My guest is Vanda Varga, the Tour Guide to Your Mind! Vanda is an accredited trainer and Master Practitioner of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), hypnotherapy and a Silva Method practitioner.
As a tour guide to your mind, Vanda can help you explore, uncover and re-map your map of the world.
I have recently been a student of Vanda's and what a fabulous experience it was. I took the NLP practitioner training course and am now an accredited NLP practitioner! đ
She's an amazingly engaging and supportive teacher. A credit to her knowledge and experience of her subject but also to her communication skills.
She explains in our conversation one of the presuppositions of NLP - there is no failure only feedback - i.e., we either succeed or learn! She explains how what we shine a light on is where our energy flows, so choose where you direct your attention!
It was an enlightening conversation that also touched on Vanda's experience with the Silva Mind Control Method as a child and how it shaped her map of the world.
We also discussed her amazing tool bag of NLP techniques including The Circle of Excellence and anchoring that help build confidence and diminish the anxiety of speaking in public. As well as how to overcome imposter thinking by speaking more positively to ourselves.

The one that should have been Jackie speaking about speaking with Vanda Varga but... đ±
I made a huge BOO BOO and got the day wrong!!
Apologies. So, I spoke about speaking with myself. I answered some questions that I'd asked myself but have answers that are relevant to anyone that needs to raise their confidence to speak to their audience. These include:
What can you learn from being on stage?
What happens when you work at the edge of your comfort zone?
How can learning to improvise help with confidence and creativity?
How can you connect with your audience?
How when you ask your 'tribe' what they think of you, you can uncover your Superpower and help your Personal Brand.Â
Plus, we waste so much time being who we think we 'should' be that we forget that we are enough just as we are.

For this episode, I spoke about speaking with Anna Bravington, marketing strategist and co-founder of Those That Dare.
Anna has 24 years of experience across digital and marketing and has worked on some crazy campaigns in partnership with brands like Microsoft and PlayStation whilst heading up digital marketing at GAME.
In 2022 she was named one of the NatWest Telegraph 100 Female Entrepreneurs to Watch.
Anna is a huge advocate for diversity in marketing and is investing in new ways of capturing diverse voices.
Most recently Anna has joined 36 authors, from 10 countries, to collaborate on a Mark Schaefer project and write the first book ever created entirely by a Web3 community entitled, The Most Amazing Marketing Book Ever. In her chapter, Anna discusses Experiential marketing. She reads her own chapter and tells me how reading your own words is harder than it looks.
Anna is also a speaker. She has presented at, among others at Brighton SEO and the You Are the Media Creator Day. She is multi-faceted and multi-talented.
Among the questions, I asked Anna was what advice would she give to an introvert, i.e., somebody that's quite shy but knows they need to get out there and promote themselves by speaking in public?
Her answer was to start where you feel comfortable and with an audience that will encourage and support you and also give you constructive (not destructive) feedback.
And I agree. Take baby steps! Start small and start with an audience that loves and supports you.
For Anna and myself that audience is the You Are The Media community, but for you, it might be a group, or online community you belong to, family or even your other half (an audience of 1 is still an audience).
Anna also tells me how you can successfully market Christmas dinner in a tin! Be daring with your marketing, she says.
She is a lover of data and says by using SEO correctly she can get CEOs excited about the metrics.

We met through the Digital Women network (Yes, Digital WOMEN!) and I heard him speak at Failed Nights, part of the You Are the Media Creator Day event, where he shared his winding and often amusing career journey, proving that there are no failures only feedback.

In this episode of Speaking About Speaking, I spoke with Master Practitioner in Mindful Eating, author of Boosting Breakfasts, podcaster, online course creator and speaker, Lori Weber.
As well as running the Mindful Eating Clinic, Lori, founded Perfect Pitch in October 2003 and works with leading associate companies in the training and development arenas.
Her dual background in performing arts & a number of business roles has equipped her with the skills and creativity to get the best out of people.
This was an interesting conversation!
We discussed how a good speaker knows how to use pitch, pace and pause and how beneficial it is to anyone who needs to speak for their work to bite the bullet and attend a drama class. As I always say, actors' training is fundamental to confident communication, self-awareness and life in general!
Plus, how you can amplify yourself to elevate your business and how you become a great podcast guest.

I have followed Lucy since I was recommended and bought her Confidence on Camera digital course back at the beginning of the lockdown (as did thousands of others).
I took on her challenges and tuned into her 'how to create a course' webinars, filmed in her spare room once her son was in bed and whilst wearing some very comical hats!
I've been inspired by her journey and success and am SO chuffed that she took the time to speak to me. đđŒ
Lucy helps people to live more, and work less. Her courses including Confidence on Camera have sold over 50,000 to date. She helps turn knowledge and experience into memberships and digital courses. She writes and talks about how to create passive income so that you can spend more time with those you love, doing what you love.
As a former TV journalist, she spent years working in Asia and the Middle East. In our extraordinary conversation, she tells me what it was like to be a woman in a war zone, reporting from the likes of Ukraine and Myanmar.
We also chat about life as an Airbnb host, a life and business coach and the creator of the highly successful Confidence on Camera online course.
She shares some truly amazing stories with me for the podcast but also more widely to her social media community.

This is an interesting conversation for any introvert who needs to sell stuff!

With me for this previous LIVE stream is Speaker, LinkedIn guru and founder of Much MoreSocial, Ella Orr.
Ella, a former teacher of 30 years, retrained as a social media marketer and personal brand specialist.
As part of her own personal brand journey, she decided to share her experience, knowledge and story by creating (with a little bit of help from me) a Signature Talk. And since first stepping on a stage a year ago hasn't looked back, speaking to audiences online and in person.

Speaking About Speaking (S.A.S.) is a weekly opportunity for me and another fabulous speaker or speaker coach to discuss all things speaking.
Except for this previously LIVE episode, it was just ME, Jackie Goddard.
I decided that at the end of every 6-week block of LIVES, I would take over the 30-minute slot to answer questions from anyone out there that would like like to know my take on speakers, speaking, how to prep and how to perform.
This was my first solo performance. đ± Â It was totally interactive and so there were questions like: How do you cope with nerves when talking to strangers at networking or in a social situation, and how do you deal with interruptions during a presentation?
All fabulous questions but in true Blue Peter style I had a list of my top 10 tips on how to build your public speaking confidence that I'd prepared earlier!Â

MMS founder, Patrick Melville uses his experience to help companies and individuals with their marketing and mental health.
He has a passion to take away mental health stigma and help others avoid burnout caused by work and personal trauma.
We discussed how he approaches uncomfortable subjects in his talks and presentations and how sharing through speaking and storytelling can relieve stress and give new perspectives to difficult conversations.

Speaking About Speaking (S.A.S.) is a weekly opportunity for me and another fabulous speaker or speaker coach to discuss all things speaking.
In this previously LIVE episode, I will be speaking about speaking with guest communication skills trainer & business storyteller, Andrew Thorp.
Andrew works with leaders and other professionals to help them communicate in a more effective way, whether on a stage or in normal conversation.
We discuss how you can influence, impact and inspire your audience.
Bring along your question and interact!
My guest for this episode calls herself a Creativity Doula. It describes what Hollis Citron does beautifully.
But what is a Creativity Doula?
Listen to the episode to find out, of course, but in a nutshell, Hollis helps her clients 'birth' their creativity. She gives them permission and support to express themselves creatively.
A former art teacher, turned coach, multi-book author, publisher and host of the Creative Conversations podcast, she is on a mission to make creativity accessible to everyone and is passionate about helping people build the confidence to recognise, encourage, and express the innate creativity that they are born with. And she believes as do I that Creativity goes beyond the pencil and the brush.
There is SO much synergy between Hollis and me that our conversation was a joy. We cover all things creative (obviously) but we also talked about parenting, labels, sharing stories and finding your voice.
And her definition of Creativity is profound!

My guest is an online course mentor and former BBC comedy writer, Glen Long.
Currently, Glen is an online course mentor, helping individuals and small teams to create effective and engaging courses, cutting through the hype that surrounds online courses.
Before that, he was the "Course Creation Guy" for a 7-Figure Entrepreneur creating courses that generated over $1 million in revenue and served 1,000+ paying students.
And before that, he was a Writer, Editor and Producer for BBC Comedy Online and worked with new writers and performers to create viral comedy videos.
We had a fabulous conversation about his very interesting career to date. Talk about the career ladder as a jungle gym! Glen's path has not been a straight line.
We start with the Footlights at Cambridge University, and his (our) experiences at the Edinburgh Fringe (we both performed at the Bedlam Theatre there).
Then how he pitched comedy ideas (good and bad!) to the BBC, with some success.

Mark England is a TEDx Speaker and Co-founder and Head Coach of Enlifted. He has been researching, coaching and presenting on the power of language and identity for the past 15 years.
Believe me when I say this was a fascinating conversation!
Mark is a language expert and we discuss how the words used can define us and how we influence others. He shows me how, with subtle changes in the way we speak, we can transform our lives and relationships.
We also, discuss victim mentality, imposter syndrome and the pillars of architect language - projection, negation and soft talk.
Plus, Mark explains the actual meaning of those magic words Abracadabra and Spell, and how we should for the sake of our own well-being stop hoarding our stories.
In Markâs TEDx talk, he addresses the power of words as a tool for change in perception and he describes his own penny-drop moment.

Speaking About Speaking (S.A.S.) is a weekly opportunity for me and another fabulous speaker or speaker coach to discuss all things speaking. In this previously LIVE episode, Trisha Lewis and I will be speaking about speaking.
We both started as actors before moving into the communication and speaker coaching field, so there's a lot to talk about.
Communication and confidence coach, Trisha, has written a book about self-squashing, which we are all guilty of, and recently did a TEDx talk on the subject.
To find out more about Trisha go to her website at https://www.trishalewis.com

I'm LIVE with voice coach and former TV and radio personality, Susan Murphy.
Susan's spent the majority of her 40-year career on-air. Starting as a shadow traffic reporter and programme director in Philadelphia she then moved to New York and became a radio personality before hosting and producing PBS television fundraising drives, crossing paths with our very own Charlotte Church.
She once even rode an elephant through New York. She's been a voice-over artist for commercials, TV, websites and E-learning but her heart has always been in teaching and so having set up her company VOSOT (Voice Over Sound on Tape) she now 'polishes the on-air sound of anchors and reporters.'

My first guest for the live stream of Speaking About Speaking was the WORLDâS BEST speaker, (in my opinion!) the amazing, Tom Morris!
Tom is not only the worldâs best keynote speaker having spoken over 1200 times, but heâs also known as Americaâs philosopher and has written 30 fiction and non-fiction books.
The man is a legend - think Gandalf, Dumbledore and Yoda all rolled into one! Whether you are interested in public speaking, philosophy, or storytelling (he tells fabulous stories!), you wonât want to miss this.
We discuss imposter syndrome, and how to turn public speaking anxiety into excitement. We touch on the philosophy of speaking and learning. And Tom also gives me his definition of charisma
Plus, I ask him what makes a great speaker great and a bad one suck?
If you'd like to watch the reply of the LIVE episode you can find it on the Power To Speak YouTube channel. This link will take you directly to the episode: https://youtu.be/2U_Jr0HODhA

Brand Consultant and Digital Marketer, the 'Frank' part of frankandmarci.com, and Rise Above the Blah founder, Frank Prendergast is a creative Irishman, artist and actor who talks about personal brand and storytelling.
He is the perfect guest for me!
He says, 'Nothing in my long and winding path has turned out to be futile. These days, I utilise all the different aspects of my creativity in my work as a designer and actor.
'With his wife Marci, they are FrankandMarci.com, a brand strategist and brand storyteller, and an award-winning digital marketing team. They help solopreneurs rise above the blah and develop unforgettable personal brands by creating human-sounding content that grows connection and community.
In our conversation, we discuss all of the above of course but we really dig deep into the benefit of having a personal brand and, how it crosses over with acting. Renowned acting coach Sanford Meisner said acting is 'living truthfully under imaginary circumstances.' Frank says showing up online with your personal brand is, 'living truthfully under digital circumstances.'

She retrained in social media marketing following a long career as a teacher, so has accumulated a wealth of knowledge and experience on her five-year journey from educator to business owner.
Ella also runs training workshops and masterclasses and works as a speaker and presenter to support professional development. My guest is speaker, coach, and founder of MasterTalk, Brenden Kumarasamy.
Canadian, Brenden has been coaching since he was 19! Now 27, heâs an experienced and expert communication coach. He started by coaching his fellow business students and learnt his craft by teaching others.
His YouTube channel has nearly 29K subscribers and is jam-packed with valuable free resources on how to communicate confidently and effectively. He says, 'A wise friend once told me that I couldnât possibly coach every human being on Earth with the limited time I had in my life, so I needed to go on video to share my message with the world. I got over my fear, and practised 100âs of times on camera until I was finally able to say that I was âYouTube Readyâ. His is a story of trial and error, hard work and help from supportive family and mentors.
As well as his own inspiring story we discuss imposter syndrome, what an expert is, and how to manage your fear when sharing your message.
There are also some fabulous communication tips, techniques, and memorable quotes in our 45-minute conversation, including this one from Zig Ziglar,

She hosts The Premise of Purpose Podcast, a show where entrepreneurs and other leaders are interviewed on how they found their purpose and continue to live it every day.
She also leads 1:1 and group coaching for aspiring entrepreneurs who want to find their power and make a difference in the world. Anna believes that everyone has their own unique magic that originates from them, and she is on a mission to help others discover that within themselves.

Ben Albert is the founder and CEO of Balbert marketing and the founder, host and producer of the Real Business Connections podcast.
When Covid hit in March 2020 Ben was a sales executive bobbing along quite nicely in his hometown of Rochester, New York. Within a month he was unemployed and in his own words âlostâ. Â
He was in a dark place, taking comfort in a bottle of whiskey. Did he say did he stay there and wallow in self-pity? Hell, no!
He re-launched the Rochester Groovecast podcast. He started the Everything Balbert blog. He taught a podcast in class at Rochester prep high school and became a marketing consultant. He launched Rochester Business Connections. And thereâs more ...
Over the last 2 years, he has been fortunate enough to work professionally with over 40 businesses, built multiple B2B partnerships and helped numerous brands. He's spoken on countless podcasts and networked with new friends that he hopes to support for the rest of his life.
Wow! See what happens when you put the bottle down and put your mind to something. As you would imagine, our conversation is jam-packed and full of advice and wise words. From stacking your skills to amplifying the underdog to leaning into vulnerability and what to do if you're too short to play basketball.

My guest is voice-over artist, Santa Claus extraordinaire and all-round creative being, Richard Crossman
Richard is Canadian-born but of British heritage. It's the reason he is so adept at its regional accents, particularly English RP (received pronunciation), beloved by BBC broadcasters of the 50s. Currently, he is a voice-over artist working from his home studio and due to his not-so-passing resemblance to a particular jolly gentleman in red he works extensively, virtually and in-person, bringing Christmas joy globally.
Richard has been performing since the age of three and first dressed as Santa at the age of seven.
He's had a fascinating journey. Not only is he an accomplished voice-over artist narrating everything from audiobooks to medical papers but he's a trained opera singer and retired school professor, specialising in pastry arts and commercial baking.
Oh, and he makes theatrical costumes too. See, an all-round creative being.Â
Welcome to this special âbest of...â edition of Power To Speak, the podcast.
Unbelievably, the podcast is 2 years old. During that time, Iâve had the privilege to speak with creatives, business owners and thought leaders about the importance of creativity for their work and life, as well as their unique journeys.

Polymorph and wide boy is the way that Jason De Jonge describes himself.
According to Linkedin, Jason is a recruitment and outsourcing specialist, a public speaker and a manager of a team of e-commerce gurus. With this many job titles, he is, indeed, polymorphic. But 'wide boy'?Â
Well, he started his career on the family market stall selling souvenirs to tourists in London's West End, followed by a stint on a City trading floor before running a fashion retail business from a shop on Carnaby Street. Then clubs and bars, eventually ending up in recruitment via an aerospace company! See, polymorph and wide boy!
Plus, he is the director of Purple Fedora, where along with MD, Gareth Wax they help people convey their message online.
In our fascinating conversation, Jason takes me on the journey through all over the stages of his incredible career.
And what is his advice to young people just starting out - life is long. Enjoy it.

Trevor Young is a Strategist, Consultant and a Content Marketing & Communications coach. He's also an Author & Speaker, a Content Creator & Social Broadcaster.
He provides "up-to-the-minute communications strategies and astute guidance for forward-thinking individuals and businesses wanting to grow their influence and create more impact in the marketplace."
If you make content to promote your business you NEED to listen to my conversation with Trevor.
A 'country kid' from Australia and son of a bank manager, Trevor grew up in a bank next door to the local newspaper offices. He went to sleep to the sound of the printing press. No surprise then that he became a journalist before moving into the world of social media and content marketing.
Heâs been blogging since 2007 and has written 2 books, Micro Domination and Content Marketing for PR. He's also a personal brand mentor and guide (he's known as the PR Warrior), speaker, educator and content creator.
We talk about his growing up in Warracknabeal (yes, that's a real place!), his initial fear of public speaking (he did his first 50 talks for nothing), his love of writing, the benefit (and pitfalls) of self-publishing and how writing a book has opened doors to other opportunities.
On creating content, he says we should 'nail our colours to the mast!' What is it we want to be known for? We are our own media companies and should pick one platform, master it, and then move on to the next. He has some great advice on how to earn your audience and 'cut through the noise.'
And apart from all of the above we just about had time to discuss whenâs a good time to write the great Australian crime novel and his time on legendary Aussie soap, Neighbours!!
Seriously, there were SO many takeaways, from our conversation. Let me know your thoughts in the comments below. If you want to find out more about Trevor visit trevoryoung.me at: https://trevoryoung.me/category/reputation-revolution-podcast/

Caleb Nelson describes himself as Your Concierge to Happiness, Functional Spokesperson and Image Consultant. What does that mean? Well, put simply he has dedicated his life to inspiring others to live life to their fullest potential. His company (and podcast of the same name) Naked Sunday is the pursuit of all aspects of personal growth. Exploring all topics, ranging from health, love, spirituality, wealth, discovering your purpose, and beyond. He works with leaders and business owners to eliminate obstacles and shed self-limiting beliefs. He believes we need more great leaders in the world and helps the cause by facilitating the change. With Naked Sunday he hopes to âhold space for people to be truly honest and authentic, cultivate a greater connection within themselves and their relationships, and ultimately live a happy and fulfilling life.â During our fascinating conversation, we discuss how he does this, of course, but he also tells me how the pursuit for his own ânexus of happinessâ developed out of a childhood spent as part of the religious cult known as the âMooniesâ and how the prospect of an arranged marriage (like his parents) and lack of autonomy left him feeling like an outsider, with the need to give and receive unconditional love.
Check out the Naked Sunday podcast here.

Todayâs guest is author of Mental Theft, Paul Newton. Magician, mind reader, and former actor Paul, after a brush with the military, now talks about cyber security and cybercrime. As a much sort after keynote speaker, he scares the bejesus out of his audienceâs telling them,
âYou may have the best security systems in place, but I can hack the people in your organisation! Itâs not all about high tech, itâs about people. Theyâre either the weakest link or your strongest defence.â đ±
A family man and a people person, based in the New Forest, Hampshire, he started magic at the age of 7 having been given a Paul Daniels magic set. Paulâs career has been a mix of theatre and corporate making for a very interesting conversation.
There are some great presentation and speaker tips in there too. Like how you can step out from behind a script and why we have a fear of the unknown rather than a fear of speaking. Itâs insightful and entertaining stuff.

My guest this week is Growth Strategist, Kallum Nicholson.
Kallum (with a K) introduces himself as âthe unconventional business coach that puts a foot up your ass and wears you like slippers.â
Kallum helps SMEs and larger corporations grow to the next level.Â
And if that wasnât enough, he is a SUPER networker hosting both his own and others. Heâs also a magazine editor, keynote speaker, business show host and school governor.Â
And all this at the tender age of 26!
But as you will hear in our conversation Kallum has been an entrepreneur since he was at school. That is the school he is now a governor at, by the way.
Amongst many other things, Kallum tells me the best thing you can do for yourself, and your business is to learn the art of public speaking - and unsurprisingly I couldn't agree more!

My guest is self-confessed Creativity Evangelist, metal kid and Clash super fan, Jason Miller. He was the Senior Content Marketing Manager at LinkedIn and Senior Manager of Social Media Strategy at Marketo and Microsoft and is currently, the Marketing Director at CreativeX, Â
He is the best selling author of Welcome to the Funnel and runs RockNRollCocktail.com.
Jason is a global content marketing leader by day and a rock ânâ roll photographer by night. Starting out as an artist development rep at Sony Music, he became friends with some of the world's biggest bands. After his first disastrous photo shoot, he vowed to master the camera and is now a legit photographer!!
I first met Jason at an online You Are The Media lunch club where he is often called on to share his extensive content marketing knowledge with the crowd. However, it was Jason's interest in the subject of creativity that struck a chord with me.
In our fun and fascinating conversation, Jason and I discuss how a heavy metal kid became the senior content marketing manager at Linkedin. Plus, Intelligent risk, photography, music and of course creativity and improvisation.

âWhat I've learned is that when you have a clear vision of what kind of company you want to be and the value it offers; the confidence to market it, defend it and sell it, follows.â
This is a quote from MY business coach and guest, Christophe Stourton, and I couldnât agree more. Christophe, founder of DEADLINOLOGYÂź, is a big believer in small creative businesses and aims his coaching specifically at âmicro-businesses (i.e., those with 10 people or less). He gives them 'commercial confidence', which he's very good at. I know because thatâs what he has done for me.
Having worked in event creation and dabbled in the film industry, he has a creative background himself and says he became a business coach to âwitness creative people build businesses they can bank on.â
No surprise then that our conversation covers creativity and how to value and use it in your business.

Early in 2021 you will have seen Jill in Russell T Davies award-winning TV series, It's A Sin. Spookily, playing her own mother!
Russell (a childhood friend) used Jill's experiences living in a flat with gay friends in 80's London as inspiration for the show.
Jill's activism, on behalf of those suffering from HIV and AIDS, plus the care, dedication and support she gave to her friends led to the creation of the hashtag, Be more Jill which trended online after each episode.
So have a listen to this sneak peek and watch our full fascinating conversation using the exclusive link below.

My guest is local businessman and Southbourne legend, Gordon Fong.
Apologies in advance for the sound quality and background noise. WE recorded huddled in a corner of the downstairs bar having been evacuated after a power cut from our original venue and following Gordons presentation at the You Are The Media Christmas extravaganza. We chatted whilst everyone else was enjoying the âafter showâ festivities. Hopefully it won't distract too much from my fabulous conversation with Gordon.
We discussed, amongst other things, finding your tribe and the importance of community in business and at home. Gordon also talked about the confidence the YATM community has given him to step from the back of the room to the front and how international speaker and author, Mark Schaffer, inspired him to be Gordon Fong!
We are all in the persuasion business.
Or so says my guest for this episode, Andrew Thorp. He's a Ted Talk speaker and trainer in the applied story telling arena. âApplied story telling?â I hear you ask. Yes. That means itâs storytelling applied to business not storytelling for entertaining your kids or mates down the pub. Storytelling for businesspeople who need to be heard, get their message across, and be liked. Andrew shows them how to use stories to be persuasive. He likens it to a soft form of sales training. Fascinating. He also calls himself The Multi Story man due to his endless library of stories (not parked cars). There are many similarities between what Andrew, and I do and so this felt like more of a conversation than an interview, but we did manage to touch on his golfing career, excruciating experience as a quiz show contestant and misunderstanding with a dragon!

She works with service-based businesses to turn their lukewarm offers into sizzling hot must-haves. Janine is known on social media for her colourful, humorous and unashamedly positive videos and posts. She tells me how some misogynistic feedback to a colleague led to her dressing up in twin set and pearls for her first tongue in cheek video. However, despite the fun and frivolity, there are many words of wisdom from Janine as we discuss âwantsâ vs âneedsâ, finding your brand voice and clarity in what you are selling. Enjoy!

Lois is the founder of Bee Loud Words and delivers workshops for kids on how to live well, be healthy and happy. She describes herself as a bouncy Tigger! You'll find out why when you listen, but maybe that should be 'bounce back Tigger! Lois has been on quite a journey in her life. As a child, she bounced from vicarage to vicarage with her family before becoming an Engish teacher eventually head of the department. She married a headmaster and had two sons. However, at the age of 49 and for the sake of her mental health she knew things had to change, she divorced and started the business. Her aim is to pass on to as many young people as possible the life hacks she's learnt along the way, to improve their resilience, mental health and playfulness. I also learn how being a Vicars daughter is great for business networking (who knew?) and how we all have transferrable skills we can bring from one career to the next, no matter how different those careers may be. Plus, I learn how you can make literature come to life by using a cracking German accent! Enjoy!

In this episode I talk to the founder of You Are The Media, author of The Content Revolution and all-around marketing legend, Mark Masters.
With You Are the media, Mark has built a valuable b2b networking and learning community. In lockdown the community transferred online and is now connecting with people from all over the world. Inviting exciting and inspirational speakers to join in the fun and share their wisdom.Â
Now as we emerge, ever the showman, Mark is pioneering a hybrid version of the event enabling both an in-person and on-screen audience to be educated and entertained!
In our conversation, Mark tells me why you should build your space before you need it, why it pays to give stuff away for free (except cupcakes!) and what made him do stand-up comedy.Â
Emily is Head of Client Services at Burlington Media Group, a market-leading niche b2b publishing, media and events company for the legal market. Sound intriguing? It is... Emily has used her classical music training and all that she learnt from travelling the world with Rockschool Ltd to help her clients in the legal world network, connect and innovate. In amongst all of this, we discuss improvisation, meditation, communication and vulnerability. Gigging and pigs testicles!! What more could you ask for... Enjoy.
Wow! What a conversation. I loved listening to musical director, conductor and Westender, Jae Alexander, talking about his amazing career. I don't think there's been a musical either in the West End on or on Broadway in the last 40 years that Jae has not worked on â Catâs, Crazy For You, Follies, Beauty and the Beast, Oliver! SO much to talk about. From humble beginnings in Port Talbot to conducting The Queen's Diamond Jubilee Concert, he's work with many of the greats of musical theatre from Jerome Robbins to Leonard Bernstein. From Eartha Kitt to Carol Channing. As well as homegrown national treasures, Lulu and Bonnie Langford. We discuss all of the above, of course, but we also discuss his best friend and fellow Westender, Jill Nalder, the subject of the brilliant TV series, Itâs A Sin. They became flatmates together in the âPink Palaceâ of the series and still share a house now, 40 years later! The series was written by their long-time friend and fellow Welshman, Russell T Davis. P.S. he also worked with my sister when she was a pink coiffed, Fantasy Banker, in Crazy For You! If you like musical theatre, you wonât want to miss this. If you like music, youâll love this. If youâre neither â shame on you!
Rina Lang is a creative entrepreneurship coach. She helps people move from their corporate jobs into creative self-employment. A fascinating area of work dealing with our limiting beliefs around our own creativity and the expectations and pushback we get from those we love when we try to unleash it. Rina is a German now living in Mexico, her 8th country of residence! She is in the process of writing a children's book and has a bucket list of a 1000!!
In this episode I talk with THE Optimistic Cellist, Ollie Mansfield. Ollie is a performer, musician and teacher who, in lockdown, has organised and performed live stream concerts through a group he set up called Front Room Concerts, helping friends and colleagues to perform and earn online. Ollie has used the enforced isolation to learn new skills around audience building,, digital marketing and content writing and he's not going back ...well not totally! In our fascinating conversation we discuss creativity, networking, the inner critic and of course, orchestra's. Enjoy.... Oh, and BTW... hang out until the end to hear Ollie play, especially for us!
In this episode I am lucky enough to talk with Hollywood screenwriter and dramatist, Charles Edward Pogue. Charles screenplay's include The Fly and Dragonheart. He has also written several Sherlock Holmes film's including Hound of the Baskervilles. And as if that wasn't enough he also adapts and writes plays, is a lecturer, speaker and advocate for writers creative rights. He chats to me from his home in Kentucky about how it all started. About being an actor and then writer and his love of Tarzan and books. Enjoy!
Georgina Ash, of Grub Productions, creates video for small business's and is founder of Grub Productions. Surprisingly, she started life as a 'wannabe' scientist, studying anthropology and primatology. So how did she get from that to working with video? Well, that's a story - not so much a career ladder but more a jungle gym. Such an interesting journey. And as so much of our business is done online and in front of a camera now that there was sooo much else to talk about regarding video production. Here are just a few take aways: * Done is better than perfect. * Explore your phone's capability. * If you don't like being in front of the camera, get behind it. * Get used to creating. * Practice, practice, practice.
In this episode I'm talking to professor of philosophy, keynote speaker and author of 30, yes, 30 books, Tom Morris. In our conversation America's philosopher shares his secret to life, his philosophy of success and how the adventure he's on now is preparing him for the next. So many wise words. We talk about philosophy, obviously, but so much more including Harry Potter and the... no not the Philosophers Stone, but the philosophical wisdom within JK Rowlings books. Tom has read the whole series six times and written his own book, If Harry Potter Ran General Electric!
Geoff Cottrill has been described as the 'Master Marketer' as well as the 'Former head of marketing for the world!' All for good reason - Geoff has headed up marketing for Coca Cola, Converse and Starbucks. But his talents don't end there - he's worked with likes of Paul McCartney, James Taylor and Pharrell, is on the board of advisors for Giving Kitchen, has recently co-founded a magazine called Marvin and owns 300 pairs of sneakers. He's been a busy guy! Just have a listen. Interesting, inspiring and insightful.

You'll find out why in our fascinating conversation. Plus, we discuss how creative flow is energising, how loving your work too much can lead to burnout, why we should find a better word for procrastination and why it's a good idea to enter a street dance competition at 49! A fabulous and fascinating conversation!

What is your definition of creativity? Can you be creative in business? How do you transition from theatre to interior design? My guest, Samantha F. Crockett Crockett of Harris Jackson' has all of the answers. We had a fabulous and fun discussion covering all of the above, plus lockdown madness and home schooling.
