In this episode, I share a powerful self-awareness moment that unfolded during my son's first high school football camp. What began as empathy quickly revealed itself as something else—projected anxiety, assumptions, and imposter syndrome I was unknowingly carrying on his behalf.
I explore the difference between empathy, being an empath, and projected empathy—and how this subtle but impactful emotional projection shows up in leadership. You'll hear real-life leadership examples, what to do when you recognize this in yourself, and why showing up with trust instead of assumption changes everything.

When life feels uncertain—whether it’s due to organizational change, societal shifts, or personal transitions—it can be hard to feel like we’re “thriving.” In this episode, I explore a question a client recently asked: “Is there a module on thriving through uncertainty?” We unpack that word thriving, examine why uncertainty is so unsettling for our brains, and walk through practical ways to manage ourselves and support others during those uncertain in-between moments.
I also revisit key concepts from Episodes 113 and 114 about navigating change and transition, including the Bridges Transition Model and the role of personality preferences. You'll learn how uncertainty affects our emotions, bodies, and behaviors—and how to regain a sense of agency with exercises like identifying fears, controlling the controllables, and leaning into connection.
Uncertainty doesn’t require perfection—it asks for presence, awareness, and self-compassion. Let’s talk about how to lead through it.

Leadership is about the human experience.
As a leader, your role is more than just making decisions and driving results—it’s about how you show up in those moments. Whether you’re inspiring a team, leading through change, or delivering tough news, the way you communicate and engage with people matters just as much as the outcomes themselves.
In this episode, we explore a real-world example of a leadership misstep in change management and break down why the human experience should always be at the forefront. Leadership isn’t just about strategy and execution—it’s about people. The way you lead determines whether employees feel valued, heard, and engaged, or demotivated and disconnected.
We also discuss:

Part of our human experience is the heightened emotions and stress leaders (and humans) often encounter during major events (like the current 2024 election season).

In this episode, we dive into the debate of luck versus effort - sparked by a quote said by Jim Henson. Is success really a matter of being in the right place at the right time, or is it something we actively create?
I explore how mindset, behaviors, and actions play a crucial role in shaping our outcomes, and whether labeling something as "luck" diminishes our own influence in the process. I thihnk we should challenge the notion of leaving things to chance and instead focusing on how showing up intentionally and being ready for opportunities puts us in control of our results.

In this podcast episode, we dive into the profound power behind the simple word "why." I share insights from a recent leadership development program, where the importance of understanding and utilizing "why" in various contexts became a central theme. We explore how asking "why" can be an invaluable leadership tool for problem-solving, uncovering motivations, creating buy-in, and bringing clarity to both individual and team dynamics. By applying curiosity, leaders can dig deeper into challenges, using techniques like the "Five Whys" to get to the root of issues and truly understand what drives success or failure.
Additionally, we discuss how knowing your personal "why" can ground you in purpose, helping you navigate difficult decisions and align your actions with your core values. From overcoming resistance to change to enhancing self-awareness, this episode highlights the transformative power of asking the right questions, fostering a deeper connection to yourself, your team, and your organization.

In this episode, I share insights from my incredible bucket-list trip with Adventures by Disney in Southern California. This unique experience immersed me in Walt Disney's journey, from his early days in Hollywood to exploring Walt Disney Studios, Imagineering, Disneyland, and Disney's California Adventure.
But the real focus of today’s episode is on the power and magic of having a vision—something that Walt Disney exemplified throughout his life. I discuss how vision is more than a statement; it’s about personal clarity, understanding your purpose, and taking action even in uncertain times. Whether in leadership, work, or life, having a clear vision empowers you to move forward with passion and conviction, bringing your dreams to life.
I reflect on Walt’s perseverance, innovation, and the lessons we can all learn from his ability to inspire others to believe in his vision, including those who helped bring his dreams to fruition.

One of my very favorite characters is Mary Poppins. This episode explores the timeless lessons that can be applied to leadership and life!
Drawing from both the 1964 original film and the 2018 sequel, it highlights themes such as shifting perspectives, incorporating kindness and fun, trusting intuition, and leading with self-awareness. Through memorable quotes and stories, the episode reminds us of the power of looking beyond the surface, honoring unique stories, and focusing energy on the future. I can find leadership (and life) lessons in pretty much anything! When I first saw Disney / Pixar's 'Inside Out 2' when released in June 2024 - the insights were abundanct!
This film isn't just for kids and teens. I have found the connection in the film's portrayal of emotions and sense of self to the importance of emotional intelligence in leadership. Key points include the significance of understanding and managing your emotions, the evolution of personality, and the unhelpful outcomes when we surpress feelings.
I also highlight how leaders can benefit from vulnerable and empathetic approaches, promoting resilience and authenticity within your teams.
Let's learn from this wonderful humanization of our minds!

No judgement - it's a natural reaction to the way our brain works.

Inherent to being a leader is leading others. You are not doing the work or creating the results alone. But it's more than handing out assignments and holding others to it...it's about inspiring, engaging and getting the best out of others.
It's about genuine, authentic connection. It's about helping others own where they thrive, work on what needs working on, honoring their experiences and knowing the value of their contribution.
It's what humans crave and what your team deserves.
When you, as the leader, master the art of having this awareness about those you lead...it's magic.

Part of growing and evolving is having a good dose of self-awareness. It allows us to be intentional, leverage our strengths and embrace what we want to improve on. Self-awareness in itself means that we can see these areas within us.
Yet we all have parts of us that we don't see - but others do. These are called blind spots. With blind spots - others are experiencing us (in 'good' and 'not-so-good' ways) in ways that we are unaware. Our job is to bring those blind spots to our consciousness...adding them into our bucket of awareness. That is where our own power lies.

I believe there is power to authenticity in your leadership, your business and your relationships.
It's being clear on who you are and what is important to you and aligning that with your behaviors. Your own engagement, energy and results will be elevated. This will be felt by those you lead. It's more than a buzzword. It's magic.

Our jobs, our leadership roles, our businesses and our lives can be complex. There is alwasy so much to do and our time is demanded in a variety of ways. It can be easy to lose sight of why we are doing what we are doing in the first place!
When we are out of alignment with our why, our values and/or our purpose - we might experience frustration, dissatisfaction and even burnout.
When we allow ourselves space to shut down...give our calendars and our brains a break...we start to get clear, regain alignment and make decisions from a clean space.
It's rebooting at it's finest.
We talk all about it in this episode!

One of Dr. Brené Brown's impactful quotes / concepts is this:
"Clear is kind. Unclear is unkind."
The upside to taking the time and care to be clear with your message, your expectations, your thoughts, etc. far outweighs the comfort that might come with not being clear.
This is true in your leadership, your business, your relationships and your overall life.
In this episode - I dig deep. Come listen - you will for sure walk away with an ah-ha and a shift in your mindset!

One thing I know is that there is not a shortage of tools, strategies, philosphies, apps, or programs when it comes to elevating leadership skills, starting a business or making a career change. We are fortunate to have so much knowledge at our finger tips!
So why is it that many of us are still stuck, still trying to become more effective, still having trouble being our best leadership selves?
The tools and strategies are the medicine. They provide relief, a sense of progress and a way to maintain.
The magic, however, is when we dig a little deeper. When we get to the root of what is really holding us back. When we elevate awareness and learn how to manage our minds.
It's tapping into that magic that will really create results. Let's talk about it!

We are making tiny and not-so-tiny decisions all of the time. Some don't take much thought. But then there are those that we see as "difficult". We allow ourselves to stay stuck in the "I don't know".
One thing that makes a difference is WHERE we make the decision from. We often make decisions from our past - where we have built up our experience and belief. But what if we made decisions from the future? What if we tapped into the version of us who has created the leadership and the life we most want?
Let's talk about it.

Making decisions on behalf of your team, your organization and your business is a necessary and important skillset...but that isn't what this episode is about. Because making decisions for YOURSELF has just as much, if not more, impact on your everyday, your future self and your desired goals/results.
When we wait to take action in the moment (Do I eat the cupcake in the lunchroom? Should I have the conversation with my team member? Is now the time to ask for that raise?) - our "monkey brain" kicks in. In an effort to protect us from pain or disappointment and bring us immediate joy or comfort - it will tell us to eat the cupcake (one won't hurt)....but don't ask for the raise (not knowing the outcome is scary)...
In this episode - I talk about the why and the how to making decisions ahead of time and how to follow through. Every decision will either take you closer to or further away from your goals.
Take a listen and you'll see why this matters.
Thanks for joining in - I would love to hear what you think!

We also talk about why it is natural for there to be some resistance to change and how to overcome it.

We all know that change is constant. We sure have all endured our fair share over the last several years!
It is critical that leaders know how to effectively lead both themselves and their teams through change. We can have the best change management strategies in the world - but it is the ability to have healthy awareness around the human side (the psychology) of change that will really catapult change success.
In the first of two episodes about leading through change - Angie talks about what change is and shares the William Bridges' Transitions model. Change is situational - transition is psychological. We dig into why knowing this difference matters.

Wouldn't it be great if we always had someone else elevating us, tapping on our shoulder for bigger opportunities, ensuring equity and celebrating our achievements?

In this episode - Angie talks about what feelings are, how they drive our actions and the importance of processing them - all while busting through the stigmas that they carry...especially in the workplace.

Just one little word in a sentence can completely change how that message is received. While we can't control what other people think - we can bring awareness to the possible impacts our words might have.
With that awareness - we are more open to leading with curiosity. This will always cultivate a higher level of trust and connection between the leader the employee (or whomever you are interacting with).
In this short episode - Angie shares examples of how using words like "just" and "only" matter.

We have 50,000 - 70,000 thoughts a day (!) - 95% of which most would classify as negative. That is a lot for our brains to handle! Knowing that our thoughts ultimately create our results - we need to make sure we are intentional about believing thoughts that serve us. However, with so many 'negative' thoughts offered by our brain - we can easily get stuck.
In this episode, Angie talks about what limiting beliefs are, how to identify them and steps you can take to replace them.
"The only limits in your life are the ones you create with your mind." - Unknown
So let's use our mind to create results, not limits.

Mindset is a major component of self-awareness. Intentionally choosing your mindset is possible - and what is even more incredible is that you hold your own power! We often think that our circumstances cause our feelings and results - but it is actually our thoughts. Our thoughts, or mindset, are optional AND we have the power of choice. When we understand this - creating the results we want becomes even more possible. In this episode, Angie shares a tool called "The Model" (adopted from The Life Coach School) to create the picture of how mindset works.

You wear many more hats than just the one of a leader. Sometimes there is an expectation (and sometimes self-imposed) that we need to "check our outside-of-work self at the door." But separating ourselves from our different roles in life doesn’t actually work. In this episode - Angie shares why the “all of you” mindset is important.

We feel it and the people around us feel it too.
