During his athletic career, Bismillah was a D1 collegiate athlete at Virginia Commonwealth University (also known as VCU) where he was on the track & field and cross country teams. In cross country, he competed in events such as the 6K, 8K, and 10K.

Following his collegiate career, he served as an assistant track & field coach at Virginia Union.
