Welcome to This is the Thing Podcast! Where old friends, Sydney comedian Lizzy Hoo and Melbourne writer Lisa Wills, get together to muse over the week‘s events, tackle the locky d blues, and solve the world‘s problems - one LOL at a time.
Guys, gals and non-binary pals: it's been another great week in the neighbourhood!
We welcome Lizzy back from a grand ol' time in Bali, where she's knocking back cocktails and doing her back getting some surf lessons in: Leese wants to know why cocktails were so weirdly sexual in the nineties: and are we too old and cynical for heroes?
All this and more in this week's ep!
Love to all,
xx Lizzy and Leese xx
Hi friends!! It's been a great week in the neighbourhood, and we're leaning into more regular episodes (!) in this new season...
Lizzy is headed to Bali for some proper Hoo family shenanigans... does our resident Lizzy from Brissie have a bogan edge? Meanwhile Leese contemplates a mid-life crisis on discovering that she's going greyer by the day...
It's a lot! Love to you fam!
xx Lizzy and Leese xx
Friends, we are finally back!!! It's been a long time since we hit the airwaves in the neighbourhood. What's happened since we saw you last? Well, Leese went to Perth and has come back super smug at the election result - while Lizzy has been doing shows across the country.
This week, we talk about our time away - about our love of pets (is it slightly insane to love our fur babies as much as we do?) and moving in with our partners.
Can't wait to see you all soon!! Promise it won't be that long next time
xx Lizzy and Leese xx
Friends!! It's been another huge week (or two!) in the neighbourhood, and as always - with your help, your local heroines Lizzy and Leese are on a medium-scale adventure to figure out all of the things in our lives...
Among these big decisions, is... marriage! Do we really need to get married in this day/age/economy, or is is a bit naff? Lizzy says nay, Leese... isn't quite sure. But we're working it out! Let us know what you think on the 'gram (@thisisthethingpod)!
Much love and chat soon,
xx Lizzy and Leese xx
Friends! Another big week in the neighbourhood! This week, Lizzy comes to us live from Adelaide, where she dines at the table with the Kween (Poh!) and generally enjoys all the Adelaide has to offer... for the short-term. Meanwhile, Leese accidentally runs into some anti-vaxxers and tumbles down a nostalgia rabbbit-hole (Tomorrow When The War Began series, anyone?) All this and more in this week's episode!
Big hugs always,
xx Lizzy and Leese xx
Friends! Yet another big week in the neighbourhood!
This week, Lizzy is dealing with a super shit*ty landlord, and we wonder: if buying houses is a thing in this day and age? Can we really beat the boomers at the investment game, or is the Australian Dream a bit more complicated?
Meanwhile, Leese asks: does the world need more heroes? We watch 'The Rescue', a documentary about the Thai cave boys rescue - and find out just how insane that huge act of heroism was. Good times!
Much love, until next week!
xx Lizzy and Leese xx
SHOW NOTES
Lizzy is at the Adelaide Fringe this week - nab tickets if you're nearby!
Check out Nightingale Housing - it's the way of the future
The Rescue is now streaming on Disney Plus - give it a watch and let us know what you think!
Friends! Yet another big week for us all! This week, Leese chats to us live from Parliament House - where the anti-vaxxers are out in full force, generally p*ssing off the locals and loitering about with weird racial signs. Can we bridge political divides? We reminisce about Leese's old conservative driving instructor, while Lizzy asks: are hen's parties the worst kind of parties? It's a lolly bag mix as always - all this and more in this week's episode!
Much love fam, and thanks for listening!
xx Lizzy and Leese xx
P.S. Hit us up for Billy's details if you need a driving lesson in Canberra!
Friends! It's been another huge week!
This week we welcome in the Year of the Tiger with big news - Lizzy is moving to Melbourne and tackles all her past lives at the same time. Why does moving suck so much? While Lizzy sorts through her 1998 fashion choices, Leese grieves the end of the Australian Open and all the drama that came with it - Novak, the Special Ks, Ash Barty and Dylan Alcott! What a time! Finally, we reminisce on the earlier days of the internet (does anyone else remember ICQ?)
It's a lolly-bag mix this week friends, and we love to see it!
'Til next week,
xx Lizzy and Leese xx

Friends! It's been another huge week in the neighbourhood.
This week, we're inspired by powerhouse women who don't hold back when it comes to challenging the status quo - and we welcome our second guest to the pod, Greens Senator for NSW Mehreen Faruqi! A politician, engineer, activist, migrant and feminist, Senator Faruqi shares how she holds onto hope in an era of shitty politics and huge challenges (COVID and climate, anyone?) and leaves us inspired and full of renewed hope.
We also talk about our queen, Grace Tame - and a new generation of women who aren't willing to hold back their feelings or 'fake' it for men. What a hero!

Friends, welcome to Episode 16 of This Is The Thing! In this week's episode, Lizzy's prediction that she'd catch the 'rona from her boyfriend's cricket escapades comes true. What's the spicy cough like on a triple vax? Lizzy is well and DJ Vax Chat couldn't be happier!
Meanwhile, it's Australian Open Week in Melbourne. Novak Djokovic is no jab no play, finally getting booted out of the country - and Leese is all about the week ahead. Who will come through with the goods? Now more than ever we need good news stories!
Speaking of good times, this week Lizzy wonders why the Hillsong Church can hold parties with no masks, given the rest of us can't really hit the d floors just now...
'Til next week friends, thanks for listening!
xx Lizzy and Leese xx
Welcome to 2022, friends! We missed you!!
It's been a huge few weeks! While the east coast explodes with the spicy cough, Lizzy goes overseas for fun and family time (wild!) and makes it back into the country, 'rona free. Meanwhile, Novak Djokovic's visa thrills and spills keep us entertained as ScoMo forgets to buys RAT kits and buys tanks instead (whatta guy!)
Finally, it's the good news story we all didn't know we needed... Leese, our resident This Is The Thing Bachelorette, may have met her match. How long does the glorious honeymoon period last?! (romance is obnoxious and cute all at the same time... right?)
Love to you, pod fam! Let us know what you think, and see you for another huge week, next week!
xx Lizzy and Leese xx
Friends!! It's been another huge week in the neighbourhood. 2021 is almost done, and we’re moving from birthday season to festive season. Lizzy gives shi*tty gifts (blue shorts, anyone?) while Leese reminisces on the years where her parents either gave her Bon Jovi albums (who?) or left her pressies at lay-buy. Bless.
We also chat this week about what it’s like flying in a plane with Leese (not good!) as Lizzy takes to the skies in Griffith. Wild times!
Things get serious when we talk Burning, the latest doco on Amazon Prime Video about the 2019 Black Saturday bushfires. Watch it, get mad, and get ready to do something about the destruction of the planet. Can this country do better than ScoMo? You better believe it!
Much love fam, hope you have a great week! See you soon for more lols and good times,
xx Lizzy and Leese xx
Friends!!! After a short trip away to the NSW south coast, Lizzy and Leese are back to tackle all the big issues of the week. For her birthday week, Leese gets down and dirty in nature - Lizzy and Leese give love to our boss Blak Bachelorette, Brook Blurton - and ask, how do we get more people to know what Aboriginal land they’re on? Leese trashes Novak Djokovic, the Pete Evans of tennis - and Lizzy is still trying to love Anthony Bourdain.
It’s been a HUGE week, and we’ve missed you all!
‘Til next week fam, much love
xx Lizzy and Leese xx
P.S. Sydney-siders! Lizzy will be performing her 2021 festival show Hoo Dis? one last time on December 10 / Comedy Store Sydney 7pm. Grab your tickets here

Meanwhile, Leese considers whether she's really up to the task of taking more risks in her life, at this point: are things getting a little too comfortable for our resident hipster? Meanwhile Lizzy reminisces about her school's resident flasher (!) and pushes for more news from space... It's a win on all fronts!

Friends! We're so thrilled to be in the same room for lucky episode number 11 this week. From Lizzy's bedroom in Sydney, Lizzy and Leese manage to figure our way through the wholesome and the slightly less-wholesome this week:
Are d*ck pics still a thing?
Leese takes Lizzy running on a hangover (cruel at best)
Leese and Lizzy hang out with jigging grandmas at a matinee of the musical Come From Away
Lizzy routinely breaks her apartment (lol)
aaaaaand... It's jacaranda season in Sydney! (Does it get more wholesome than that?)
As always, thanks for listening! Let us know what you think of this ep through the prism of 5 star Apple Podcast reviews :)

Craig Kelly, Texter Extraordinaire, reckons politicians shouldn't be able to text punters?
Patty Mills, Boomer and First Nations basketball legend, is still hot and bringing the vibes...
But! The vibes belong this week to DJ Khalid, who Leese reckons we might all wanna emulate (should be though?) Check out his awesome guitar skills here, lol.
Much love fam! See you next week for more hot takes on all the things xx

Friends! It's been another huge week in the neighbourhood. In this week's episode, Lizzy and Leese say goodbye to Gladdy and consider which token white dude will take her place: Lizzy has a 'solo picnic' (how's that for some wild lockdown adventures): and the girls consider what 'cancel culture' really means, and why Pauline Hanson shouldn't be given a platform (looking at you, Jessica Rowe). It's all fun and games, with lols thrown in. Thanks for joining us fam! xx Lizzy and Leese xx

This week, mates Lizzy and Leese cover the week's big issues:
Women who rock (hard enough for a spot in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame)
The Liberals don't give a s*it about women (no surprises there)
The Chair on Netflix and the genius of Sandra Oh
Pus! A bonus enquiry into whether Stefanos Tsisipas really is shitting his pants at the US Open (Ivermectin style!)
