On the show today Seth talks about 2 of the best general use backpacks on the market. Both are made by 5.11 but one is a day-use pack and the other is for longer outings. 5.11 names their Rush series packs after the number of hours they are designed to provide support. The Rush 12 is a day pack, Rush 24 is overnight and the Rush 72 is for 3 days or so.
The 5.11 Rush 12 is a 24L pack and is designed as a day pack. The Rush 24 pack sits in the middle of the ones talked about on the podcast and it is a 37L pack and is great for overnight trips.
Today Seth talks about 2 of the best flashlights on the market.
Olight makes some of the best flashlights you can buy. We both own Olight brand lights and endorse them as one of the best lights you can buy. but if you are looking for something a little more budget friendly, the Sofirn SC31 Pro is also an excellent choice.
Be sure to check out https://thegearoutfitters.com to learn more about each of these lights and find tons more gear.

In this episode Seth talks about stoves.
Whether you are just going out for the weekend or doing a thru hike, your going to want to eat. There are numerous options to cook with in the backcountry. You can go Viking and build a fire to cook the deer you harvest with your bare hands or you can be more subtle or you can use a 46gram Brasslite alcohol stove. I prefer to be in the middle with an Isobutane stove like the MSR Reactor. On a solo trip this might be more than one person needs but if there are 3 or more people and the weight is distributed, this can be the most viable option. But that is my personal preference as there are many options available that I have not tried. I know many UL backpackers light the alcohol and esbit stoves from the weight savings. We are not trying to say one is better than the other because each is useful in its intended environment.

Washington is a great place to visit and live which is why many outdoor companies are based there. Manufacturers of tents, mountain bikes, road bikes, fishing gear, and outdoor clothing all call Washington home. The fly fishing is amazing, the hiking and backpacking is some of the best in the country, Olympic National Park is awesome and there is always Mt. Rainer to climb if you have spare time.
