Join us every Wednesday as we uncover the stories and inspiration that make this community so great. Hosted by Sean Corvelle.
Giles Chater is the CEO of Tough Mudder and Senior Vice President of Spartan. He was at the World Toughest Mudder event and spoke on the No Excuses podcast with Sean Corvell. He reflected on the event, the team, the community and the culture of Tough Mudder. He was very proud of the progress the team had made, particularly re-building the team from scratch and introducing slides and bibs for adaptive athletes. At the end of the event, he was seen expressing his joy at the accomplishments of the runners and was very smooth and charming when speaking on the mic.
"No matter how much progress we make, there is always more progress to be made and that energizes us to be able to again."

How often do you feel bloated and uncomfortable after eating? Have you been told to just "eat more fiber,” but you still don't feel any better.
Kate Cline is a registered dietitian and functional nutritionist who specializes in helping athletes with inflammatory and GI related issues. Kate is also the host of the Gut Check podcast.
Kate Cline had always been an active person, but after a series of injuries, she was starting to feel demotivated. She had a back injury that led to four years of pain, a meniscus tear, a dislocated shoulder, and arthritis. She was finally able to start running again. But then she severely sprained her ankle. Kate was starting to feel like she would never catch a break. Her boyfriend told her that she didn't know how to quit, and she realized that he was right. She had always been a fighter, and she wasn't going to let her injuries stop her. Kate was determined to recover.
She and host Sean Corvelle talk about:
The magic of food and nutrition
The importance of gut health
The power of the mind in healing the body

When Mark Macy is diagnosed with Alzheimer's, he and his son Travis decide to take on the challenge of Eco Challenge Fiji together, proving that anything is possible with family by your side.
We discuss Mark’s Alzheimer's diagnosis in 2018, how he felt leading up to it, and how he feels now. Travis reads some of his father’s inspiring and optimistic journal entries. Mace may have some new limitations, but that doesn’t stop him from living life to the fullest. Travis goes into detail on his own response to his father’s diagnosis and how he deals with the anxiety and panic attacks.
Travis and Mark chat about their love for outdoor activities and their OCR history, including Mace being the first person with Alzheimer's to participate in the Eco-Challenge Race.
Travis speaks about his book, “A Mile at a Time,” which brings light to taking a moment to stop, breathe, and be present while you tackle one thing at a time. He also has a podcast, “The Travis Macy Show.”

Kevin Betts, Director at Run Things. Kev lost his dad to suicide in 2003 after years of battling depression, and sadly it wasn’t a shock. This changed Kevin and the course of his life.
Kevin took up running as a way to cope, changing both his mental and physical health. He went from never running, to running 52 marathons in a year. We talk about how exercise can help those suffering with mental health. Preventing suicide is about educating people from a young age that there are not only other options, but other opportunities… Things can and do get better. Not being here anymore stops you from ever seeing that future.
Run Things focuses on the relationship between mental and physical health to positively impact people’s lives. Among other things, Run Things has a virtual running club that is inclusive, welcoming and open to all. They currently have over 700 members worldwide. Cason Crane asks you, "What is your Everest?" How would you respond?
In this episode, we talk with Cason Crane, who is an entrepreneur & endurance athlete, about the accomplishments he's made, how grateful he is for where he's at now, and how he's been helping change the world to a better place. In 2013, at the age of 20, he became the first openly gay person to climb the Seven Summits, taking the pride flag with him to the top each journey, raising money and awareness for The Trevor Project. We talk about what his life has been like since then, his new endeavors, new deals, new relationships, all of it. We couldn't finish our conversation in time when Cason first came on, so we got him back on a few days after to finish up. It was amazing having him on the show.

Why are psychedelics still so taboo? Can they really be used to improve our mental health? Is there a place for psychedelics in the fitness world?
We’re sitting down with Albert Garcia-Romeu, Ph.D., a member of the Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences faculty at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, to answer these questions and more.
Dr. Garcia-Romeu studies the effects of psychedelic drugs in humans, with a focus on psilocybin as an aid in the treatment of addiction and PTSD. He tells Sean the history of psychedelics, why they were banned in the first place, and how he hopes they’ll be integrated into our every day life.

"I always tell people that cancer saved my life. It absolutely made me find happiness. I don't know that I really knew how to live before I realized that I was dying."
When 30-year-old Courtney Burnett was completing her medical residency in Thailand, she started experiencing strange symptoms. Her left hand would tingle and cramp and her throat would do the same. A stressful few days eventually led her to diagnose herself with a brain tumor.
The journey that followed was emotional, chaotic, and eventually peaceful. In this episode of 'No Excuses,' Courtney tells Sean how cancer saved her life and led her to share her story in her memoir 'Difficult Gifts.' While we may not always want to receive them, life's difficult gifts often allow us to open our eyes and appreciate that which is right in front of us.
This emotional episode of 'No Excuses' is one that will touch your heart and maybe even open your own eyes to the difficult gifts in your life.
