Behind the Sash is a fortnightly podcast that celebrates and shares the voices of Showgirls around New South Wales. Not every Showgirl will reach the state final, but every Showgirl is a local hero with a story to tell.

Welcome back to Behind the Sash! On todays episode we have the privilege of talking to Elinor Bowman. Elinor was the 2023 Singleton Young Woman, and a Zone 5 Finalist for The Land Sydney Royal AgShows NSW Young Woman Competition.

Elinor hails from Singleton in the Hunter Valley. Growing up, she knew that she was passionate about social justice and giving back to her community. Elinor went on to complete a double degree in law and international studies, and is a corporate lawyer at Gilbert + Tobin.

Outside of work, you will find Elinor on the rugby field for Eastern Suburbs Rugby Union Football Club, at a CWA meeting or volunteering in the tea rooms for Singleton Show. She has also travelled extensively, and in this episode we dive into what it takes to be a young solo traveller.

Lyndsey Douglas is undoubtedly Young Woman royalty.

From emceeing Zone Finals, to interviewing State Finalists of The Land Sydney Royal AgShows NSW Young Woman Competition, Lyndsey has done it all. She is also director of Writers Who, and acts as a professional MC for a range of organisations and events, especially in agriculture. She is highly regarded and respected in the industry.

What some may not realise though, is that Lyndsey herself was a showgirl for Condobolin and ended up as a state finalist. From her time at Sydney Royal, she has taken every opportunity presented and professionally has never looked back.

On this episode of Behind the Sash, Lyndsey sits on the other side of the table and opens up about some of her story. Along with previous NSW Young Woman Florance McGufficke, Lyndsey has also founded an event for showgirl and young woman alumni called the 'Pearl Picnic'. This week Behind the Sash is coming to you from Dubbo at the 2024 Celebrating AgShows NSW Conference and Gala Dinner.

Sammy catches up with President Award recipients Nicky Seeto and Jody Nelson-Gleeson, as well as Sean Haynes on behalf of Eugowra Show who received the Resilience Award.

Paris got to sit down with youth program alumni Florance McGufficke (2023 The Land Sydney Royal AgShows NSW Young Woman), Katie Williams (2024 Young Woman State Finalist) and Shanelle Pescud (2024 RAS Rural Achiever State Finalist) to see what they have been up to.

Both the conference and gala dinner had fantastic feedback, it is such a valuable event for those involved in AgShows. Next year it will be held in Armidale and is definitely something to put in the diary!

On this episode of Behind the Sash we sit down with the 2024 The Land Sydney AgShows Young Woman, Domonique Wyse. Dom grew up in Taree where she fell in love with cattle through showing with local schools and families as she studied agriculture through distance education.

She is now an Ag Teacher in Tamworth, but wears many hats outside of work through her roles with ASC Next Gen and her sporting commitments. Dom is grounded, determined and approachable, and is excited to get to as many Shows as she can across the year.

She was the 2020 Milton Showgirl and was lucky enough to be a Finalist for the 2022 The Land Sydney Royal Ag Shows NSW Young Woman Program. Her favourite thing about the Young Woman program is watching the growth and development of a young woman and connecting with like minded women all across NSW.
