The Altared Podcast

Altared is a Biblical podcast designed to be a place where we honor God and the things He does. It was born out of phone conversations a friend and I were having daily about theology and various Bible topics. One day we laughed as one of us exclaimed that we should be recording these conversations and the rest is history. We will therefore be talking about the Bible and doing our best to work out Biblical ideas to the best of our abilities, while also honoring what God has done in our lives, and the lives of others. We're starting a new series!  We are going to be talking about the "Solas" of salvation.  Now, I know what you're thinking: "what on Earth is a "Sola of salvation?" Don't panic.  It's just a framework, created by the original Protestant Reformers, to explain the theology of salvation for people.  The word Sola just means "sole" or "alone," so each week we will be talking about one of five concepts.  Think of it this way: we are saved by Grace Alone (#1), through Faith Alone (#2), in Christ Alone (#3), for the Glory of God Alone (#4), under the authority of Scripture Alone (#5).  It's cool stuff, and if you've ever wanted to understand a little more about how we are saved, make sure you check out these episodes because that's what we are diving into.  This episode covers the first Sola, aka Sola Gratia, the concept that we are saved by Grace Alone.  Come check it out, and as always, listen all the way to the end for "Hunter's Random Question."--- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/appSupport this podcast: https://anchor.fm/thealtaredpodcast/support

Have you ever wondered what the metrics of success for the christian life are?  It's not how many people attend your church, it's not how many miracles you perform, and it definitely has nothing to do with how many cool christian t-shirts are in your closet.  Jesus says, in Matthew 28, that we are to go into all the world and make disciples.  How do you do that though?  That's what we are talking through today.

Merry Christmas!!! This is our first episode of the Christmas season, and we are talking about traditions. This episode was inspired by questions we are often asked as pastors about Christmas trees and their potential origins in paganism, and so we felt it was important to address this. We also talk about Santa, so parents might want to be cautious about listening to this episode with your kids. Like we did with our halloween episode, we felt it important to talk about the origins of several things we see during this holiday, while offering our thoughts on how best to honor God in it all. Check out our new intro, and listen all the way to the end for "Bust out your Bibles with Ben." We also may have thrown in a funny outro, so we hope you enjoy this episode as much as we did making it. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/appSupport this podcast: https://anchor.fm/thealtaredpodcast/support

In this episode we interview Alex Kennedy; a missionary called to minister to the homeless population of Louisville.  We had so much fun recording these episodes with Alex and the content he provided was simply amazing.  In this episode, we ask him about his life and ministry and tell some funny stories. Check it out, and be excited for part 2 where he talks about evangelism and spreading the gospel throughout Louisville!

**On a side note, we had some technical difficulties on this one and lost a part of the beginning audio.  A big shout out to Hunter and his editing skills though, as he was able to recover all but the first few minutes of the audio, and all the rest of the content is still there.

This week we discuss how God works in the interruptions of life.  We had announced last week that this episode was supposed to have a special guest and be about worship.  As it turns out, we were unable to have our guest on due to illness, yet as we discussed what we were going to talk about instead, this theme kept coming back up.  In Proverbs 19:21-23 the Bible says "Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand."

In this episode, we will be looking at that theme as it relates to the calling of the apostle, Matthew.  He was a tax collector who had wealth, influence, and comfort.  God interrupts his life however, and uses Matthew in much bigger way.  Though Matthew loses much of what he had, God replaces those things with something that was so much greater; something he would ultimately give his life for.

Tune in today to hear more about this story, and how God wants to work in the interruptions of your life as well.

In this episode, we are talking temptation; specifically resisting temptation.  Many people today think that your temptations are your true self trying to come out, and so if you deny your temptations, you deny your true self.  The Bible teaches otherwise and so in this episode we discuss why we should resist temptation and what the Bible says about how to do that effectively according to the book of Ephesians.  Make sure you listen all the way to the end for another installment of "Hunter's Random Question."
