Christians have one job, and our one job is the same as Jesus’ one job, echoed in Luke 19:10 - to seek and save the lost. We find that Jesus came to find people and once found, found people find people.

The one we follow, the greatest person in the room, the greatest person in the world stooped to serve and he calls us to follow his example and explained that if we would serve others like he served us, we would be blessed.

Far too often, it’s easy for us to slip into the mindset that church is something I go to. Church is something I help out with. It’s easy for us to forget that church is actually a movement that I’m a part of and this is a movement with a mission to see people meet Jesus and journey with him. It’s effortless for us to sink into an attitude of thinking the church simply exists to serve my needs as opposed to understanding that I’m a part of the church to meet the needs of others, namely the need people have to meet Jesus.

Being married to someone isn’t about what they can do for you...it’s about what you can do for them. When you marry someone you sign up to put them before you on a daily basis. You continually put yourself last to make sure they are propped up not because of what they do for you...but because of who they are. They are your missing piece. They are the help that pushes against you to make you better on the other side.

When building our faith, we need something solid to build it upon so we build upon Jesus - not on the faith of our jobs, our families, or money, because those things are worldly and temporary, but Jesus is solid and strong. He is eternal. He is the foundation where we put all of our faith and trust.

So often we find ourselves coming up short in life, having a vision for where we could be, should be, hope to be, desire to be, but we aren’t there. Why? There are obstacles, blocks in our path to get there and most of the time we are the one’s who place them there. We sabotage ourselves! #BASIC7 is designed to help us remove those obstacles and discover the more we were made for.

Throughout this series, we're examining the three questions from the song "Do You Hear What I Hear." Those three questions are, "Do you See What I See?" "Do You Hear What I Hear?" "Do You Know What I Know?" We will find where we see these three questions in the Christmas story, but more importantly than that, we’re going to see how the answers to these three questions have the potential to forever change our own story.

As people, we default to the path of least resistance. We cling to comfort, not because it’s what we desire most in our lives, but because it’s easy and when we do this, we settle for less than God’s best. The truth is, the life we long for, the more we were made for is found in the challenge. The results are in the resistance. It’s when we take the step, venture out, do the hard thing, embrace boldness that what we want and who we want to be becomes our reality, and sometimes that reality isn’t reality right now which is why we choose to be circle makers, drawing a circle around the thing we need, the thing we desire, the thing we long for, but be warned, as we begin this adventure, the practice of being a circle maker is a practice that requires effort and discomfort, but it’s a discomfort that get us where we long to be.

There is a very real Ghost who either lives in you or desires to live in you and the question we need to answer is whether he has taken up residence in us or not, because the answer to this question impacts not just our eternity, but our life here and now.

Men, what if you were a man who was confident, secure, intentional, and on mission, not just drifting through life? A man who is trained, prepared, and knows what to do when something is put before him; a man who doesn’t lock up and freeze up and resort to inaction. A man who knows how to love, provide, protect, sacrifice, and do whatever needs to be done so that those entrusted to him thrive and flourish under his leadership, care, encouragement, and protection.

There are two deals on the table, and because being a man like that seems really hard, really tough, really difficult, what we often do is we pick up this deal where we say, “I’ll just change what it means to be a man. I’ll just redefine it.” We dumb it down and blame everyone else for why we can’t step into our strength. "It’s my dad’s fault. It’s my mom’s fault. It’s society’s fault. It’s my ex’s fault. It’s my past’s fault.” We have all kinds of people and things to blame as to why we can’t be that definition of a man and then we become passive and we let someone else tell us what it means to be a man, someone else tells us how to run our life, someone else tells us how to raise our kids. We just abdicate responsibility.

But what if we take a breath, and say, “Ok. I’m going to go for it. I’m going to engage instead of lie down. I’m going to rise up instead of stay seated. I’m going to go on this journey to redefine what it means to be a man based on the Operator’s Manual which is God’s Word, because when men start moving closer to who and what God designed us to be and is still calling us to be now, everyone wins. Women, children, men, everyone wins, and this is what it means to cross The Thin Red Line.

It can be uncomfortable, but growth is rarely comfortable. We have to engage and be present and zoom calls just don't cut it.

It's good for men to be men - real, strong, brave, loving, wise, secure men. The problem most men have in living as men is we didn't have great models of what a man looks and lives like, taking our cues from tyrant men or weak men. The most dangerous, detrimental, diminishing word in all the English language is 1 word with 3 syllables - Tomorrow. It's because we so often say "Tomorrow" about things we could do today that we end up living with things we shouldn't, and put off living in ways we long for. Let's find together how to not live in tomorrow, but today.
