8 Minutes to Ageless: Recent Episodes

Kelli Pearson

This podcast is terrific for anyone over 40 and under 100! It’s an excellent listen for those who want to live well up to the day they die. While that sounds morbid, it is better than dying a slow death unable to move during the ten years before that final day.

EPISODE SUMMARY:

Dr. Pearson talks about two case studies where both men had horrible neck pain and headaches when they looked up. One had been dealing with pain for 2 years and the other 7 years. It wasn’t a case of a stiff neck that needed to be manipulated, in fact, that has been tried in both situations without success. Learn what might else cause this type of restriction and learn a test to determine what might be causing your limitation of motion.

ON THIS EPISODE, WE DISCUSS…

  • How do you learn what the right questions are to ask?
  • Dr. Pearson talks about two different case studies of men with horrible neck pain.
  • Muscles in your back are connected to your neck.
  • The muscles in the front of your neck are also very important to take into consideration.
  • Get on your back and lift your head back. If that is easy for you, then you probably won’t have problems with your neck flexors.
  • However, if you lift your head up and tuck your chin in and you find yourself shaking, then it is a very good indicator that you have weak or tight neck flexors.
  • Now lay on your stomach and lift your head.
  • There are things you can do to fix the problems.
  • There are some clinics you can take with Dr. Pearson that will help with your neck pains.

EPISODE SUMMARY:

Judgment day…biblical sense seems harrowing. What if He gets it wrong and I am actually a good person? The idea of being misjudged when your life matters are scary as heck.

But I am talking about the regular old day-to-day judging we do to everyone around us. What are the positive outcomes of this? You might not think there is anything good about judgment, but if you use it to learn about yourself, it might be useful!

ON THIS EPISODE, WE DISCUSS…

  • Is there anything good about judgment?
  • Identify the people or energies you judge the most in the outside world.
  • Then identify the energy that is associated with that.
  • Work to heal yourself of the lower energies - it will take time.
  • Once you are aware of it, you can move forward.
  • Ground your new behaviour into a new relationship with the outside world.
  • What are you judging and mirroring back to yourself?
  • Dr. Pearson uses a couple of examples.
  • Recognize if you have done this before and why, then let go and move on.

Dr. Pearson talks about the magic of trying to find out if your shoulder pain is coming from a shoulder problem or just weakness of your mid-back muscles. You and a friend can sort this out. If you are lucky, you can treat your shoulder pain all by yourself! Life without pain is a life that looks easier!

ON THIS EPISODE, WE DISCUSS…

  • When we don’t know what is causing our pain, it causes a lot of anxiety because we don’t know how to get it fixed.
  • Once again, the sooner you take care of your pain, the easier it will heal and the better you will be in the long run.
  • Dr. Pearson talks about shoulder pains.
  • When you lift your arm above your head you start to feel pain. You have tried exercises, but none of them seemed to be working.
  • With the help of a friend, you can actually figure out what the source of the shoulder pain is.
  • Go to this link to see a picture of what Dr. Pearson is talking about: https://8minutestoagless.kartra.com/page/Ep78
  • You have spaces between your joints for tendons and if that space has been compromised it will hurt your tendons and cause you pain.
  • When you have bad posture, it will cause your muscles to become weak or stretched wrong.
  • Go to this link to see a picture of what Dr. Pearson is talking about: https://8minutestoagless.kartra.com/page/Ep78
  • Dr. Pearson explains what different muscles do during different movements.
  • Get a friend who is not afraid to touch you and note when your arm starts to hurt when you lift it up.
  • Have your friend stand behind you and place one hand on your pec muscle to stabilize you and have their other hand right over your scapula. They should be slightly pushing that bone in and down just a little bit.
  • Now lift your arm again. Is there still pain or has it completely gone?
  • If the pain is gone, then the good news is you just have weak muscles that you need to strengthen.
  • How do you do that?
  • Dr. Pearson talks about an exercise she has in her book that will help you with this.

EPISODE SUMMARY:

Today Dr. Pearson gets to talk about the value of responding instead of reacting, using the neutral pause. If you want to smash a huge percentage of your self-imposed drama, stress, and aging, this is a must-listen!

ON THIS EPISODE, WE DISCUSS…

  • Time to get back on the drama train.
  • Today we are going to talk about not respecting the pause.
  • There are times of emergency when it is reasonable not to pause, to stop serious physical damage.
  • But it’s important to take a pause and not just react when it comes to feelings and emotions.
  • Sometimes you will really beat yourself up for something you may have said because you didn’t pause and think about the consequences.
  • Dr. Pearson gives us an example.
  • Seek to understand instead of seeking to be understood.
  • Pause and see where the other person is coming from and why they feel or think the way they do.
  • Just let go of everything you are thinking and feeling and allow yourself to understand and feel what the other person is feeling.
  • Often just doing this will help the other person open up more and you are able to find a common ground.

EPISODE SUMMARY:

Dr. Pearson discusses an extremely difficult client and how she brought his community of providers all together to figure out what the foundational problem was and how they devised a plan. She provides great tips for those of you with chronic pain and the challenges of getting the right care. After all, pain shortens life so let's find ways to move through.

ON THIS EPISODE, WE DISCUSS…

  • Dr. Pearson discusses a difficult patient who has seen many providers.
  • She knew she was not making a dent so she did ask him to provide about seven other providers he trusts so they could do a case study.
  • Doctors will ask many questions and sometimes if you don’t speak simply things will get missed.
  • It is possible to be so stressed out that you can’t receive anything good.
  • The beautiful thing about having many different professionals gathered to talk is that you realize that there are things you might not know that others might see or know.
  • Providers can also become stressed because they don’t know what is happening or how to help.
  • If you are having a lot of problems and you can’t seem to find a solution, please, don’t be afraid to reach out and see if your provider is willing to gather with others to talk through things.

EPISODE SUMMARY:

Dr. Pearson gets a little “dramatic” about her upset of a new drug, Ozempic, being used to treat childhood obesity. Yikes! Please, listen to her simple rules of thumb for saving your child and your family from a life with unknown consequences.

ON THIS EPISODE, WE DISCUSS…

  • Dr. Pearson has been doing a lot of reading lately and would like to share her concerns with you about drugs used for child obesity.
  • She is going to share some simple do’s and don'ts.
  • She’s going to share about five to six rules here is what you should do and here’s what you shouldn’t do.
  • There are so many different types of diets out there that it can become confusing and overwhelming.
  • 45% of adolescents are moving towards obesity and 25% are prediabetic or diabetic.
  • Diabetes is to cancer what smoking is to lung cancer.
  • 80% of adults are overweight or moving toward obesity and 50% of them are prediabetic or are diabetic.
  • American Pediatric Association just came out with a guideline for young adults and children should consider taking drugs or having surgery if they are overweight.
  • The medication they came up with is Ozempic which is actually a diabetic medication, that reduces their desire to eat, but it’s an injection that they have to take every week for the rest of their lives.
  • If they stop taking the injection they may develop a metabolic problem that is unknown, they may gain the weight back to a greater degree, and the side effects are nuts.
  • The vast majority of obesity can be improved with what a person chooses to think about what they choose to eat.
  • We are being told so many different things with different diets that it’s easy to understand why people are getting so confused and just throwing up their hands.
  • When we get depressed or frustrated it’s easy to turn to our favorite foods and just eat away our problems.
  • So let's take a step back and ignore all these thoughts and rules of these other diets and try listening to some simple steps that Dr. Pearson is going to share with us.
  • Try to stay away from fake foods and turn towards real food that doesn’t have a list of ingredients.
  • If you eat animals make sure they were cared for properly throughout their lives and not forced to eat things they wouldn’t usually or given drugs to keep them alive long enough for slaughter. Don’t eat farm fish, they are fed horrible things.
  • Make sure you are drinking plenty of water.
  • Eat slowly, sit down in a chair, and enjoy what it tastes like.
  • Make sure you aren’t grazing all day long.
  • If you are eating processed foods you will find you are hungry all day long, but if you are eating real foods then you find you aren’t hungry as often.
  • Organic foods really do matter.
  • Stay away from foods that are not good for your gut. A happy gut is a happy brain.
  • Do these things for your kids so they don’t end up addicted to things that will be harder for them to drop as they get older.
  • You can’t make these changes overnight, but you can slowly get these changes worked in over a year.

EPISODE SUMMARY:

Dr. Pearson talks about how one of the best (worst) ways to create self-drama is to throw a couple of manly cuss words out in public and then wonder why. She shares her story about why swearing was a way to dissolve her introverted persona and force an extroverted behavior. Never a good outcome, list and find out why.

ON THIS EPISODE, WE DISCUSS…

  • There are reasons to swear, but there are very inappropriate times as well.
  • Dr. Pearson tells us about how she was an introvert and how she forced herself to become extroverted.
  • It’s amazing how your association can influence the way you act or the things you say.
  • Dr. Pearson did a workshop called Immunity to change and if you ever have a chance to do one she highly recommends it.
  • Identify what you want to change (swearing)
  • Identify why you want to change it.
  • What would you be losing if you were to stop?
  • What are the primary assumptions that you are making that make your answers to the previous question so uncomfortable?

EPISODE SUMMARY:

Dr. Pearson continues on the drama theme and touches on one of the most magnificent drama-makers of all - Jealousy. She defines this nasty emotion and guides you to explore ways to kill it. As always she throws herself under the bus while giving good examples of how the green envy monster got a hold of her and how she escaped.

ON THIS EPISODE, WE DISCUSS…

  • This week we jump back into the Drama.
  • Sometimes the jealousy loop can last weeks, months, or even years.
  • It’s essential to recognize jealousy for what it is.
  • As we age our jealousy changes.
  • Dr. Pearson touches on some of the different changes we might face.
  • She then tells us a story from her college days.
  • After trying to fix jealousy on her own, Dr. Pearson realized that fixing jealousy is really an inside job.
  • You cannot fix jealousy by changing someone else. You have to fix jealousy by letting go in your heart and trusting yourself.
  • When you look at what jealousy is in the bible it talks about jealousy and envy being the enemies of our soul.
  • Jealousy is the opposite of self-love; it’s a symptom of pride and a catalyst for conflict.
  • Conflict is Drama!
  • Sometimes the best practice is to just sit down with a journal and write down all the things you are grateful for and remind yourself of the blessing god has given you even if it’s not as great as someone else.
  • Stop minimizing the blessings you have been bestowed.
  • We all have gifts so stop comparing them to ones you think you should have had.
  • Dr. Pearson gives us another great example.
  • Jealousy will eat you up from the inside out. It would be best if you stopped it.

ON THIS EPISODE, WE DISCUSS…

  • Pretending to like someone when you don’t.
  • If you don’t figure it out then you will end up having some blowups.
  • Life is too short.
  • You will never get to a solution if you don’t become brave enough to sit down and have a conversation with that person.
  • Excuses and denial will not work.
  • Feeling disrespected or not heard can cause a great deal of drama.
  • These problems can happen all the time with different people, but you need to keep note and notice when it’s happening 4-5 times and then take action.
  • If you have the capacity to fix it then fix it.
  • Seek understanding, find out the why’s.
  • Dr. Pearson gives a few examples.
  • Make sure you are planning out a different time to sit down and talk. Don’t do it in the heat of the moment.
  • Let the other person know what the meeting is about.
  • Have them write out a list of the things that bother them about you and let them know you will be doing the same.
  • Naturally, we hate being wrong, but we hate even more being wronged.
  • The solution takes a calm mind, it takes a mind of awareness, and then patience because it will take some time to make things the way you want them to be.

EPISODE SUMMARY:

Dr. Pearson speaks to how easy it is to compare yourself to others, all the while forgetting what is working well in your life. Choose to be grateful for anything, anything at all. This will help pull you out of the drama dug out!

ON THIS EPISODE, WE DISCUSS…

  • No matter who you are there is always someone who has it worse than you.
  • “Comparison is the thief of joy.”
  • Often when we are being ungrateful we are comparing ourselves with others.
  • When you wake up in the morning think about what you have to be grateful for.
  • Focus on the good things and not the negative things we wish were different.
  • Dr. Pearson tells us about a client she used to treat.
  • Sometimes we overlook the beauty others see and only think about the things that bother us so much that we don’t realize that no one else sees those things as ugly or bad.
  • Pick one part of your body that you can learn to love.
  • Sometimes gratefulness is the key to a longer life.
  • Own what you look like, and be grateful for the pieces that you have got.
  • Sometimes you have to go to extremes to be grateful.
  • What if you lost the thing you are being ungrateful for? How would your life change if it was totally gone and there was nothing you could do about it.
  • No matter how small say thank you and be grateful for the working piece.
  • Be grateful for the things and people around you.

More importantly, she gives a few tips on how to be an honest human and leave the nastiness of the pull on our heartstrings behind. The goal is to lose the drama and move towards a sense of freedom.

ON THIS EPISODE, WE DISCUSS…

  • At nine years old Kelli lied to her mom and learned a lesson quickly and never lied to her again.
  • Sometimes we lie because we can’t face the truth.
  • Sometimes we lie because we don’t want to be wrong.
  • Truthfully the imperfections in each human are what make us.
  • There are many different reasons why we might lie.
  • What should we do instead?

EPISODE SUMMARY:

Dr. Pearson takes on the 3rd reason for perpetual drama in our lives. Fear. Are you choosing “yes” or “no” to an action based on the fear associated with that possible next step? She talks about multiple instances in our day-to-day when we are wracked with fear, whether we know it or not. (Spoiler, she talks about scary things she has done despite the felt fear, including doing the flying trapeze at age 65)

ON THIS EPISODE, WE DISCUSS…

  • Dr. Pearson talks about Fear, another factor that causes drama in our lives.
  • Everyone has fears whether they know it or not, whether they are willing to admit it or not.
  • There are times when you let fear overwhelm you.
  • Dr. Pearson gives us a few examples.
  • Sometimes fear keeps us from taking action for recovery.
  • Sometimes you just have to do one...two…three…do it!
  • People who hold things intend to have a lot more body pain than those who do not.
  • You have to get to the other side of the fear to see or feel the magic.
  • Too many people choose fear instead of possibility.
  • You don’t want to let your song die inside of you.
  • You have to take a risk.
  • You have to believe in yourself.

EPISODE SUMMARY:

Dr. Pearson talks about the silly situations her patients have reported that have led to chronic and hard-to-heal conditions. The theme of her message is the need to seek treatment sooner than later. The body is amazing in its ability to heal, particularly if you give it a head start.

Recommended books:

Joseph Dispenza - Rewire Your Anxious Brain

Chris Maher - Free For Life

ON THIS EPISODE, WE DISCUSS…

  • Dr. Pearson starts by telling us a story from when she was 18.
  • She had broken her hand and believing that it was healed removed the cast against her doctor’s wishes.
  • Now she has an overgrowth bone in her hand that sometimes hits her nerve and causes numbness and sometimes pain.
  • She looks back now and realizes that she probably should have been more cautious and listened to her doctor.
  • Dr. Pearson then tells us a story about a mountain climber that broke his leg and shattered his ankle in his early 20s.
  • He didn’t go see a doctor for several weeks after the injury and by the time he did the doctors told him it was too late to do anything.
  • Now that he is older he is having to deal with a lot of pain from that injury.
  • Thankfully Dr. Pearson has been able to help him with movement and he will get a little better, but he will never be the way he used to be.
  • Another story is about a young gentleman who tore his Achilles heel while playing basketball.
  • He did have surgery, but no PT and he continued to play on it hard.
  • Over time it affected his knee.
  • Pain is our best friend; it can tell us when something is not right and we need to attend to it.
  • A gentleman fell on a dock and broke about 4 or 5 ribs that ended up puncturing his lung.
  • He didn’t do anything to help with his rib mobility while he was healing and this affected his ability to bend.
  • This also affected his back and he ended up with acute lower back pain.
  • The overall point of all of Dr. Pearson’s stories is to take care of your injury.
  • Get in to seek professional help right away and then follow it up with proper care and learn how to move that injury the way it was supposed to move again.
  • DO NOT WAIT TO GET CARE!

EPISODE SUMMARY:

What can I do myself to get rid of my headache?

Dr. Pearson says, “I’m not fond of headaches, and I bet you feel the same way. My “why” for being a chiropractic physician is to give people the power to fix their pain.

Sadly, we can feel horrible for hours at a time with a headache, and all we typically do is run to the medicine cabinet and hope. I want to share ten tips that you can do to turn the corner on the headache and even get rid of the pain.

TEN TIPS...

  1. Pound the water: Drink two 10-ounce glasses of water. No ice, chug it. Best pain killer ever!
  2. While I am not a fan of drugs first, aspirin helps. Take 3 with your third glass of water. Aspirin, after all, comes from willow bark and the salicin in the will bark turns to salicylic acid the precursor and metabolite of aspirin.
  3. Take some magnesium or even better, take the magnesium within a properly produced electrolyte having the proper mineral salts in the correct ratio. (Magnesium of one of our critical mineral salts.) I love Lytebalance, and you get that online, and it does not contain sugar.
  4. If you suspect that you ate something funky, take some unactivated charcoal and let that absorb the toxins. You can do this with the aspirin as long as you are well hydrated. (This is a supplement you can buy easily and having it on hand before you need it is smart.)
  5. If you are constipated (been more than a day since having bowel movement), put castor oil on a cloth with a heat source on your belly for an hour and massage your belly in a clockwise correction as you look down on your stomach. Unhappy bowels can create headaches.
  6. Stretch your dura! The dura covers your brain and extends down the outside of the spinal cord, finally securing to the tailbone. Stretching the dura can be done in a couple of ways. Sit in the shower with knees tucked to your chest and your head dropped down, and let the hot water splash on your neck. Breathe and let go and stay there for at least 4 minutes. If you can’t shower, bend down slowly as far as you can with your arms heavy and head down. Stay there for 30 seconds or more if possible, and then roll up one vertebra at a time, taking another 30 seconds. Repeat this a few times. Note: If you are dehydrated, your head will pound when you bend down. (To watch a video of me doing this go to: www.8minutestoageless.com and scroll down to the Dural Stretch video.)
  7. Sit in a chair and do some deep belly breathing. Close your eyes and let go and trust.
  8. Use a topical anesthetic on your neck. (Bio freeze, Bengay, or CBD ointments.)
  9. Use a warm rice bag (1 minute to 80 seconds in the microwave) while sitting and doing your breathing.
  10. Remember, you will get through this. Trust your body. If you are a person of faith, ask for God’s help and be grateful in advance that this headache will let go.

ON THIS EPISODE, WE DISCUSS…

  • Today we have a guest speaker, Sabrina Gonder who will talk about her specialty the AO Scanner.
  • So many people are struggling, especially these last couple of years.
  • If Sabrina could have it her way she would suggest everyone get the inner voice scan which is one of the features of the AO scan.
  • It uses a technique called harmonizing and binaural beats to give those tones back to the person or the pets to balance out their emotions.
  • In 10 seconds she can take a voice recording that is full of frequency and come up with some tones that will balance out the tones that are out of balance.
  • Energy medicine may become the way of the future.
  • Sabrina then tells us a few examples of getting scanned.
  • Most people experience calm after being scanned.
  • You do need to listen to your tones about 3 times during the day, but the great thing is that it is fast to do, and you can multitask as you do this.
  • It is essential that humans use earbuds or headphones, but for animals, you play it over the speakers for them to hear.
  • Dogs, cats, or horses can benefit from hearing tones.
  • There is also color therapy where you can wear a certain color glasses while listening to the tones and get added benefits.
  • There is also a vitals report which is compromisable to a blood test and also a comprehensive test which combines the vitals and tones test together.
  • These are all educational tools, not diagnostic tools, they will only point you in a direction to look at.
  • There is a lot to this so be sure to look Sabrina up to learn more about what she can do.

During the second part of the podcast, she shared a case study where prayer was used to provide direction on how to get out of pain. Never underestimate the power of prayer. She discusses some insight into the value of motion palpation of the spine to determine how to fix a painful problem.

  • The Civility Workshop is designed to create compassion and respect with people you completely disagree with.
  • Have you ever wanted to say let me finish? Or had someone say that to you?
  • People who are angry or frustrated because they don’t feel heard tend to have more problems in their bodies.
  • Dr. Pearson then tells us about the power of prayer.
  • She tells us about when she fell and really hurt herself.
  • Dr. Pearson prayed for some guidance and she received a call from a colleague that she really respected.
  • Luckily enough she was able to go out for dinner with that colleague as well as another one that she really respected.
  • They gave her the answers she was looking for.

EPISODE SUMMARY:

Dr. Pearson talks about how the lack of proper grounding can result in body pain. She refers to her personal history of having a wrist fracture while a co-ed at UCLA, and relates the upstream challenges she had later in life. More importantly, she will discuss how self-mobilization and self-treatment can work to unwind those faulty patterns, and allow you to have a better relationship with gravity, leading to better grounding and less pain.

ON THIS EPISODE, WE DISCUSS…

  • Recognize the importance of being grounded.
  • Do you plant your foot properly?
  • How do your hands relate to what you are touching daily?
  • Dr. Pearson gives an example from personal experience.
  • After having a cast put on she took it off a week early, even though she was told she might have problems down the road she didn’t listen.
  • Luckily she never really had any problems until about 5 years ago when she slipped on the ice and re-injured it.
  • Dr. Pearson teaches us how to get down on the floor and see if our hands can be properly grounded.
  • She then teaches us ways we can help get our alignment back to where it needs to be.
  • If you would like extra help there will be a video available. Just email Kelli at kpearsondc@mac.com
  • Next week we will be talking about grounding through the feet, but in the meantime feel and study how you do in that area.

EPISODE SUMMARY:

Dr. Pearson shares some powerful information about her civility workshop and how it is opening minds and hearts. It is not about changing minds, but understanding minds and from there all things are possible. Information on how to sign up for this zoom class is included.

ON THIS EPISODE, WE DISCUSS…

  • The Civility Workshop has been going great.
  • The goal of this workshop is not to change people’s minds, even though that sometimes happens, but rather to understand mindsets.
  • Have you ever won an argument?
  • The fact is we don’t generally win arguments.
  • The workshops are two hours long
  • Offered the second Tuesday of every month from 4 to 6 PM PST free of charge
  • If you would like to join, just call the office and they will get your email at 509-927-8997 or you can email Dr. Pearson at kpearsondc@mac.com in the subject line put “Zoom Civility Workshop”
  • The value is you get to say everything that is on your mind and in your heart and you will not have to fear being challenged
  • It’s really about accepting and honoring; not finding the truth only your own personal truth.
  • You really get to hear yourself speak and sometimes you find that you no longer feel the same way
  • In that, you begin to change, but the changes are little by little
  • Dr. Pearson tells us about a gentleman that really struggled with listening to someone else tell their different thoughts
  • He really had to tell himself to stop and actually listen, be curious and listen to the story
  • Towards the end, it did get a lot easier
  • Dr. Pearson is reading a great book right now called “The Way Out How to overcome Toxic Polarization” by Peter T. Coleman
  • We are a product of the thoughts and biases we feed
  • So this week try to listen and look at things a little different don’t try to change someone else or knock them down because they think differently
  • Dr. Pearson tells us about two women who talk about a subject from two different perspectives
  • While the two women felt differently about the subject they both realized there were things they never thought about before
  • When they were done they both thanked each other
  • They didn’t change each other's perspectives, but gave each other a little insight and a little more understanding of how someone could feel the way they did

EPISODE SUMMARY:

Dr. Pearson discusses two case studies and illustrates how important our mindset is related to what we think our body can do, cannot do, what we think it needs or what we are unwilling to do!

ON THIS EPISODE, WE DISCUSS…

  • Everyone has a back story.
  • A Younger gentleman in his late thirty’s is our first case study.
  • He was raised to believe that you just buck up and let the body do what it can or wants to do and you just move on.
  • He didn’t believe in stretches.
  • Dr. Pearson got him to do 10 hinges twice a day for two weeks.
  • If you feel like something is a waste of time, maybe try asking how long it would take before you start noticing a difference and you might not find it a waste of time anymore.
  • The second case study is a retired gentleman who is always on the go.
  • He suffered from back pains and learned how to live with them.
  • After being told by many massage therapists that he was so stiff he started to believe that was just how he was.
  • He would do every stretch that was suggested to him.
  • He had a great range of motion.
  • Dr. Pearson had him do a sit and decompress device (that you can look up online)
  • They weren’t making a lot of progress and it was causing a lot of frustration.
  • They switched to a rotational stretch and it seemed to help.
  • Sometimes slowing down stretches is what is really needed.

EPISODE SUMMARY:

We talk about an example of how important it is to tell your story uninterrupted, and to make sure people are listening, truly listening to what you want to get across. This case example underscores as well how critical it is to share your past challenges and fears, no matter how silly they may be.

  • Honor what you have been through.

  • The gal was holding and pulling the door as a bigger guy was on the other side trying to push open the door.
  • Suddenly the door jarred open a few inches.
  • That had caused her slight pain and all the people who tried to help her thought it was just shoulder pain.
  • This is a person who was misunderstood.
  • Upon examination, Dr. Pearson noticed she was able to move her arm just fine when her scapula was held in place.
  • The little muscles next to the thoracic spine were put under so much strain they shut off.
  • Dr. Pearson gave her some exercises to help her brain remember how to use those muscles.
  • The pain and the fear were not just because of her shoulder pain it was also because of her past experience with cancer.
  • If doctors are told about everything in your past it is easier for them to tell you that it is not the cause and will be able to put your mind at ease when you overthink things.
  • Don’t be afraid to tell the people who are helping you that you don’t think their diagnosis is correct and why.

EPISODE SUMMARY

This episode focuses on a woman with chronic neck pain who tried literally everything. When it came right down to it we were able to identify some unconscious movement patterns that were contributing to the problem, and once we sorted that out we were able to give her some exercises to turn the corner for her.

ON THIS EPISODE, WE DISCUSS…

  • Dr. Kelli talks about a client that had chronic neck and back pains.
  • Dr. Kelli discusses her client’s range of motion during examinations.
  • She began stretches, hydration, and supplements that helped, but did not fully get rid of the problem.
  • Through more examinations it was apparent that the glutes were not firing the same. So Dr. Kelli had her do some mild squats and walking on hills to push with her leg to engage the glute.
  • The neck pains seemed to get about 50% better with pushing her glutes.
  • Dr. Kelli realized that something else had to be causing these pains along with the glutes so she looked at her breathing.
  • The client began doing the stretches that are talked about in the previous episode 10 times a day and continued working with her glutes.
  • She seems to be doing much better as it’s been a long time since Dr. Kelli has seen her.
  • It is extremely important to engage the mid-back muscles.
  • Remember once you start you can’t stop working these areas or it will not continue to get better or stronger.

EPISODE SUMMARY

While it may seem ridiculous to learn how to breathe correctly, in truth we have forgotten how to do it properly. Without accurate breath managing chronic neck and lower back pain can almost be impossible. This episode Dr. Kelli will explain why and what you can do about it.

ON THIS EPISODE, WE DISCUSS…

  • The power of Breath.
  • Dr. Kelli had the privilege of hearing from Pavel Kolar who is a physiotherapist.
  • When we are babies we learn to breathe properly, but as we grow we change and become shallow breathers that cause neck and back pains.
  • Dr. Kelli explains how breathing naturally through your diaphragm will help your muscles stretch, ligaments, and bones move to the positions they should be.
  • Being overweight can cause weakness in the abdomen and cause problems for your discs.
  • Chronic neck pain can be caused by not breathing properly because of the strain you are putting on your muscles.
  • Dr. Kelli will walk you through stretches that will help retrain yourself on how to breathe properly.
  • This is just as easy as thinking about it. Intension is the trigger.
  • Do this for 10 mins a day for 2 weeks and you will reboot your computer.
  • Once this becomes more comfortable you may notice you are able to breathe this way doing normal day to day living.
  • There is no good reason to not learn how to breathe right. It can even help with menstruation.

Episode Summary

Part of treating Lumbar pain is understanding how to support the natural curve of the lumbar spine. Dr. Kelli teaches us how to use the roller to support that curve that should be located in the lowest part of the lumbar spine.

ON THIS EPISODE, WE DISCUSS…

  • Continued work on lengthening ligaments.
  • Remember there is always something you can do to deal with your pain.
  • We will be dealing with lower back pain this episode.
  • Back pain is associated with other stressors.
  • Back pain is often caused by the way we sit, walk, move & stretch.
  • Curves do create stability so we will help you create the proper curve.
  • If you have had any back surgery you should NOT do this stretch.
  • If you have been diagnosed with stenosis you can do well with this stretch, but sometimes it can be too much so you might want to skip this stretch.
  • The more you extend (or leaning back), your disc problems will get better, less swollen.
  • Placement of the roller and the stretch that will help the lower back.
  • These stretches will also help relieve your intestines and abdominal area; it could even help with bowel movements.
  • You can see a video of this stretch on Kelli’s book website.
