Will AI replace physicians?
The experts in this discussion think that's the wrong question.
In this episode, leaders in sports medicine, robotics, digital health, and artificial intelligence explore what happens when patients arrive with wearable data, AI-generated insights, predictive injury models, and questions that didn't exist a few years ago.
The conversation covers robotic surgery, digital twins, athlete monitoring, predictive analytics, ChatGPT, wearable technology, and the rapidly changing relationship between patients and healthcare professionals.
One reality became clear:
The patient already has access to AI.
The challenge for medicine is learning how to work alongside it.
Because the future may not belong to physicians who compete with technology.
It may belong to physicians who know how to interpret it, challenge it, and use it to deliver better care.

A routine afternoon. A hospital parking lot. A split second that changes everything.
When a young rehabilitation physician is struck by an out-of-control car, she suddenly finds herself experiencing medicine from the opposite side of the bed. In this intimate conversation, Dr. Olivia Ong recounts the physical trauma, the private thoughts she never expected to have, and the moments that challenged everything she believed about identity, purpose, and what it means to heal.

PRP. Stem cells. Bone marrow concentrate. Peptides. Longevity medicine.
Patients are asking about regenerative therapies long before many physicians have had formal training in them.
In this episode, leaders in orthobiologics tackle one of the most controversial questions in sports medicine:
How much of the excitement is supported by evidence, and how much is driven by marketing, social media, and public demand?
The discussion explores certification, patient education, surgical alternatives, biologic augmentation, regenerative orthopedics, and the future of musculoskeletal care.
One theme emerged repeatedly:
The conversation is no longer whether patients are interested.
They already are.
The challenge now is making sure the science keeps pace with the enthusiasm.

What exactly is a sports medicine doctor?
The answer turns out to be more complicated than most people realize.
In this episode, orthopedic surgeons and a non-operative sports medicine physician (profiles of participants below) tackle a surprisingly controversial question: who gets to use the title, what training matters, and how patients can navigate an increasingly crowded landscape of clinicians treating athletic injuries.
The discussion explores fellowship training, collaboration, surgery versus non-surgical care, chiropractors, podiatrists, professional athletes, weekend warriors, and the growing confusion surrounding healthcare titles.
One theme emerged repeatedly:
Sports medicine is bigger than surgery, bigger than injections, and bigger than any one specialty.
The challenge is helping patients understand who is sitting across from them and what training stands behind the title.

In this episode of The Physician Feed, Dr. Jordan Emont takes on one of healthcare social media’s most uncomfortable questions: when does medical humor stop being funny and start becoming harmful?
From viral videos mocking patients to the institutional silence that often lets toxic behavior grow an audience, this conversation pulls no punches. Dr. Emont argues that humor absolutely belongs in healthcare, but never at the expense of patients, especially when the jokes target women, anatomy, weight, mental health, or vulnerable moments inside the exam room. The episode moves from online outrage to a deeper reckoning with professionalism, misogyny in medicine, and the power of social media to expose what institutions may prefer to quietly ignore.

In this episode of From Print to Pod, we host a discussion based on the article Trained to Work, Not to Own: Why Identity, Not Math, Keeps Physicians From Thriving.
Physicians often move through training without ever questioning the path in front of them. By the time career decisions arise, employment feels familiar, while ownership can feel distant or undefined. In this discussion, Dr. Tod Stillson, Dr. Maria Sokolina, and Dr. Zara Chopuryan explore how early exposure shapes that mindset and why many physicians never fully see the range of options available to them. Here’s what to understand about how training influences career identity and what it means for those considering private practice.

The following is a commentary by Dana Corriel, MD, author of Why We Left: When Medicine Judges the Physicians, But Never Itself. In this introspective episode of From Print to Pod, Dr. Dana Corriel turns the mic inward to reflect on her own journey of stepping away from clinical medicine. Sparked by a viral LinkedIn post and the SoMeDocs magazine article she wrote, she shares the emotional fallout of facing peer judgment, the systemic issues that continue to drive physicians out, and powerful reactions from other doctors who have walked the same path. Through a mix of personal experience and curated comments from the medical community, Dr. Corriel challenges the narrative that physicians are to blame for leaving—and instead asks why medicine itself escapes critique.

Throughout, Dr. Concepcion’s insights reinforce the importance of early healthcare education, authentic communication, and the potential impact of empowering young minds to become informed advocates for themselves and their communities.

We're here to discuss her article titled "Going Back to High School: How Speaking to Students Inspired Me." Dr. Concepcion, please introduce yourself and tell our audience a bit more about you.
Dr. Maryal Concepcion (00:30):
Thank you so much for having me! I’m excited to be here. I’m a full-scope family medicine physician practicing in rural Northern California. I own a direct primary care clinic and host a weekly podcast focused on DPC. I’m really happy to share more about my recent experience speaking at my old high school.
Dr. Corriel (00:51):
Fantastic! Let’s dive right in. What was it like stepping back into your high school—this time as a physician and podcaster? What did that full-circle moment feel like?
Dr. Concepcion (01:06):
Even though I’m 42, I didn’t feel that age walking into my high school again. It felt like only 15 years had passed. Being back there brought back so many good memories. It felt like home—but this time, I was standing in front of a new generation. I was a little intimidated at first, wondering how familiar

Dr. Corriel:
Hi everyone, and welcome to another episode! Today, we’re featuring an article from our magazine spotlighting Dr. Kristiyana Kaneva and her journey of humility, courage, and mentorship in healthcare. I’m excited to dive right in—Dr. Kaneva is here with me. Welcome! To start, can you tell our audience a bit more about yourself?
Dr. Kaneva:
Thank you so much, Dr. Corriel, for inviting me to your podcast. My name is Kristiyana Kaneva, and I’m a pediatric oncologist by training. For the past five years, I’ve been working in the healthcare industry outside of clinical medicine. I was most recently at Tempus AI, a data and diagnostics company focused on molecular diagnostics for cancer. I worked on developing new diagnostics for oncology patients and recently transitioned into the pharmaceutical industry, where I now focus on the clinical development of oncology drugs.
Dr. Corriel:
Wonderful—congratulations! We featured your interview in our magazine's leadership section, especially timely given our recent Women in Healthcare Leadership Conference. With that in mind, many of our questions today will focus on leadership. First up: you recently moved from Tempus to AbbVie. What inspired this change, and how did you know it was the right time?
Dr. Kaneva:
Great question. It wasn’t an easy decision—it took a lot of thought. I realized I wanted to learn more about drug development, and it felt like a “now or never” moment in terms of my career. I wanted to diversify my skill set. I’m very comfortable in molecular diagnostics, but diagnostics are only part of the puzzle—you need drugs to actually treat patients. So while it was a big change in workflow and environment, I’ve been happy with the transition.
Dr. Corriel:
You're now serving as a Medical Director in early oncology development at AbbVie. What does a typical day look like for you, and how do you plan to make an impact?
Dr. Kaneva:
I’m still settling in—I’ve been with AbbVie for just over a month—but my days are collaborative. I work with a fantastic, multidisciplinary team focused on early drug development. It’s a hybrid role, so I work from home on Mondays and Fridays—like today—and I'm in the office the rest of the week. My goal is to contribute meaningfully to AbbVie’s mission and make a positive impact in oncology.
Dr. Corriel:
You mentioned being promoted twice at Tempus. What do you think contributed most to that growth?
Dr. Kaneva:
Hard work, definit

Dr. Steven Merahn thinks there is an academic medicine secret handshake.
He also thinks peer review is a biased gate-keeper of ideas. It's all part of "respectability politics".
He says, "Who gets to tell their story? Who's allowed to tell their story?"

When I agreed to work with Dr. Jay Joshi, I had no idea about his past. What he brought to the table was a rich past, including jail-time and an incredible determination to now pay it forward, having conversations around advocacy that he believes will make a difference, especially in a field in which so much is kept behind closed doors.
We had an honest conversation, in which Dr. Joshi opened up. I found his honest, raw vulnerability refreshing, and hope that it moves you as much as it did me. Whatever happened in the past, no one who hears him in the present can say that he isn't passionate about what he does. I'm excited to see where his next steps take him, and how our new STIGMATIZED series will play out. Stay tuned.

I had no idea that I’d get a blank screen to light up across from me, when I hopped on to this Zoom.
Instead of a human face, I got the avatar-sketch of a historical figure, a British physician who had experienced burnout, and took breaks to tend to self-care.
Behind the avatar, I connected with the gentle-voiced human that’s pouring so much good into the world.
And apparently, anonymously is how this doctor rolls!
To protect his privacy, and the privacy of those that he helps, he keeps his identity secret.
Gotta give the guy respect!
Take a listen to why he does things anonymously, and what he’s built up to help with the burnout of today.
This episode features a shoutout to Dr. Diana Londono, who can be found in our directory, and whose SoMeDocs magazine articles can be found in that profile, too.

This candid discussion was edited from a NETWORK member consultation, a new perk we're providing to each member who signs up to be a part of the SoMeDocs NETWORK. In it, we identify the current status and goal of the doctor who joins, and then give some advice/take them around the site to show them the tools they can use.
In this particular video, we've edited out the "middle" section, where the tour was given around the site, as it pertained to Dr. Saucier. If you're a NETWORK member and would like to see the entire footage, you can find the LIVE cut inside our NETWORK MEMBER FB group here.

I sat across from Dr. Ilana Yurkiewicz recently, to discuss healthcare (this is Dr. Corriel writing)
She’s not only a practicing internist at Stanford Medical Center, but also a graduate of Yale undergrad. To say she’s achieved success in life would be an understatement.
But now, she’s doing more than practicing medicine. She’s advocating for change.
Dr. Yurkiewicz recently published a book called Fragmented, through Norton Press, with years of award-winning medical journalism under belt.
Listen to us converse about healthcare, check out her book, and stay tuned for an additional advice-filled video recording in which Dr. Yurkiewicz shares her experience in publishing her book, a different convo direction, but not less important.
Welcome to SoMeDocs Conversations, by the way. It’s a new show (delivered in both video and podcast format), in which we showcase light discussions from the healthcare world. If you enjoy it, don’t forget to share it!

About this episode:
Dr. Firas Al Shakarchi posted a reel showing a "Code", which is where doctors rush to the aid of a patient who typically needs CPR.
Al Shakarchi, however, is a neurologist, and appears perplexed at the task at hand.
The reel is, of course, comedic, created in jest.
The neurologist ALSO created a separate reel that we dissected, this time acting out a scenario in which he gets water on his phone.
What ensues is, quite simply, Oscar-worthy, as Al Shakarchi tries in vain to stop his mobile's keys from moving.
We needed to dissect these, STAT.
And so we did.
That's Social Dissections.

About this episode:
Dr. Sonal Haerter posted a reel showing a room full of students, each with a needle in their hand.
The students look intense, angling the needle into the knee of an adjacent dummy.
It all took place to the backdrop of a modern jam.
We needed to dissect this, STAT.
And so we did.
That's Social Dissections.

About this episode:
Dr. Krystal Revai Sodiatis posted about neurodiversity on her social media feed.
"How fitting!" we thought, as we stopped mid-scroll, to read what she had written.
It's clear from the look of things that not enough people understand this concept, nor even know what it means.
We needed to dissect this, STAT.
And so we did.
That's Social Dissections.
(we've also decided that it's important enough to run an entire virtual conference on, in fact. So if the topic piques your curiosity, you can join us there!)

Dr. Kwadwo Kyeremanteng stands in front of the camera, wearing a T-shirt that reads "Solving Healthcare".
He looks straight into the camera and speaks from the heart, focusing in on his role as the head of the Intensive Care Unit of a major hospital, telling everyone who's listening (myself included) how NOT to see him..

Dr. Dhruva Gulur is quite the interesting dude.
Besides learning how to pronounce his name (it's tricky, folks, because you're not supposed to pronounce that "v"!!), I learned so many other aspects of his life I wasn't anticipating would emerge.
Dr. Gulur has had an incredibly tough past, and in overcoming it, he's pushing past hurdles and finding ways to rise to the top.
We all know what rises to the top, right?
Yes, cream.
Anyway, take a listen to what was meant to be a light-hearted conversation, and soak up the incredible journey that gets slipped into in this exchange.
People are just so inspiring.
Welcome to SoMeDocs Conversations, by the way. It's a new show (delivered in both video and podcast format), in which we showcase light discussions from the healthcare world. If you enjoy it, don't forget to share it!

About this episode:
Dr. Aleea Gupta posted a reel that was just a few seconds long, showing her working in front of her work computer, with words overlaid on the top.
She wrote about finding happiness in practicing medicine, and how difficult it became for her, when she was pushed to see many patients per day.
She decided to change the way she saw patients and found happiness in doing this.
We needed to dissect this, STAT.
And so we did.
That's Social Dissections.
