What would you do if you stumbled upon a creepy statue in a secluded cave, far from the safety of marked trails? A mysterious figure adorned with nails and a haunting noose around its neck.
Would curiosity drive you to take it home, despite a sense of impending doom lurking in the shadows? Or would you heed the warning signs, and leave it undisturbed, in fear of awakening something malevolent?
Two hikers chose the latter, the decision to take the statue home sparked a chain of inexplicable events. Strange noises in the dead of night, disgusting scents filling the air, and even sightings of muddy footprints appearing without any logical explanation.
Brace yourself as we venture into the chilling tale of "The Catskill Crone." This is The Other Side and today we are going to uncover the fear, the uncertainty, and the inexplicable encounters that will leave you wondering... what would you do?
Note: this was originally posted on the r/Paranormal subreddit by a throwaway account named WiggedHikerThrowaway in a post titled “Me and a friend found this creepy statue while hiking and now strange things are going on. Anyone know what this is?” the original poster begins to recount a terrifying tale involving him and his friend’s visit to the Catskill Mountains.
In the comments of the post, the Original Poster is directed to contact Greg Newkirk, the co-creator of Hellier, and the co-owner of the Newkirk Museum which is a traveling museum of the paranormal and the occult which he owns with his wife Dana Newkirk. This begins their saga which is the focus of their documentary, The Unbinding.

Today, we're exploring the eerie stories and legends that have circulated about the Red River Gorge in Kentucky and answering the question of is their a creature stalking people at Red River Gorge.One of the most chilling legends involves a group of devil worshipers who were said to have conducted dark rituals in the forest. The stories go that they would gather in the dead of night, in the most secluded parts of the woods, and perform ceremonies that involved animal sacrifices and other ghastly acts. Those who stumbled upon their rituals claimed to have seen strange symbols etched into the ground and heard blood-curdling screams echoing through the trees.One person who claims to have had a terrifying encounter with these devil worshipers is a woman named Sarah. She was hiking alone in the woods, trying to escape the crowds and immerse herself in nature. Walking, she noticed strange symbols etched into the ground and trees around her. Suddenly, she heard chanting coming from a clearing up ahead.Curiosity got the better of her, and she followed the sound to the clearing. There, she saw a group of people in robes gathered around a fire. They were chanting in a language she didn't recognize, and as she approached, they turned to look at her. Sarah froze in terror as she saw they were holding a struggling animal, about to sacrifice it.Sarah was lucky to escape with her life that day and never forgot the terrifying encounter. She later learned that the symbols she saw were those associated with devil worship and that the area she had been hiking was known as a site of occult activity.Another spine-tingling tale involves the Grey Lady of Red River Gorge. The Grey Lady is a ghostly figure that is said to haunt the area around the Nada Tunnel. According to the legend, she was a woman who met a tragic end when she crashed her car into the tunnel, killing herself and her children. Now, her ghost wanders the tunnel, searching for her lost children. Some people have reported seeing her ghostly figure in the fog that often surrounds the tunnel.One person who claims to have had a chilling encounter with the Grey Lady is Jack. Jack was driving through the Nada Tunnel late one night when he saw a figure emerge from the fog. At first, he thought it was just his imagination playing tricks on him, but as he got closer, he realized it was a woman dressed in old-fashioned clothing.As Jack drove closer, the woman disappeared into the fog. Jack stopped his car and got out to investigate, but there was no sign of the woman. Suddenly, he heard a soft voice whispering his name. Jack turned around, but there was no one there. He got back into his car and quickly drove away, feeling a sense of unease that lingered long after the encounter.While there have been sightings of Bigfoot throughout Kentucky, there is a particular legend about Bigfoot in the Red River Gorge area. According to the story, Bigfoot is said to inhabit the densely forested area around the gorge, and hikers, campers, and locals have reported sightings of the creature.In one popular version of the legend, a group of hunters in the Red River Gorge area claimed to have seen a large, hairy, bipedal creature in the woods. The beast was said to be around eight feet tall and covered in matted fur, with long arms that swung as it walked. The hunters were reportedly so frightened by the encounter that they fled the area and never returned.Other stories claim that Bigfoot is a peaceful creature that lives in the woods and avoids contact with humans. Some people even believe that Bigfoot is a supernatural entity that can disappear into thin air or use mind control to manipulate people. In this gripping episode, join us as we delve into the intriguing and chilling experiences of a Search and Rescue (SAR) officer working for the US Forest Service. With a remarkable track record of finding missing persons, this officer has encountered some truly puzzling and haunting cases that defy explanation.
We start with the mysterious disappearances of a young boy and a woman, both vanishing under bizarre circumstances. The boy's sister claims he was taken away by a figure she calls 'the bear man,' describing a tall, hairy being with a peculiar face. Despite an extensive search, no trace of the boy is ever found. Similarly, the woman climbs a tree for a better view, only to inexplicably vanish without a trace while her family waits below.
The officer also recounts encounters with canines leading him to seemingly impossible locations, including sheer cliffs with no handholds, only to discover the missing persons elsewhere. These perplexing incidents leave him questioning the nature of reality.
The narrative takes a darker turn when the officer recalls the heartbreaking recovery of a young girl's body, and the devastating impact it has on her grieving mother. Tragedy strikes again as a climber is found trapped in a crevasse, claiming to have encountered a faceless man on the mountain who ultimately caused his fall.
But the eeriest tale of all involves a search for a woman who experienced a terrifying presence, a "big man with black eyes," following her through the woods. Strange coughing noises and an uncanny revelation about the officer's scar add to the sense of dread in this spine-chilling account.
To conclude, the officer shares a recurring phenomenon that SAR teams encounter deep in the wilderness: random staircases found in the middle of nowhere. Despite their intrigue, they are strictly avoided, and the secrecy surrounding them raises more questions than answers.

What if one of these people reporting on UFO's was a celebrity who would gain nothing by reporting it? Former Oklahoma Sooner, Heisman Trophy Winner, and the Number One overall pick in the 2018 NFL draft, Baker Mayfield risked everything by doing just that. The Other Side Podcast Ep. 02: The Hopkinsville Horror
The Kelly–Hopkinsville encounter (a.k.a. Hopkinsville Goblins Case, Kelly Green Men Case, and more recently The Kentucky Goblins case) was a claimed close encounter with extraterrestrial beings in 1955 near Kelly Kentucky and Hopkinsville Kentucky. UFOlogists, people who actively study UFOs and Alien encounters regard it as one of the most significant and well-documented cases in the history of recorded UFO and extraterrestrial encounters.
August 21, 1955, five adults and seven children arrived at the Hopkinsville police station claiming that small alien creatures from a spaceship were attacking their farmhouse and they had been holding them off with gunfire "for nearly four hours". Two of the adults, Elmer Sutton and Billy Ray Taylor, claimed they had been shooting at "twelve to fifteen" short, dark figures who repeatedly popped up at the doorway or peered into the windows.
