Philadelphia Eagles Training Camp has arrived!

What felt like an eternity since the final seconds of Super Bowl 57, the NFL offseason is officially over. On today's episode, host Bill Colarulo, Esq. takes a look at his top storylines as we enter training camp.

  1. Health. Last season the Philadelphia Eagles were one of the healthiest teams in football with all 22 opening day starters appearing in the Super Bowl. Football Outsiders ranked the Eagles as the 3rd best in the NFL in terms of adjuster games lost to injury with only 42.4 games lost. Staying healthy, as always, is the most important part of training camp. Something Nick Sirianni focuses on with shorter, more efficient practices.

  2. Who will win the right guard position? Starting Right Guard Isaac Seumola left for the Pittsburgh Steelers in free agency leaving an opening on the Eagles dominant offensive line. There are 3 options to fill the void. 2nd year player Cam Jurgens. Rookie Tyler Steen. And 4th year utility lineman Jack Driscoll. Bill gives his opinion on who wins the job.

  3. Who will be the WR3 on this offense this season? A lot of fans had high hopes for Quez Watkins going into 2022, but some costly mistakes and missed opportunities culminated a very disappointing 2022 campaign for Quez. The Eagles bring in local kid, Olamida Zaccheaus from the Atlanta Falcons to compete with Quez. This should be an intriguing battle throughout training camp.

  4. Who will be the starting linebackers on defense? The Philadelphia Eagles lost both starting linebackers from 2022 in T.J. Edwards and Kyzir White. Eagles brass and fans are hopeful Nakobe Dean can be the player he was at Georgia and be a dominant force i the middle of that defense. However, Dean has only played 34 snaps in the NFL. Is he ready? The other linebacker position will be filled by either newcomer Nicholas Morrow from the Chicago Bears or special teams player Christian Ellis. Training camp will reveal a lot about the linebacker position.

  5. Who will be the starting safeties on defense? Similar to the linebacker position, the Philadelphia Eagles lost both starters at the safety position in Marcus Epps and Chauncey Gardner Johnson. Can Reed Blankeship build off of a solid rookie season to solidify the safety position? Is Terrell Edumunds, the free agent acquisition from the Pittsburgh Steelers good enough? Can Rookie Sydney Brown step in and play at the NFL level? Another big storyline heading into training camp.

  6. Who will be the starting running back on this team? The answer is probably no one. With 5 solid options in the running back room, the Philadelphia Eagles will most certainly institute a running back by committee approach this season. But how will they use D'Andre Swift, a true receiving threat from the backfield? Can Rashaad Penny stay healthy and be the beast we saw in Seattle? How will Boston Scott and Kenny Gainwell fit into the mix? Should be fun to watch.

  7. How do the rookies look against NFL talent? Philadelphia Eagles fan everywhere celebrated the 2023 Draft. But that was just on paper. How do rookies Jalen Carter, Nolan Smith, Tyler Steen, Sydney Brown & Kelee Ringo look at the NFL level? If these guys are anything like we are hoping, training camp is going to be a lot of fun.

Be sure to like and follow Legal Hands To The Face on all social media platforms as there are some big announcements coming as we have partnered with the JAKIB Sports Network and will be live streaming shows every Monday night during the season.

Top of the discussion list is the potential signing of wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins, his skills, track record, and how he might fit into the Eagles' offensive structure. A trade for Arizona Cardinals Safety Budda Baker is also discussed. Bill acknowledges Baker's undeniable talent and how his skill set could complement the Eagles' defensive strategy. However, there are questions regarding the feasibility of such a trade given the desire for Baker to get a new substantial contract.

The spotlight is then turned to Nakobe Dean and whether he is ready to claim the starting linebacker position for the Eagles. The consensus is that Dean has the potential and raw talent, but questions remain over whether he can seamlessly step into such a crucial role in the team's defense.

The episode further deepens its analysis with player breakdowns of running back Boston Scott, cornerback Avonte Maddox, and tackle Jordan Mailata. Bill commends Scott's versatility, although there are concerns over his ability to handle a larger workload. What a NFL Draft for Howie Roseman and the Philadelphia Eagles!

On this episode of the Podcast we review all of the moves from the 2023 NFL Draft including trading up to take arguably the best player in the draft, Jalen Carter from that record setting Georgia Bulldog defense. We also look at how the Philadelphia Eagles were able to get Edge Rusher Nolan Smith with their 30th pick, who a lot of people, including Bill Colarulo, thought could be the Eagles' pick at number 10.

We also look at all of Howie Roseman's top moves since that horrible Jalen Reagor pick in 2020. He is a different person!

Somehow the Eagles also leave the weekend with a new running back, D'Andre Swift from the Detroit Lions! Another smart move by Howie Roseman. We look at an element of offense that Swift will bring to the Eagles that was missing last year.

We also analyze the later round moves including Offensive Lineman Tyler Steen; Safety Sydney Brown and Cornerback Kelee Ringo.

A great weekend! As always, Go Birds!

The NFL Draft is only a few weeks away and the Philadelphia Eagles have six selections with two of them coming in the first round. The Eagles are slated to pick #10, #30, #62, #94, #219 and #248. The big question, in addition to who the Eagles will draft, is if General Manager Howie Roseman will actually draft at these spots are make trades like he always does. In this episode we take a look at Howie Roseman's history of moving around in the draft.

With the Eagles having two first round picks (assuming Howie doesn't make any trades - a big assumption) the more Quarterbacks drafted in the 1st round, the better. With a run on quarterbacks early, some really good players could fall to the Eagles. We take a look at the following prospects this week:

Jalen Carter - Defensive Tackle, University of Georgia;
Devon Witherspoon - Cornerback, University of Illinois
Nolan Smith - Edge Rusher, University of Georgia;
Christian Gonzalez - Cornerback, University of Oregon
Bijan Robinson - Running Back, University of Texas

We look at the pros and cons of each prospect for this Eagles team.

There has been a theme so far this offseason for Howie Roseman and the Philadelphia Eagles. A lot of low risk, high reward moves. We knew going into this offseason that there was going to be some changes on both sides of the ball. The Eagles lose Running Back Miles Sanders & Guard Isaac Seumola on offense. They lose Defensive Tackle Javon Hargrave, Linebackers TJ Edwards and  Kyzir White, Safeties Marcus Epps and Chauncey Gardner Johnson. But the moves that have been made to replace these players are very promising.

We take a look at the moves and contracts for new additions Running Back Rashaad Penny, Quarterback Marcus Mariota, Linebacker Nicholas Morrow, Cornerback Greedy Williams, and Safeties Terrell Edmunds and Justin Evans.  All of these players were signed to 1 year deals with a lot to prove.

We also discuss what all these new players could mean for the culture of this Philadelphia Eagles team and who is responsible for bringing all these players together.

We then evaluate the (way too early) projected starters for both the offense and defense of the Philadelphia Eagles and why this is another season where Eagles fans should be hopeful the Eagles are in the conversation to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl.

As always, we talk about it all.

As Free Agency Continues for the Philadelphia Eagles and the entire NFL, host Bill Colarulo welcomes his college quarterback, longtime friend and outspoken New York Giants Fan, Jersey Joe, to discuss the changes in the NFC East.

Bill starts the show discussing the changes to the Philadelphia Eagles roster including re-signing James Bradberry and Darius Slay, while losing Chauncey Gardner Johnson. Bill also discusses some recent signings on the Philadelphia Eagles defense, bringing in starting Linebacker Nicholas Morrow & Safety Justin Evans.

Bill and Jersey Joe then discuss the decisions by the Eagles and New York Giants, especially the signing of Daniel Jones to a massive deal and the franchise tag for Saquon Barkley. Joe feels the Giants are the team to beat in the NFC East. Bill thinks he is crazy.

NFL Free Agency continues and it has already been a rollercoaster for the Philadelphia Eagles and their fans. We analyze all the free agent signings and losses to date.

On Offense the Philadelphia Eagles were able to re-sign Jason Kelce and Boston Scott while adding newcomer Rashaad Penny from the Seattle Seahawks. Bill Colarulo takes a look at running back Rashaad Penny and what Eagles' fans can expect from him. Bill also examines the deal Miles Sanders received from the Carolina Panthers and why it made sense for the Eagles to let Sanders walk and replace him with Penny, Scott, Kenny Gainwell & Trey Sermon. Bill also discusses what the return of Jason Kelce means for the rest of that offensive line.

On Defense the Eagles lose a bunch of starters from the 2022 team. Starting defensive tackle Javon Hargrave received a massive deal from rival San Francisco 49ers while starting linebackers TJ Edwards & Kyzir White move on to the Chicago Bears and Arizona Cardinals, respectively. The Eagles also lose starting safety Marcus Epps to the Las Vegas Raiders. Fortunately, the Eagles were able to re-sign leaders Brandon Graham and Flether Cox and somehow maintain their cornerback room by bringing back both James Bradberry and Darius Slay (although it looked like Slay was on his way out for a few hours).

On the first day of the NFL's Free Agency Tampering Period, the Philadelphia Eagles Defense loses a lot of key pieces. Linebacker TJ Edwards goes to the Chicago Bears. Javon Hargrave goes to the San Francisco 49ers. These losses may have been anticipated but they still hurt. The only good news of the day is that Center and Philadelphia Legend, Jason Kelce, announces that he is coming back for another season.

As frustrating as some of these losses might have been, we take a look at some of the key moves that Howie Roseman has made in the past and when those moves were made. Most moves are not made on the first day. This is a long offseason.

We also take a look at Howie Roseman's defensive draft picks over the last 3 years and whether fans should be concerned.

The Philadelphia Eagles offseason continues with more change. In addition to losing both coordinators, Shane Steichen & Jonathan Gannon, to head coaching jobs, the Eagles also lose position coach Nick Rallis and Defensive Passing Game Coordinator Dennard Wilson. Many, including host Bill Colarulo, thought Dennard Wilson was the next defensive coordinator of this team. He was a good coach and the players liked him. Darius Slay and Chauncey Gardner-Johnson said on twitter that they wanted him to get his chance. It didn't happen. The Philadelphia Eagles hired Sean Desai from the Seattle Seahawks and either mutually parted ways with Wilson or fired him depending on who you listen to. What does this kind of change do to the culture of the Philadelphia Eagles? All of this with pending veteran free agents like Jason Kelce, Brandon Graham and Fletcher Cox. The Eagles need to make the right decisions in free agency to make sure they bring back enough veterans but don't overpay for them either. Bill also discusses the Philadelphia Eagles decision to avoid using the Franchise Tag on any pending free agents. This was not surprising considering the Eagles have not used the tag since 2012 on Desean Jackson. Bill discusses who the potential candidates were for the tag and why the Eagles don't like using the tag.

The Philadelphia Eagles offseason continues with still many question marks left to be answered. No offensive or defensive coordinator has been named but the big lingering question is what will a new contract for Jalen Hurts look like. In this episode Bill Colarulo examines the other top quarterback contracts in the league and what that could mean for the Eagles and Hurts. Bill also considers what impact a new contract for Hurts could have on the rest of the offense. Does Jason Kelce come back? Do the Eagles re-sign Isaac Seumola or Andre Dillard along that offensive line? Miles Sanders and Boston Scott are also free agents. What do the Eagles do at running back next season. Bill also takes a look at the third wide receiver from this past season, Quez Watkins, and whether the Eagles will attempt to upgrade this position.  As always, we will talk about it all.

The only constant in the NFL is change. The 2023 offseason has started with a lot of change already for the Philadelphia Eagles. Both offensive and defensive coordinators have left for head coaching jobs. Offensive Coordinator Shane Steichen goes to the Indianapolis Colts and Defensive Coordinator Jonathan Gannon becomes the head coach for the Arizona Cardinals. In this episode we will discuss who are the likely replacements.

Nick Sirianni has announced that Special Teams Coordinator Michael Clay will be returning in 2023. We analyze this decision and why the Special Teams unit struggles this past season.

We also take an early look at the many free agents for the Philadelphia Eagles including notable players like Fletcher Cox, Brandon Graham, Javon Hargrave, Jason Kelce, James Bradberry, Isaac Seumalo, TJ Edwards, Kyzir White, Chauncey Garden Johnson, Miles Sanders, Boston Scott, Marcus Epps and Gardnew Minshew. Howie Roseman has his work cut out for him this offseason trying to deliver another Super Bowl Eagles Team.

On February 12, 2023, The Philadelphia Eagles, led by their MVP caliber quarterback, Jalen Hurts, marched into State Farm Stadium in Arizona for Super Bowl 57, with the chance to go down as the greatest team in Philadelphia Eagles, and quite possibly Philadelphia Sports, history. What looked like it could be yet another stress-free win for the Eagles up 24-14 at halftime with a hobbled Patrick Mahomes, turned into heartbreak in the 2nd half. The field at State Farm stadium was a mess (be better NFL) but that 2nd half performance was even worse. The old cliché, a tale of two halfs, could not be any more appropriate than for Super Bowl 57. In the first half the young, brash Nick Sirianni was thoroughly outcoaching his future Hall of Fame counterpart in Andy Reid, taking a 24-14 lead into the locker room. During the extended halftime show (29 minutes), Andy and his long-time assistant Eric Bienemy dialed up some adjustments on offense and came out in the 2nd half and absolutely dominated the Eagles defense. The statistics are mind boggling. What the Chiefs Offensive Line was able to do to the Eagles rush defense was as much a shock as anything. 1st half the Chiefs had only 39 yards rushing but put up 119 in the second half averaging over 6 yards per carry! Jonathan Gannon, the defensive coordinator for the Eagles, has been a polarizing figure all year in Philadelphia. Although the defense has been great and setting historic numbers in the sack department, fans did not like his style of play. Sadly, those complaints were realized in the Super Bowl. Gannon’s reluctance to change his defensive scheme and big pressure from more than just his front 4 was costly. The Eagles were unable to generate a single sack against Mahomes and he just picked them apart with a quarterback rating of over 130. And on a team that went 14-3, there were not many weak spots this season, but Michael Clay’s Special Teams unit was certainly one of them. The Special Teams weaknesses were talked about and feared, but with a team as good as the Eagles, the fans and front office hoped this would not be a problem. Our fears were realized on the biggest stage. 2 punts for a net average of 9 yards and allowing a Giants cast off in Toney to change the game with a return of 65 yards (the longest in SB history) down to the 5-yard line. Leading to another KC touchdown. This game will sting for the rest of our lives as fans. But it was not all bad. HURTS WAS MAGNIFICENT IN THIS GAME. Behind an offensive line that was not having its best game, with really no running game other than himself and suspect play calling at times, Hurts’ stat line to finish the game: 27/38 Passing for 304 yards 1 TD, QRT 103.4; 15 for 70 on the ground with 3 TDS; Rushing 2-point conversion. And what I loved most about Hurts in this game was that on the biggest stage in front of the entire sports world, not only did he deliver, but look at the times he faced adversity and what he did after. Horrible freak fumble leads to a TD, what does he do? Hurts comes back and leads the team on a 12 play 75-yard TD drive. On that drive he goes for 45 rushing yards including a 28-yard run on 4th and 5 and finished the drive off with a rushing TD. Down 35-27 with only 9 minutes left in the 4th quarter? Hurts leads the team on an 8 play 75-yard TD drive and the tying 2 point conversion. On that drive he was 3/3 passing for 63 yards, a rushing TD and the rushing 2-point conversion. You Really can’t ask for more from our franchise QB on the biggest stage at only 24 years old. The Eagles will face a lot of questions now. Which free agents do you re-sign? Which veterans to you say goodbye to? How much do you pay Hurts? What do we do in the draft? Free agency? All those questions will be answered another day. But today, and for a long time, we think about what could have been.
