Do you find yourself in a meeting with people asking you to repeat what you just said or constantly asking you to clarify your point?
Whether it is a meeting that you are presenting in, or organizational change communication did occur, however what we are seeing is a disconnect in how the message landed to the receiving party. To be an effective communicator begins with what you will communicate, ends with who you are communicating to and in the middle is understanding which audience type needs to understand your message.

Here’s what I shared with Inc. Magazine about leadership…
It all boils down to holding onto your authenticity amidst the chaos.
As a leader, there are moments that define you.
One of those moments is when you ask yourself the extremely uncomfortable question.
What needs to change, within me to see the change in who and what I lead?
Anything that is within a leaders responsibility to shepherd (people, process, profits) will not change until the internal change happens within the leader.

I feel fear, that is all that I could write…
My pen felt like it weighed 100 pounds
My chest tightened
And, next, I just sat there. I watched the steam from my espresso rise out of my favorite NCIS coffee cup like a phoenix as I felt the wind blow through the trees in my backyard.
What led me there was a thought that morning that maybe I needed to sit outside for a while to catch my breath and sit with my thoughts. Why was this happening? As I tried to do this I wrestled with what I’ve experienced many times before and have now aptly referred to as a divine download that kept coming up to me.
I leaned into the thought and the tightness in my chest released a bit more. Now we are onto something I thought. In today's episode I'll share how leaning into the fear and asking a different question will get you the answers you seek.

CEOs must plan & act when the time is right.
"The decision facing every founder is when and if they should leave their position. Some feel fully capable of leading an organization until retirement while others may want to pursue new passions that would pull their attention elsewhere. The best way for CEOs to plan for the next chapter of their role as a leader is to keep two facts in mind." To learn more visit www.ladawntownsend.com
In today's episode we talk with Steve Huizinga President of Allied Mechanical Services on why by going against the industry social norm practices, the company has benefited from the diversity and inclusivity of its employees.
As president of the Allied Mechanical Services, Inc. [AMS], as well as their family of companies, Steve’s primary focus is growth strategies, vision, employee retention, and DEI efforts. Preceded by his father and grandfather, he is the third generation of Huizinga’s to lead AMS.
Over the past 29 years Steve has served in multiple roles at AMS. After working in the field as a tradesperson for 18 years, he advanced to the role of Estimator, followed by Director of Operations, and onto his current role now as President. His struggles with addiction put him in the legal system and his experience shaped AMS’ mission to change people’s lives through employment with empathy. He lives by these principles: admit struggles and weakness, ask for help, true strength comes from humbling ourselves and admitting our failures. Steve’s journey has influenced AMS’ nonconventional hiring approach. By going against the industry social norm practices, the company has benefited from the diversity and inclusivity of its employees. Steve is a college dropout (and proud of it). He carries a Plumbing license, Boiler license, and Mechanical license.

The other day in our daily team meeting as we gathered around our virtual table, I tossed a curve ball in the game. I shared with the team what was our new sales goal for the next 18 months and it is 10X more than what we had planned to do, and the number was something we have never even come close to reaching.
So, on the faithful day last week when I shared our new targets their response was one, I anticipated. One team member revealed the core nature of our company in one statement. “If not now then when will we do this? And, if not us? Then who?”
Hearing this response made all the work put into building our company culture while also growing a business over the past seven years made it completely worth the journey. This response was confirmation that our mission as a company is not only understood but it is embraced.

In life, there are moments to pause
These moments happen unexpectedly by design and, while we are busy running a company, we can miss the moment. For the past ten years, I have been guided in my life by that pause.
The very moment when you are doing your daily routine that in an instance you feel yourself stopping. But you don't know why. You reach for your laptop and stop with your hand mid-way in the air. You turn to your favorite news channel in the morning and find yourself with your finger hovering over the power button but not pressing it and, next your arm lowers to the ground. You sit on the edge of your bed, puzzled by what just happened while you listen to the sound of silence in a room that's normally buzzing with the morning news report.
The pause takes over you as if you are standing in a field and the only thing moving is the air around you. Life-changing moments happen in the pause And, when life changes, your company will too It's time to lean into the pause
