I’m always saddened that Sarah is often reduced to the one who laughed at God’s promise to give her child at the age of 90. We all falter in our faith from time to time. Thirty years is a long time to wait for a promise, and Sarah did not always wait gracefully. But do we?
What does waiting look like for you? Do you try to rush God’s plan by helping it along? Do you get angry? Do you numb or distract yourself? Do you get depressed?
It is in Genesis 11 that we meet Sarai, later Sarah, but it is not until chapter 21 that we see God’s promise fulfilled in her life. These ten chapters span 30 years. Have you ever had to wait 30 years for a promise from God? How about 30 days? How about 30 minutes? No matter how long the wait, we grow impatient. What we do with this impatience can make our lives more difficult or lead us closer to God. Today we will look at the story of Sarah with a sideline into the story of Lot’s wife. Ever wonder why her story was put as a commercial break in the story of Abraham and Sarah’s promise? Today I’ll share why.

Mama, I know you face sorrows in motherhood just like I do. The feeling that your mistakes may pass on to your children, the sadness when you feel like you are doing everything right, but the outcome is not what you had hoped for, the trials of dealing with your children's bad choices and watching them suffer the consequences. Motherhood is no light journey.
Eve was not only sent from her garden due to her own sin, but her first son murdered her other son. She was in the throws of disappointment. But God gave her a third son to carry on the line of faith that would lead to a redeemer.
We, too, have hope. We have each other to carry the weight of motherhood together, and we have a redeemer. Eve's story brings us face to face with a reality we all face...overcoming sin and longing for redemption. Let's enter and learn from our faith family's first lady.

As we learn about the women woven into God's great redemption story, we start with Eve. Eve's life shows the perfection God intended for us and how sin distorts it. It also shows how sin distorts us. When Eve took that fruit and ate, the next thing she did was invite Adam into sin her. Each sin takes them further from God. Let's learn about Eve's influence and how she abused it and reflect on our influence as women.
This season I will follow a format of a teaching episode and then a guest episode to help us dig into the application of the teaching and to hear stories of encouragement. Next week I have guest Heather Shriver Burns who will talk about using our influence for good and bouncing back after mistakes or a season of hardship.

Episode 2 in a 4 part series. We cannot move from the space between what was into the space of what is next without healing some of our brokenness and letting go of bitterness. Bitterness unchecked will strangle every bit of happiness from our lives so it’s extremely important to heal in this area. Listen in as I share how overcoming bitterness and offering grace to others inside and outside the church is the way to healing brokenness in our own hearts.
