We're back! A little later than planned, but here we are... More Retro Reels and Producer Ben's all time favourite, the original 1984 Dune. It's weird. It's ridiculous. And we love it! We're also talking about changes to the schedule, so be sure to listen in and find out what the future holds.

A divided trio heads into the zombie dystopia: one excited, one indifferent, and one actively uninterested. Can it win us over? We're also finishing up on Department Q and looking forward to next week's Retro Reels.
Streaming this week, so we get to catch up on what we missed at the cinema recently - in this case, a blues and folk vampire adventure. We're also talking about Department Q on Netflix and 10 Years with Hayao Miyazaki.
A slow and wordy follow up to 2023's Dead Reckoning, the (alleged) final instalment of the franchise leaves us bored and disappointed. At least Jables loves series 2 of Andor enough to go on and on (and on) about it.
A little late to the party but we're hanging out with the Thunderbolts* this week, which is...err...fine. Our Kid also catches us up on her recent Regency Revival, whilst Jables starts in on series 2 of Andor.
It may be third time we've talked about Hellraiser, but there are still plenty of fresh thoughts to note as we catch it on the big screen for the first time.
It's Purge Week in King's Lynn (also known as the school holidays), so we're staying in to watch something that's been on our watchlist for a while. Also Our Kid is catching up on The Outrun and Producer Ben is taking us back to the 90s with Event Horizon.
A game of Statham Bingo ensues this week to ensure A Working Man hits all the right beats (it does!). We're also talking about Alan Moore's The Show and looking forward to Retro Reels Hellraiser.
A slow burn spy thriller that's not quite as action packed as the trailer suggests, but may be the better for it. Plus Producer Ben finally gets his hands on Bram Stoker's Dracula.
Just No Jables this week as we head to the Corn Exchange for a dose of 80s feelgood fantasy.
Despite being a bit too long and a bit too bloated, we quite enjoyed this week's offering. We're also talking about Series 3 of Reacher (so far), British indie-horror Stop Motion and revisiting last year's Civil War.
We're streaming again this week and Jables finally learns how it all got so quiet. We're also taking about the Oscars 2025 and, if you're a Jerry Maguire fan, Our Kid would like to know why.
Can comedy and horror co-exist in a smart indie film that says something about the nature of life and death, or will it always just be schlock? We can't quite agree this week. We've also finally got round to watching Conclave but Jables wishes he'd missed out on You're Cordially Invited.
A likeable cast can't save this messy multi-sequel, but at least Producer Ben was spared. We're also talking about Elevation and Your Monster on Amazon Prime and Jables finally gets round to watching Gladiator 2.
There's a slight retro-ness to this week as we review what we missed in the recent past with Twisters, Venom: The Last Dance and finishing the latest season of Strike. But we do have one eye to the future with trailers for the new Fantastic Four: First Steps and Thunderbolts*.
A slow burn ghost story that's probably not for everyone, this week's choice is a good counterpoint to last week's Retro Reels. We're also comparing music biopics with Better Man and Back to Black.
We're back in the light for another 80s classic, probably the first horror film we ever saw - though it's much funnier and more heartfelt than we remember.
An enjoyable throwback to last year that makes up in visuals what it lacks in narrative subtlety. Also enjoying our latest DVD purchases and reviewing the new series of From.
We're back, and so is the classic vampire flick! We're also looking back over our festive wish lists to review our Christmas viewing and Producer Ben is going old-school British drama with Smiley's People.

A theological game of cat and mouse divides the team and leads Jables to a couple of rants. Which is worse - talking in the cinema or misplaying classic songs?
With Our Kid and Producer Ben off on their Halloween holidays, Jables has roped in Barney for a film that might even be too scary for Jables. Also Barney is catching up on True Detective and Jables resuscitates Bubba Ho-Tep.
That's what we want to see, a nice big smile! Mixed views on this week's horror sequel, though there's no doubting it's a well acted, beautiful spectacle. We're also talking about series 2 of The Devil's Hour and Netflix' It's What's Inside.

What do you get when you take a quietly powerful, successful film about a tragic descent into chaos, strip it of plot, character, and empathy, and replace it with a few lacklustre musical numbers? A tragedy for all the wrong reasons.
While we can see all the flaws, this latest attempt to reboot the lovable Hellspawn is really a good B-movie horror that would benefit from better marketing. We're also talking about the BBC comedy Ludwig, plus this week's 'DVD from a charity shop' is In the Name of the King (which no amount of good marketing could have saved!).
The snarky hosting and terrible artwork can mean only one thing - it's time for the third annual Jables Awards! Join us as we discuss the highs and lows of the past year in cinema.
It's showtime! Back to Corn Exchange for the original and best, because there's just so much to love about the disgusting Ghost with the Most.
Not nearly as fun or exciting as we needed it to be, the sequel to the 80s classic falls decidedly flat. Fortunately we're looking forward to the original Beetlejuice for Retro Reels next week, as well as hitting the 70s with Harold and Maude and discovering Kaos on Netflix.
A little late to the party this week as we get to the latest film in the sci-fi horror franchise. Not a surprise party, though... Jables is also reliving his time in The Village through 60s series The Prisoner and we're looking forward to the original Beetlejuice for Retro Reels.
Just No Jables again this week so we're bearing Longlegs in mind to choose something from the writer/director's back catalogue. Also Day of the Jackal and One Life.
In a change to this week's plan, we've gone for the Arthouse option at the Corn Exchange. We're also talking about Arcadian and series 4 of Emily in Paris.

We're getting serious this week with a fantastically emotional British drama. Jables is also finishing up season 2 of Reacher whilst Our Kid wonders if The Art of Racing in the Rain might have been better suited to Channel 5.
Producer Ben's favourite action star is back on another quest for vengeance, this time making smug millennials pay for their bad deeds and crimes against fashion. We're also enjoying Japanese time travel with Beyond the Infinite 2 Minutes and Jables can't quite believe the monstrosity that is Sharktopus.
Well acted but strangely superficial, we know no more about Enzo Ferrari by the end than we did at the start. Meanwhile Jables takes on season 2 of What If..?, Producer Ben gets animated with The Boy and the Heron and Our Kid struggles through Fool Me Once.
Our first week back of the new year and we're heading to the Corn Exchange for a blast of 80s horror. Join the Jable team, a creepy dog and Kurt Russell's hair as we revisit this eye-popping classic.

A definite contender for film of the year, this week's offering restores our faith in epic storytelling. Meanwhile Producer Ben is going retro with The One, Jables digs up Bodies on Netflix and Our Kid falls for The House of Usher.
Is Willy Wonka a psychopath? It's a question Jables and Our Kid can't agree on, though they can agree on the fun warmth of the new prequel. Also Producer Ben is back with another 'DVD from a charity shop', though he may have finally hit the bottom of the bargain bin.
As Producer Ben calls in sick this week, Jables and Our Kid are back to the streaming to see if a killer idea can hold out for an entire film. Jables is also (still) raving about Invincible Season 2 while Our Kid channels her inner tween for Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret.
Jables attempts a poker face this week as he goes in for a second viewing of Ridley Scott's historical epic. We're also talking about Anatomy of a Fall and Ben's 'DVD from a charity shop' segment continues to impress.
A lot of love in the room for this week's low-key hit on streaming - could we finally be getting out of the 'fine' doldrums? Plus Producer Ben continues his own winning 'DVD from a charity shop' segment and Jables gives us a mini-review of The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. And we're back to 'fine'...

Fancy listening to three people talk on and on about their favourite horror film? Then you've come to the right place! It's Our Kid's birthday, which means only one thing - classic horror.
Is there a worse verdict than 'it was fine'? This week's film neither adds to nor takes away from the genre and does little to offend any but the most ardent fans of the original classic. At least there's fun to be had with our side viewings of Ballerina and Lupin Part 3, plus Jables looks back on Ahsoka.
We're heading back to the Corn Exchange this week for everybody's favourite tale of time travel and weird family shenanigans. Join us for a fun filled ride, because if you put your mind to it, you can accomplish anything.
Whilst we can agree on the joy of watching a film with stunning visuals that's not connected to an existing franchise, we can't decide whether this is flawed brilliance or derivative nonsense. Jables is also catching up on A Haunting in Venice and we're going old school British comedy with Dad's Army.
We're back, and so are Sister Irene and her creepy nemesis! Speaking of solidly spooky films, Our Kid and Producer Ben snuck out to watch A Haunting in Venice whilst Jables wasn't looking. We're also going back to the seventies with The Mechanic (original version) and shamelessly plugging the next instalment of Retro Reels.
Ahead of the game this week as we hit The Majestic for a preview of the final part of the avenger next door trilogy. Jables is also kicking off viewing of Ahsoka while Our Kid keeps it retro with a weekend viewing of 80s classic Beaches.
Derivative but not terrible, Blue Beetle would have entertained 10-year old Jables but doesn't do much for the grown ups - aiming at the wrong market, perhaps? We're also talking Heart of Stone and revisiting The Pale Blue Eye on Netflix.
Hot on the trail of the original killer shark comes something much less original. Is it any good? Not really. Did we enjoy it anyway? Depends who you ask. We're also talking about Mandy Moore(s) and Producer Ben waxes lyrical about Police Squad.
The original summer blockbuster, Jaws remains one of the Jables team's favourite movies. Join us as we get stuck into why this monster hit is such a classic.
Jables gets a bit ranty this week as we close off Barbenheimer and somehow make the need for a mini-fridge our main takeaway. We're also going on (and on) about Good Omens season 2.
Mixed feelings about this week's epic biopic, a brilliant character study lacking in emotional heft. We're also talking They Cloned Tyrone and Watchmen: Ultimate Cut.
After last week's overuse of CGI we're enjoying more physical action with MI7, though Jables does get a little too geeky about source code. We're also keeping it real with Days of the Bagnold Summer and Our Kid is celebrating the arrival of Series 3 of Nora from Queens on iPlayer.
Does having low expectations help when approaching a non-awaited instalment of a much-loved franchise? Probably not, as Jables finds out twice this week. At least Producer Ben is keeping it 80s with the surprisingly endearing Outrageous Fortune and Our Kid finally catches up with Staged 3.
Jables hasn't stopped banging on about the new season of Black Mirror, so with nothing grabbing us on the big screen this week we're settling in for a viewing of the fabulous finale. We're also catching up on what we watched over Glastonbury weekend and the first episode of Secret Invasion, plus Producer Ben has way too much to say about Braven.
After hiding under a rock for a while we've managed to avoid spoilers and come out pleasantly surprised by The Flash. We're also talking new TV in Deadloch and old movies with Space Cowboys and The Lost King.
The latest instalment of the giant robot franchise limps into play with a 90s period retcon and we're nostalgic for the 2007 beginning - where did all the decent humour go? Thankfully we've rediscovered the 60s TV series The Prisoner to remind us how good TV can be, plus Our Kid is bringing things right back down to Earth with Aftersun.
We're hanging out with Jables' favourite superhero this week, as well as answering a listener question about cars in films and talking about one of our very favourite things - the Airbnb DVD collection.
Jables is back from his holidays just in time to pick lots of holes in Fast X - are we expecting too much, or has it gone beyond silly fun now? Also we plan out the next couple of Retro Reels and Jables introduces us to Poker Face.

No film this week but we're looking forward to what's coming up as of episode 100's soft reboot of the Just So Jables Film Podcast. We're also talking about otter restaurants and where Bananaman lives - you wouldn't want to miss it!
Proving that you can enjoy something whilst simultaneously thinking it's not very good, this week's film doesn't quite get beyond the weight of its casting (though we have to ask whether it needs to!). Jables also revisits The Batman and Nobody whilst Producer Ben gets nostalgic From Up on Poppy Hill and Our Kid hits a more serious tone with Hive.
It may hit all the familiar exorcism beats, but this week's film is definitely more fun that we were expecting. At least its something new as Our Kid and Producer Ben seem to be relying on comfort telly with old episodes of Elementary and Frasier, whilst Jables has Beef.
Whilst we mostly agree on the fun to be had this week, there are mixed views on the latest D&D film. Also Our Kid relives the 90s with Pretty Woman and Jables finally catches us up on The Last of Us.
We're heading down to the Goon Docks this week for a crazy adventure in search of pirate treasure, so throw on your slick shoes and get your ass down here - because down here, it’s our time!
Finally, a new release that actually brings us joy! The latest John Wick installment is bold, funny and a visual delight (as well as utterly ridiculous!). We're also talking The Night Agent, Unforgotten 5 and feeling less celebratory about Allelujah.
More disappointment this week as the Shazam! follow up fails to hit the funny and heartwarming highs of the original. We're also talking about Luther: The Fallen Sun and both versions of What's Love Got to Do with It?
The B-movie style charm of this week's film divides the team, with Producer Ben (AKA Spirograph) feeling much less forgiving than Jables and Our Kid. We're also talking about Mrs Harris Goes To Paris, Ghosts US and Jables fills us in on this year's Oscar action.
More misses than hits this week as our disappointing run of current films continues. We're also talking about We Have a Ghost on Netflix and it turns out Producer Ben is a Spirograph - who knew?

The latest Marvel offering lacks the warmth and charm of the previous Ant-Man films, leaving us wondering if it's an Ant-Man film at all or a weak episode of Rick and Morty. We're also talking about the US version of our beloved series Ghosts and Producer Ben goes old school gangster with We Still Kill the Old Way.
Not much on this week so we're Chez Jables with a 'vintage' DVD. We're also talking Superbowl trailers for The Flash, Guardians 3, The Three Musketeers and 65, plus Producer Ben convinces Jables to watch Greenland.
A great cast can't save this week's feature from its stupid premise. At least Jables is enjoyed Lockwood and Co and we're are also talking about the upcoming showing of The Terminator with Retro Reels.
It's a meeting of the Gerard Butler Appreciation Society this week as Plane has us talking all things Gerry B. Plus Producer Ben keeps trying to decide what he thinks of stop-motion epic Mad God and Jables finally gets around to Empire of Light.
Retro Reels is here again and this time we're hanging out in 1984 with Gizmo, Billy and those little green fiends. Never has the destruction of a small town been so much fun!

With not much on at the big screen for us this week we've hit the streaming and found the surprisingly enjoyable Hellraiser reboot. Our Kid and Producer Ben also discuss their second viewing of Violent Night and Jables gets an email from Stripe the Gremlin.
We're having a right laugh this week when Violent Night brings all the festive carnage we didn't know we needed so much. We're also talking about Wednesday, Troll and the trailer for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, but it's really all about the blood-soaked Man with the Bag.
A hard hitting dramatization of a famous New York Times investigation leaves us better informed, but with the realization that a serious film about the film industry is pretty difficult to get right. Also, Our Kid gets Disenchanted and Jables sends us off to Slumberland.
It's all about metaphors this week as we delve into the world of haute cuisine with a sinister twist. Producer Ben also manages to cancel himself and educate us about what the goings on at Disney might mean for future viewing.
Messy and convoluted, the latest Marvel offering leaves us feeling sad for all the wrong reasons, though Producer Ben substituting his weekly car moment for a one time M'Baku moment is something to look forward to.
We're hitting Zoom this week as Our Kid and Producer Ben give up an hour of their holiday to enjoy this special Marvel creature feature, as well as talking about Decision to Leave, Enola Holmes 2 and The Devil's Hour.
The first film of our new Retro Reels project has come around, and what better way to kick off than with a screening of 80s classic The Lost Boys? Released early this week as a Halloween special, we're talking vampires, fun and crazy fashion - if only they still made films this good!

Jables has a bit of a rant about this week's highly anticipated thriller, which sadly proves our theory that a film with potential can often be more disappointing than a film that's just rubbish. At least Our Kid has season 4 of Ghosts to be happy about.

Sadly The Lost City is the latest contender for this year's Most Disappointing Film at the upcoming Jables Awards (more on that soon!). At least the Bank Holiday has given us time to catch up with Indiana Jones, James Bond and Zorro, as well as getting us back to the desert with Duel, though Producer Ben would rather forget about The Phantom of the Opera.

We can't help but compare Kenneth Branagh's new adaptation to the superior 1978 version and there's a mixed response in the JSJ team. Plus we're talking about The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window, Blumhouse's Fantasy Island and, finally, The Book of Boba Fett.
Jables has been laid up this week so there's a lot of streaming to talk about (Reacher, The Hunt, Mother Android and Jurassic Park retrospective) - which is a relief as we struggle to find good things to say about Uncharted. At least there's the Star Wars quote quiz to look forward to!

Our Kid and Producer Ben call in from their holiday this week, so we're enjoying this quirky comedy based on the multiplayer VR game - Knives Out meets Northern Exposure! Also, Jables gets unexpectedly evangelical about the Beatles documentary Get Back! on Disney+ and we're finally getting back into The Book of Boba Fett.

Fortunately Our Kid and Producer Ben are on hand to hold the fort, even if that means a wander through the two distinct halves of Nightmare Alley. Also, Our Kid has finally got round to watching What If..? in a week of cheesy 90s mysteries and Producer Ben gets the chance to talk about Harry's Garage on YouTube.
Racking up a new entry in yet another pre-existing universe, the new Scream film is a flat point. In streaming, Jables is enjoying Cheer and Afterlife on Netflix, Producer Ben's keeps the highbrow vibe going with Pavarotti and And Just Like That doesn't get any better for Our Kid. We also find ourselves asking the question: would you go out with someone who doesn't appreciate Teen Wolf?
This energetic prequel makes up for some of the horrors of Kingsman: The Golden Circle, though isn't without it's cringey moments. In the world of streaming, Jables keeps it highbrow with Jackie and Our Kid has become obsessed with reruns of Elementary on Prime, allowing Producer Ben to sneak off and watch Wrath of Man and The Gentlemen. Plus initial thoughts on The Book of Boba Fett and Netflix's Sandman teaser.
We see in 2022 with the latest Matrix installment...or do we? Yes, we do, but may well wish we didn't! Plus thoughts on our festive viewing including Hawkeye, Don't Look Up and Encounter, and Jables tips Riz Ahmed as the next James Bond - you heard it here first!

We're faring better on Netflix with Gemini Man, Kate, Nightbooks and the Schumacher documentary, plus catching up on Only Murders in the Building and trailers for Halloween Kills and Finch.
Alexis Louder deserves top billing as the rookie cop dealing with two wacky hitmen and a con-artist in this Tarantino-style action thriller. On the Jables scale, it's a John Wick 2! Also the Aretha Franklin biopic Respect and Our Kid and Producer Ben making it all the way through The Ghost of Winifred Meeks.
We're back to all things Marvel this week, though this latest mega-installment doesn't feel too Marvel, which might explain its universal appeal within the JSJ team. Plus, could Producer Ben be warming to the new Dune trailer?
