In this episode of The Immigrant Bag, I take a look at the gap in immigrants' retirement savings that you do not normally hear people talk about. In many cases, immigrants who relocate in their 30s or 40s, have many years of retirement savings to catch up on. To put in it perspective, a 43 year old who has been working in Canada since the college has about a 20 year head start on a 43 year old immigrant who has only been working here for a couple of years.
Retirement savings is a huge topic that cannot be discussed exhaustively in one episode. I try to scratch the surface just enough to ginger a positive reflection on the issue while also discussing potential mitigation strategies.
