Aran Anandakumar, former Investment Analyst at Barclay Pearce Capital, shares with us his insights into the 2021 Covid-19 vaccine situation in Australia.
Australia is one of the world's success stories in its fight against COVID-19, but concern is growing over the delays with the vaccination rollout and the health issues associated with it.
So far 1.6 million vaccine doses have been administered nationwide, well short of the 4 million dose goal originally set. The TGA received reports of ~30 deaths in 40,000 elderly individuals in Norway who were dosed with the Pfizer vaccine.
Then in March, there were multiple reports linking the AstraZeneca vaccine and a syndrome called thrombosis in combination with thrombocytopenia, which is an extremely rare blood clotting syndrome that can cause long-term disability and even death.

Jack Colreavy, our Investment Analyst, shares his insights on the Australian Government Debt and its link to the inflation rate.
In 2007, Australia’s gross government debt was a meagre 9.7% as a percentage of our national GDP. Then a “once in a century” financial crisis rocked the global economy and the Australian government responded with a major fiscal stimulus in order to avoid a recession.
In two years, gross government debt rose to 16.7% of GDP and while this is extremely low in comparison to other countries, it still represents a 72% increase in debt. But the rise in debt doesn’t end there; through persistent budget deficits over the next decade, Australia’s gross debt rose from an average of almost 10% to 47.5% of GDP by 2019.
