Kate’s Sunshinecast Ep11 - Niamh’s Choice & Listeners’ Requests

Broadcast on Gashouse Radio Tuesday 16th & repeated Saturday 20th August 2011

Download (right-click & save target)

Sparkling co-host of the show Niamh Lynn-Devere

aged ten is back in the Sunshine Studio today and the first hour of the show will be dedicated to her fave tracks from everything played on the show to date. Expect bouncy, fun tunes, with an abundance of rock and up-tempo poptastikkness. Niamh will of course have some jokes for you and if you’re very lucky, some live fart noises. Don’t miss it!

  • That’s what we said about the show before it aired, and we delivered all of it except the fart noises. Maybe next time…

We played some listener’s requests in the second hour and we also talked about the ‘Sunshine for Somalia’ compilation album that we’re hoping will raise a dollop of cash for Oxfam’s East Africa emergencies Appeal. Some very lovely artists have donated tracks already, so it’s looking positive.

If you’d like to help with the album, here’s what you can do:

Artists - donate a track - email Kate - sunshinecast@live.co.uk

Listeners - Pre-order the album on bandcamp » http://sunshinecast.bandcamp.com/album/sunshine-for-somalia - and spread the word

Arty types - design some artwork

Everyone - suggest a decent title for the album. Sunshine is the last thing Somalia needs more of, so we need a more sensitive title - all suggestions welcomed.

Kate’s Sunshinecast Ep10 - Acoustic & Pop

Broadcast on Gashouse Radio Tuesday 9th & Saturday 13th August 2011

Download (right-click & save target)

This episode was called ‘I Predict A Riot’ coz of - y’know, the riots in England that week and the Kaiser Chiefs song and all that jazz. The show featured tracks from two new artists – Nic Bennet and Louise Orfila (both of whom performed at the Tower Theatre in Folkestone, recently). I met both of these extremely talented individuals whilst out gigging with my own band DaylightSaving (cheeky plug, there).

Apologies to anyone who might have been expecting some pithy political comment about the riots currently sweeping the UK, but hey – Facebook was crawling with gossip and opinion about that already. What this show offers is an hour of acoustic tunes and an hour of feel-good pop, best washed down with a nice cuppa tea and a biscuit.
I recommend this recipe from Little Glowing Lights

Kate’s Sunshinecast Ep9 - Acoustic & Rock

Broadcast on Gashouse Radio Tuesday 2nd & Saturday 6th August 2011

Download (right-click & save target)

An hour of acoustic tuneage including coolness from the awesome Tucan (specially for chat room regular Yan and the lovely Doctor Zech), then an hour of rocktastic tracks, mostly for the appreciation of Spen, another often welcomed chat room visitor, including tracks by the amazing UK rock band Intraverse. There was much discussion about whether or not Yan should arrange for all the buses in his community transport company to have proper names, like ships do…

Kate’s Sunshinecast Ep8 - Jazz all over your face, with added love and sunshine

Broadcast on Gashouse Radio Tuesday July 19th & Saturday 23rd July 2011

Download (right-click & save target)

A whole bunch of jazz-tastic tuneage from independent artists based in the UK (and beyond) in the first hour of this show, including a new track from Claire Simone, then some ‘outsider pop’ in the second hour, with tracks from the separate albums of husband and wife musos David Long and Candy Lee Long. We also played a fab track by Paul Hawkins and the Awkward Silences, which is rather excellently available as a free download from bandcamp. If you don’t know what ‘outsider pop’ is check out Paul Hawkins’ Outsiderpop.com website to find out.
