For episode #28 of the podcast I sat down with DJ, producer and Techno/Jazz artist Rebecca Vasmant.
With a career spanning over 15 years, Rebecca has vast experience in the music industry. Initially starting out as a Techno DJ, she has gradually transitioned into her biggest passion and love - Jazz. She is now at the forefront of a growing and vibrant Glasgow jazz scene, recently presenting the documentary ‘DIY Jazz in Glasgow’ on BBC Scotland.
Rebecca hosts her own residency ‘Era Suite’ at Sub Club and has DJ’d and performed internationally, both on her own and alongside her collective, ‘The Rebecca Vasmant Ensemble’.
Expect to hear the lessons she learned from 2022, how her early life and experiences influenced her as an artist, how she spent the majority of her early twenties on the Sub Club dance floor, the process of filming a BBC documentary, transitioning from Techno to Jazz, the process of producing a debut album, how she balances life and career and much more.
For episode #27 of the podcast, I will be chatting to Mitch & Max from Craigie Knowes.
Since 2015, Craigie Knowes has been consistently releasing some of the finest electronic music from artists around the world. From breakbeat electro to acid house and everything in between, the eclectic sounds of their label has built them a well deserved international reputation in the music scene. Their catalogue includes releases from names such as Derek Carr, Eluize, Rudolf C, Cromby and Jensen Interceptor.
As well as the label, they have DJ’d various international venues and festivals and also run their own residency in one of Glasgow’s beloved clubs, La Cheetah.
I’m a huge fan of the label so it’s an absolute pleasure to get the chance to speak to them both.
Expect to hear about early life in Perth, how a school rivalry sparked a friendship between Mitch and Max, starting to DJ and put on parties in Perth, discovering Sub Club, running a label, DJ’ing worldwide, who knows Craigie Knowes the best, what music means to them and much more.
Joining me for episode #26 of the podcast is artist Petrichor, aka, production tutor and music obsessive Simon Stokes.
Simon has performed, DJ’d and released music under the alias ‘Petrichor’. He is the only Ableton certified instructor in Scotland and runs an electronic music academy in Glasgow, Subsine Academy, educating people on music production through a variety of courses.
Expect to hear about Simon’s early life in Edinburgh and his initial musical interests, how moving to Glasgow and discovering Sub Club gave him an education in electronic music and DJ’ing, the meaning behind his ‘Petrichor’ alias, signing with Soma and releasing music, his creative process in production and how he enjoys working conceptually as an artist, if music in the modern world has lost it’s meaning, beginning to teach music production and opening Subsine Academy, what the courses at Subsine academy include, and advice he has for producers to improve and become comfortable with their own style and sound.
Joining me for episode #25 of the podcast is the absolutely sound and incredibly talented duo, Macka & Lowree aka Cammy Mcleod and Joe Loughrey.
Both originally from Edinburgh but now residing in Glasgow, the pair of DJ/Producers have been gigging and collaborating for several years. Bonding over their love for music, they have released several projects together, including their recent album release on Fresh Take Records, ‘Without The Music (I Dont’t Know Where I’d be Dancing)’.
Expect to hear how they first met in their younger indie days as members of different bands in Edinburgh, how Lowree’s Dad’s role as A&R at Creation Records influenced his musical interest, their early days putting on parties andf DJ’ing in Edinburgh, their creative process in the studio and how the album came about, their advice for artists starting out in music production, how a made up word from Lowree’s mate resulted in a tattoo, receiving support from Pete Tong on Radio 1, and what’s coming up in the future for Macka & Lowree.
On Day 3 I was joined by Optimistic Soul, aka Sibusiso Mpofu.
A resident of both Sub Club with Jaiva and Berkeley Suite with Africa Is Now, Optimistic Soul is putting the sounds of his cultural roots into the city of Glasgow. A modern pioneer of the afro-house genre, with inspiration coming from artists like Black Coffee and Kerri Chandler, he has been dj’ing for a number of years now and is gradually building a solid reputation for himself in the club scene.
Expect to hear his thoughts on being on the Riverside lineup, how his club residencies in the city are going, how Glasgow has reacted to the sounds of afro house, how he takes his music career each day as it comes, his musical influences, why Black Coffee means so much to him and what’s coming up in the near future.
On Day 3 I was joined by Peach Glasgow residents K4Cie and Iso Yso.
Starting in 2017, Peach has been throwing parties across the city of Glasgow for several years. Due to a scene dominated by male influence, K4CIE and Rachel felt there weren’t enough safe, inclusive and comfortable club spaces where females could enjoy the sounds of hip-hop, rap and trap genres. Building a solid reputation in the city, residents Iso Yso and K4CIE brought a unique and original sound to the Satellite Stage of Riverside Festival.
Expect to hear how it feels to feature on this year’s lineup, how and why Peach started, how both residents got interested in music and why they started to DJ, memorable Peach parties over the years, their personal experiences of lockdown and what’s coming up in the Summer for Peach.
On Day 3 I spoke to artist and photographer Junglehussi, aka Matthew Arthur Wiliams.
Hearing 90’s dance music through his older siblings as well as genres like reggae and dancehall, Junglehussi was exposed to music at a young age. Originally from London, he moved to Glasgow to study photography at the Art School. He has played in various venues around the city like La Cheetah and Berkeley Suite.
Expect to hear how he was exposed to music at an early age, why he moved away from London, the meaning behind his DJ moniker, his experience opening the main stage at Riverside, how his creativity is intertwined in both photography and music, and what’s coming up in the near future.
On Day 3 I spoke with Edinburgh Disco Lovers.
Comprised of Jack, Steven and Fraser, Edinburgh Disco Lovers is a collective providing safe and inclusive spaces for all members of society to party and enjoy the soulful and funky sounds of disco. They focus on inclusivity in the club scene whilst also raising money for important causes and charities. They opened up the Satellite Stage on the final day of Riverside and featured at the SWG3 afterparty.
Expect to hear how they met and started the collective, how they developed an interest in music, why disco is so important to them, their greatest disco track of all time, their recent experiences running nights in Edinburgh including hosting Artwork, and what’s coming up in the future.
On Day 3 I sat down with rapper Bemz.
With his recent show at King Tuts being the first ever sold out show for a rapper, and now being the first rapper to ever play at Riverside, Bemz is a trailblazing artist on the right track to greatness. BBC Introducing’s Scottish Artist of the Year for 2022, he brings his charistmatic, high energy performing style to the Satellite Stage at Glasgow’s favourite festival.
Expect to hear how life’s been going since we last spoke on the podcast, his thoughts on his sold out headline show at King Tuts, how his recent success is inspiring his writing and music, how he’s being the change he wants to see, when we can expect new music and how he wants to branch out into DJ’ing as well as rapping.
On Day 3 I sat down with Patti from All Night Passion.
A collective based in Edinburgh and Aberdeen, All Night Passion have been providing parties filled with the finest house and disco for a number of years. From their time spent seeing legendary DJ’s such as Optimo Espacio and attending afterparties in Aberdeen, Patti and Sean have acquired a solid music taste and collection of records that are sure to get dancefloors moving and grooving.
Expect to hear how All Night Passion began, their experiences of seeing DJ’s like Optimo, memorable moments from running parties over the years, adjusting to the club scene again post-pandemic, preparing for a festival set at Riverside and their plans for the future.
On Day 2 I spoke to selectress OK Williams.
Born and raised in London, OK Williams dropped out of University in 2019 and decided to pursue DJ’ing. After becoming a resident at NTS Radio, making her Boiler Room debut and appearing in various venues across the globe, the genre-bending DJ now finds herself on the Riverside 2022 lineup.
Expect to hear how her set at Riverside went, how she got interested in DJ’ing, her interest in a variety of genres, how she’s adjusting to the hectic lifestyle of being a DJ and her plans for this Summer.
On Day 2 I spoke to DJ and Producer Nightwave.
Originally from Slovenia, Nightwave found her way to Glasgow via London due to the city’s vibrant club scene and reputation for the heavier sounds of techno. A resident of Glasgow’s La Cheetah for the past 9 years, she has cemented her status as one of Glasgow’s best electronic artists and deservedly earned a slot on the main stage at this year’s Riverside Festival.
Expect to hear how her set at Riverside went, how she got interested in electronic music, her memorable moments from over the years at her residency in La Cheetah, how as well as rave music she's written music for films and TV adverts, her advice for aspiring young artists and what’s coming up in the near future.
On Day 2 I spoke to residents of Rare, Macka and Kooshty, aka Cammy McLeod and Kirsty Fraser.
A previous guest of the podcast, Macka makes his Riverside debut this year shortly before the forthcoming release of his debut album on Fresh Take Records, collaborating with longtime friend Lowree. Nominated for 'Best Electronic Act' at this year's Scottish Alternative Music Awards and making appearences across the club and festival circuit, Macka is on the right track for success.
Kirsty began to DJ towards the end of high school and spent a lot of time bedroom DJ'ing in lockdown before the clubs opened back up. Joining RARE, she now has gained experience playing regularly in one of Glasgow's finest club spaces La Cheetah, as well as a recent slot in Berkeley Suite for Polka Dot Disco Club.
On Day 2 I spoke to DJ Jay Celino.
Born and raised in Glasgow, Jay has been involved in the club scene for a number of years. With experience as a resident of La Cheetah based event collective EZUP and gigs alongside the likes of Jackmaster and Skream, Jay is a DJ who has crafted his sound and earned himself a headline spot on the Satellite Stage at this year's Riverside Festival.
Expect to hear how an unexpected opportunity from Artwork led him to take up DJ'ing, how a trip to Sub Club turned him from a hip-hop enthusiast to an electronic music fan, experiences DJ'ing with Jackmaster and Skream, how he prepared for this years set at Riverside and his plans for this Summer.
On Day 2 of Riverside Festival I was joined by DJ and photographer DIJA.
With experience playing various venues across Glasgow, DIJA finds herself back on the Riverside lineup for the second time. Growing up in Glasgow and becoming immersed in the club scene within the city, DIJA developed an interest in electronic music. As well as DJ'ing, she also studies photography at the Glasgow School of Art.
Expect to hear how she became interested in electronic music, how her Egyptian/Lithuanian heritage influences her sound, her experience living in LA and what it was like warming up for PinkPantheress at her recent gig in Stereo.
On Day 2 of Riverside Festival I was joined by DJ's Oscar and Fin from Curated Wax.
Curated Wax initially started in lockdown as a record subscription service, but after bonding over their shared love for record collecting and music, Oscar, Fin and Joe began to run nights in Glasgow's beloved Berkeley Suite.
Expect to hear how Curated Wax came about, how buying a collection of 2,000 records influenced their DJ'ing, their experience running nights in Berkeley Suite and what's coming up for Curated Wax in the near future.

On Day 1 of Riverside Festival I was joined by artist Kavari.
A lover of darker, heavier sounds, Kavari is a techno artist on the rise. She received a nomination for the Best Electronic Act at the Scottish Alternative Music Awards and has played numerous gigs across the UK, earning a spot alongside Techno's biggest names at Riverside 2022.
Expect to hear her background and childhood, how Deadmau5' track Strobe kickstarted her interest in electronic music, her process of making music and why she prefers live sets over just DJ'ing.
On Day 1 of Riverside Festival I was joined by DJ, producer and co-founder of Animal Farm, Quail.
Growing up in Glasgow and influenced by artists like Jeff Mills and Speedy J, Darren has been involved in the Techno scene for a number of years, co-founding Animal Farm and running nights in venues like Sub Club and Room 2.
Expect to hear how he got interested in electronic music, how he started Animal Farm, the changes in the scene over the years and his experiences of promoting events in Scotland for nearly 18 years.
On Day 1 of Riverside Festival I was joined by DJ + Producer Farnaz.
After moving from Tehran to Glasgow, Farnaz has immersed herself in the music scene and is building a reputation as one of the up and coming Techno artists in Scotland. With gigs alongside Slam and Animal Farm at venues like Sub Club and SWG3, her fast heavy sound is one that ravers will be sure to take notice of.
Expect to hear about her experience at Riverside Festival, the struggles she faced as a woman in Tehran, the love and support Glasgow has shown her and what's coming up for her in the near future.
On Day 1 of Riverside Festival I was joined by members of Lunacy, Sebastian Swarm and Gorbals Nebula.
Putting on warehouse parties and playing venues across the city such as La Cheetah and Room 2, Lunacy has been involved in the Glasgow music scene for years. Acquainting through their love of music and partying, Zach and Chris now run various projects through Lunacy, such as their record label, podcasts, clothing and their own brand of rolling papers.
Expect to hear how they met, starting Lunacy, their experiences as DJ's and sending a pack of rolling papers and a joint up to space.
For episode #24 I was joined by none other than Harri.
A true pioneer with a career spanning more than 30 years, James 'Harri' Harrigan is unquestionably one of the most influential DJ's in the Glasgow music scene. Starting Subculture in 1994 - which still stands as the longest continuous club residency in the world - Harri, alongside Domenic Cappello, has built the reputation of Sub Club up to worldwide acclaim with countless nights of incredible music.
We discussed all things music, Sub Club, becoming a father, Glasgow and discussed his career as a DJ. Honoured to have had the chance to speak with him.
My guest for episode #23 of the podcast is DJ and Producer Luke Secmezsoy-Dunn, better known as Lotrax.
Known for his groovy, deep house productions, Lotrax is a Producer turned DJ who has been building a reputation for himself in the UK music scene.
With experience playing in Glasgow and Manchester, releases on a variety of labels and his track ‘Give Me Some Luv’ featuring on Radio 1 as the BBC Introducing Dancefloor Moment, Lotrax is someone who lives and breathes music and is focused on career success.
We discussed his current DJ/AI honours research project, how he discovered his love for music, his creative process in production and advice for sending your music to labels.
Joining me for episode #22 is DJ, Producer and Promoter Liam Gourlay. Liam is part of Mindset, Outer Circle and Switzerland based collective Keep It Going.
With huge experience playing in Scottish venues like La Cheetah and Berkeley Suite, Gourlay has also been behind the decks for a number of international venues in countries like Argentina, Germany, Belgium and London.
We chatted all things music and his experiences in the electronic scene. Liam also shared his perspective on life, why he is grateful for the opportunities he has and why happiness is so important to him.

Born in Granada and moving to Glasgow aged 18 to study, Dan has found a love for the Glasgow music scene resulting in him staying in Scotland. With multiple releases on records such as Fresh Take and Basement Discos, his deep and funky productions have earned him a solid reputation.
In this episode we discuss moving to Glasgow, his early influences, his creative process in music production, being a part of Disclosure’s online festival and releases he has coming up in 2022.
For episode #20 of the podcast I am joined by DJ and Producer Wheelman, aka Johnathan Fernandez. Born in Glasgow, Wheelman has been passionate about electronic music from an early age.

For episode #19 of the podcast I'm joined by rapper Bemz aka Jubemi Iyuku. Nigerian born, raised in London and Stranraer and eventually finding home in Glasgow, Bemz is an artist with his sights set on greatness.
In this episode you can expect to hear Bemz story, all about his early life and musical influences, becoming a father, his approach to making music, how he is his own worst critic and what he has in store for 2022.
For episode #18 of my podcast I am both buzzing and grateful to be joined by the brilliant Darren McGarvey. He is a rapper, writer and social commentator and is without a doubt the most insightful and interesting person I have talked to so far.
Originally starting out as an MC and hip-hop artist, Darren has released albums and projects under his alias 'Loki'. He has had several BBC series's which look at social inequality and class in Scotland, and his book 'Poverty Safari' won the prestigious Orwell Prize in 2018 and received great reviews nationwide.
To get the chance to speak to Darren and hear him talk about his musical influences, career and his creative writing process was amazing and I look forward to sharing this conversation.
In this episode of the podcast I sat down in the new studio setup with Glasgow DJ/Promoter collective and my good mates All U Need. Comprised of Zander Coulter, Alex Dobie and Graham Brown, they have been DJ’ing and running events in Glasgow for the past 7 years across venues like Flat 0/1, SWG3 and now every Thursday at Sub Club.
It was an absolute pleasure to have them on the podcast and I had a belter recording it. The stories and experience AUN have are well worth the listen and for anyone involved in the Glasgow music scene, Im sure there is plenty you will take away from this.

Keith is a producer and DJ with qualifications and in-depth knowledge about sound design and production.
Originally developing his craft in bars and nightclubs in Edinburgh, Keith has played a variety of gigs and venues around Scotland and over in Ibiza, as well as working on his own sound of Italo disco and 80's inspired synthwave house music. Keith also has his own YouTube channel - Timeless Mind Meditation - which we discussed on the podcast, as well as a huge new project he's been working on.

In this episode I chat to DJ Kane Kirkpatrick. Kane has been involved in a number of projects within the Scottish Music scene and currently holds two radio residencies with Scottish station Project Radio, and Miami based station Empty Plate, where he hosts his own show '+One'.

In this episode I talk to DJ and promoter Zander Coulter. Zander is1/3 of the collective All U Need and has been running events and putting on parties in Glasgow for several years. Hosting names like Kettama, Ejeca, Lone and Sharda, they have held residencies in venues such as Flat 0/1, The Buff Club and Sub Club.
We spoke about how he started DJ'ing, becoming a collective with All U Need, experiences in the entertainment industry and building a name for himself in the Glasgow scene.
