Mike Clinton is a Professor in Work Psychology at King's Business School. Mike first joined King’s College London over 20 years. He has taken many roles during his tenure, and recently was Programme Director for the Business Management BSc programme. Since January 2022, Mike has been Head of the Human Resource Management & Employment Relations Research Group.
Mike’s research focuses on worker wellbeing and effectiveness. He is particularly interested in how worker wellbeing and effectiveness can be sustained together over long periods of time and how they can come into conflict with each other and potentially breakdown. He is interested in the role of worker behaviour, worker attitudes and worker’s orientation to work in shaping how worker wellbeing and effectiveness unfolds. His recent research projects have involved studies of vocational callings as double-edge swords and how a demanding day at work can turn workers into risky drivers on the way home afterwards. Mike’s work draws on psychological theories about self-determined motivation, self-control, and recovery from work.
Mike has conducted studies in a number of UK organisations including the Armed Services, the NHS, retail banks, Higher Education institutions, the Equality and Human Rights Commission and, most recently, the Church of England. He has published in many of the top international journals in his field, including the Journal of Management Journal of Organizational Behavior, Journal of Occupational & Organizational Psychology, Journal of Vocational Behavior, Journal of Occupational Health Psychology, and Human Resource Management Journal.

Moral injury refers to the lasting strong cognitive and emotional response that is caused by witnessing, or failing to prevent an action that goes against our own values and beliefs.
More evidence of moral injury in a business setting is required which is why we conducted this innovative new research with Sheffield University.
All the people interviewed who suffered moral injury eventually left their employer. What a loss of talent!

Natalia Tsarkova, Tribo founder and CEO, first understood the power of media when, as a little girl in Latvia, she saw the music video for Michael Jackson’s “Billy Jean”. She credits that “Aha” moment for giving her an impulse to apply to Harvard years later, and to become the first student from the former Soviet block to be accepted at an Ivy League school.
After graduating Magna Cum Laude from Harvard College, Natalia followed up with a Masters Degree in Interactive Cinema at the MIT Media Lab. Her work on the “television of the future” led to high-profile consulting contracts with Sony Entertainment, Intel, Apple Corps (the Beatles estate) and IMG.
In 2005 she set up Transmedia Communications – at the time a pioneer in the field of digital rights and video aggregation. Transmedia provided lucrative content packages to telecoms across Europe and built on this successful base to create the first 360 global live music TV/ VOD channel iConcerts, which became available in over 100 countries across the world.
Having successfully sold iConcerts to a Canadian media group in 2014, Natalia took a short sabbatical to think of what she will do next and to direct an Arte documentary “Kings of the World” – an intimate portrait of the Gypsy Kings family and their world. This immersion in a “collective consciousness” of the gypsy culture helped define the vision for her next company: Tribo.
Based on a patented technology, Tribo is a perfect communication platform for purpose or interest-driven digital communities. Pre-launch, it was already used in Switzerland by a number of corporate clients as well as Verbier Music Festival, Swiss Digital Day, Hublot Polo Gold Cup, Zurich Film Festival, ZFF Industry Summit and other events. Tribo strongest application today is in the corporate and online learning market. Following successful case studies with Google in Indonesia and with corporate clients in the Middle East, Tribo is launching globally in 2022.

Liane Hornsey, chief people officer at Palo Alto Networks talks about how their flex network approach is allowing them to get high employee engagement and how they are prioritising mental health and well being in the workplace.
Liane Hornsey joined Palo Alto Networks as chief people officer in September 2018. Liane previously served as chief people officer at Uber Technologies, Inc. where she helped transform the culture during a period of significant turbulence. Prior to that, she served as chief administrative officer and operating partner at SoftBank Group International. In this role she traveled the globe helping portfolio companies scale and achieve unsurpassed human capital success. For almost ten years before joining SoftBank, Liane led People Operations for Google’s Global Business and became Google’s first female vice president in human resources.
“Our employee engagement is super high, but it's as high for women as it is for men, and it's as high for underrepresented minorities in the US as it is for non diverse people. And I am convinced that is because putting people central enables individuals no matter who they are, to have choice in what they do and how they receive various things at work. So the diversity advantages have been seriously considerable and that's so exciting to see.”

Joe Ryle is on a mission to change the way we structure our work week -- gone are the 5-day working weeks where people are dead most of the week and looking forward to two days for relief. Join his campaign to persuade corporations and governments to prioritise mental health over stress and low productivity.
Summary
Stress is the workplace crisis that is causing mental health problems around the world. That’s because the average employee is expected to clock in about 40 or 50 hours across five days, with a short two-day reprieve. The short recovery time often means no actual recovery is achieved, which means the previous week’s exhaustion carries over to the next. The accumulation causes burnout and it’s only a matter of time before the workplace is filled with zombies. Tune in for how a 4-day work week could solve all sorts of problems, both expected and unexpected.
