In this one, Flender and I talk about National Take Your Teddy Bear to School/Work Day, I learn Flender likes Alf, we discuss how being busy takes away from our tv watching, and Ben from Ozark knocked up Penny from Big Bang Theory. We then move on to discuss our Bengals and Buckeyes, player/fan interactions and proper behavior, when, if ever, a coach should be fired mid-season, and we end with the Brett Favre debacle. We hope you enjoy. Download, share, tell your friends, your enemies, your priest. Share the Midwest Fancy love.
In this one, Flender and I discuss our favorite podcasts, the depressing television shows we continue to watch, and some on Hurricane Ian. We then move on to the lovely world of football, talking some on Big 10 football and a review of the Ohio St Vs. Wisconsin game before moving on to Week 5 preview. We end the show with some talk on the happenings in the NFL and if our Bengals are moving in the right direction. We hope you enjoy!!
In this one, Flender and I discuss the beauty of our country, driving through huge trees, and the capital of Kentucky. We discuss our tv watching habits, including Handmaids Tale, House of the Dragon, Echoes, and The Patient. We then move on to the wild world of both college and professional football. Our Buckeyes are doing fantastic while our Bengals are struggling mightily. As always, we hope you enjoy!
Episode 28 is LIVE!! In this one, we discuss pasta, asshole billionaires, uncles taking nieces to brothels (on a tv show), the dynamic Steve Carrell and then move on to football. What a weird week in both college football and the NFL. we show our passion for those teams we love and still find a way to make Kirk Ferentz question his manhood. As always, we hope you enjoy and share the love that is A Midwest Kind of Fancy.
Episode 27 is LIVE. Flender and I, even though allergy-riddled, are so excited that football season is upon us. We talk how we are late to everything before moving on to a week 1 college football review. We look at week 2 college football before previewing NFL week 1. Ignore the fact that we are wildly biased and enjoy the ride.
In this one, we talk theaters, scientology, Berry tries to get canceled, and the joke that was Week Zero in college football. Then we discuss NFL cut down day, our love for Pat Fitzgerald, hate for Scott Frost, and preview week 1 in college football. We discuss Top 25 games and Big Ten games. Flender and I are big football fans and this is our favorite time of year. We hope you enjoy!
In this one, Flender and I reflect on our first 25 episodes. We speak on banana splits, our tv watching for the week, Vanessa Bryant, Chet Holmgren, and concentrate a large portion on our NFC predictions. We even make our way too early predictions for the Super Bowl. As always, we appreciate you listening and hope you enjoy!
In this one, I (Berry) have a 1on1 conversation with Joe Hall. Joe joined us a few months ago before he started his walk across the country to raise awareness for mental health in our youth population. Joe sits a bit more than halfway through his journey and he took a bit of time to update us on his progress. We talk about some struggles he's faced, some good food he's found, and even a scientific discussion regarding bubble guts. For more information on Joe's journey, please visit www.hallacrossthecountry.com or Hallacrossthecountry on most major social media services. Joe, we at A Midwest Kind of Fancy love you and have your back!!
Well, Deshaun has an official suspension number now, and we discuss. Flender and I also touch on our favorite form of potato, a teenager who rightfully killed his dad, the ridiculous new Big 10 football tv broadcast deal, and a thorough preview of the NFL AFC. We get in depth on each team and division before picking our AFC playoff teams. As always, we hope you enjoy!
This episode might be my (Berry) favorite. Long time friend and fantastic writer for the Dayton Daily News, Marcus Hartman, joined Flender and I to talk Big Ten and Ohio State football. We eased in to it by discussing S'mores, National Lazy Day, and some Deshaun Cosby before doing a deep dive in to the 2022 Big Ten football season. Marcus offered some great insight in to how Ohio State is shaping up, some hurdles they may face, and an overview of the schedule. Flender and I offer our views on Ohio State and Big 10 as a whole. Honored to have Marcus on and excited to be only 3 weeks away from Ohio State Football. We hope you all enjoy!
Warning: The following episode contains two angry middle-aged white dudes talking about sports things that have us extremely upset. Mainly, Brittany Griner and Deshaun Watson. But, for a palette cleanse in the middle, we discuss chicken wings. As always, we hope you enjoy!
In this one, Berry is dealing with covid but we get heated about Deshaun Cosby, the Browns, and the NFL. We also talk about who we'd invite to supper, the exhausting episodes of Stranger Things, the masterpiece that is The Boys, and then more sports stuff. Flender thinks Kyler Murray is too short for $230 million (and not that good), and I agree. We hope you enjoy!
Welcome to episode 20. In this one, Flender and I talk about what matters, our favorite french fries. From there we discuss the Death of the Week before moving to Berry's happy space, known as Johnny Hockey. The Blue Jackets signed the hottest free agent on the market. We then discuss the British Open and the ongoing PGA/LIV battle. We move to a little bit on sports betting and the continued conference re-alignment before discussing the debacle that is the Brittany Griner situation and why Lebron is a moron (part 15). We finish with confirming Zach Wilson's god status. We hope you enjoy. Spread the word!
In this one, Flender and I try to re-discover our groove after a week off. We discuss our favorite candy bars, more on tv (I haven't finished Stranger Things), some on movies, and the passing of legendary actor, James Caan. We then move on to the sports world, where we touch on the ever-changing NCAA conference layout and how it will continue to adapt, the Baker trade before closing out with NBA free agent contracts, the Gobert trade, and the Durant drama. Glad to be back in the saddle and looking forward to a summer full of podcasts.
In this one, Flender's voice makes a triumphant return but the sports world continued to provide us lots of sad, bad, negative things to discuss. We do talk pizza style and copyright of a word before moving on to Deshaun, Saudi Golf, young athletes dying way too young, passing of a football legend, and the Jon Gruden/NFL lawsuit. We hope you enjoy
Oh, hi there. Here is episode 17 for your listening pleasure. Flender isn't feeling well and his voice is disappearing as we go, but much like Jordan's flu game, he steps up to the challenge. We talk mascots, Stranger Things, NBA Finals, Brittany Griner, Deshaun, US Open, and more in this one. We hope you all enjoy!
Oh, hi there. Here is Episode 16 for your listening pleasure. Flender and I discuss the greatness that is Donald Duck and Goofy while thinking Mickey is kind of a jerk. We then move on to talk NBA Finals and players being upset by the F word. Flender and I have some strong feelings on the Deshaun Watson disaster before closing with more talk on the Saudi Golf League and it's momentum. We hope you enjoy!
Oh, hi there. I have to admit, this episode isn't exactly uplifting. Flender and I do start by discussing National Say Something Nice to Someone Day and the Johnny Depp trial & verdict before moving in to the retirements of Frank Gore and Ryan Fitzpatrick. From there, we discuss the tragic passing of Marion Barber and the CTE connection. We end the show with more discussion on the intrigue that is the Saudi Golf League and the announcement of the first pool of players attached. We hope you enjoy!
Oh, hi there. In Episode 14, Flender and I discuss National Ginger Day(a day I celebrate) and superstitions in sports. Anything from Wade Boggs chicken obsession to Moises Alou and his appreciation for his own urine. We move on to discuss the Jackie Robinson statement in the MLB, continued NIL drama in the SEC, Kaepernick gets a try out before talking at length on the continued saga that is Deshaun Watson. Somewhat of a heavy episode this week, but we hope you enjoy.

We move on to the PGA Championship, Drew Brees, and Deshaun Watson. The last half of the show we discuss NIL (name, image, likeness) and its' impact on college athletics. We hope you enjoy!!
With part 2, we get in to the meat and potatoes (literally) of our conversation. Flender and I finish up our ideal meals before moving on to discuss Ozark. We then move to sports to speak on PGA tour VS. Saudi events, Flender's view on the NFL draft and finally discussing the issues between players/fans in sports, concentrating on the NBA. We hope you enjoy!
No Flender tonight, but Schuster stepped in and we discussed his beloved Reds and how they may end up as one of the one worst teams in history. Spoke a bit on Trevor Bauer and his monster douchery before moving on to the NFL Draft. Schuster reviews his Packers and how he feels about their upcoming season and I talk on how I feel the Bengals did. Schuster also tries to convince me to watch any of the Star Wars movies, but we shall see how that goes. Give it a listen, share with your friends, let us know how you feel.
Here is Episode 10 Part 2. Stupid internet messed me up but Flender kept it flowing as we transition to discussing SOFT NBA players, Ben Simmons, and light TV talk before moving to our Mock NFL Draft. Flender and I do a complete first round mock draft. The draft starts Thursday, April 28, 2022, and I'm willing to bet Flender and I get very few correct, but we gave it our best shot. We hope you enjoy!
We did Episode 10 in two parts. My internet was cruddy for this one but Flender and I got the opportunity to speak with Joe Hall, who is walking across the country to help raise awareness for mental health for all, with a concentration on mental health in children. Mr. Hall speaks on his mental health journey and the stigma attached to being a man with mental health issues. He goes on to speak about his good friend, who lost their child to suicide at age 16. Joe will be starting his journey in Delaware in May with a goal of ending in San Francisco on his 40th Birthday in November. Please visit www.hallacrossthecountry.com to see more on Joe's story and donate to his cause. His goal is to raise money for the Charity "Run a Mile for Jaxon" and the Dayton Childrens Hospital Behavioral Health Unit. I encourage all who are able to reach out to Joe, donate, and be a part of his journey.
This week, Berry joins Flender from a different state, but the same levels of midwest fancy are present. We discuss more on Baker Mayfield, the new saga that is Deebo Samuel and his trade demand, and the Denzel Ward contract. Flender speaks on the Jay Wright retirement and the changing landscape of college basketball and college athletics as a whole. I close the books on the Columbus Blue Jackets season and my hopes for the future then we move in to our Ozark last 7 episode preview. We close the show with some discussion on basketball movies and their impact on us. We hope you enjoy!
This was an interesting episode. Let me say, Flender and I spent this one venting on a few things. We get started talking about Tiger and the Masters before moving on to the tragedy of Dwayne Haskins. We then spend a ton of time explaining why we now hate Lebron and what he's done to the NBA. We hope you enjoy!
This week, Flender and I start with celebrating the 58th anniversary of the the premiere of Jeopardy. We speak on the tragic passing of Taylor Hawkins and what Foo Fighters mean to the music world. Flender gets heated when discussing the debacle that is Deshaun Watson before moving on to the NCAA tourney. That and so much more in this 90ish minute episode. We hope you enjoy!
The sports world gave Flender and I plenty to talk about this week. We discuss the NFL quarterback carousel and what's left out there. We talk the ins and outs of the Deshaun trade and what it means for Cleveland. Flender and I remain excited about what our Bengals are doing and their future. Then we discuss the Mens college bball tourney and the Sweet 16 matchup. We close the show with a little WWE and Wrestlemania predictions. As always, we appreciate all who give us a listen and please share with all your friends!
We start the show with the depression that is being a Cincinnati Reds fan, talk on free agency in both MLB and the NFL. We discuss the Deshaun Watson saga, Baker's implosion in Cleveland, and how the Bengals are quietly putting together a solid offseason. Then, we deep dive in to the Mens NCAA tourney. We make our picks, Flender proves he is much more knowledgeable than I on the sport, and we discuss possible sleepers. I gotta admit, this is my favorite episode to date. I hope you all enjoy!
You all in luck!!! Our very first guest (something no one can ever take from him) was on the episode. Schuster joined Flender and I to discuss Mario Bros, our nintendo memories, lots of baseball and football. Schuster is our resident diehard Reds(MLB) and Packers (NFL) fan so we discuss the new labor agreement in baseball, thoughts on the Reds then move to the madness that is the NFL, with an emphasis on Schuster's beloved Packers and the interesting situation that is Aaron Rodgers. Good news, this time Flender is louder and clearer. Bad news, Schuster and I sound a bit far away. We will keep working at it and improving as the weeks go on. Thank you for giving it a listen!
Have I mentioned Flender and I are new to this and don't know how to do things? In this episode, we deal with internet issues that may cause some problems in sections. I've tried to get rid of what I could, but I warn you in advance. Outside of that, Flender and I discuss our favorite sandwich shops, his super fandom of Duke basketball and Coach K's legacy then start our discussion on our view of the television landscape. We hope you enjoy!
Here is Part 2 of episode 2. This goes further in to our television discussion, including our all time favorites and memories attached to each. We hope you enjoy!
We finally made the plunge! Episode 1 is in the books. In this one, Flender and I discuss how and why we decided to do this, our favorite Cincy chili, our Bengals fandoms during the good and bad, and our outlook on their future.
