Hey! Welcome! This is a podcast that’s all about reading scripture and remembering it! One of the biggest thing that keeps us stuck is forgetfulness. What would it look like if we not only read the word of God, but slowed down, listened, and remembered what He said? I’d love for you to join on this journey! -Abbie
Psalm 86:12 | Praise Forever. Today we talk about the different ways we praise, and how Psalm 86 is a Psalm of lament. We lament by: Turning to God, Telling God what’s going on (all our complaints), Turn to Trust. We can complain and come to God fully knowing that He cares. And we come with confidence in His character, knowing that he remains worthy of all praise.
Psalm 86:6 Lord, you are so good, so ready to forgive, so full of unfailing love for all who ask for your help.
Today we are focusing on Psalms 86:4 and talking about where we put our trust. We trust things every day. But is it the Lord? Is the Lord, the one we are trusting for our joy today?
Psalm 86:3 “Have mercy on me God, for I call to you all day long” Remember, you have permission to call!
“Guard my life” Psalms 86:2. Today, we invite you to grab your Bible, grab your journal, and ask God what it is you need to receive, what you need to remember, and how you need to respond! Follow @letsrememberthispodcast for more resources
Join us for a bonus episode as we hear from Pastor Chris Griffith on finding rhythm in life.
Today we get to chat with my good friend Grace. Grace is a pastor, teacher, and leader. We talk about the themes in Mark, the intentionality of his writings, and the mysterious ending!
“After Jesus rose from the dead early on Sunday morning, the first person who saw him was Mary Magdalene, the woman from whom he had cast out seven demons.”Mark 16:9 NLT
“Saturday evening, when the Sabbath ended, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome went out and purchased burial spices so they could anoint Jesus’ body. Very early on Sunday morning, just at sunrise, they went to the tomb. On the way they were asking each other, “Who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance to the tomb?” But as they arrived, they looked up and saw that the stone, which was very large, had already been rolled aside. When they entered the tomb, they saw a young man clothed in a white robe sitting on the right side. The women were shocked, but the angel said, “Don’t be alarmed. You are looking for Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He isn’t here! He is risen from the dead! Look, this is where they laid his body. Now go and tell his disciples, including Peter, that Jesus is going ahead of you to Galilee. You will see him there, just as he told you before he died.” The women fled from the tomb, trembling and bewildered, and they said nothing to anyone because they were too frightened. ---------- [The most ancient manuscripts of Mark conclude with verse 16:8. Later manuscripts add one or both of the following endings.] [Shorter Ending of Mark] Then they briefly reported all this to Peter and his companions. Afterward Jesus himself sent them out from east to west with the sacred and unfailing message of salvation that gives eternal life. Amen.
“And immediately the rooster crowed the second time. Suddenly, Jesus’ words flashed through Peter’s mind: “Before the rooster crows twice, you will deny three times that you even know me.” And he broke down and wept.”Mark 14:72 NLT
“Jesus said, “I Am. And you will see the Son of Man seated in the place of power at God’s right hand and coming on the clouds of heaven.””Mark 14:62 NLT
“As they were eating, Jesus took some bread and blessed it. Then he broke it in pieces and gave it to the disciples, saying, “Take it, for this is my body.” And he took a cup of wine and gave thanks to God for it. He gave it to them, and they all drank from it. And he said to them, “This is my blood, which confirms the covenant between God and his people. It is poured out as a sacrifice for many. I tell you the truth, I will not drink wine again until the day I drink it new in the Kingdom of God.” Then they sang a hymn and went out to the Mount of Olives.”Mark 14:22-26 NLT
“It was now two days before Passover and the Festival of Unleavened Bread. The leading priests and the teachers of religious law were still looking for an opportunity to capture Jesus secretly and kill him. “But not during the Passover celebration,” they agreed, “or the people may riot.” Meanwhile, Jesus was in Bethany at the home of Simon, a man who had previously had leprosy. While he was eating, a woman came in with a beautiful alabaster jar of expensive perfume made from essence of nard. She broke open the jar and poured the perfume over his head. Some of those at the table were indignant. “Why waste such expensive perfume?” they asked. “It could have been sold for a year’s wages and the money given to the poor!” So they scolded her harshly. But Jesus replied, “Leave her alone. Why criticize her for doing such a good thing to me? You will always have the poor among you, and you can help them whenever you want to. But you will not always have me. She has done what she could and has anointed my body for burial ahead of time. I tell you the truth, wherever the Good News is preached throughout the world, this woman’s deed will be remembered and discussed.””Mark 14:1-9 NLT
“Don’t let him find you sleeping when he arrives without warning. I say to you what I say to everyone: Watch for him!””Mark 13:36-37 NLT
“Jesus sat down near the collection box in the Temple and watched as the crowds dropped in their money. Many rich people put in large amounts. Jesus called his disciples to him and said, “I tell you the truth, this poor widow has given more than all the others who are making contributions. For they gave a tiny part of their surplus, but she, poor as she is, has given everything she had to live on.””Mark 12:41, 43-44 NLT
“As Jesus and his disciples approached Jerusalem, they came to the towns of Bethphage and Bethany on the Mount of Olives. Jesus sent two of them on ahead. “Go into that village over there,” he told them. “As soon as you enter it, you will see a young donkey tied there that no one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here. If anyone asks, ‘What are you doing?’ just say, ‘The Lord needs it and will return it soon.’””Mark 11:1-3 NLT
““What do you want me to do for you?” Jesus asked. “My Rabbi,” the blind man said, “I want to see!” And Jesus said to him, “Go, for your faith has healed you.” Instantly the man could see, and he followed Jesus down the road.”Mark 10:51-52
“Looking at the man, Jesus felt genuine love for him. “There is still one thing you haven’t done,” he told him. “Go and sell all your possessions and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.””Mark 10:21 NLT
““Anyone who welcomes a little child like this on my behalf welcomes me, and anyone who welcomes me welcomes not only me but also my Father who sent me.””Mark 9:37 NLT
“Then, calling the crowd to join his disciples, he said, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross, and follow me. If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake and for the sake of the Good News, you will save it.”Mark 8:34-35 NLT
“When the Pharisees heard that Jesus had arrived, they came and started to argue with him. Testing him, they demanded that he show them a miraculous sign from heaven to prove his authority. When he heard this, he sighed deeply in his spirit and said, “Why do these people keep demanding a miraculous sign? I tell you the truth, I will not give this generation any such sign.” So he got back into the boat and left them, and he crossed to the other side of the lake.”Mark 8:11-13 NLT
“They were completely amazed and said again and again, “Everything he does is wonderful. He even makes the deaf to hear and gives speech to those who cannot speak.””Mark 7:37 NLT
“Jesus took the five loaves and two fish, looked up toward heaven, and blessed them. Then, breaking the loaves into pieces, he kept giving the bread to the disciples so they could distribute it to the people. He also divided the fish for everyone to share. They all ate as much as they wanted, and afterward, the disciples picked up twelve baskets of leftover bread and fish. A total of 5,000 men and their families were fed.”Mark 6:41-44 NLT
“And he was amazed at their unbelief. Then Jesus went from village to village, teaching the people. And he called his twelve disciples together and began sending them out two by two, giving them authority to cast out evil spirits. He told them to take nothing for their journey except a walking stick—no food, no traveler’s bag, no money. He allowed them to wear sandals but not to take a change of clothes. “Wherever you go,” he said, “stay in the same house until you leave town. But if any place refuses to welcome you or listen to you, shake its dust from your feet as you leave to show that you have abandoned those people to their fate.” So the disciples went out, telling everyone they met to repent of their sins and turn to God. And they cast out many demons and healed many sick people, anointing them with olive oil.”Mark 6:6-13 NLT
Today we’re hearing from my friend Ali! You are sure to be blessed. To engage with the scripture even more, grab a copy of the Let’s Remember This journal at goabbie.com. For she thought to herself, “If I can just touch his robe, I will be healed”. Immediately the bleeding stopped, and she could feel in her body that she had been healed of her terrible condition.
“A crowd soon gathered around Jesus, and they saw the man who had been possessed by the legion of demons. He was sitting there fully clothed and perfectly sane, and they were all afraid. Then those who had seen what happened told the others about the demon-possessed man and the pigs. And the crowd began pleading with Jesus to go away and leave them alone.”Mark 5:15-17 NLT
“Then Jesus asked them, “Would anyone light a lamp and then put it under a basket or under a bed? Of course not! A lamp is placed on a stand, where its light will shine. For everything that is hidden will eventually be brought into the open, and every secret will be brought to light. Anyone with ears to hear should listen and understand.” Then he added, “Pay close attention to what you hear. The closer you listen, the more understanding you will be given—and you will receive even more. To those who listen to my teaching, more understanding will be given. But for those who are not listening, even what little understanding they have will be taken away from them.””Mark 4:21-25 NLT
Sabbath is one of the greatest gifts we have. Yet with sabbath comes the temptation to let it rule over us. To forget that sabbath was made for man, not man for the sabbath. We practice sabbath and rest not because we’re required too, but because we were created too. We were created from rest, for rest. When we rest we are reminding our flesh of who we are and who we belong too.
Today we ready about Jesus healing the paralytic man and calling Levi to be His disciple. Both of them respond by jumping up, and standing up. Jesus invited them, and they chose to respond. They experienced healing and new life after they responded in faith. How will you respond to the invitations of Jesus today?
In todays stories we read of the miracles of Jesus. The healings, and the restoration. Jesus left people better than He found them! Will you?
Welcome to season 2. For the next few weeks we will be in the book of Mark. To help us dive even deeper, we’re releasing a scripture journal and devotional to follow along with this season.
