SEA Adventure: June 01 – Ape CavesCost: No ChargeHere is one of the most unusual hikes available in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest. This cave is actually a lava tube and is one of the longest such in the world at a length of 12,810 feet. It is said that the cave was discovered by members of a youth group known as the St. Helens Apes. Ape was a word referring to the mysterious legendary creature more commonly known as Sasquatch.
The full experience at Ape Cave includes the easy exploration of a spacious lava tube, followed by more difficult travel through a smaller, longer, and more rugged lava tube to an exit. Then, enjoy an easy return hike winding through shady forest and crusty lava formations.

“The Lord’s Sabbath” It is hard to stop. It is hard to be still and know God. Yet, our souls need this more than ever. The next two Sundays in our study in the Gospel of Luke are on the Lord’s sabbath.
A lot of the bible deals with this issue. What is a sabbath? Why is it important? What is the sabbath’s purpose?
These issues are important because we are in exhausting times. Learning to stop for soul rest has never been more needed.

“Welcoming Change” Change is hard! Change can be scary, confusing, and upsetting. We have been going through a season of great change. There is nothing more human than to want things to stay the same or return to how they once were.
But going backward is not possible, and we are changed even by our efforts to fight Change. No matter what, change will happen, not just around us. The big question is what the change will be in you?
Jesus confronted how as people, we manage the changes he brings into our lives and around our lives. The One Change He is always seeking to bring in you even in times of trial is a greater love for one another.

Don’t Live in the Past In times of trouble, we often resist change and retreat into an imagined good-old-days nostalgia. God works all things together for good for those who love him (Romans 8:28). For us to join God, we must live presently in His presence. You can’t live in the past and grow at the same time.

Jesus + Nothing = Everything (Colossians 2)The Sufficiency of Jesus
Difficult times are a part of our human existence here. Anyone who has lived even a short time has experienced disappointment, pain, and difficulty. During these times, we have a tendency to feel that we are weak, empty, and trapped.
I want to remind you that feelings are not facts. And while feelings are often helpful to us as we navigate different situations and circumstances, it is crucial for us to base our response on the facts and not react out of our emotions.
The enemy of our souls wants us to embrace those feelings of helplessness. This is because he knows that, if we trust our feelings, we will look for ways within ourselves to feel empowered, full, and free.
As the apostle Paul was writing to the Colossians, I’m sure he was hoping to correct this tendency the church had to trust their feelings by telling them, clearly, what the facts are. We know the facts because they have been revealed to us in scripture. This week, we’ll look at the reality of the life of the follower of Jesus. We will find hope and renewed determination in knowing just how powerful, full, and free we are as we follow Him.

Relearning Patience How’s your patience?
With all that has been happening, a lot of people’s patience is showing itself pretty thin. Patience is the fruit of the Spirit that God plants in us and then we cooperate in its growth.
We are warned by some “do not pray for patience.” I think this is terrible advice. It assumes God is a sadistic being who will throw all kinds of problems on you just because you sought to reflect an attribute of his love. My friend, patience is a work of grace that you can only grow in as you cling to Christ. In this world, you will have tribulations! It is up to us how we deal with them and if we grow in love or shrink into despair and bitterness.

Radical Forgiveness It is hard to love people when you are angry at them. Since love is our goal, learning to forgive and have our ability to love restored is important.
The Bible says love never fails but if that’s true why do the people we try to love make us so mad? We say, “I am being so loving, and look how I am being treated.” It feels like love fails at such times.
This weekend’s message is on how to stay able to love. This is what church is about. “How to Do Radical Forgiveness” will be the topic.

Relearning church means relearning love. Love is the one thing that is to set us apart from all fakers and frauds.
John 13:34 “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. 35 “By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” Love is hard work. In fact, it could be said that it only becomes love when it gets hard. True love always has selfless sacrifice in its practice.
This Sunday we will be relearning love and how you can restore and increase your love for anyone and everyone.
