PAUL’S EPISTLE TO THE ROMANS | The church in Rome had existed for some time and was made up of Jewish and non-Jewish followers. But at one point sometime between A.D. 41-53, Emperor Claudius expelled all of the Jewish people, including Christian Jews from Rome and then allowed them to return five years later (see Acts 18:2). When these Jews returned they found a church that had become very non-Jewish in custom and practice. This created lots of tension so that in Paul’s day the Roman Church was divided. People disagreed about how to follow Jesus, they were debating about whether non-Jewish Christians should celebrate the sabbath, eat kosher, or be circumcised. So Paul wrote this letter to accomplish a few things. He wanted this divided church to become unified and for a practical purpose, he was hoping the church would become a staging ground for his mission to go even further west to Spain. For these reasons, Paul wrote Romans. Romans is Paul’s fullest explanation of the gospel; the good news that he was announcing about Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection and it’s effect on Creation and the church.

As we enter this very important milestone year for our church we want to take time for consecration, thanksgiving, and radical dependence on God who has shown himself faithful yesterday, today, and will be forever!

Our 21 Day Fast will also be coupled with a three-week series that will help us look to the God who is always doing a NEW THING. He’s been good to us for 70 years and we trust that he is still working and are asking for 70 more years of fruitful ministry! We've got a lot to share with you in the coming weeks about what we believe God is wanting to do at Light & Life in the next 70 years, in the meantime, dive deep into prayer and fasting and use the daily Scripture & devotional guide below to be guided and encouraged daily. We will be releasing a daily video devotional on our app and social media! Be sure to enable push notifications so you don't miss any of our devotionals and daily reminders!

Church can be both beautiful and messy at the same time. Much of the mess came into the church through the surrounding culture and the incredible diversity. The believers misunderstood what it meant to be free in Christ. There were divisions, squabbles, leadership crises, arrogance, and little love! This all threatened to destroy the beautiful church Paul had planted. In his letter, Paul confronts these divisions with the truth of the gospel in the hope of producing beauty out of a mess! In this series, we will find many parallels to our own culture and will find that God’s word is incredibly relevant to our modern world

In this series, we will find many parallels to our own culture and will find that God’s word is incredibly relevant to our modern world.

Our theme this year comes from the old hymn that invites us to find and behold Christ.

With so many distractions, voices calling for our attention, and the isolation left in the wake of the pandemic, it is easy to go about this season with little thought for Christ. We invite you, God's faithful ones, to intentionally seek Christ so that you may behold him, born the King of Angels!
