It was a pleasure to have Jodi Calahoo-Stonehouse a Mohawk and Cree women from Michel First Nation and the current Executive Director of the Yellowhead Indigenous Education Foundation be our guest speaker. She leads our conversation about the history of settler colonialism, racism, and the impact these continue to have on Indigenous People living in Canada.  Jodi holds a BA from the Faculty of Native Studies and is currently working towards completing an MSc with the Faculty of Resource Economics and Environmental Sociology at the U of A.  Jodi also works with the Edmonton Shift Lab on anti-racism which has been received positively across Canada. She is the founder of Miyo-Pimatisiwin Productions and was the producer and broadcaster of an award-winning Indigenous radio program called Acimowin.  Jodi is co-producing a series called Love Medicine: interviews with indigenous and non-indigenous wisdom keepers, elders, and inspired individuals whose stories remind us that love is indeed the most powerful of all medicines.

Jodi has acquired a wealth of understanding regarding the impact of racism and intergenerational trauma from all forms of systematic violence Indigenous People have endured throughout Canadas’s history.  During this podcast she shares with us her knowledge regarding Treaties, Residential Schools, the Sixties Scoop, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, the Murdered and Missing Women and Girls Inquiry, and the meaning of the Land Acknowledgments.

Jodi offers hope and strategies on how we can reconcile the history of violence and racism against Indigenous People and how we all can move forward in a working relationship to live a harmonious life together as treaty people.

Spend time with us for this conversation to discover these and other topics that are relevant to gaining a deeper understanding about how racism and violence against Indigenous People has tragically equated to a vast population of Indigenous People who are without a structure to live in, on their homelands.

An interview with Ellen Charge about a street medicine model to better serve the homeless, using paramedics with an expanded scope of practice and oversight by engaged physician consultation. The program was implemented to give basic primary and urgent care in the field.  The team is also able to advocate for connections for patients to required services.  Experienced paramedics are an ideal choice due to the unique skill sets in uncontrolled environments and problem-solving.
