For the past twenty-nine weeks, many of us have had a lot of time to do some real soul searching. I found myself furloughed and home with my toddler son trying to navigate “my new normal”. Not knowing what the future would hold for me caused me to ask myself some tough questions. If I were to be laid off permanently what would I do? After working for one company for over twenty-one years needless to say I was a bit freaked out. As the weeks passed on and a number of virtual happy hour conversations, a dear friend suggested that I start a podcast. As I began to assess what were my transferrable skills it made perfect sense. I’ve had great experiences in my career. I’ve been able to travel the world sharing business practices with other companies. I’ve moved around within the organization and have my own stories to tell. What resonated with me the most is that I could be my authentic self in Podcast-land. I would be able to create great content and speak Truth to Power as a black woman. I could tap into the many friends and associates that I have cultivated over the years to have great conversations on various topics. Potentially bringing insights to women who find themselves with similar circumstances. All while bringing knowledge to those who may not look like me but want to learn more about us. Who knew at the very moment when I would embark on my new passion project that a black woman of Jamaican and South Indian parents would become the first woman Vice President-Elect. That was even further confirmation that I am spot on. There will be episodes where it will just be me discussing topics based on various experiences in my life followed up with guests to continue the conversation on some of the topics. This will allow an opportunity to unpack the subject, to gain a deeper perspective and points of view. My mission is to inspire, engage and speak my truth.
