Did you know that Bristol, Indiana is the Corndog Capital of the World?! We did and we’re so excited to be celebrating this fun fact on Saturday, September 23.
Then we hear all the details about the Nappanee Apple Festival, happening this weekend (September 14-17)! The festival is home to Indiana's largest 7-foot baked apple pie is known for its family-friendly atmosphere, fun activities and a lot of shopping.

Dave and Brock share a bit about The Prom, which is the last show remaining in the 2022-2023 season. But don't fret because they share ALL the excitement about the upcoming 2023-2024 seasonwhich includes Sweeney Todd, Finding Nemo, Jr., Clue, a ECT original Well Crafted radio play and so much more! We also talk about The Michael Cripe Studio, the Elkhart Civic Theatre’s annual two-week day camps for area youth. Designed for children from 8 to 18 years of age, the Storytellers’ Theatre camp and the Musical Theatre Fast-track camp at the Bristol Opera House offer many students their first experiences on stage in a close, friendly learning environment.
Then we wrap up with Jim and Amanda from the Boys and Girls Clubs of Elkhart County. They share information on one of their FUNdraisers, BBQ & Brew Fest. Baseball is America’s favorite pastime, and for a good reason. There’s something about the sound of a bat hitting a ball, the smell of freshly cut grass, and the excitement of a close game that brings people together. But what’s even more fun than watching a baseball game? Being able to see a brand-new team kick off their season right here in Elkhart County. We kick off this episode hearing from Elkhart County Miracle President and team founder Craig Wallin. He tells us about all the fun things planned for this season and who we can see throwing out some of the first celebratory pitches of the season.
Then we learn more about the Elkhart Public Library's Curbside Concerts from Trevor Wendzonka, the chief marketing officer for the Elkhart Public Library. Curbside Concerts this spring are all about reunions, good music, great friends and as always, these concerts are free. In this episode, we talk to Andy Jones, Elkhart Municipal Airport Manager for the city of Elkhart. Andy tells us all about the air show and WWII reenactment “Salute to Veterans World War II” event that will be held on May 20 and May 21 at the Elkhart Airport. It’s a big deal for Elkhart as the last air show was held 17 years ago and it's jam-packed with a lot of fun, exciting, historical and just simply cool things all weekend! We asked him what spectators will see and we talked all about German Tanks, Corsairs, P51 Mustangs, Multiple Stunt Planes, a General George Patton Impersonator, a 1942 Douglas C-53 Skytrooper with in Uniform crew, AND MORE.
Then we chat to Courtney Franke, mill manager at Bonneyville Mill County Park, located in Bristol. He explains the history and heritage behind the Mill at Bonneyville, the process of making flour at the mill and how you may just be greeted with the smell of freshly baked goods when you visit.

In this episode, we talk to Cami and Michelle with Visit Nappanee and they share all of the fun planned for Taste of Nappanee and Spring Artisan Market. This annual event, held outside on the beautiful grounds of The Barns at Nappanee, is a fantastic way to experience a number of the exciting restaurants and businesses that make Nappanee their home. Businesses set up booths and give guests a "taste" of what they have to offer. You can enjoy samples of food from many of Nappanee's eateries, bakeries, and more! In addition, over 60 local artisans will have booths set up to share and sell their handcrafted items. Live music by Big Daddy Dupree will fill the grounds of The Barns while you celebrate all things Nappanee!
Then we chat with Trevor Daugherty, a studio potter in Goshen and executive director and co-founder of the Northern Indiana Clay Alliance. Trevor shares about how the NICA's mission centers around providing opportunities for regional artists while preserving the 300-year history of clay in northern Indiana (because, guess what - there is a scientific reason northern Indiana has so many great potters!). You can find beauty everywhere on the Elkhart County Art Trail and as the listeners know we celebrated 15 fabulous years of Quilt Gardens with world-renowned sculptor Seward Johnson’s stunningly realistic life-size bronze sculptures. But that wasn't all! Talented artists joined the celebration, with their creative and playful takes on public art around every corner on the Heritage Trail.
On this episode, we chat with Lynn DeClemente Losavio, Program Officer at The Seward Johnson Atelier. Building on the legacy of the Johnson Atelier Technical Institute and School of Sculpture, The Seward Johnson Atelier promotes the appreciation of and education about sculpture and public art through the creation, maintenance, sales and public placement of Seward Johnson’s sculpture. The Seward Johnson Atelier is the exclusive owner of copyright in Seward Johnson’s sculpture and is committed to educating the public about his artistic legacy. Lynn talks about how Seward Johnson got his inspiration for the over 400 sculptures, how they are created and just why they look so lifelike.
Then we chat with Josh Cooper, an incredible muralist from Goshen. Josh started painting and creating when he was young and growing up in Chicago, he was fascinated with street art and graffiti. Find out how he went from his passion for graffiti to putting his work on canvases and diving more into "legal" art. The Elkhart County CVB is proud to unveil a new Josh Cooper mural featuring the new IN Indiana branding later in October.

So many fun memories, stunning gardens, amazing visitors, superb volunteers, great photos and so much more! As we've said on this podcast before, celebrating with Quilt Gardens with the Epic Art Adventures has been so much fun!

This experience officially ended on September 15, but we just couldn't let the fun stop so some gardens are hanging out for a little bit longer! Downtown Goshen’s groovy VolksFest packs an evening full of the things Goshen loves most: local “volks,” food and beer, downtown shopping, live music, family activities, and a showcase of area-owned VOLKSwagen Beetles and Buses! Plus, because the July First Friday event was rained out they are combining the September VW showcase with the Classic Car show from July, so there will be something for everyone! We also chat about the 9th annual Arts on the Millrace, an annual juried event along the Millrace Canal starting at Powerhouse Park, featuring local artists. Add in music, food, and drink to make this the perfect day to celebrate the region’s art and kid-friendly activities make this perfect for the whole family.
Then gear up for the Nappanee Apple Festival! This festival is home to Indiana's largest 7-foot baked apple pie and comes out of the oven just in time to kick off the festival! With the festival attracting an average of more than 80,000 people annually, it has become one of the largest festivals in the state of Indiana! You'll learn more about the shopping, entertainment, rides and delicious apple pie!
And you'll want to make plans to attend the Middlebury Fall Festival! Amish food, crafters, demonstrations and live entertainment happen in the downtown parks. Friday morning kicks off the fun with vendors, woodworkers and carvers plus kid-friendly activities. Friday night features a Pork Chop fundraiser, a family-friendly movie and fireworks. Saturday highlights include a Sausage and Pancake fundraiser, jeep show, corn hole tournament, children’s activities, live entertainment and more.

On this episode, we catch up with Vince Turner. Vince is a voice legend here in Elkhart County and has called Elkhart County home since 1977. His love for the community shows in his involvement with the Boys & Girls Club, CAPS, Elkhart Chamber of Commerce, Goshen Chamber of Commerce and the Greencroft Community Foundation. He has also been the official storytelling voice of the Heritage Trail for nearly 30 years!

First we learn more about RUHE152, a fun and inviting bistro, brewery and distillery located in Nappanee, Indiana. Co-owner Kami Tuttle is joined by Head Brewer David Michael and Executive Chef Zach Lucchese in sharing the story behind the beautiful building, how their made-from-scratch kitchen features a very eclectic line up of fresh, farm to table ingredients and dishes plus how their 14 beers on tap at any given time, represents just about every style, texture and color of beer you can think of!
Then Eric Garton, the Robert and Peggy Weed Executive Director at Wellfield Botanic Gardens, tells us more about this incredible gem in the city of Elkhart. Wellfield Botanic Gardens is a 36-acre 'living museum' open throughout the year featuring special events, concerts, holiday lights, education workshops, children and family programming, and facility rentals for special events. Eric walks us through the different seasons at Wellfield and gives us a little bit of a teaser on what's new this year.
And we wrap up by learning more about the Wakarusa Maple Syrup Festival from Deb Shively with the Wakarusa Chamber. Deb gives an overview about this fun event happening April 22 - 24, 2022.

Brittany co-owner of Pumpkinvine Cyclery in Middlebury and she tell us more about what led her to be one of the biggest cheerleaders for the Pumpkinvine Nature Trail, a rails-to-trails biking and walking trail that covers just over 17 miles between the towns of Goshen, Middlebury, and Shipshewana.
And finally, we catch up with Brian Byrn, Curator of Exhibitions & Education, at the Midwest Museum of American Art in downtown Elkhart. Brian’s charismatic personality combined with his depth of knowledge about art and iconic handlebar mustache makes the experience at the MMAA top-notch and he shares with listeners how he came to Elkhart (and never left!) along with some of his favorite pieces in the museum.

Then we chat to Courtney Franke, mill manager at Bonneyville Mill County Park, located in Bristol. He explains the history and heritage behind the Mill at Bonneyville, the process of making flour at the mill and how you may just be greeted with the smell of freshly baked goods when you visit.
And finally, we learn more about Earth Day from Jeff Zavatsky and Annie Klehfoth from the Elkhart Environmental Center. They tell us about various Earth Day activities they have planned for the entire month of April.

The history of the Essenhaus is a story of growth, commitment, and genuine hospitality. In 1970, Bob and Sue Miller moved west from Sugarcreek, Ohio to Middlebury, Indiana. After arriving in Middlebury, the Miller’s purchased property on U.S. 20. The property contained a small 24-hour truck stop known as Everett’s Highway Inn. After a week of minor repairs and cleaning, they reopened January 4, 1971, as an Amish-style restaurant complete with Amish and Mennonite cooks and waitstaff. Hear about how they got started in the restaurant business, why they decided to become hoteliers, how COVID-19 impacted business, and more in this fascinating podcast.
