Today's episode is one that's close to my heart because it's about something I've struggled with – feeling invisible. I want to share my journey with you, from doubting myself to finally realizing that I deserve recognition. Let's talk about how I did it and how you can too.

Episode Highlights:

  • My Journey: Doubts and Triumphs: So, picture this – I got nominated for an award, and my first reaction was, "Me? Are they sure?" But you know what? I ended up winning second place in my category. It was a rollercoaster of self-discovery and resilience, and I want to share every twist and turn with you.
  • What I Noticed: Along the way, I couldn't help but notice how other women promoted themselves. Some were loud and proud, while others were more subtle. I took notes, learned a few tricks, and I'm ready to spill the beans.
  • Beating Impostor Syndrome: Let's talk about impostor syndrome – that feeling of not being good enough. Yeah, I've been there too. But guess what? It's not a disease; it's just a moment of growth. I'll tell you how I stopped letting it hold me back, and how you can do the same.
  • Our cultural and social nuances: I talked about all those messages that from very early age we get about how we should behave: humble, quiet and "lady like" that takes us to as adult feeling that we don't deserve talk about our successes

Actionable Insights:

  1. You're Worth It: Seriously, you are. Whether you're up for an award or just trying to get noticed at work, remember that you deserve recognition. Don't let anyone – including yourself – tell you otherwise.
  2. Be You, Be Bold: Self-promotion doesn't have to be sleazy. Find your own style and own it. Whether you're shouting from the rooftops or making subtle moves, just be authentically you.
  3. Embrace the Journey: Feeling like an impostor is part of the journey, not the destination. Embrace it, learn from it, and keep moving forward. You've got this.

The best way to make a name for yourself professionally is through networking, and you know I always want to help you grow. For this reason, today, I will teach you how to do networking in just 15 minutes.

Networking helps entrepreneurs, businessmen, and workers to build professional networks and connects people with similar interests to obtain better professional opportunities.

If you want to know how to do it, listen to this episode cause I'll share eight tips to help you do it successfully.

HIGHLIGHTS EPISODE[2:48] 1) Be open-minded.
It is the first step and the most important because it starts everything. Be open to what you can learn from others cause you never know how that knowledge can benefit you in the future.

[4:06] 2) Smile.
Smile.. with your eyes. Smiling with your eyes is super important because it gives the other person the impression that you are open to communicating with them.

[5:32] 3) Listen.
Be attentive to the information the person in front of you is sharing because it is the only way to know if their interests are aligned with ours.

[7:00] 4) Be present.
Don't get distracted by your phone because it can give the impression that you really don't care what they're saying. Paying attention will let others know that you are willing to create a connection with them.

[8:10] 5) Follow up.
Once you get a contact, keep in touch with them outside of the event or on social media, this will help create a stronger bond.

[10:14] 6) Be authentic.
You don't need to transform yourself into something you are not just to prove that you're capable of something. Be yourself. If you try to be someone else, others will notice, believe me, and that's not good for your image.

[11:37] 7) Be visible.
Do not hide behind others, and do not be afraid to speak, that will not help you get more contacts.

[13:48] 8) Be aware.
If you are aware of the things around you, you will be able to identify opportunities faster.

QUOTES

  • "Smiling with your eyes is super important because it gives the other person the impression that you're open to having a conversation."
  • "You don't need to pretend to be anyone else in the world, you just need to be yourself."

What is failure for you?

We all have different opinions of what failure is, and this opinion reflects our mentality and position before adversity.

Although failure is a result contrary to success, what if I told you that failure is necessary to be successful? Hard to believe, right?

As Oprah Winfrey says: "Failure is another stepping stone to greatness."

The more we fail, the more tools we have to improve, to continue climbing to success. The important thing is to learn from our mistakes and keep working on what we want to achieve.

In this episode, I want us to talk about failure and learn how to improve our relationship with it. I invite you to listen to it, and I hope it will be helpful for you.

EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS
[1:00] How do you see failure?
The way we see failure will determine our success. Think about how many times you have seen others fail, even yourself. Knowing your position before a failure will help you have a better relationship with it.

[9:43] What is failure?
As I said, we all have different points of view about it, but for me, failure is about acquiring experience and the necessary tools to achieve what I set out to do. What is failure for you?
[13:45] Failure and the comfort zone.
It is normal to aspire to a better job position or want to have a business on our own, but we do nothing for fear of leaving our comfort zone. I know that leaving our comfort zone does not guarantee success, but if we do not try, we will never know.

[18:50] What to do when we feel that we have failed?
1) Think about why you are feeling like that.
2) Think about where that thought comes from and if it is true.
3) Think that you can learn from that experience.
4) Be kind to yourself.

QUOTES

  • We cannot change what happened in the past, but you are able to change what you get from that experience and use it to your benefit. — Patricia
  • Success without failure is not success. — Patricia.

It is very important to make amends with our inner critic and learn to only listen to it when it wants to warn us of danger since many times, it can destroy our self-esteem, willpower, stress, or depress us. It is not an easy task, but we can do it.

[14:20] Third step: Mastering your branding.
This is one of the most important steps to level up your career. I know that we hate bragging or talking about ourselves, but it is our best marketing strategy so that others know who we are and what we are capable of. If we don't do it, we will be invisible and we will never be considered for a promotion.

[18:56] Fourth step: Have a clear vision of your future.
Close your eyes and think for a moment about how you want to see yourself in 5 years, and start working on it.

[23:01] Fifth step: Create your math together.
This is the last step to level up your career and it has to do with improving ourselves. Learn more things. Take courses that complement your work. There is always something we have to improve, so start thinking about what it is and take action to achieve it.

Why do some women have way more male friends?

Maybe it's something you've ever thought about in your life, or maybe not, but this question can help us understand the evolution of our thoughts and personality through the years.

Human beings need to socialize to survive. Commonly in our attempt to socialize, we seek to relate to people who have a way of thinking similar to ours, make us feel comfortable, or are fun to be with them.

In childhood or teenage years, it is very common to see competition between women, jealousy, or gossip, and some women do not want to be part of that type of environment, choosing to be around men, even if we do not share similar tastes cause we feel comfortable and free—let's be honest, men are easier than women.

The truth is that there are many reasons, and I would love to continue talking with you about them. Please listen to the episode and share some time with me. Grab a cup of coffee or a glass of wine, whatever you want, and let's dive into this subject.

Don't forget to tell me your experience in the comments. I can't wait to read about your experiences and thoughts.

EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS

[1:00] Why do some women have more male friends? Because of competition between women.
I don't know if it's a cultural thing, but, in my experience, as a teenager, I lived this, which is why, many times, I didn't feel comfortable around female friends. Gossip, and comments about how I looked or how I dressed, made me feel totally insecure about myself, and this is one of the reasons why I started to have more male friends without realizing it.

[8:28] Why do some women have way more male friends? Because we feel more comfortable.
This topic is totally linked to the previous one. When we feel judged, criticized, or in an environment that we do not feel comfortable with, we seek a comfortable environment.
Men are much simpler in their way of thinking, acting, etc. It is rare to feel judged among them.

[17:40] Why do some women have way more male friends? Maybe because we fit better.
All human beings are different, and there are groups in which we are going to fit in or simply not. Obviously, we are not totally designed to fit in with men, some women feel more comfortable in a group full of women, but the more we understand who we are, how we think, and what we want, we can understand where we fit better.

QUOTES
“When you're feeling that you're not fitting in, maybe that problem of connection is not because of them, it may be because of you” — Patricia.

After becoming a mum, everything changes inside and outside, our mentality, body, priorities, etc. We have to start rediscovering who we are.

We are so used to living our lives as single individuals that when our children come into the world, we begin to walk a totally new and unknown path, so it is normal for us to feel lost.

In this episode, I want to help you find yourself again, find the new version of you that is even better than the old one, and help you polish it.

Grab a piece of paper and take notes. Let's start this episode and self-discovery journey together.

The day is 24 hours, however, between our work and personal routine, we only have a few hours a day for our enjoyment.

No matter how hard we work, we always have a task left out. It can be due to a lack of organization, an emergency that happened, or because we decided to prioritize more important tasks.

In this solo episode, I will teach you how prioritizing your tasks can help you have a more productive day and not feel guilty for not doing all the tasks in your schedule.

Grab your calendar, take notes and start applying these 10 tips I have for you. Trust me, it's worth it.

Let's get started.

EPISODES HIGHLIGHTS
[1:00] Start prioritizing.
Knowing how to prioritize is simple, but not everything is about prioritizing work. Learn to prioritize the things that will make us feel we had a full and productive day.

[8:20] Use a physical calendar.
Call me old school if you want, but nothing is better than a physical calendar. Having a physical calendar will allow us to easily identify the available time we have during the week.

[12:55] Create a morning routine.
This is the best thing we can do to activate our brains and make us aware of what comes in the day.

[15:46] List three things you want to prioritize.
Make a list of things you must do during the day, starting with the most important. Don't be shy, it can be more than 3.

[17:55] Be ok with the stuff you can't do.
When we do not manage to accomplish all the tasks we want in the day, it is normal to feel frustrated or guilty. However, it is not good for our mental health to have those feelings. Remember, you're doing your best.

[20:51] Outsource your tasks.
Whether it's hiring help to clean your home or someone to help you organize your company, outsourcing your task is a good idea, it will give you many extra hours during the day to carry out other activities.

[23:53] Plan the night before.
It is not just organization, it is also planning. Remember that planning takes time, so it is important to do it the night before so you take advantage of the hours of the next day.

[25:17] Find a support system.
Not everything is physical support, emotional support is also important. Find someone who gives you words of encouragement and helps you make decisions.

[32:02] Taking care of your health is essential.
You would think that taking care of your health has nothing to do with productivity, but if you are not healthy, you can't do much.

[34:41] Learn when to stop.
For the eagerness to finish things, we can end up getting sick. When your body or mind can't continue, take a break.

QUOTE

  • It's better to get it done than never done.
  • If you are not healthy, you can't do much.

What are you afraid of?

What are you hiding from?

As adults and when we are afraid, we can no longer run and hide behind our parents. Therefore we hide behind our excuses, university degrees, etc.

Sometimes we think that we need to have or do hundreds of things in order to achieve something when the reality is that we just have to take action and keep moving towards reaching our dreams and goals.

In this solo episode I want to talk to you about hiding yourself. About those strategies and excuses we use to hide out of fear that prevent us from achieving something better for ourselves and our future.

Find out what keeps you away from your dreams and how to stop it.

EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS

[3:20] This before that.

A common mistake is believing that we need something first to achieve something else. Huge mistake! To achieve what you want, start with the minimum requirement and build the rest along the way.

[6:32] Stop designing on the whiteboard.

Second mistake. When we have an idea, we spend months developing it and fantasizing about the final result believing that we are working on it. In reality, what we do is get further away from its materialization.

[8:56] Overcomplicating us.

You must know that perfection does not exist, and when you look for it many times, what you do is waste your time. Perfection is not necessary for things to go well for us. Sometimes, the lack of it can bring pleasant surprises.

[12:30] Collect others' ideas.

I know that we believe that other people's opinions are important to improve what we want to offer our public, but not all ideas are good and can end up diluting yours. Think very well about which ones to take and which to discard.

[14:24] Omitting your story.

This strategy is the worst. When you hide your history, you hide who you are and how you got to where you are now. You put aside your achievements and forget how special you are. Embrace your story and share it with the world. People love it.

[17:24] I need a degree.

The lack of education did not stop anyone from achieving great things, just take a look at the history of the world's greatest millionaires. Stop making excuses, and go for it!

[27:16] 4 Questions that will help you achieve your goals.

1) What has kept me detained?

2) How is it showing in my life right now?

3) How can I approach things differently?

4) What actions should I take?

QUOTES

  • “Whatever happened in your personal life made you who you are.”
  • “Improving each element of creation before putting it out there in the world is not going to help you.”

Free yourself from criticism and praise.

Criticism is everywhere. You can receive it from anyone, even yourself. However, the opposite happens with praise. Sometimes they are so scarce that there are people who do whatever it takes to receive one.

What is true is that each one has an effect on us. If we can't understand criticism, it can destroy our self-esteem in seconds. On the other hand, with praise, we can depend on it and seek acceptance in everything we do, to the point that if we do not receive it, we get depressed.

In this solo episode, I will guide you on how to free yourself from criticism and praise and start being yourself.

Press play!

EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS

[2:30] Ask yourself how many times you have felt criticized by your inner circle.

The first critics we receive in our life are from our family and friends. Although they say it from a place of love, it can hurt. Here's when a negative relationship with criticism begins.

[4:50] Why do we care so much about other people's opinions?

Well, one of the problems that most people have, including me, is that we want to be likable to others, so we prioritize their opinions over ours to establish a better relationship with them.

[6:17] Can our country of birth influence our way of thinking?

Yes. For example, in Venezuela, I grew up in a society that is too critical about how we look, behave, etc. So this led me to always worry about others' opinions and even, at one point, seek praise from others.

HOW TO BREAK FREE FROM CRITICISM AND PRAISE

[9:38] Understand what feedback is about.

First, you should know that feedback does not talk about you but about the person giving it; only take it if it comes from people who have some knowledge of the subject.

[12:34] Turn criticism into useful information.

The only thing we can take from critics is information. So listen to what they have to say, take the good, and toss the bad.

[15:50] Ask yourself what your inner wisdom would do.

Do not rush to follow the advice of others. Take some time to analyze your decisions, not because others say it suits you.

[17:06] Understand that criticism works as a mirror

When a critic hurts more than it should, it's because the person who said it exposed something we believe about ourselves. If it is true, take that criticism and use it to improve.

[23:03] Train yourself to dismiss harmful feedback.

How? Well, ask yourself if what they say about you is important or if it can positively change your life. Otherwise, get rid of it.

[24:41] Advantages and disadvantages of praise.

Receiving praise is a sign that we are doing great. However, being driven by it is not okay.

[26:11] Keep it away from affecting you.

Criticisms are just words, what matters is what you believe about yourself.

QUOTES

  • "Criticism is a mirror of what we believe about ourselves."

Hey, if you're listening to this episode, congratulations on landing that job interview! If you haven't yet, congratulations on preparing ahead of time!

After sending your CV, now comes the hardest part: the job interview. However, the reality is that in a job interview, recruiters are not looking for perfection but rather uniqueness. For immigrants, it may be more laborious to get an interview since we must face a series of challenges where, in some cases, the language barrier is the greatest of them. Even the lack of self-esteem can take us away from submitting our resumes cause we think we are not good enough to be accepted.

You're good enough! Leave your fears behind because companies are looking for you.

For today's episode, we will be talking with Tiina Pereira, a Head Hunter who has found dozens of talents worldwide. With over 20 years of experience today, Tiina will share tips to make our interviews memorable and get the job we want, so take notes!

I hope you find this episode helpful. Wishing you the best in that job interview,

La Mantuana.

Don't let the diagnosis scare you—being parents of children within the autism spectrum can teach you many things and value others. Notwithstanding the diagnosis, our children are still those little ones we love so much since day one. Nothing has changed about them, only the perception of others towards them.

Being a neurodiverse family is just handling a family dynamic different from others. Children with autism are still human beings and can live their lives normally; they just see the world from a different perspective.

In this episode, we will be talking about autism without fear with our guest, Federika Tovar. A topic that I think is necessary to be spoken about to spread knowledge about it since its ignorance can lead to multiple misconceptions.

Today you will hear Federika's story and how her life changed positively after receiving the autism diagnosis of her two children. In addition, Federika will be talking about the different stages of grief that people experience after receiving an autism diagnosis and how to overcome them. Also, she will be giving a piece of advice to those parents starting this path.

Enjoy the episode!

EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS

[2:50] A Venezuelan nomad.

Getting to know Federika Tovar.

[9:41] From New York to Miami.

Our guest tells us her story of what it was like to have her children in the Big Apple city. Federika shares what it was like for her to "go with the flow" and end up in Miami, the beginning of new goals and successes.

[13:51] The first signs of autism.

Something that we must always keep in mind is that each autistic person is different. We should never compare our children with others. In this segment, Federika tells us how her speech delay led her to make the decision to take her daughter to a professional to be evaluated.

[27:27] Where did fearless Federika come from?

Our guest tells us how covid helped her leave her fears behind, change her life and move forward with her projects.

[37:35] Top tips for parents of autistic children.

1) Find family support.

2) Find therapeutic support.

3) Work on your patience.

4) Have a space for yourself.

[53:50] What lesson did you learn about being a mum of neurodiversity kids?

Federika tells us that being a mother of two children on the autism spectrum has taught her patience, empathy, inclusion, and the ability to adapt.

QUOTES

  • "Find the beauty and fun in the little things." —Federika
  • "We need to be a bridge and fight for inclusion." —Patricia.

ABOUT FEDERIKA TOVAR

Federika Tovar mourned the expectation of idealized motherhood after the arrival of the Autism diagnosis for both of her children. For many years, she felt isolated and misunderstood. Only with the radical acceptance of her new reality did she decide to launch her podcast "Autism Without Fear," a space to demystify this condition, break taboos, and face all the fears.

The most important thing in this turbulent world of Autism is NOT to suffer in silence. Fears must be appreciated as allies and thus try to get society to respect and accept Neurodiversity with a bit of humor, an enthusiastic approach, and the occasional tear.

We all have an inner voice that expresses criticism, frustration, or disapproval of our actions. However, despite living with us throughout our lives and being our ally, it can become our worst enemy.

When we talk about self-sabotage, our inner voice is the cause of this tendency, where we sabotage ourselves and hinder our achievements or goals; all this comes unconsciously. Therefore, our job to overcome it is to be aware of it.

Welcome to the third season of I Am Mantuana, the podcast. This episode's topic is self-sabotage—I'll be explaining and teaching you how to get rid of it. Also, I will share tips that were very useful to me in my struggle with self-sabotage so you can apply them in your life too.

Stopping the self-sabotage cycle is not easy. It requires commitment and perseverance, but you are not alone; you can do it. If this is your struggle, I hope you find this episode helpful.

EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS

[5:13] What is the critical inner voice?

It is the culprit of our negative and harmful thoughts. Although sometimes it seems that it tries to protect us, in most cases, it is just sabotaging us in different aspects of our lives. You have to learn how to deal with it.

[13:43] Can I get rid of my inner critic?

You will find different opinions on this topic. However, I think we can't. We should learn how to live with it because it will remain with us forever.

[16:50] Be aware of your inner voice.

From here, we start with the tips and advice segment, and this one is the most important. We must learn to be aware of that voice inside us to prevent it from filling our minds with negative thoughts that may end up sabotaging us.

[18:43] Put a name and a body to your inner critic.

Call me crazy, but this is an important step. This exercise will help us free ourselves from an identity that does not reflect who we really are.

[23:27] Ask yourself, are these thoughts true?

One of the biggest mistakes we make, is believing that everything our inner voice says is true. It is necessary to ask ourselves this question as part of the process to stop the self-sabotage cycle in our lives.

[25:14] Find out what triggers your inner critic.

In this process, we must be aware of those circumstances that trigger our inner critic so that when we go through it again, we are prepared and can take action at the time.

[25:57] Turn those thoughts into something positive.

I know it is hard to articulate positive words to ourselves, but we must give to us the affection and love we give others. As people say, we cannot love others without loving ourselves. Every time a negative thought comes, turn it into something positive and make this a daily practice for at least a month.

QUOTES

● "Dance around your inner critic."

● "Consistency is the key."

Being a mother of a neurodiverse child teaches you a lot. It opens your eyes to problems and circumstances that we did not know or did not understand.

During Autism Awareness Month, I want to share the teaching and the experiences that have left me being a mother of an incredible child who is on the autism spectrum.

As a mother, we always know when something is wrong with our children, and finally, after six years, I got the answers to my concerns. My son Ethan was diagnosed with autism, and although he suffers from a developmental disorder, that doesn't change my love for him.

In this episode, I will share how a balanced diet has made an unimaginable change in my son's life, leading him to have his best school year yet.

Let's use this month to create awareness of the invisible disabilities that surround us. Let's educate, support, and be an example that autism is not the end of the world but a way of seeing it through other lenses.

With this episode, we close season two of I Am Mantuana but don't be sad because I'll be back soon with new topics and amazing guests.

See you soon,

La Mantuana.

EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS

[0:57] Food for the brain

I am a believer that the way we eat also influences our health. My husband and I decided to change our diet as a family. We eliminate flour, processed food, sugar, etc. We lived difficult months since the change was radical and the children's rejection of the new way of feeding us was a challenge, but it was 100% worth it now that we see results.

[7:10] Perceiving the benefits of the new diet.

Although it started as a kind of test, I witnessed the power of food in my son's life. He improved his grades, relates better with others, and even the doctors saw an improvement in his health. People cannot believe that he is an autistic child.

[11:40] Autism awareness month.

This month is to realize the invisible struggle that thousands of people suffer and affect their lives. Today we must celebrate that what we ignored for several years today has a treatment and can be detected from an early age. In this month, I celebrate how we have successfully managed as a family to support each other and how we have been able to give a better quality of life to one of the puzzle pieces that make up my family, my oldest son, Ethan.

Talking about mental health 20, 30 years ago is very different from today. The information was scarce, and no one talked about this before—a person dealing with depression was considered lazy, and a person with anxiety was weird, not realizing that behind the physical, there was a mental issue going on.

In Latin countries, talking about mental health is taboo—there is no such conversation between families or the workplace. Latinos are taught to be strong from an early age, and having a mental illness is a sign of weakness. For this reason, many parents ignore how their children feel, and it can be a mistake that can end up causing terrible consequences.

For this episode, I'll be joining two beautiful women, Silenia Anselmo and Elisa Costa, to talk about mental health. How to take care of our mental health in time, mental health on a personal and professional level, and we will be debunking the myths about therapy. These are some of the topics of today's episode, press play, and don't miss it.

EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS

  • [8:42] A mix between the corporate world and the health world.

Anselmo Consulting was created to offer a service to large companies to support their employees differently, providing them a healthier environment where their mental health is a priority.

  • [10:16] Why is mental health still taboo these days?

There are many factors. It may be fear of being judged, feeling vulnerable, etc. Many times it is because people do not give it importance.

  • [14:53] When should we seek help?

Not all mental health illnesses are the same, and some symptoms are more evident than others. If we notice a sudden change in our mood or energy, we must be alert. Some people sleep a lot, and others sleep less than 4 hours.

  • [20:59] Mental health and work.

Large corporations are looking for star employees, and many times, we try to be that star. Unfortunately, these companies do not care about the employee but about the money that they generate for them. So take it easy, you and your health are the most important thing.

  • [23:10] Mental health and new generations.

As you may have read in one of my posts on @iammantuana, I told you that the new generations are changing the game and putting the conversation about mental health on the table. Companies could be affected when recruiting new employees since millennials are more interested in their peace of mind over stability.

  • [30:40] The benefits of going to therapy.

In this segment, we will debunk all the myths about therapy. We will talk about confidentiality, feeling judged, and feeling our emotions.

QUOTES

  • "Motivated and healthier employees will perform better" —Silenia Anselmo.
  • "Mental health still does not share the same status as physical health." —Elisa Costa

One of my favourite cartoons since childhood has been Wonder Woman. She is strong, intelligent, flies, fights crime, and seems almost indestructible. My admiration was so great that, in my childhood, I dressed up as her at Carnivals.

When we talk about what it means to be a woman, it depends on the meaning that each of us, as women, gives to it because we are talking about millions of human beings who have had different experiences in life. We have grown up hearing that women have to be strong, that we have to take care of our house, our children, etc. But in the 21st century, those labels have to change.

Scrolling through social media, we see hundreds of influencers who seem to have their lives together. We make the mistake of trying to imitate their lives because we want to achieve that perfection we see in social media. We are not all the same. Don't try to imitate anyone's life, don't rush your walk. Learn to live life at our own pace.

In my case, I always put pressure on myself because I wanted to be the perfect mother, the perfect wife, a girl boss who knows and can do everything. But I had to stop and think, how much pressure do I put on my shoulders? I am not a Superwoman—I am a woman who is a wife, a mother of two, a worker, an entrepreneur, and who gives her all in her day-to-day life. However, there are also days when I want to rest, when I don't feel okay to clean my house or wash the pile of clothes, and that's fine.

Today, I'll share five things you can do during the day to help you feel fulfilled and unstoppable. Enjoy!

EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS

  • [6:50] Have your priorities done.

There are 24 hours in a day, and we want to do hundreds of tasks and finish them the same day; that's impossible. We have to learn to prioritise our tasks and responsibilities. We have to stop putting pressure on ourselves to have everything done on the same day. It's okay if we leave some things for tomorrow.

  • [7:58] Do a morning ritual.

This changed my life. After reading the book The Miracle Morning by Hal Elrod, I decided to change my mornings. Meditation, affirmations, and gratitude are part of my morning ritual and make me wake up the day on the right foot.

  • [9:12] Follow a routine.

Following a routine is essential to creating structure in your life. They keep you focused on what you need to do for the day.

  • [10:28] Be okay.

When I talk about this, I mean being okay with the things you could or couldn't do during the day. Go ahead and tell yourself: I tried, I did my best. Don't hit yourself for the things you couldn't do.

  • [12:50] Have fun.

Have fun with the things you do. Even if your responsibilities aren't fun, make them something you enjoy. Add music, sing, dance. Not everything has to be serious.

QUOTES

  • "You don't need to be perfect."
  • "Don't compare yourself with others."

Find your life purpose with three simple questions.

One of the most amazing things in life is that after all the good and bad things we go through, they lead us to live experiences and leave us with learnings that we will never forget. Why do I talk about this? Because to know what our purpose is, we must know ourselves better.

Our purpose as a meaning of life is related to our dreams, to what we like, to what we can say "I would do this for free all my life." Unfortunately, many people remain in jobs where they do not feel comfortable. If you are one of them, this is a sign for you to start asking yourself what your purpose in life is and to go after it. Many successful people took risks in their life, leaving behind stable jobs to pursue their dreams, and they achieved it. You can be one of them too.

Do you know what your purpose is? Press play and find it.

EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS

  • [1:00] The first moment I thought about my purpose.

Finding mine was not something that happened overnight. It all started with the birth of my daughter, Grace. I felt like I missed so many things from my son's early years because I was working a lot that I didn't want the same thing to happen with her. That's when I began the process of searching for my purpose.

  • [10:28] The purpose comes from the things you love.

I grew up with a great interest in computers. I felt that it was magical, that just by adding some code, a lot of amazing things could be done. For this reason, in my college career, I decided to study system engineering. Although my love for technology was undoubted, I have also always been a people person. Knowing this helped me in discovering my purpose

  • [15:27] Three things to keep you focused at work.

1) Feel connected to something bigger than yourself.

2) Know your work matters.

3) Understand how your work affects others.

  • [21:52] The I Am Mantuana Podcast was born to complement my purpose.

Today I can understand that my purpose is to help others. That I love to talk, help, communicate and teach and it is something that has always been in me. I love the interaction and the human warmth. I love knowing that through words, I can change someone's life, and that is so rewarding. This podcast allows me to do all of that. Also, my new venture as a coach, and I'm excited about that.

  • [38:57] Three questions to help you find your purpose.

1) If you had all the money in the world, what would you spend your time on?

2) How would your perfect day be?

3) What activities set your soul on fire?

QUOTES

"If you're in a job where you don't feel good, you need to find your purpose." —Patricia.

Are you looking for a job? Then this episode is for you.

Getting to a job interview is hard. We get nervous, don't know what to say, or forget who we are. The best thing you can do is be yourself cause the employers already have your resume and know your talents and skill; they just want to know you on a personal level.

To be different is to be memorable, and companies hire the people they remember the most. Now relax because if you are different and have something to offer, you are already one step closer to being hired.

Our guest Michelle Sohl knows very well what employers are looking for in 2022, and she is here to spill the tea.

Press play, take notes, and enjoy!

EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS

[11:08] What are companies looking for in 2022.

With all the changes in the business world after the pandemic, large companies realized that they had to reinvent themselves. One of the points they brought to the table was to include diversity in the company. Therefore, being different could be your best asset to stand out in job interviews this year.

We all know the importance of history through time, but we never give enough matter to ours. Our past helped us build our present, so be proud of yours, especially one of the most meaningful events of it; immigrating.

Despite the stigmas that all immigrants suffer, we can use this difference to stand out in different aspects of our lives.

In this episode, I want to share three things you should do to become a proud immigrant and turn it into an asset for your life.

Enjoy!

EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS

[6:50] You are the best storyteller.

Whatever you're doing right now is because you deserve it. Share your story with pride, the good, the bad, and the ugly.

Storytelling is extraordinary for your professional and personal life; it helps you connect with people and never forget you.

[16:05] Make fun of the stereotypes.

One of the things I learned in my country is knowing how to laugh at bad things. Stereotypes don't define who you are. Laughter is one of the best ways to cope with these types of uncomfortable or negative moments, especially because you know you are not like that. Just laugh!

[21:19] Connect with what you know.

As immigrants from less developed countries, we are used to working hard or simply having less modern tools, unlike developed ones. You already know how to work hard, now, the next part is learning how to use those tools.

QUOTES

"Your immigration story is the most fascinating story you can tell anybody." -Patricia M.

"Whatever you're doing right now is because you deserve it." -Patricia M.

There are many things you can do to avoid the weight loss plateau. There is so much information on the internet about healthy ways to lose weight, so don't put yourself in danger.

When it comes to losing weight, due to ignorance, we make many mistakes that, instead of helping us, can be harmful to our health. For this reason, in today's episode, our focus is to give you the best advice and tips and inform you about the misconceptions about this subject.

Remember, not all of us go on diets or work out to look like models. Many people do it for health reasons. Let's promote a healthy life for you and yours.

Here is the second part of our interview with Eva Rodriguez. Enjoy!

EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS

  • [1:00] Start a food journal.

Keep track of what you eat, including the exercises you do. Having data will allow you to find the problem quickly when you can't see any results.

  • [5:36] Eat enough.

We have the misconception that eating less will help us lose pounds; false. If your body feels like it's starving, it will hold fat as a survival mechanism. Another thing is that depriving yourself of food can lead to waking up in the middle of the night with cravings and breaking your diet.

  • [7:02] De-stress.

If you are stressed, your body goes into survival mode; again. From my experience as a person that suffered from chronic stress, I will say that one of the biggest enemies of weight loss and muscle development is stress.

  • [10:09] Be aware of your thoughts.

Having a healthy mindset is crucial. Our thoughts and feelings affect everything we do—the good thing is that we can choose them. So, be aware, especially if it is self-sabotaging.

  • [19:18] Be clear on your goal.

Sometimes we get ambitious with our goals. We want to lose ten pounds in a week but that is not healthy, especially for women, because it will throw our hormones out of control. Let's be realistic and do it healthily.

  • [21:03] Find an exercise you enjoy.

The gym is not the only way we can exercise. We can do pilates, ride a bike, etc. You have to enjoy exercising because if you don't get excited about what you're doing, you can end up quitting.

  • [22:59] Find a food protocol that you can eat forever.

Eat what makes your body feel good. Our body sends us signals of what it likes or can't stand. For example, I know we all enjoy eating pizza, but if you eat it every day, you are probably going to get sick. See food as fuel and not as comfortable.

  • [26:39] Be mindful of your sleep.

We need sleep to rest and help our bodies recover. Not sleeping causes fatigue and stress; those factors do not help reduce fat. Sleep helps combat stress.

  • [27:37] Drink enough water.

In addition to helping us with digestion and eliminating toxins, it controls our appetite. When you don't drink enough water throughout the day, your body thinks it's hungry, but no, it's dehydrated.

QUOTES

"Stress will not let you lose weight." - Eva R.

"If you can't eat or do that exercise for the rest of your life, don't do it.." - Eva R.

EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS

  • [1:40] Meeting Eva Rodriguez.

An exceptional holistic health coach and personal trainer. She helps busy mompreneurs to lose weight.

  • [4:19] Eva's journey.

An emotional eater. Stress, anxiety, and poor nutrition took her to the hospital. The motivation to be healthier to see your child grow led her to change her life and achieve certification in areas of health and nutrition.

  • [14:04] Why do we get stuck in our weight loss?

It all goes back to primitive times. The principal function of fat in the body is to survive the extreme cold, lack of food, breastfeeding, etc. All those things in ancient times were of concern to human beings since there were no supermarkets or fur coats.

The solution? Find ways to make your body understand that it is not in a state of survival.

Worrying you will not solve anything, but taking action will.

The following week is Blue Monday. In the UK, we consider this day the saddest day of the year. We came back from the holidays and worried about all the money we spent, debts, etc. It takes hold of us, added to the darkness of the clouds that surround the country along with its low temperatures.

I'll tell you something—I'm a recovering worrier. I have it in my DNA, it is part of me, and I had to learn to control it. For this reason, in this episode, I will share five tips with you that helped me change the way I think and take me to live a less stressful and less worried life.

Spend your time relaxing instead of worrying.

Enjoy the episode!

EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS

  • [12:48] Be in the present.

Most of the time, we worry about things that will happen in the future. We occupy our minds and waste our time in situations that have not yet occurred or may never occur.

You can only change today; enjoy the now.

  • [13:29] Practice awareness.

The most important thing is to learn how to identify it to stop it. Ask yourself, is this worth continuing to occupy your mind with this worry?

  • [14:53] Ask yourself about the possibilities.

I recommend using the third-person strategy to answer this question. Often, we need to put our feet on the ground and think if we are giving more importance than it deserves to the problem or situation we face.

  • [15:53] Turn that thought into an action plan.

One of the mistakes we make is worrying without doing anything about it to change it. Ask yourself, can I solve this right now? and start taking action.

  • [18:18] Don't focus on the negative.

In every circumstance, moment, or situation that we go through, there is always 50 percent that everything goes well and another 50 percent that it goes wrong. Focus on the positive things because you never really know what life will have in store for you.

Positive thinking manifests positive things in you and your life.

QUOTES

"The best antidote to worry is action." -Patricia Manley.

"By thinking about your worries, you focus your attention on the future, and you are not living what is happening now." -Patricia Manley.

Functional medicine hit the nail on the head, and I could understand that chronic stress was affecting my health.

  • [20:00] Be fearless in my decisions.

In the past episodes, you may have heard about my plans to move to Germany. However, for my family and everything we were going through with the children, the school, etc. I had to make a decision that could jeopardize my position at work. Luckily, everything went well, and now remote work rules.

It does not matter if you are a mother, father, businessman, or the busiest person in the world; you need to take a break for the sake of yourself and the people around you.

  • [3:19] How to prepare yourself for the questions?

It is not an easy process. So, find some time to do this, a quiet place, a notebook, or a journal, and start your 2021 review to give the best of you next year.

  • [6:30] First question: What did I accomplish?

I know that negative memories will come to your mind faster than negative ones. Surely some of you will answer "nothing," but try to remember, even the tiniest things you achieved deserve recognition.

  • [8:00] Second question: What were my biggest disappointments?

What happened, happened. This question is not to make us sad but to write it down on paper, let off steam, and be able to move on with our lives.

  • [9:16] Third question: What did I learn?

We all learn something new every day. At the beginning of the year, you were a different person than you are now, and it's because of the things you have learned during these months that have led you to be a wiser person.

  • [12:08] Fourth question: How do I limit myself, and how do I stop it?

One of our greatest enemies is ourselves. Many times, we limit ourselves by things that are not true. When you realise it, you will notice how much stuff it has cost you in your life.

  • [18:08] Fifth question: What are my values?

Have a judgment of what is important or valuable in your life; this will lead you to make better decisions.

  • [20:40] Sixth question: What role do I play?

It is necessary to identify the responsibilities of each role that you fulfil. Asking yourself this question gives you direction and helps you find balance in your life.

  • [22:03] Seventh question: Which role is my principal focus for next year?

What is it that you will give prominence to next year? Start thinking about it, and it will make it easier for you to have the best year of your life.

  • [25:04] Eighth question: What is my goal for each role?

You can be a mother, sister or brother, etc. I am sure you want to improve your relationship with every person in your life. Set goals that help you improve your relationships with them.

  • [25:58] Ninth question: What are my top tangles for next year?

Learn to identify it. Go straight to the point you want to improve and start looking for solutions.

  • [27:14] Tenth question: How do I make sure I meet all of my goals?

Once you have set your goals, you have to start meeting them. Write your goals and cut them into small daily or weekly actions that you know you can meet. Step by step, you will be closer to reaching them.

When we leave our country of birth and emigrate to a country temporarily or definitely, we can feel a mixture of emotions. Excitement, curiosity, fear, sadness, but we constantly feel lost.

Adaptation is one of the most significant stages in our process as immigrants. But at some point, we have to decide if we want to continue fitting in or stand out. Our guest is a woman who has lived in at least ten countries and has faced this process dozens of times without neglecting her identity. Today, Saskia Kremer will teach us how valuable and unique we are.

Have you heard about the third culture before? If you are an immigrant, you may have it. Listen to today's episode and find out.

EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS

  • [2:25] Creating your opportunity.

After traveling the world, today's guest found herself unable to practice her profession in her country of birth. So, she decided to create her own business in Holland and started from scratch when she moved to Ireland.

  • [7:48] Sometimes, our homeland is not the best place for us.

Although many of us have beautiful memories of the country in which we were born, sometimes it is not the best place for us. Where we feel comfortable, free, happy, and have the opportunity to grow will always be the best place for us.

  • [16:16] Sacrificing who we are to fit in.

When we feel alone, we are more vulnerable to being attacked. That is why we develop a defense mechanism to protect ourselves. Frequently, we camouflage who we are so as not to feel singled out or judged; all of this ends up causing us a conflict with our identity.

  • [20:52] The balance between belonging and maintaining our identity.

It is okay to adapt to the culture and traditions of the country we inhabit. However, we must always ask ourselves, "do these changes feel good to me, or am I just changing to fit?" When we find a balance between who we are and the new knowledge and traditions we obtain from this new country that welcomed us, we create a new culture and be ourselves.

  • [29:41] Do women have advantages when emigrating?

The answer is no. We all have advantages and disadvantages alike.

  • [34:37] Self-sabotage doesn't allow us to expand.

We all have a little voice in our mind that is always full of negative comments. We must learn to identify those negative thoughts and put them aside. Remember that you are a strong person because you decided to leave your birthplace looking for a better future. You are worthy of admiration.

  • [36:23] How can we stand out?

When I speak of standing out, I am not referring to taking attitudes or doing things to make us feel superior to others. What will make you stand out is accepting and loving yourself as you are—that day, you will shine, and everyone will notice you.

  • [41:02] Podcasts, books, and people who inspire us.

Saskia's story is impressive. She had the opportunity to work with Mother Teresa at a young age, and today she lets us know that she has been an inspiration for her.

QUOTES
"Each individual is unique, and we don't have to blend it so much because then everything turns grey, and that doesn't serve anybody." -Saskia K.

Do you know how to be resilient?

A resilient person is loved and admired by many. But, their strength works against them, not only in his personal life but also in his professional life. Companies love these types of people. After all, they "bear it all," forgetting that they are also human, and despite being strong, we all have a breaking point.

We all desire to have the ability to get up when everything is falling apart, be strong despite the circumstances, and have a smile on our faces even when nothing is okay. In conclusion, we all want to be resilient, but it goes further than that.

Today's guest, Lillian Hernandez, is here to talk about this topic. She is the life coach we all need in our lives. This astonishing woman will teach us how to develop that skill without falling on the negative side of it.

  • [20:39] 3 tips for building resilience.

In this segment, Lillian shared with us the perfect tips to start working on it.

  • [31:49] We all have a breaking point.

One question, do you love yourself?

Sometimes we think that self-love is just grooming ourselves, dressing well, putting on makeup, exercising to have a flat abdomen, and all those superficial things. But, when you look at yourself in the mirror without all the glamour, with a few extra kilos and tousled, can you say: "I love myself"?

Self-love takes effort, practice, and perseverance. I know it is not easy to learn to love ourselves living in a society where the physical aspect is everything but, we can achieve it.

In this episode, my intention is to make you change the idea you have about self-love and to be able to help you to reach it.

Com’on! Hug yourself today and say “I am beautiful”.

EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS.

  • [2:11] What does self-love mean?

Loving ourselves is simply accepting ourselves for who we are and what we are.

  • [5:53] Are affirmations enough?

Affirmations are a complement but, they are not all we need to reach self-love.

  • [7:44] Stop comparing yourself to others.

One of the most common mistakes we make is comparing ourselves to others. Remember, each person is beautiful in their own way, and learn that the most important thing is what you think of yourself.

  • [9:04] Don't worry about other people's opinions.

Opinions are only opinions, and the people who express them don't care about you at all, so why do you have to care about them?

  • [12:15] Allow yourself to make mistakes.

We learn from mistakes, don't be so hard on you, allow yourself to fall but always remember to get up.

  • [14:24] Don't be afraid of letting go of toxic people.

Toxic people can affect your growth more than you imagine. My advice is: don't separate them from your life. Just don't include them in your growth process.

  • [16:39] Process your fears.

Feeling fear is natural, do not push them away; understand them.

  • [18:03] Trust yourself.

Our instincts are wiser than we imagine. You always know what is best for you.

  • [20:02] Take every opportunity.

Take action. If the opportunity is in front of you, take it, and if it is not there, create it.

  • [21:59] Put yourself first.

How can we start loving ourselves if we are the last on our list of importance? Start to be the first on your list, and you will see how your life changes positively.

  • [24:47] Be aware of your feelings.

Allow yourself to feel. Do not hide your feelings.

  • [25:54] See the beauty in the simple things.

Many times the most beautiful things are in front of us, and we do not realize it. Learn to value what surrounds you, and you will find beauty in every corner.

  • [27:13] Be kind to yourself.

Why can we be kind to our friends and strangers but not to ourselves? Remember that we have a relationship with our mind, body, and soul. Therefore, it is necessary to nurture it every day.

  • [28:23] Start practicing.

Be patient with yourself. Change internally is not an easy task but, step by step, you will achieve it.

  • [31:28] Self-love books.
  • You Are a Badass.
  • What to Say When You Talk to Your Self.
  • Stop Saying You're Fine.

QUOTES

  • "Don't put limitations on your feelings. You are not your feelings. The feelings can last 90 seconds and then go away. They don't represent who you really are." –Patricia.

"Good vibes only" it's a red flag for toxic positivity.

I know it may sound controversial, but have you ever thought that people who say they are positive tend to be a bit toxic? Phrases like "man up" or "woman up," "get over it," "just be positive" often serve to shame people for not having a positive attitude or solely minimize their feelings.

Allow yourself to cry, allow yourself to get angry, allow yourself to feel stressed or confused because life is not perfect. Many times we need to feel to grow and find happiness. We do not always have to be smiling all the time. We should not hide our emotions or pretend something we are not because we are human and feelings make us feel alive.

In this episode, I want you to understand that it is okay not to be okay all the time.

Are you a person with toxic positivism? Do you know how to deal with these types of people? Learn all this in today's episode.

Clutch a cup of coffee or a glass of wine because more than a teaching is a conversation between you and me. Enjoy!

EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS

  • [1:16] What's toxic positivity?

It is when people maintain a positive mindset no matter how bad the situation is.

  • [7:50] Be empathic.

Many times we do not know how to help others when they are going through a difficult time. We want to help them feel better but, many times it doesn't work, and it is because we do not take the time to put ourselves in their shoes.

  • [9:04] "Positive vibes only."

Not allowing yourself to feel negative feelings can take you away from personal growth.

  • [11:24] What are the signs?

We can all suffer from toxic positivity without knowing it. In this segment, I share with you some of the signs.

  • [15:42] How to avoid it?

The best way to avoid this is by changing the way we communicate with others. Let's change "be positive" to "there's a lot that can go wrong but, what can go right?" and in this way, we will help others better.

QUOTES

  • "Emotions are valid." –Patricia .
  • "The sooner you feel all you want to feel, the sooner you can move on." –Patricia.

It's not Vag, Vajayjay, Bajingo—its name is Vagina, and it is a part of the female body. Although its name is still taboo in our society, it should not be alarming. It is as simple as saying shoulder, arm, or leg.

The relationship with our genitals begins at a very young age. For this reason, the sexual education given by our parents is crucial to developing a healthy relationship with them.

In this episode, I have a super charismatic and fun guest. She is the author of the book The Ins and Out of the Vagina, Karin Freeland. During the recording, we enjoyed a fun and informative conversation about the taboos existing regarding this topic. When we are adults, we make the conscious decision to emigrate. But what happens when we are parents, and we take our children with us?

Our guest Claudia Lopez emigrated to the UK from Colombia when she was only 11 years old. She was able to experience firsthand the challenges that children have to overcome when migrating.

Today, we will have the opportunity to listen to the point of view of what a child lives in these circumstances, dealing with not only the language barrier but with the new world to which they have to adapt.

There are millions of people calling the country to which they migrated home. So, talking about diversity has become the norm.

Avoiding looking in the mirror as an escape from our thoughts.

We all go through moments in which we do not feel comfortable with our surroundings, what we do or how we look, and start to lose our identity and comparing ourselves with the rest of the people.

Often, we are the first to point out ourselves looking for flaws inside and outside instead of taking what we do not like and work on it.

We must understand that making a change is a constant process it requires working on it every day, no matter how difficult it may seem. We have tools, information, and many people out there willing to help us with this process to achieve that stage in our life where we can feel fully comfortable with ourselves.

We are valuable and worth it, do not forget about it!

EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS

  • [3:34] I don't like what I see in the mirror.

It is the moment when you hate the reflection in your mirror, which leads you to lose your identity and compare yourself with other people questioning everything you do.

  • [8:28] It's time to change because I don't want to feel like this for the rest of my life.

We always start the change for the one thing that is under our control: our body. Thinking that changing our external appearance will fix everything when reality is far away from it.

  • [15:25] Changes require constant work.

Making changes in ourselves will always be a daily job in many aspects. Changes require mental preparation, education, management of the external factors that influence, and surrounding yourself with the right people.

QUOTES

"To flourish, you need to connect your mind, your body, your skin, held all together in sync." -Patricia Manley.

"To obtain that true transformation, never stop because it takes more than losing some weight to changes to happen from within with your mind, your body, your skin, and your health." -Patricia Manley.

It is never too late to build a new home in another country.

Being over 50 and decide to leave our established home to build a new one in another country is not something very common to experience. Facing numerous changes in a new stage of life can be seen as an arduous path where we practically have to start from scratch.

Today's guest is Constanza Leal. In our conversation, Constanza tells us about her personal experience of building a new home in another country during a stage of life in which most of us wouldn't think to be capable of making such a huge change.

Constanza lived in different countries for many years. In the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic, she decided to return to the UK to—once again—become part of the community she left, building new relationships to feel the comfort of being at home again.

Age is just a number; it's never too late to get on board.

EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS

  • [3:10] Introducing our guest.

A warm welcome for today's guest: Constanza Leal.

  • [6:10] Coming back to the UK.

  • [9:50] Hesitations and fears of coming back home.

Meeting —again—a community that you left 30 years ago and trying to be part of it is something that gives you a lot to think about but is not impossible.

  • [18:00] Starting from de scratch in the middle of a pandemic.

It presents many challenges, especially facing new rules and a new lifestyle; it changes the life you were used to completely. Now imagine being Constanza and start to build a new home with just two suitcases, this woman has guts!

  • [23:30] What to keep in mind for a new beginning.

Constanza will share three crucial things that we must keep in mind to face this change.

  • [27:50] Leave what I had already built.

There will always be significant decisions in our lives. When we decide to leave the country we live in, we will leave careers, projects, jobs, etc., behind, but what we should never leave behind is the idea of continuing with our projects or create new ones, no matter where we are.

We may lose vision once we landed in a new country.

Visualising the best version of you as a key factor will help you grow and reach that goal or place where you want to be in this new adventure.

In life, we come across small and big coincidences — that perhaps are nothing more than goals we manage to achieve — at some point, we believe and have faith in ourselves involving the power of visualisation without realising it.

In today's episode with Jemelin Artigas, we discovered how the power of visualising ourselves can lead us to where we want to be in the short, medium, or long term to reach our goals by using the power of words. Learn how your feelings, actions, and believing in you is the best tool to achieve everything you want.

Visualisation allows you not to be afraid of the future because you know that you will become what you want to be because you believe in it.

EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS

[2:50] Introducing our guest.

A warm welcome for today's guest: Jemelin Artigas

[6:55] Having a vision.

Many times unconsciously, we use the power of vision, and it is not until we really handle the concept of what it means that we understand the reason for many things related to our actions.

[10:11] From the bottom to success.

Being in our worst moments in life helps us understand where we don't want to be, and we must fight and believe in our ability to reach the top.

[13:15] Being who I am thanks to the power of visualisation.

Allowing us to believe in ourselves, really believing in something that will happen, makes us understand the concept of visualisation and all that we can achieve thanks to it.

[20:19] Tv show opportunity "The Apprentice."

In bad times, great opportunities always appear. We just have to take them believing in ourselves, leading us to achieve wonderful experiences and discoveries in life.

[28:54] Visualisation in our favour.

Just simple steps that will help us understand that if we think of opportunities, we will spot opportunities everywhere, using visualisation as a power of attraction.

[35:18] What's next for Jemelin.

A new project to inspire people with her experience, teaching people we all are winners since we are born and can overcome any obstacle if we want to.

[39:21] Enjoy the ride.

Mistakes will always exist; they will always be an experience we have to learn and improve. Life is a journey that must be enjoyed because there will always be something new to learn.

In this episode, we will understand how a life coach could contribute a significant amount of change in our lifestyle and mindset. I will share more information as to why you should invest in getting a life coach.

Solvy’s Passion

[3:51]

Being an immigrant comes with many challenges when you want to follow your dreams and pursue whatever you want to do. So, I had to reinvent myself and try to find new ways to do what I wanted to do. On that quest to find my new purpose, I realized that I wanted to connect with people and live my life to impact people's lives positively.

[4:31]

I have a podcast and essence financials called De Vidas Comunes, where we talk about life experiences and how we all go through very similar things at different times in our lives.

[4:49]

I started doing life coaching, which is what I finally found as my true purpose in life. I think because connecting with people and guiding them in a way to become a better person is amazing for me.

Life Coaching

[7:51]

As Latin Americans, we grew up thinking, going to the psychologist was for crazy people. Everyone needs help, and everyone needs guide guidance at some point in their lives. They know they have much potential but sometimes need guidance to unlock their potential and actually use that. So, a life coach is someone that's going to guide you through that process; it's someone that's going to help you connect with yourself and get to know yourself better.

How to know if you need a life coach?

[11:42]

You feel like you can't find that purpose to stop procrastinating, or you can't manage your time in a better way. Maybe you feel lost, feel like you don't have a purpose, or you let fear hold you back. That could be why you might need a life coach. So if you find yourself always going back to the same behaviour, always trying to sabotage your success and all the things you want to do, you might need someone to help you find the tools you already have.

Importance of Guidance

[16:20]

So needing guidance is 100% normal and is actually a great decision. When something breaks down in your house, you don't try to fix it yourself. Sometimes you do that; some other times, you don't try to fix it yourself because that's not the area where you know. That's why you would want to ask someone for guidance when you need it. Through the right questions, exercises, and activities that you can do during sessions, you can find that power and that those tools will stay with you forever. A life coach can help you find that reason and the root of the problem so you can actually fix it if it's a bad habit.

[19:24]

My area of work is a lot of self-esteem, self-confidence, and decision-making. My program's goal is for that person to live as someone who is confident, better equipped to make decisions and good quality decisions.

Recommended books

[23:10]

I have read a book that is from Mel Robbins. She's a life coach, but she also does many other things. She's an author in the States, and the book is called "The 5 Second Rule" where it's going to help you no matter the situation or what area of your life you want to work on. Often, a lot of the brain prep process happens when we decide, such as when is the best time to decide and how you can actually make it happen because if you don't have that action, the present is never going to happen.

In this episode, we’re going to reflect on one of the things that as a woman really made up the difference in my life was discovering my imposter syndrome. Something that I think I suffer pretty much all my life without realising it. I will share things that you can do when you’re feeling that impostor syndrome.

Impostor Syndrome

[2:18]

I was talking to my ex-boss about my doubt and excuses. Why things hadn't worked out in the way that I wanted. And she just simply say, to probably am suffering from imposter syndrome. And I didn't have a clue what she was talking about.

[3:04]

Impostor syndrome refers to an internal experience of believing that you are not as competent as all others perceive you to be. It can affect anyone, no matter their social status, work background, skill level, or degree of expertise.

Signs of Impostor Syndrome and How can you deal with it

[3:47]

Self-doubt and inability to realistically assess your skills as routine use access to external factors. So it's never, you, it's something else. Fear that you wouldn't live up to expectation over achieving sabotaging your own success.

[8:57]

Part of it was a lot of my body language, not showing that I was confident of what I was doing or what I was.

[11:27]

I realised that my behaviour changed and that I knew what I was doing. With that, the perception of all those starts changing. I could see myself in the meetings when people were asking me things and me rather than go for approval.

[13:19]

After a little while when I start demonstrating that I knew what I was talking about, that I was assertive, that I answered the questions, and then the inquiries and the questions about my job or my teams started to diminish to non questions at all. And that for me was a triumph. With that, I realised what was my value. I realised that I was able to give more, but also I wanted more. I wanted to do a lot more.

[15:17]

  • Create awareness of those things. Let go of your inner perfectionist.
  • Be kind to yourself. Turn down the negative thoughts and practice more positive thoughts by turning those negative ones into good ones.
  • Give yourself more realistic goals.

[20:20]

Do what professional athletes do spend time beforehand, picturing yourself, making a successful presentation on helping that client answer all their questions, very calm and collected. Think about your position. Think about how you are expressing yourself. Think about the energy that you're going to show, imagine that you are sending to these people wave and wave of positive energy.

[22:14]

You will never see these failures as a negative. It's just a way of learning new skills and learning how to do better. Don't fight the imposter syndrome. Don't try to avoid it. Don't try to hide it from yourself, embrace it as set it and move on.

Loving our body is not easy. The standards of beauty, others' opinions, what we see on television, and constantly comparing ourselves with others make us live in constant displeasure with the way our body looks.

Stress plays a significant role in our body. Weight gain and loss can be the stress reflected in our diet. Some release it by eating or not.

For me, the best way I have found to release stress has been through exercise, a habit that took me eight years to create but which I have finally adopted in my life. After spending many years without liking my body or the way I saw it today, I can say that I love every part of it.

For this episode, I want to tell you some tips to make exercise a habit. I will give you step by step what you should do so that through the exercise habit, you achieve your dream body and learn to love your body by shaping it the way you have always wanted.

Press play and get the exercise bug!

EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS.

  • 1:34 Defense mechanisms against stress.

We all suffer from stress. For me, it was because of a beauty standard that I thought I would never fit into and my constant comparison with the other women I saw until I found that my defense mechanism was to relieve stress with exercises.

  • 11:07 Why did I put exercise aside and the moment I decided to take care of myself.

When I got pregnant with my first child, I put exercise aside, reaching the point of being unhappy with my body, but I had to decide for myself beyond following an aesthetic or beauty standard.

  • 15:06 How to make exercise a habit that stays.
  • Start small: start with small goals that lead you to achieve your exercise dreams.
  • Make it automatic with triggers: identify the triggers for you because they will soon become a habit.
  • Reward yourself: compete with yourself and when you reach your goal, make a big celebration and immediately your effort.
  • Choose activities that make you feel happy and confident.
  • Stop giving up: Starting over and over will take years of work to get what you want. It is easier to be consistent than to give up.

Sales fear is real. We can say that one of the biggest fears we found in sales is rejection. Offering a product is inviting customers to talk about what we are selling, but what happens when potential customers reject this invitation? Nothing! It has nothing to do with who you are as a person. Your purpose is to sell, and the customer buys; if there's no match, let's go with enthusiasm for the next potential buyer.

In sales, mindset is essential; it can be an advantage or a disadvantage. When we make excuses, when we are pessimistic and afraid of rejection, that stops us from achieving successful sales. Change your way of thinking and show up the Wall street wolf in you (legally, of course).

Today's guest is the incredible Adriana Romero, a business developer and marketing strategist; a total sales expert. Adriana is a Venezuelan immigrant based in Canada. Founder of Hustle in Heels, a company that helps Immigrant mothers lose their fear of taking their first step in Canada. She also works as an incredible strategist in the sales area for different companies.

Just like Adriana and I, immigrate to a country where you don't know anyone, you don't have contacts, and you have to create a path on your own; there are millions of immigrants looking for an opportunity often found in the sales area. However, many people's sales concept makes them reject this opportunity.

In today's episode, we will talk about the concept of selling, how to leave the fear of sales, and everything related to it, in addition to giving you three tips on sales that you cannot miss.

Learn how to let the sales fear behind and take out that great successful salesperson in you.

EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS.

  • [2:39] Meet Adriana Romero.

Adriana Romero is a Venezuelan woman based in Canada with a 20-year sales career. Founder of Hustle in Heels with her friend Ilia.

  • [5:29] Adriana's sales definition.

Adriana defines sales as match-making between the product and the buyer. It lets us know that building a relationship with customers is an art and science to a successful sale.

  • [9:40] Selling misconceptions.

The image we have of the salespeople is the Hollywood one. The movies make us believe that all salespeople are aggressive people who pressure or lie to achieve their goals. Salespeople aren't that way.

  • [17:57] Adriana's first sales experience

Like many people dedicated to sales, Adriana felt the weight and fear of not achieving successful sales. The day she changed her mindset and was filled with positive thoughts, calm, and success arrived at her door.

  • [22:19] Three tips you should know to achieve sales success.

In this segment, Adriana shares three tips you should know to become a fantastic seller.

Being an immigrant many times is the most difficult decision we can make. Some emigrate for love or for work, and some because of war.

For immigrants, the cultural, social, political, and language differences are some of the challenges to face and overcoming them end up into adaptation. Adaptation is the first process that every immigrant goes through. We adopt new foods, musical styles, words, and even accents.

When I moved out to England, I came up with the false idea that the most important thing to advance in my career was to have the perfect English accent. But instead of being a positive thing, this idea ended up turning my language learning process much slower. It took me away from communicating with people and even my professional and personal dreams. At one point, I started to feel I was losing my essence.

Your accent is not a limitation! and I learned that in the best way. When I left my insecurities behind and decided to open my mouth regardless of what others thought, that's when I discovered that my accent was not a limitation. My accent is my essence, my story, and who I am.

Press play and join this conversation to discover five tips to improve your English without losing your essence and have the best result of it.

EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS

  • [2:18] From working in a bar to success.

In this segment, I will share the story of a woman who, after immigrating, her language turned out to be a barrier to overcome. Now, she works for the best companies worldwide.

  • [6:42] Don't get stuck because of your accent.

The search for acceptance and the fear of making mistakes when speaking another language are roles that play against when looking for work, but don't let your accent be a limitation! Follow your dreams!

  • [11:10] Movies are the best teachers.

That's right! I am not just talking about the accent. I am talking about the pronunciation and the expansion of your vocabulary. Watch a movie, add English subtitles, and take notes!

  • [12:31] Accepting corrections

I know that sometimes accepting a correction can be annoying and even uncomfortable but, it is the best way to learn! You will have the possibility to detect where the mistakes are, listen to the pronunciation and discover how to add those words correctly in your daily conversations.

  • [13:39] Repeat like a parrot.

Repeating every word you don't know will help you improve your pronunciation and not forget them easily.

  • [16:32] Reading books to improve.

Books will help you expand your vocabulary. There are millions of words that we do not know (even in our mother tongue). Books are the best tool to improve our grammar and add an impressive touch to our conversations.

  • [18:01] Describe what you want to say.

We cannot read all the books in one day, nor learn all the words. Sometimes we don't remember the term or the translation, but don't let that stop you! Describe what you want to say.

  • [19:08] Go out and open your mouth.

Practice makes perfect. Leave your fears behind, and you will notice in a short time how English becomes your second language.

  • [21:11] Take action!

To achieve your dreams, you have to take action and go for them. Go to that interview, send that resume, just go!

  • [22:06] Never apologize for your English.

Every day is constant learning. If you make a mistake, correct it and move on. Everyone knows that English is not your first language, but they will always appreciate the effort. You speak two languages, be proud!

In this episode of What the Gut, our guest is Sarah Law. She is a fully qualified nutritional therapist. And since graduating, Sarah has become a specialist in skin health and weight management for women. In 2019, she became an IFBB pro bikini athlete. Her purpose in life is to help women see that ageing can be beautiful, live in harmony with their bodies, and fuel themselves in a way that is no restrictive to private or filled with food fear. Sarah will share some tips on maintaining a healthy body, what types of food you should eat and not eat, and taking care of your weight and body.

The Hub of Health

According to Sarah, the gut is the hub of health. Socrates said that all disease starts in the gut. Mainstream medicine is beginning to understand this and see how important gut health is. It affects everything. The reason is that we have trillions of bacteria in our gut, which are really important. We have more bacteria in our guts than we have human cells in our bodies. It's vital because those gut bacteria help break down food. They produce vitamins and minerals for you.

How we can take care of our Gut

Sarah often says to people, depending on the person. Depending on what they've really got going on, some people may need to take it a step further if they've really got things going on. For most people who just want to start looking after their gut, then the main ones are gluten, dairy, highly refined and processed foods, and get rid of vegetable oils wherever possible. And alcohol or anything that's going to cause damage is probably a good thing to remove.

Creating and Finding Better Alternatives

Sarah is all about helping people find better alternatives. We don't expect people to go and cook everything from scratch all the time, but if you can do it for the majority of the time, then that's going to be the biggest difference. For her, it's about where you can eat as many whole real foods as possible and go back to basics. The keyword is go back to eating real whole food as much as possible. According to Sarah, it doesn't have to be hard, and it doesn't have to mean eating bland food and giving up everything you've ever loved. You start to shift the way you think about things. It's not about deprivation but about finding better alternatives to what you love that isn't serving you.

Resetting the Body and Diet

According to Sarah, the reset is about using the right ones and coupling them in the right way to make sure that everything is in balance. A Reset shouldn't be full of deprivation. When we lead people through the reset, it's not about that at all. It's about teaching people how to make food incredible and tasty and use those things that they would typically deem as the treats how to make better versions of them.
Sarah puts the good stuff in and, and then it's about nourishing, not eating less. She thinks that's the thing that she loves to share with people is it's not about eating less. It's about eating right.
