Sitting in a park is an underrated habit. Better if you can go by yourself, and top marks if you go to one that is outside of your neighbourhood. Just look on the map and get out there. Your time in the park is the perfect antidote to the stress of living in the city.

Bickford Park is a park in a neighbourhood of the same name but it's not far from Koreatown and Little Italy. The park is popular for sports as there's a long field for soccer, as well as a baseball diamond and a dog park. Finally, there is a washroom which is of similar quality to many of the other park washrooms in Toronto.
I didn't have time to check it on this outing to see how the soap, hand sanitizer and paper towel situation is these days.

Today I bring you my latest mix which compiles music that was originally recorded on my podcast in roughly the month of May but a bit of April as well. These mixes are created for my patrons on Patreon but I thought it would be nice to share it on my podcast feed. The patrons get a higher quality FLAC download of this.
There is one track in there that is technically unreleased called How to Disappear into the Thin Air. Other than this track all the music made here is done in some sort of improvisation for the podcast.
The name of this mix is a reference to Erik Satie who worked on "Furniture Music" which was essentially the muzak of his time. Those compositions were meant to be easy going and so accessible they could be played in the background of a furniture store while people went shopping.
I would like to think that this music can be put on in the background, and since I'm mostly playing guitar throughout all the pieces, that it's almost as if I am sitting in the corner playing for you.
If someone hired me to serenade their party, this is what I would ideally play. I wouldn't want people to focus on me with any sort of intensity like they do a traditional concert.
So in a way, this mix is almost like a prototype of a live show that I could one day play, even though it's stitched together over a few weeks of Elliott's Podcast.

This week I took some time to work through a few areas of the music industry that are quickly changing. When you add up the areas of fan funding, NFTs and livestreaming, you can see that in many ways artists are getting wise to the game that has been played so far with streaming services not being the fairest crack at earning a living.
The fundamental question that has to be asked here is something along the lines of, “do musicians deserve to get paid for their work?”, and while it might be an offensive question to work through we should likely agree that on the whole there is nothing that commands artists to get paid for their work.
Because it’s all based on context: Is this artist operating inside a network that makes it appealing for the flow or energy of money to make its way over to this person?

Today’s podcast is a long recording of a rainstorm that happened last week in Toronto, which is July 2021, that’s the summer, 2021 years after Jesus.
I would say my biggest disclaimer is that it would be difficult to listen to this episode while you’re out and about. You will probably want to listen on headphones to enter into the space. Beyond that I don’t want to prescribe what sort of attention you must pay to the sounds of this storm.
In some ways it felt like a fraud preparing this recording, because you know, it’s not me playing music and trying to show off whatever skill I’ve picked up along the way in life.
Yet when I sat down to edit and mix this piece I became aware that from start to finish this soundscape is just as poetic as any piece of music that I could write, which typically has some sort of battle between the ego and the self at play.
The field recording is almost the closest thing you can get to removing the ego because the action or “doing” of the project is essentially surrendering to the power of the planet.
I take my portable recorder, I hit record and walk away. Later on I listen back to the results, like developing film.
