Own it! is about owning back your life. May that be from physical/mental illnesses or just from a constant struggle with mental health. I always knew that my life is my responsibility and mine alone. I wasn’t waiting for somebody to save me, but I for sure was hoping for it as I had no clue what I was going through. I thought I was a failure instead of depressed. I thought I was weak, because of my eating disorder (bulimia). I thought I was sensitive to the ways my celiac disease challenged me mentally. But in all honesty, I and all the people who live with a mental illness are quite the opposite. Here on “Own it” I want to talk about just that. About how a mental illness feels like, what I did to get better, why I didn’t ask for help, how challenging recovery is, and a lot more. I want to keep it personal, cause I’m just like you a 22-year old that is scared to be different in a sense of not being considered “normal”…For a long time, I was terrified by stigma. And though I’m still scared of it, I know I’m stronger! And you are too!
When I think of healing, I think of recovery and growth. This in return reminds me of movies and novels and the journey of the “hero/heroine”. But in real life, it didn't really feel that way...

I think everybody can envision something when thinking about mental health, but would you be able to explain it to someone?
When I thought about it, the only straight answer, I could come up with, was, that it's the absence of mental illness...
However, I think we agree that there is more to it.
So..., let's find out!

Hey and welcome to Own it! Your Life. Your Mindset.
I'm Viktoria-Marie and I'm on the journey of owning back my life.
Recovery is tough but it's even harder when you have yet to figure out what you're recovering from.
We don't talk enough about mental health and illnesses to know what a mental illness is supposed to feel like, what you can do to get better, and what treatment options there actually are.
And that's exactly what I talk about on my blog. Well and now here...

Would you like to be linked to a blog that talks about mental health and illnesses?
I sure didn't. I was terrified of what people might think of me.
Don't get me wrong, I'm still pretty scared but nothing will ever change if we don't change.
In this episode, I'll talk about why I was so scared to link my name and my face to a blog that talks about mental health and mental illnesses.
The virtual world and especially social media let us believe that the stigma around mental health is decreasing, but is that actually true?
Is the real world a safe place to open up about one's mental health and mental illnesses?
In this episode I mentioned some blogposts and numbers:
- psychological impacts of celiac disease:

- percentage of Americans that will live with a mental illness at some point in their life:
