Analyzing Abstracts: Recent Episodes

Luke Pagcatipunan

Analyzing Abstracts is a podcast where me and my friends talk. That's it! I set up a topic for us to talk about, share opinions and facts, and at the end we summarize our opinions and facts. Topics could be anything under the sun. Hosted by Luke Pagcatipunan, an artist and designer in the Philippines. Feel free to message me on instagram '@lukepagca', or send me an email at 'lukepagca@gmail.com'. In the season finale of Analyzing Abstracts we go pretentious. My friend Patti and I talk about Sondheim musicals and what makes them. How are they different? How are they unique? What is so special about them? Did we watch all of his musicals before recording this? No, but I think watching at least four and researching and listening to snippets of some is enough to fill an episode. As Little Red Riding Hood said, the woods are just trees, the trees are just wood. Yes.

I'm gonna make you an offer you can't refuse. The stuff that dreams are made of. Movie quotes. Why do we have them? Why does the concept of quotable exist? Why is Gamora? Who knows. Nobody puts Baby in a corner, or my friend Krissie because we talk about movie quotes in this episode. Now bring out your fava beans and Chianti while you listen to our banter on this subject matter. You can't handle the truth! So fasten your seat belts because it's gonna be a bumpy ride.

No! Don't walk away! I know you read the word Pokémon and thought of skipping this episode but hear me out! My friend Dani and I talk about what makes Pokémon different from other RPGs and even other games. I know this sounds boring if you know nothing about it but I hope this will make you at least curious about these Pocket Monsters. Don't go. Please.

As I was once a young whippersnapper, I watched them moving drawings on the box that lights up. Looking back at those cartoons as an "adult" however, what has changed? For me, someone who grew up tainting my little child mind with those cartoons, what will I gain by rewatching them? My friend Kat and I talk about that as we enter a world of bending the elements and rich spies saving the world. Did these cartoons affect me? Definitely. For the good of mankind? We find out.

Don't you just sometimes want to burst into song? I don't, except maybe in the shower. In musical films however, that's basically what everyone in it does. Now what if that film was adapted from a stage musical? Will it capture what the stage musical is all about or just copy what they think they should copy? My friend Pat and I talk about what we think are the ways to adapt a stage musical into film and make it great. Now let's all go to the Jellicle Ball after this. Meow.

People think we play video games because we don't have any friends, but you are wrong! We can get friends online! First I have to find a good and replayable multiplayer game though. So even if I don't find any friends at least I know I'll be having fun. My friend Diero can attest to that in this episode. Find out why you have to open this link (https://youtu.be/Bv4CqIxqTMA) by listening to the episode.

Board games! You might play them, you might not. How to get people to play them? Well, other than forcing it down their throats you can just find the perfect game to use to introduce them to the hobby. My friend Willo and I talk how to find the right introductory game for your new gaming buddies.

Music to my ears! The musician said when you tell them you listened to their full album. My friend Jigo and I fanboy on our personal favorite albums to listen to from start to end and try to understand why some people may not be listening to full albums. Listen to us try to describe music without music.
