | September 1st, 2024

This week we will continue into our series with Story Sunday! At times, attempting to share our faith can become stale, and we can lose steam. We wonder if God will ever change the person's heart we’re praying for? Hearing stories encourages, challenges, and reminds us God is changing lives, and it’s only a matter of time until he does the same in the person's heart we’re sharing with!

We will look at a familiar passage in Matthew 28:16-20. Jesus looks at a small group right before he ascends to the Father and gives them a command. His last words, which should be our first priority, often become the disregarded command. We think it’s for someone else who’s more qualified and experienced and has nothing going on in their life.

This week we kick off our series in Mark 2 with a message titled “Crew’s that Carry." We look at a powerful story; a group of four unnamed men who simply brought someone to Jesus. They believed that if they got the person in the presence of Jesus, the rest would be taken care of! So they get a man to Jesus, and his eternal destination and present circumstances change forever.

Often we are guilty of thinking we need to do more than just get someone to Jesus and his word. God did, and still is using gospel simplicity. We often add things on and think we can do the work, like Jesus needs my assistance in changing lives… the only part we get to play is bringing someone to him!

As we approach our 2nd birthday as a church, we will focus on the heart.

Jesus + nothing = ????

How would you really answer that question? Sometimes the temptation is to believe that Jesus is not enough, that we need more than what we have and more than what he’s given to us.

If Jesus is with you, you are no longer a minority, but you are a majority; you are sufficient rather than inadequate, effective rather than ineffective, powerful rather than weak. As long as you bring what little you have to Jesus, he multiplies it, blesses it, strengthens it, and makes it sufficient for need.

As we wrap up our series this Sunday on the “I AM Statements of Jesus” in John 15, we get a sense that Jesus stops us right in our tracks and says, “I AM the Vine.” Are we really connecting our lives to His? Has he become the source and the lifeline for our lives, or has Jesus just been thrown into the mix with everything else we have going on?
What does it really mean to produce fruit that will remain? How do we demonstrate this fruit every day as an indication that we are truly connected to the vine?

This week we look at the 6th claim Jesus makes: “I AM the Way, the Truth, and the Life.” Jesus is the way to the Father and ultimately the only way to receive eternal life. But how does that impact our lives here and now? When anxiety increases and the unknowns of life overwhelm our minds, where will we go? There is a problem with knowing where to go when we encounter the unknown in our lives. We don’t want to miss God’s plan for us, but even more than that, we don’t want to do the wrong thing. We don’t know which way to turn, and we constantly focus on the “what-ifs” of making the wrong move. This week, Jesus speaks to the worries of the mind and the hurts of the heart to reveal to us what “way” we must go. I look forward to learning more about this story with you all!

This week we look at the 5th claim Jesus makes: “I AM the Resurrection and the Life." Jesus is the only person who can raise the dead and bring actual life. How does he do that? More importantly, why doesn’t he do that more often in our own lives? When something seems dead spiritually, why doesn’t Jesus breathe life into it?

There is a problem with sickness, delays, persecution, and death. How does Jesus interact with those problems in John 11, and how does that relate to us today? How does Jesus make the decision to raise a man from the dead? We will see that Jesus responds in a powerful way, with emotion and action.

We find ourselves with the much-needed statement Jesus makes: “I AM the GOOD Shepherd." Today, most leaders are out for themselves, and they will let you down. Jesus is going to lead in an entirely different way; he won’t let you down; he will lay down his life. We'll be looking at John 10, where it reveals that our souls are starving for a savior and a shepherd. The great “I AM” is going to invite all of us to allow him to be the GOOD shepherd!

We continue our "I AM" statement series by looking at the third claim Jesus makes: “I am the door.” Jesus was teaching that he was the only way into the father’s house. He rebukes the religious leaders by giving a simple yet profound illustration. It was one that was simple and clear for people to comprehend but difficult to accept. Usually, that’s the problem with spiritual truth.

This passage will also beg the question: Am I experiencing the abundant life that Jesus offers every day? If you have walked through Jesus being the door for salvation, why are we so tired, stressed out, depressed, and depleted? Jesus will warn us about the enemy and how he will offer doors that steal from us spiritually. There is a daily door we must choose.

As we continue into our “I AM” statement series, we will look at a story in John 9 where Jesus heals a blind man and gives him sight! Jesus' power is on full display as the light of the world by making the blind see and turning darkness into light.

You don't have to look far to notice that we live in a dark world. We are constantly trying to make it through the darkness of our lives in the hope that there is light at the end of the tunnel. Jesus tells us that He is the light.

As we head into the summer, we’re spending the next 7 weeks specifically looking at Jesus! The most important person in the scriptures is the one who should be the most important person in our lives. During Jesus’ time on earth, he makes seven “I AM” statements that express who He is and how He relates to humanity.

This Sunday, we are kicking off a new series on the seven “I AM” statements of Jesus. We will see that behind every “I AM” statement Jesus makes, there is a story leading up to Jesus' claim of who He is. These are not ordinary or casual statements. These are statements that prove Jesus is God, and when we embrace them, they will change the trajectory of our lives forever.

This week we wrap up our series by looking at Elijah. There is so much wisdom to learn from this biblical character, but we will spend our time specifically looking at how he silenced God and how God slowed him down.

Elijah did a lot of things right, and God used him in mighty ways. However, he got caught up doing way too much for the Lord and neglected the most important part about him. What happens when you do a lot for God but don’t spend time with him? How does God speak to Elijah in this season of his life?

How do you hear from God when you’re disappointed and anxious? What do we do when we want something so badly from the Lord, promise to do right, and he puts us on hold? This week Pastor Mike teaches a message from 1 Samuel 1. We talk about the story of Hannah and how God put on a divine delay for a season of her life. The people closest to her are not helpful; they even make it worse with their words, which is typical when going through anxious seasons.

How do we manage anxious seasons in our lives, and more importantly, how do we hear from God about our anxious thoughts and do what he wants? This Mother’s Day, we will be learning from a woman of God who lived through a tough season. We will look back and learn from her response and worship! How can we live that kind of life?

We will be in 1 Samuel 3 with a message titled “Loud and Clear." What if God was loud and clear? In a day and time when it seems like everything and everyone else is loud and clear with their message, what about God’s message to us? How do we discern what he is trying to say to us?

Does God still speak through visions and audibly, as we read in the Bible? Where does godly advice come into play when trying to discern his voice? On top of all that, what happens when we finally do hear from God and we are not thrilled to do the thing he told us to do?

This week we’ll be continuing the series with a message titled “Soften My Soil." How’s your heart lately when you’re in God’s word? Has it been cold, dry, or even boring? Why is it that other things in life distract and pull our attention away from the living word of God? Why is it easier to pay attention to earthly things over God’s word? It happens to all of us over time in different seasons of life, but how do we address it?

This weekend we will be in a tough but good text, Mark chapter 4. We will be discussing the condition of our hearts, discipleship that will last, and, if anything, what we can do about it.

We are fired up to start our new series, “How to Hear from God." No matter where we find ourselves on our journey with God, we struggle to hear and discern his voice. How do we know when it’s God’s voice over our own thoughts? We all have big decisions to make, and we’re not sure which way to go. Maybe you’ve prayed, read his word, and sought counsel from other believers, and you’re still unsure?

Does God play a game of hide and seek, making it harder for us to get a response when we want Him to? Does God communicate that way to his children, whom he loves?

This week’s message is from Romans 12:1-2 called “Surrender Beforehand,” talking about giving God our “yes!”

This weekend’s message is titled: “Hurry, Climb Down Your Tree!" It is based on Luke 19 and the story of Zacchaeus. He was curious and seeking, not wanting to get caught. However, Jesus sees him, calls him down, and changes his life forever! Most people are busy trying to climb their trees and prove to God how much they can accomplish—all while seeking to see Jesus without getting caught. Jesus appears to be just passing through, but he has bigger plans for Zacchaeus’ life.

This week we’re looking at the resurrected Jesus in Luke 24 and asking ourselves, “How did Jesus share?” When he was sharing about himself, what did he do? How did he engage in conversation? How did he care for people? How much did he listen more than talk?

So often, we overcomplicate sharing the gospel with people in our lives. The gospel becomes old and stale, and we lose purpose. It can be easier to share about our latest hobby than the hope of the world. How does that happen? When the gospel is fresh, the gospel moves fast!

We need less entertainment in church and more of a move by God. Last Sunday seemed to be just that! We had 23 baptisms in total, and the number of stories we heard from people about how God was working in their lives was overwhelming! Thank you for investing and inviting people to FIVE39. We take that very seriously, and each Sunday is an opportunity to be stewards of the people God is sending our way.

On that note, we’re going to continue our series by looking at John 2. Jesus removed any and every barrier to make it as easy as possible for people to come into the presence of God. Religion often looks to add to and make it more difficult for people to get to God. Jesus came to make it easier to find and follow Him. He removed tables and distractions!

This week, we will continue our series talking about marriage! Why don’t most marriages last? Is there anything we can do now to make the marriage we’re in last? Our culture has devalued the meaning of marriage and the word “love.” What does it mean, and how do we cultivate love God’s way and build healthy marriages over a lifetime?

We have more resources than ever, but we are hurting and more confused than ever.

This Sunday, we will be talking about singleness and dating. What does God want for singles today? We will be trying to debunk some of the “myths” in our culture in a message titled, “Defy the Odds." How can all of us defy the odds and have successful relationships that honor the Lord?

This week we’re looking at one of my favorite chapters in the Bible, Ecclesiastes 2! We’re going to look at a character in the Bible who had all the opportunity to live on mission, but instead he chose a different path. A path that led to being miserable. What does it look like to find true abundance in Christ?

This Sunday we will be unpacking the prosperity gospel! Does God want us wealthy, healthy, and happy on earth? Does he guarantee that? On top of that, we will be discussing how to discern if our generosity is really coming from a place of joy or from a place of greed. Abundance is a tricky thing. For the follower of Jesus, it is even more difficult to discern if the blessing is from God and for God, or if it comes from a place of selfish ambition.

This week we continue our series by looking at the shepherds. They are an unlikely group to be in this story. I think everyone, at one time or another, has heard the phrase "love your neighbor." This Sunday we are looking at a challenging story from Jesus that defines who our neighbor is, and how we should love them. The church can be guilty of treating people more like projects, and if we’re not careful we can fall into that trap. Whether you have tied the knot or about to, every successful marriage requires work. If we are not willing to work on our marriage, we will have some rough seasons ahead of us. A great marriage doesn’t just happen overnight.

That certainly is tested in our culture today. Many of us like the idea of marriage, but if we are not willing to put in the effort, time, affection, and respect we will see indifference creep into our marriage.

What does a successful marriage look like? How can we avoid drifting into an indifferent or apathetic marriage? God calls us to be examples to the world, and what if our marriages served as a gospel light?
