This week I will be proctoring the PSAT this Thursday the 29th of October, so Period 1 & 7 will be asynchronous that day. Also this Friday October 30th is the end of the quarter. Make sure that you have turned in everything you need to.

Film Studies - This week in Film Studies we will be talking about the American New Wave movement. This is the rise of the film director as the key person behind a movie now that the studio system has fallen. We will also start talking about the Film Genre project that you will be doing for December and finishing Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.

English Honors - This week we will be talking about Rubrics. Now that you have finished your first writing assignment, it’s time for us to determine how those will be graded. We are going to work together to determine the rubric that we will be using for the rest of this classes writing assignments. You will also be reading Civil peace by Chinua Achebe.

This week in English we are continuing our unit on Materialism. We will be reading an article about La Rinconada, Peru and the Gold mine there. In Film Studies this week we begin Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid, a romantic take on the lives of outlaws of the same name. We will also be talking about the 1960s in Cinema.

This week's reading is All Hallows by Louise Glück. Louise Glück has been awarded the 2020 Nobel Prize in Literature "for her unmistakable poetic voice that with austere beauty makes individual existence universal."

This week in Film Studies we leave the land of Oz and travel to the seedy land of California to talk about the birth of the golden age of cinema,  and of course to talk about Film Noir. You will also be getting your first two Practical Film Assignments.

This week in English Honors we will be looking at some of the mechanics that are important for you as writers to learn and understand. We will be turning a SMM in paragraphs and we will be talking about citations! Yay. Everyone loves Citations!

In Film Studies this week we will continue down the yellow brick road as we talk about the advent of sound and color in film and touch on experimentalism. In English honors we will be covering conflict, resolution, and the difference between empathy and sympathy. We will also be answering the question we have asked since day 1 of class. Why do stories matter?

This weeks reading is Trees by Joyce Kilmer. He was an American Poet and Journalist lost to us during the Great War. Take some time to this week to get out and walk among your trees, whatever those may be for you.

In Film Studies this week we begin The Wizard of Oz and In English we start talking about four of our core Literary Elements.

This week we lost Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Her Friend and colleague Justice Breyer wrote the poem about her which was the reading for this week. If you want to get a head start, this week's assignment will be using the short story The Necklace by Guy de Maupassant. It is a great read and worth your time. Few have conveyed the artistry of the short story the way Guy de Maupassant did.
