Act II: "First Lady" Style
The Church and Depression
A-LINE FROM THE VIDEO:
"I was supposed to have my 'ACT' together as a pastor's wife."
Hmmm...what did you think she said?
We are filled with impregnable strength when joy keeps its glow even under challenging circumstances. Joy generates power!
Joy is a special wisdom. In sadness, people become blind and lose their faith.
What is required, then, is a shift in consciousness. It has been said that ‘thoughts are things,” meaning that what you pay attention to, you become. So, lower thoughts need to dissolve so new, higher thoughts can emerge.
Just a little nugget that carries a lot of truth.
Much Love.

Legna Jay is a fictional character. However, her monologues are from real people. Her stories carry the scars of roads traveled, triumphs won, and lessons learned. She exposes those hard-worn places without fear that they might be misinterpreted, misunderstood, or rejected.
She determines not to repress, reshape and retell her stories. She chooses not to tell "highlight" stories, knowing it dulls the very weapon God has given her to assist in empowering herself and others.

The smothering of Legna Jay in mini monologues
Part one: The Church and depression
Depression can drive you to question God or feel separated from Him. In addition, it can also make navigating the Christian world more difficult. Depression can be even more difficult for Christians because of the stigmas, dogmas, and misinterpretations linked to many Christian congregations.
When you or the people you have around you don't comprehend the reality of depression, it makes seeking help difficult. Depression can distort your perception of the truth or cause you to doubt your judgment. It's essential to recognize the misconceptions about depression in Christian schooling.

BLACK HISTORY 2022 INSPIRE!
"You're pretty for a Black girl."
I was in seventh grade the first time I got that "compliment." If that's what you call it. For this and many other reasons, I grew up thinking that although my Blackness was beautiful, it only was in relativity and comparison to white beauty. Since then, I have learned to embrace, honor and love my Blackness. Through every American experience, I am a beautiful black woman created by God to leave a particular 'mark' on this planet.
I am who I am supposed to be, and that's a beautiful feeling!

To live in your truth can mean many different things. Intuitively, you know what it feels like. But putting it into words can be tough. Based on the changing events in your life, living in your truth may manifest in a number of ways:
How you make everyday decisions often shows whether or not you’re being true to yourself.

Your hiding place is in His Presence.
God's presence is your hiding place; in those present moments with Him, you choose to surrender all your troubling thoughts. And in exchange, God surrounds and encompasses you with songs of rescue and freedom.
And the words to each song reveal the answers to those troubling thoughts you chose to surrender. Psalm 32:7 Selah

Meditation helps us to see the contents of our hearts and minds. It enables us to understand how we see the world and the pain we carry with greater clarity, compassion, and acceptance. In this way, meditation has the power to transform our relationship with ourselves, others, and the environment around us.
It's so easy to get lost in negative thoughts and self-doubt. Under those feelings of lack and insecurity usually rests a more profound truth: We don't feel worthy of love. Societal ideals condition us to believe that we must always strive to be "better." That means thinner, happier, more prosperous, brighter—you get the picture. Rarely are we ever made to believe that we are enough just as we are.
We may not even feel that we are worthy of our own love, which is sad.
When my inner nitpicker starts to sneak in, telling me that I'll never be this or that, my meditative sensibility reminds me to pause whatever I'm doing, rest, and breathe. Yes, there are times when I reach for the ice cream instead and choose to wallow. I also know that going down this rabbit hole of wallowing and self-criticism will mean a longer recovery for me.
Meditating on self-love allows me to reconnect with my heart—to remember that I am worthy of love, especially my own.
Mastering the day-to-day range of human emotion can be so challenging. I have found that when I slip into "not-enoughness," I need most to focus on loving myself.
Everything good in life stems from our self-love, so we must practice cultivating it daily.

“Why in the world do I keep doing this?”
“How does this keep happening to me?”
You might ask yourself these questions, I know I have. You know, you feel like you are in this constant loop that creates problems in your life and prevents you from accomplishing what you want to do. You try to make changes and interrupt these patterns; but, you end up in the same place, again and again.
Yep, sounds familiar. Could I be sabotaging myself?
Self-sabotage refers to behaviors or thought patterns that hold you back and prevent you from doing what you want to do.
It’s tough, but working through challenges and problems helps you grow. When you give up before you’ve put in much effort, you may not learn how to make different choices in the future.

FEAR a projection of what the future may hold. A guess. A fantasy. A moment where we believe we are clairvoyant of only the worst possible outcome.
And yet, we hold our fears to be as real as the reality of this moment. It freezes us. It holds us back from moving forward. It holds us in this fantasy world where we believe that what we've made up will indeed come to pass. It becomes as real to us as anything that's actually happened.
Freeing your mind from your fears is a crucial step to your life's progression. In essence, detaching yourself from your fears and moving closer to the emotion of love is the primary process that personal development relies on.
