We are back this week and are continuing our discussion of Yevgeny Zamyatin’s We.
This week we work through OneState’s foundational principle of society: usefulness.
We discuss the problem of treating all people the same from a production standpoint, the moral issue of dictating one purpose to everything, and how poetry fits into it all.
This week we continue our discussion of Zamyatin’s novel “We.” We talk about how OneState uses math as a way to understand and govern the world, how we as humans are meant to balance the rational with the irrational, and we find out that Micah is an anarchist.
This episode begins our series discussing Yevgeny Zamyatin’s classic dystopian novel, “We.” In this first discussion we explore what it means to be human in a hyper efficient society like OneState, and whether or not we are in danger today of losing our humanity by reducing ourselves to tasks and hours.
There has been a great resurgence of interest in dystopian literature. Why exactly? What are the features of dystopian genre and why might it be important to read these books? Scott and Jon tackle the topic and introduce the book that the Seven Pipes group will focus in on the next few weeks.

Should Christians only read theology and biblical studies, or can a Christian grow just as much by reading a good story from a non-Christian writer?
