Today in conversation with India's #firstprofessional woman #naturalist/ranger Ratna Singh. She passed out from the first Ranger Training School/course which started way back in 2006 by the Taj group - The Taj Safaris Naturalist Training programme. She was from the #firstbatch that qualified from that training school. At present she works in an independent capacity for the #forestdepartment of India. Ratna Singh also believes that #sustainibility and #forestconservation go in tandem with each other. And there is a need to include the #tribalcommunities in building a successful #wildlifetourism since they can benefit from the vast forest resources for livelihood. Working with people who live on the outskirts of protected areas is of uttermost importance as they need to start seeing the jungle as a good source of income instead than only focusing on its remoteness.

She imparts training to the #guides and frontline workers of the forest department of India. Ratna has also mentored the first batch of #tribalgirls being trained to become skilled #trackers.
