Some Bible nerds really struggle with the idea of Good Friday. After all, Jesus said that the sign proving He was who He claimed to be, was that He would spend 3 days and 3 nights in the grave. You can’t get that from a Friday resurrection, no matter how hard you try.

For most of the past 2000 years, a horrible sin has haunted Christian belief. Replacement Theology teaches that Israel and the Church are separate, and that God has moved past Israel to a new era focused on the Church. This is wrong. It’s time to deal with it.

Jesus has just been baptized by John - not as an act of repentance for Himself, but as a metaphor for Israel. The Apostle Paul later connects baptism to Israel’s Red Sea crossing. So, if Israel exited the Red Sea and entered the wilderness, it only makes sense that Jesus does the same thing.

Whenever I read the word “Temple” in the Bible, I think of the physical building that stood in Jerusalem where the Priests and Levites conducted the sacrifices thousands of years ago. But like everything else in history, Jesus redefined the Temple. The religious leaders were confused about it. So, we’re in good company. Let’s try to understand it better.

Jesus calls Himself, “Son of Man” more than seventy times in the Gospels. This is a Hebrew term for “human” or literally, “Son of Adam.” But when Jesus is using it, He’s tapping into a vein of belief that a Divine Man would become the Messiah. And Jesus’ claims ultimately got him crucified.

Jesus is in the Upper Room with the disciples. He knows He’s leaving there to be betrayed, tried, and crucified. In the middle of the crucifixion story, Matthew stops to explain something that happens three days later. The Talmud has a very special “blessing” in it: “May you be covered in the dust of your rabbi, and may you drink deeply from their words.” A disciple sought to follow and observe their rabbi so closely that they would become covered in the dust the rabbi kicked up as he walked down the road. In the story of Joseph, Mary, and Jesus fleeing Israel and seeking refuge in Egypt, we see many allusions to Old Testament Scripture. The Slaughter of the Innocents mirrors pharoah’s murder of the baby boys in the Exodus story. That one is easy to see. But Matthew ties in two other passages from the Hebrew Scriptures. And these are much more difficult to work with.

The Kingdom of Judah was doomed. Their enemies surrounded and greatly outnumbered them. Their only hope was to cry out to the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob and ask for Him to intervene. What happened next should teach us how we should fight our battles. It all begins with knowing that God’s love is our war cry. I’ll prove it to you in less than 10 minutes.

Biblical Justice is a difficult topic. Our definition of the term is clouded by political agendas and terrible theology. In the Biblical Worldview, followers of Christ understand that justice isn't just a good idea. It's required. So, we better understand what it means. It starts with a Hebrew word that means both “righteousness” and “charity.” I’ll prove it to you in less than 10 minutes.

“Did you hear what I said?” My wife, Christy, and I say these words a lot. We may be trying to get our boys to stop talking and start eating, or to clean up their rooms, or to do any number of things. The point is always the same: stop doing what you’re doing, listen to what I’m saying and obey it. This is the meaning of the Hebrew word, “shema.” It’s the most important word in the Bible. Your nativity set is defective. If it has three wise men at the manger presenting their gifts right alongside shepherds to a “dear 8 pounds 6 ounces newborn infant Jesus, who don't even know a word yet,” this episode should turn the entire Christmas story on its head for you. If there’s anything we know about God, it’s that He’s good. He proved His love for us by becoming a man and dying for us. So, that’s kind of non-negotiable for Christians. Critics will try to shake your faith by suggesting that the virgin birth of Jesus is a fantasy. They’ll tell you that Matthew was a fool who read something into the story that isn’t there. And that this caused him to make up the entire virgin birth story. These critics are fools. Because Matthew’s main point isn’t that Mary was a virgin. It’s that her child is the Son of God.

Matthew begins his Gospel with Jesus' genealogy. Most scholars agree that these verses are an argument for Jesus legal standing as the Messiah of Israel. But verse 17 could call this into question. A generation is missing. And because of this, you might even argue that Matthew is hiding a secret clue revealing that Jesus IS NOT the Messiah. What does this missing generation really mean?

One day, Jesus was healing in the Temple when the children around Him began to shout “Hosanna to the Son of David!” The Temple leaders hated this, and told Jesus to make them stop. And this is just one of dozens of hints for better Bible study all over the Gospels. I’ll prove it to you in less than 10 minutes.

In the First Century AD, a despot sat on the throne of Israel. History has recognized him as a brilliant leader, a masterful architect, and a cunning diplomat. But Herod the Great was also unbelievably paranoid and horribly vengeful. His story ends just as the story of Jesus begins. Ephesians 2:8-9 are two of the most beautiful verses in the entire Bible: “For by grace you are saved through faith, and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God. It is not from works, so that no one can boast.” The problem is, most of us stop there and ignore why we’ve been saved by grace. It’s so that we can do good works. It’s critically important to the mission of Jesus on Earth. And I’ll prove it to you in less than 10 minutes.

Raise your hand if you've heard this "Law VS Grace" thing before: God gave the Law to show us the difference between right and wrong. If anyone was able to perfectly obey it, they would never die or be punished by God. The bad news is that none of us can even come close to keeping the Law, and that means we're all going to Hell. But the good news is that Jesus DID perfectly keep every part of the Law. And because He was perfect and we aren't, He died for us so we don't have to. Now, we don't have to keep the Law anymore because we couldn't really do it in the first place. And that's called "grace." The problem with all of this is that Jesus said the exact opposite, and I'll prove it to you in less than 10 minutes.

Have you ever wondered why so many Christians act like there's an Old VS New Testament battle going on when they read the Bible? Megachurch pastor, Andy Stanley, went so far as to suggest that churches should "unhitch" from the Old Testament. This idea isn't new. It's been around pretty much since the Day of Pentecost. And it's all because most Christians have spent 2,000 years with their biblical paradigm upside-down. This is a big no-no, and I’ll prove it to you in less than 10 minutes.

A few years ago I had lunch with a pastor who had launched one of the largest, most influential churches in America. He told me that when he disciples a new Christian, he ONLY gives them a New Testament, because “the Old Testament will only confuse them.” I couldn't believe that an influential pastor like him taught new Christians this is how to study the Bible. This is absurd! It's a TERRIBLE mistake that goes against everything Jesus taught, and I’ll prove it to you in 10 minutes.

About two-thirds of the way through the Christian Bible, there’s a blank page. That page represents a period of 400 years between the end of the Old Testament and the beginning of the New Testament. Christians who ignore this page and what it means are responsible for terrible misinterpretations. If you’re making this mistake when you study the Bible, here’s a warning! You’re ignoring “The Most Dangerous Page in the Bible.”
