This podcast offers a platform to Share, Learn and Grow across most areas of sustainability in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG's) with a specific focus on all things African.

In this episode, we talk to Elizabeth Brown, Founder of COCOON South Africa, a sustainable local brand that uses Recycled Plastic and Upcycled Cotton. Libby grew up between the Uk and SA. Libby started her career as an educator and moved on to start her first business in stationery before moving on to what is now known as COCOON South Africa an award-winning brand in South Africa designing and producing sustainable bags and homeware items. In her spare time, she enjoys swimming and walking. She is married to her childhood sweetheart of 23 years and they have 3 children.

Period Poverty affects over 7 million women in South African and millions more across the globe. It is a lack of access to sanitary products and forces many to use unhygienic alternatives in place of pads, tampons, and the like.
Our guest today talks about her journey in starting her NPO PadsRus in a bid to help end Period Poverty in local communities. Mangkgateng Seshibe is an economics graduate, a (YALI) young African leaders initiative alumni, founder and chairperson of Padsrus, and an entrepreneur. She founded Eden events in 2018 an events coordination Business that added a gifting company in 2020 called EdenGiftings. In 2019 she was chosen by inside education as one of the top 100 shining stars in South Africa.
Mangkgateng is passionate about women's empowerment and is continuing to work hard to grow her business and NPO.
Her NPO PadsRus has been Running for the past 7 years. Not only do they donate pads and toiletries to underprivileged women but they help young women achieve their goals and empower them to reach their full potential.

The Business of Ethical and Sustainable Fashion can be very complex. My guest today is an Ethical Fashion Brand founder and she talks to us about her journey of starting Mayamiko.
Paola is an impact entrepreneur and founder of award-winning, responsible fashion label Mayamiko, which counts Meghan Markle amongst its fans. Paola is also the founder of women empowerment charity Mayamiko Trust, working in Malawi delivering economic and social empowerment programmes with women and for women. Malawi is where much of the production for Mayamiko takes place, creating a sustainable economic model for local partners.
Paola’s background combines digital innovation and marketing, linguistics and communication, and international development.
Paola has recently created Madeby_, a technology solution developed based on her fashion industry experience, aimed at increasing trust and transparency, and combatting greenwashing.
Born and raised in Milan, Italy, with family in Australia and Sri Lanka, over the last 20 years Paola has lived in Germany, the UK and Malawi, making her a true world citizen… still, she can’t start the day without a good cappuccino!

Sipumelele Lucwaba is the Lead: Strategy and Grant Management at Funda Wande and she talks us through the current state of Education in South Africa and some of the efforts being made by Organisations like Funda Wande to focus on the foundation phase of Education as learners move through the system. Quality Education is a goal highlighted across different developmental frameworks such as the Sustainable Development Goals 2030, National Development Plan in South Africa, and of course the African Union Agenda 2063.
